I tried pressing the home button, power button, and also DFU mode, but it doesn't work. I also had strange lines at the begining and then it turns black, Please Help!

The day before it had looked weird, as in I was downloading an app and it powered down, the when I tryed to turn it back on it got red and green lines on it. My ipod 5th generation won't turn on and my middle button doesn't work! What will I do? It all starmed when I updated iOS 8. It would be fine but would shut down at random, now it won't turn on at all!!! when I press the lock button to turn it on the Apple sign would come up for about 5/10 minutes!! so what will I do???

Ipod 5th generation started loosing its battery really fast and now it wont even turn on.

My iPod 5th generation is just over a year old and its screen is a bit cracked. a couple of months ago it started to keep its battery less and less and it would go to 100% battery after a couple of minutes and then when unplugged it would die just as quickly. For the past week or so I've had to use it plugged in as it was barely keeping any charge (1 minute) at the most.Last night I was using it and i unplugged it and put it on the shelf i presumed it would be okay through the night as i wasn't using it. But when i woke up it wasn't turning on at all and so i plugged it into the charger. The apple symbol came up for about a minute and then the screen went blank. I thought I'd leave it plugged in to see what would happen but it kept repeating the symbol to blankscreen process. If anyone knows whats wrong with it or how to fix it please tell me. as it took me a long time to save up for it and its a big loss of money for me.

I suspect that the event that caused the screen problem as progressed and is causing the other problems.

Can I assume you are using iTunes 10?
But most probably, your iPod hardisk is the problem and your Windows 7 is taking a long time to read the disk filesystem.
Do a disk diagnostic first as posted by tt2, don't worry about the Mac user, Disk diagnostic refer to iPod and not the OS.

This wont fix your problem, but will help in troubleshooting route, as there are dozens of reasons for the failure.
Post the results here and hopefully it is not the harddisk.
