IPod 5th Gen. Frequently turns off. Help?

My iPod 5th generation turns off when using frequently. It restarts with a click on the wheel. Frustrating to always be holding iPod having my finger ready to click. How can I resolve?

Well as a last resort option, restore the iPod to factory settings in iTunes.  This process wipes all data from the iPod, resets all settings back to their defaults, and restores a fresh copy of the iPod's software onto the device. By doing this we can rule out the possibility of corrupted software or data on the Nano.
Restoring iPod to factory settings
Otherwise, it looks like a hardware problem, meaning you'll need to have the iPod serviced or replaced.

  • My ipod 5th gen keeps turning off whenever I unlock it!

A few days ago I was on my ipod 5th gen and it randomly restarted itself, I didn't think much of it but as soon as I unlocked my ipod it froze for a second or two and restarted itself again, it happens every time I unlock it, if i stay on the home screen its fine and I can access my music but it wont connect to any wifi and always restarts itself every time i type in the passcode. I've tried going into itunes to back it up and restore it but it needs me to allow access to my ipod by unlocking it (which i cant do) and saying i trust my computer. Nothing ive tried has done anything and i cant back it up cuz i cant unlock my ipod without it restarting itself.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from an existing backup. You may have an iCloud backup. See:

    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • IPod 5th Gen keeps turning on and off!! ***

My iPod 5th Gen just keeps turning on and off, I dunno why but it just does!
I just updated the iPod about 10 minutes ago, and it completed then right after it comes up with the Silver Apple logo, then lights up, then shuts down, makes the hard drive clicky sound too. And just does that over and over and over again. I hate it.
I've tried to put it into Disk mode, and Menu+Select and Menu+Play. Nothing works!
    What do I do??

im having the same problems but once i get my ipod into disk mode i cant seem to restore it..
You restore it when plugged into your computer and it shows up in iTunes. The restore function is in iTunes. Sometimes you have to force the iPod into disk mode in order to get it to mount and show up in iTunes.

  • Ipod 4th gen keeps turning off

My iPod 4th gen has a full battery, but it keeps turning off.  The power button does not turn it back on, I have to put it on the charger.  When I do that it shows a dead (red) battery.  Can someone tell me why???

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

    Hey Gilmour2013,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
I understand that your iPod nano is not recognized in iTunes. To troubleshoot this, choose an applicable article below that best describes your issue and is based on your operating system.
    Windows
iPod appears in Windows but not in iTunes
iPod not recognized in 'My Computer' and in iTunes for Windows
iTunes reports that "iTunes cannot recognize this iPod at this time"
    Mac OS X
iPod not recognized in iTunes and Mac Desktop
MacBook and MacBook Air: iPod won't mount when connected via USB hub
What to do if your computer won't recognize a USB or FireWire device
    Thanks,

  • Ipod 5th Gen. Corrupted. Help please.

Hi there everybody, im sorry if this has already been posted before, but this is my first post here.
I have a 5th generation ipod 30gb, it is saying corrupted once plugged in via itunes. When I do manage to start it, its showing no music at all I had around 1,500 songs on this ipod and did not back them up. I have tried rebooting, nothing seems to work. I hate to hear the only option I have left is to restore, so hopefully someone will be able to help me.
I was going to click the restore button after hours of research and getting nowhere, but I thought id try here as a last resort.
My photos are still on there, so hopefully I wont lose those as well as all of my music!
Problem started with low battery power I think, as a small battery sign popped up, which id never seen before. Eventually rebooting got the ipod to turn on, but my music has gone from the ipod. Is there a way I can access them in any ipod files or are they gone forever. I would like to know if I can copy my music onto my computer somehow. I cant access the ipod menu on itunes, just getting one screen saying restore. I dont think I had disc use enabled either, as I tired some of those steps earlier and got no where. Im using a mac so not as familiar as I was with windows.
Any help would be apriciated as the music on there was very important to me!

"although it's letting me put the songs back on it'll only let my sync my entire library, rather than picking and choosing which songs i want on (which is what i normally do). Also when my ipod is connected to th computer it won't let me play the songs off my ipod thru itunes like it normally does, in fact it won't even let me click on them."
Your ipod is set for automatic sync. With your ipod plugged in and itunes open, click on your ipod in the panel on the left. That should take you to the Summary screen (if not, click the Summary tab at the top). Check the box that says "Manually manage music and videos", and you should be able to edit and play songs directly from your ipod.

  • I shattered my iPod 5th gen screen... help?

So I was walking outside and the darn thing fell out of my pocket. It hit the gravel road and shattered. My warranty ran out, and I don't know anyone who replaces screens. The digitizer is fine. It's just the glass. What should I do besides just getting a new iPod? I don't have the $300 to do that.

User damage wouldn't be covered under the warranty, so your warranty status is not an issue. Apple at this time does not repair iPods, but will replace the entire iPod for a flat fee; see the Repair Pricing section here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/faq/
There are independent iPod repair services that may be able to replace the screen for less. Do a web search for "ipod repair". It is also possible to purchase parts and find instructions on doing a repair yourself, though it's not particularly easy. Note, though, that if you elect to have the iPod serviced by an unauthorized shop or perform a repair yourself, all further support from Apple will be void.
    Regards.

That is so dumb...Apple is the best and most techinological company IN THE WORLD and they don't have the time to invent something like that? HUH? All they are worried about is making the "Worlds best Phone" and they can't take the time out to help their users or anybody that has their products. All they have is "Find mt Iphone" Well they should step up and do something else to help people like me out. Find a way to turn it on and you can find it or find a way to turn it on remotely.

  • I had put a greek keybooard up on my Ipod 5th gen, then changed my password to a greek word, yesterday I took the greek keyboard off and didn't change my password, so I now can't get into my Ipod. If any one could help me that would be grea

I have an Ipod 5th gen, I added a keyboard which was greek, I had changed my password to a greek short sentence. But the decided to take the greek keyboard off as I didn't use it often, so there was no point in having it. But I forgot to change my password, so I can't enter my Ipod. I've tried to enter the password in English and its not working! I don't really want to restart it all because I will loose everything! If anyone could help that would be great thank you.

Connect the iOS device to your computer and try to make a backup. Yo shld be able to make a backup if you previously syncing to this computer.
    iOS: How to back up
Then restore via iTunes. The iOS device will be erased. Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode if necessary to allow the restore.
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.

  • My ipod 5th gen has been acting up. Its been shutting off at random times and appears to be glitching out. The screen would go different colors and when it would turn back on my recent texts and stuff would be deleted.

My iPod 5th gen has been doing this for awhile, though it progressively got better over time, it still happens occasionally like when I'm out running. My iPod is never able to connect strongly to any WiFi network. All the WiFi networks keep disappearing and then coming back, and this is infuriating because it wont let me sign in to iTunes or IMessage at all or update my iPod easily. My date and time keeps getting off track and every time i set it back to normal it just gets messed up again. Now it wont let me connect to iTunes and receive push notifications. I tried logging out o my Apple ID on my phone but now it wont let me sign back in. WHAT IS GOING ON HELP PLEASE!?!?!
