IPod 5th Generation not responding, seems to be reset to 4th G iPod.

I got a new fifth generation iPod yesterday, and when I went to connect it to my computer, I installed the software, blah blah blah, connected it, and it only put one song from iTunes onto the iPod. So I connected it again, and still nothing. Downloaded the latest software, tried to restore it, and it said something about Firmware not working..?
So I disconnected it, tried to reset it, no such luck, put it into disk mode, still nothing.
So when I disconnected it, it turned on and had the folder with the exclamation point with the support website underneath.
When I bought this, it was a video iPod.
Now all it is doing is when I connect it, saying Do Not Disconnect, not syncing with iTunes, Restoring, Resetting, or responding. It's also all in black and white, like the old iPod, but everything is smaller.
I'm close to just about shooting myself at this point, so any help, at all, would be appriciated.

hi .candykisses! (what a lovely alias.)
So when I disconnected it, it turned on and had the folder with the exclamation point with the support website underneath.
we'd probably better check on these issues first:
iPod not recognized when connected to Windows laptop over USB
iPod shows a folder icon with exclamation point after disconnecting from a Windows PC
iPod does not appear in iTunes or on the desktop, an exclamation point or sad iPod icon appears onscreen
keep us posted.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • IPod 5th Generation not charging properly after IOS 8 update...

    Hello,
I was wondering if anybody has had this problem since the update or even with out the update.
Ever since I updated my IPod to the new IOS 8 I have had trouble charging it. I would plug in the lightning cable and it would show that it is charging with the little symbol but it seems to lose charge while it is plugged in instead of actually charging, even though it says it is. It's also taking a lot longer to charge now that it is doing this and I was just wondering if anyone else might be having this problem or knows how to fix it.
    Thank you,
    Miranda.

    No problems here.
Please tell me that it has NEVER been jailbroke.  If it has not been jailbroke, here are some standard repair procedures:
First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore (or it doesn't help), go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again.  Also, read this.

  • Ipod nano 5th generation not recognized by itunes

I just got a new iPod nano and when I connect it, nothing happens. Itdoes not appear in the device list in iTunes. The nano screen says it is connected but I didn't get to even set it up in itunes. I've tried everything on the apple site - uninstalled itunes and then reinstalled, reset the ipod. I just can't restore because the apple site says I need to do that through iTunes, but I can't b/c it's not showing up in the device list. VERY FRUSTRATING!!

  • IPod touch 5th gen not responding

The screen on my iPod touch 5th gen froze for 5 minutes so I restarted it but the screen went blank and the apple logo did not appear. I've tried restarting it but no matter what I do, the iPod still will not respond. Help?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • AirPlay iOS 8 iPod Touch 5th Generation Not Available?

I have an iPod Touch 5th generation (latest generation) that was purchased just over a year ago. I am currently running iOS 8.0.2, and cannot connect to a third-party AirPlay streaming device (a Raspberry Pi Model B running OpenElec version 4.2.1 with AirPlay enabled). I have tried multiple approaches to fix this issue (uPnP on my router, enabling other connections such as SSH and Samba), but nothing I do will cause any AirPlay options to come up in the control centre. However, when I look on an iPhone 4s, the AirPlay options come up immediately in the control centre, and AirPlay works with my third-party device and the iPhone 4s. Is there a bug within the iOS 8 configuration for the iPod touch, or are my settings set incorrectly?
**Note: AirPlay worked before I updated to iOS 8

Mine works just fine and I didn't have to do anything.  However, it may be worth your while to try pairing the devices again,  Also, a system reset wouldn't hurt.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless... Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.

  • IPod touch 5th generation not turning on

Hello, my iPod Touch 5th gen will not turn on. When I woke up, it would not switch on from pressing the home button or holding down the top button. Last night, it was working when I put it on the charger. The only change that I had made to the iPod was that I put the newer model of headphones in and left them there overnight, but I don't think that would have caused any problems.

  • IPod touch 5th generation not working right since 8.3 software update.

I am having problems with my iPod 5th generation. Ever since I downloaded the new 8.3 software update when i plug it into my usb in my car my radio is reading my iPod and indexing my car radio will start playing for 23 seconds than it freezes my radio and stays at indexing and when I look at my iPod it's still playing even though the car radio is frozen at the first song it started on. I have no problems with my 4th generation one I plug it into my car and it works fine through my radio it reads that iPod and indexes it and starts playing and stays playing.

There's a couple of things you will want to look at:
    1. Make sure you have the latest version of Remote
    2. Check your firewall settings on your Mac (in System Preferences > Security) and set it to accept all connections.
    3. Remote uses two ports through your router firewall that you may have to enable. See this article for details: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1741

  • Why is my iPod touch 5th gen not responding?

I pushed the sleep/wake button and then I came back to use it. It didn't respond when I pushed the home button and the sleep/wake button and I've tried turning it on. That doesn't work and my iPod is completely unresponsive and blank. I've connected it to my computer and opened iTunes and iTunes didn't register my iPod. I've tried plugging it in and charging it but it didn't respond and remained completely blank. Would be great if someone could help. cheers Daniel

  • 5th generation not recognized after reformat

I recently reformatted my hard drive. Before I did so, I deauthorized the computer for iTunes, backed up my music, etc. I have reinstalled iTunes, authorized the computer, and restored my music and videos. All seems good with iTunes.
However, when I plug my 5th generation Nano in, iTunes is saying it cannot read the content and needs to restore the factory defaults, which would erase all the content. Before I go through the hassle of recreating all my playlists and whatnot, I was trying to find if there may be a workaround or "fix" for this. Any suggestions? I did save the complete My Document\My Music\iTunes directory, so if there is a config file or something that identifies devices, I could restore it. Thanks for any help.
