IPod 5th Gen (Late 2006) won't turn on

My iPod 5th Gen (Late 2006) will not turn on. When I plug it into the wall charger it WILL turn on however nothing appears on the screen. The screen will constantly stay lit and will eventually turn a light shade of pink. It will NOT turn on and register with iTunes when I plug into a computer though. Could this be a battery issue? or something else?

Fis try drying it;

When dry try:
Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

What do you mean by service warranty? the Apple warraty does not cover liquid damage.
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $99 for the 16 GB one and $149 for the others. They do not fix yours.

  • Is it possible to install a 160 GB Toshiba slim-fit HDD from an iPod Classic 2009 model into a iPod 5th Gen Late-2006 model that originally had a 30 GB Toshiba drive?

Is it possible to install a 160 GB Toshiba slim-fit HDD from an iPod Classic 2009 model into a iPod 5th Gen Late-2006 model that originally had a 30 GB Toshiba drive?
I have had my 30 GB iPod video for about 7 years, it was a gift and has served me well. Unfortunately it was in my pocket when I brushed up against a very powerful magnet which latched onto the unit and scrambled the hardware. Sad iPod icon.
I was told I probably need to replace the HD in order to get it back to working order. What I am wondering is, would I be able to replace it with a larger capacity drive so long as I got a unit that was slim enough to fit into the casing?

Have you tried resetting the PRAM? http://gigaom.com/2011/07/26/when-to-reset-your-macs-pram-and-smc/
Which Windows version are you trying to install? If I remember right, you can't use windows 8 on these older machines.
Other than that it's hard to say what could have gone wrong. I can only suggest going through the steps again carefully and making sure everything worked the way it should.

  • Swapping cases on an iPod 5th Gen late 2006

I just bought a used 5th Gen late 2006 iPod. I have a 5th Gen U2 Special Ed. iPod I found in the trash. It's missing the display and battery. Can I swap the cases from one to the other?

    Hello sisjoel,
Are both iPods the 30 GB models? If they are, then yes, you can swap out the cases. However this task can be a bit more difficult than it looks and you risk bricking the used iPod you recently purchased.
I think the best guides on how to swap out the front and back covers can be found on ifixit.com. Here are the two guides that should help you accomplish this task.

  • IPod 5th Gen (Late 2006) 30Gb "USER GUIDE"?

On the Apple website the User Guides they have listed are: IPod w/Color Display-6/10/2005; IPod Click Wheel-9/2004; and IPod Original-10/21/2002.
The most recent one being the one for color, shows an image of a black IPod with a RED wheel, which mine is not. I do not even know if mine has a color display. I do not know how to work it at all! Which is why I need the correct "User Guide".
Which one should I choose?  Thank you!

  • IPOD 5th Gen Late 2006 - Unable to load Video

    1. I have music videos from my previous Mini but new 30GB video says itunes does not recognize, tried converting, get video but no audio. 2. I cannot see song list of what is on IPOD when plugged into computer only get summary screen. Help

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
    1) This is because the videos are muxed. See this for more info...
iPod plays video but not audio of some exported files (Muxed Files)
You would need to use a converter that supports muxed videos, such as...
    MPEG Streamclip
    2) Click the little triangle/arrow next to the iPod in iTunes. A list of categories will appear. Click Music, for example, to see the list of songs on the iPod.

  • Synching question (5th Gen late 2006)

Friend gave me an iPod 5th Gen late 2006 (so called 5.5) - 30GB.
Seems to work OK except when I synch.
Sych operation only copies 140 songs of a couple thousand (17GB).
    Any ideas why?
    Mac 10.8.4
    iTunes 11.0.4
    iPod 1.3
All music is "watched" - stored in iCloud.
    Thanks for ideas.

  • IPOD 5TH GENERATION (LATE 2006) Boot Loop

I have this iPod and here is what it's doing.  Please note:  The HDD has been replaced with an OEM and it does spin up, I have done a lean test on it, and the battery was completely dead, but does hold a charge.  A new one is on the way.  Here are the steps I take:
    1. I press the center button on the click wheel
    2. The Apple logo appears
    3. I release the center button
    4. After 5 seconds, I get a iPod sad face and the triangle with an exclamation point inside of it.
    5. It then turns off.
Here is what I have done to troubleshoot:
    1. I have done multiple resets by turning on the hold selector switch and turning it off, then holding down the Center and Menu buttons.  Same Result.
    2. I leave the cable unconnected and I have put the iPod in disk mode by, with the iPod off, pressing and holding down the Play/Pause and Center buttons, then I wait for the apple logo to appear, and then I release the buttons after about 15 seconds.  Once in disk mode when it says OK to disconnect,  I will then reconnect to a PC or Mac.  The screen on the iPod will start to say do not disconnect with a blinking no smoking sign in the middle.  On the PC, the iPod driver installation started once, failed when the iPod went back to the Apple logo screen from disk mode, thus severing its connection with the PC, then proceeds to boot loop.  It will only boot loop if plugging into a charger or computer.  When its plugged into a Mac, it does the same thing on the iPod, but nothing pops on the Mac at all.  When its still plugged in and getting charge after the sad iPod face goes away, it says Please Wait Very Low Battery, even though the battery has a full charge.
    3. I have done the same procedure with the cable connected to the PC or Mac, which replaces the first step in number 2.  So, it would say I have a connected cable and I have put the iPod in disk mode by.  So on and so on.
    4.  I have disconnected everything in the iPod and reconnected as well.
If any one can help, please.
    Late,
    MT

Hard Reset the  iPod  as below- this does not delete or erase any song or data.
Toggle the Hold switch, make sure you dont see the red mark when you do the  next step
Reset the iPod -> Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 secs till the Apple Logo comes ON
    Then release the buttons
    Select your preferred language.
Charge your iPod again, using a high power USB 2.0 port on the Mac body, don't use the keyboard USB port or any USB hub.

When you charge, what do you see on the iPod screen? should be one of these icon
If you dont see these icon, then try another USB cable or a wall charger.
If you see any of these icon and still cant play music standalone, then your battery need to be replaced.
If your iPod is under warranty, bring it in to Apple Store, and they will replace it.
If it is out of warranty, there is a replacement fee.
Apple offers a battery replacement for  $59 (iPod nano and classic),  plus $6.95 shipping, subject to local tax.

  • New ipod 5th gen 30 gb won't synch library

My desktop(xp) says my ipod needs to be retored. However, I get the 1418 error message. I removed everything from the usb, printer, etc.
I called apple. No help. They say it needs to be restored and I should find a way to do this. Try a laptop.
I go to my laptop and transfer my itunes library from an ipod that was stolen. The message says my ipod needs to be updated (running itunes 7.0.2). It supposedly updates. It will not synch my library. It did synch 19 songs from a cd.
    Any suggestions? Thank you.

A way to turn it off is to wait for it to run out of power, that way it will have to turn off eventually. Then restart it, and restore again.

My iPod 5th gen was working fine last night and after charging it won't turn on with power button today. I'm not able to reboot using home button and power button simultaneously because my home button stopped working couple weeks back and I was using touch screen for home function. • IPod 5th gen 30gig won't charge and isn't recognized by iTunes

I recently replaced the battery in my iPod 5th gen because I thought that was the problem.  This fixed things temporaly and my iPod turned on for this first time in a long time.  However, now it won't charge or hook up to the computer.  I think this may have been the problem all along.
The charging port seems to be in good condition and pretty clean.  I have tried resetting it and resetting it while connected to itunes.  I also disconnected and reconnected the new battery.  I left it plugged in for sometime but it hasn't charged.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.  I really have no idea what the problem is at this point.
    Thanks

I suspect that you have a completely dead battery.
i got this ipod about a year ago
If you mean 11 months, a battery replacement is under warranty but $30 shipping and handling. If you mean 13 months, a battery replacement is $59 + $7 shipping.

That is so dumb...Apple is the best and most techinological company IN THE WORLD and they don't have the time to invent something like that? HUH? All they are worried about is making the "Worlds best Phone" and they can't take the time out to help their users or anybody that has their products. All they have is "Find mt Iphone" Well they should step up and do something else to help people like me out. Find a way to turn it on and you can find it or find a way to turn it on remotely.
