IPod 5th gen stopped charging in the middle of a charge.

I was charging my iPod touch last night and in the middle of the charge, it stopped and gave me the "This cable or accessory is not certified and may not work reliably with this iPod."  It'll do this even when I plug the charger into the port but not to any power source.  It's now almost dead and I really need my iPod to charge. I've already tried resetting and clearing the debris out of the port.  I'm not sure what else to do.

- Try another cable. The cable for 5G iPod (lightning connector) seems to be more prone to failure than the older cable.

- Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.

Leave it in the rice for at least a day and change the rice every other day or so. The rice and iPod should be in a sealed container.

  • Ipod 5th Gen is stuck on the apple logo with the loading bar not moving

So I recently decided to restore my iPod 5th gen to factory settings, because I plan on selling it to a friend. When I chose the option to erase all data and reset settings, the iPod turned off, and then came to the black background with the apple logo in the middle. After watching it turn on and off, and not do anything for at least an hour, I searched for answers on the forum. I found that I should reset my iPod by holding the center button and the top right button at the same time for at least ten seconds, or until the device shuts off and then the apple logo is visible again. After I did this, once again, the black background with the apple logo popped up, this time with a loading bar beneath it. After an hour or two of checking on the progress bar, I noticed that it had not made any progress whatsoever. It had not moved an inch since I first started it. What do I do?

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer

  • Ipod nano 7th gen stops playing in the middle of song

Ipod nano 7th gen stops playing song randomly while listening. What gives?

i think i FINALLY solved the problem - by simply switching the wire that connects my ipod to my computer (i was using a firewire, and switched to a usb).
Did you by any chance have the iPod connected through a hub , or through another device, G?
Its not uncommon to have issues like this occur if , for example, you have a firewire device equipped with a "Prolific" 3507 firewire bridge . THese are found in many cheap external FW enclosures used for external burners and HD's , for example. The only real solution is to disconnect all such devices to avoid interruptions on the FW bus. (or, at least with the iPod, you can simply use USB2 instead).

  • IPod 5th Gen will not recognize the fact that it actually has music on it

This question has been asked before, but not answered. With that in mind, I will ask you this: Though my iPod does definitely have 18 gigs of music on it, as I can see them when I choose to view it as a portable media device, or whatever, and search manually through windows explorer, it will not recognize the music in either iTunes or on my iPod. I have not restored my iPod because that would be a pain. I have had it for no more than two weeks and this occurrence has made me very upset. It happened when I was working on a playlist. There was a beep sound as if it had ejected and then the black and white screen with the apple came on as if it had been reset. Subsequently, all music disappeared from the iTunes sub menu of my iPod. Furthermore, even though in the "about" on my iPod it says there is music there, I can not see it. When that happened there was a windows message saying that there was a corrupted file and that I should use the "chkdisc" feature. I did that, and nothing was fixed. Please help. Costumer DISSATISFACTION!!!

If you want to try to "repair" your iPod to get the music to show back up...
    http://www.yamipod.com/main/modules/docs/help/corruptedipod.php
But again, it would be better to restore. Also, 3rd party software does not always work flawlessly.
To fix the error that came up, along with getting your music to show back up properly (without the risks of 3rd party software), you need to restore your iPod. If all of your music is on your computer/in iTunes, you won't loose any of it.
    See this for more info...
iPod: What to do if Windows displays an "itunes.exe - Corrupt File" message
    And if the problem persists...
Da Gopha: What to do if Windows displays an "iTunes.exe - Corrupt File" message
If the iPod was just not showing you the songs even though they are there, the first option would be better. However, since you are getting the chkdsk error, you should/need to restore your iPod.

  • My iPod 5th gen won't turn on!

My iPod 5th gen was working fine last night and after charging it won't turn on with power button today. I'm not able to reboot using home button and power button simultaneously because my home button stopped working couple weeks back and I was using touch screen for home function. Any suggestions on how I can reboot without the home button working? Thanks!

  • After I installed iOS 7.1, my iPhone 4s and iPod (5th Gen.) will no longer sync with my 2014 Toyota Tundra Truck.

After I installed iOS 7.1, my iPhone 4s and iPod (5th Gen) stopped syncing with my 2014 Toyota Tundra Truck.  Has anybody experienced this problem?

Turn your phone off and connect your cable to the computer, but not the device just yet. Start up iTunes. Now, hold down the home button on your phone and plug it in to the cable - don't let go of the button until iTunes tells you it's detected a phone in recovery mode. Now you can restore to factory settings.

  • IPod 5th Gen says it is synchronizing, but it doesn`t. What can I do?

I have been gifted a used iPod 5th Gen, and at first everything worked fine, it charges, when connected to my computer, the first sync was also fine. Now I have added some new songs to my iTunes  and want to put them also on the iPod.
    Here comes the problem:
when I connect it to the computer, it starts charging, it also says, it is synchronizing, but only for a few seconds.. The new songs are not on the iPod.
Tried to set it back, but the problem is still there..
    What can I do?

    Hi 747er,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you have an iPod nano that you would like to add more music to from your computer, but the syncing finishes without moving the music to your iPod. In this situation, I would recommend reading over the attached article that explains how to sync your content, to ensure that your sync settings are correct.

  • IPod 5th gen headphone jack not working

I Have the iPod 5th gen and only today the headphone jack has stopped working. When I plug the headphones in it is as if the iPod just doesn't see them and carries on playing music from the iPods speakers and not the headphones. I have no clue what it is doing or any idea on how to fix it.

Hey Katie, as Philly Phan has stated there is a tiny switch inside the headphone port. If it gets stuck open your iPod will think the headphones are plugged in. The plugging / unplugging generally will free the switch. Also, try looking inside the port, your looking for foreign debris, like lint, if you see something try blowing it out or carefully remove it with a wooden round toothpick. Good luck, Cheers.

  • I tried updating my iPod 5th gen to iOS 8 but it only shows me a picture of the iTunes logo and a charger at the bottom, I'm not sure what this means or what I need to do. Can someone please help me?

After restoring to factory settings/new iPod you will then have to restore from backup
    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • I've had my iPod 5th gen for a few months now and out of nowhere the microphone has stopped working.

I've had my iPod 5th gen for a few months now and out of nowhere the microphone has stopped working. It won't pick up anything, I can't use it for recording, face time, siri or anything else. Every time I try and record and play it back its just all fuzzy, is there anyway of fixing it without having to send it off for repair?

    - Make sure the mic hole is clear and unobstructed. It is the little hole on the back by the camera lens(if has back camera). For the 16 GB one without the back camera the mic hole is on the tope edge near the center.
    - Open the Voice Memos app and see if you see movement on the VU meter needle with changes in noise level trying to be recorded.
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

You can also send it to Apple.
