IPod 5th Generation won't turn on, charge, nor connect to PC.

I have no idea how this iPod came to be this way. It belongs to my 6 year old sister who came to me today asking me to fix it. It's a 5th Generation Product RED iPod Touch.
The problem now is the screen is not displaying anything. Reset doesn't work. DFU doesn't work. When connected to PC both iPod and PC show no response (tried on multiple USB ports on multiple PCs all running Windows 7 64-bit). When plugged in to an iPhone charger, the iPod displays the Apple logo for a few seconds, goes dark for a few seconds and shows the Apple logo again, and the process repeats. I tried to fix it as a reboot loop but to no avail. While Connected to charger, I manage to put it in DFU mode but when plugged out to be plugged in to the PC it dies and doesn't turn on when connected to PC.
Preferrably, I would like to have a solution to this which doesn't wipe the iPod as the iPod was never connected to a PC for backup. Thus, all data on the iPod will ultimately be lost.

See if you missed anything here:
Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Ignore the reset and when it says place the iPod in recovery mode
Place the iPod in recovery mode using one of these programs:

RecBoot may have problems on 64X windows, then try:

  • My Ipod 5th generation won't turn on and the home button is broken. what do i do?

My iPod was working fine all day and then I locked it and when I came back to it, it would not turn on and it had almost a full battery. I have tried to plug it into it's charger but it still wouldn't turn on so I plugged it into the computer and that didn't seem to work either.  I would try the method of holding down the home button and lock button down at the same time but my home button is broken (which I also do not know why it has broken). PLEASE HELP

    Turn on without Home/Power Button

  • My iPod 5th Generation won't turn on.

I've had my iPod for about 6 months now, and today May 1, 2015 it stopped working. My home button is broken and the only way I was able to turn it on is by using the on/off button at the top of the device. So I thought my on/off button was broke too. So I had the idea that if I plugged my lightning cable into my laptop, the iPod will turn on. Usually when you plug an iOS device into your laptop or computer, iTunes will appear. Well, the screen never turned on, and iTunes never appeared. So I manually opened iTunes. I checked the spot where there is usually an indication on whether or not a device is plugged in. Nothing was showing up for my iPod.
I explained the problem and processes I've done as best as I could.
    Thanks for helping!

  • My iPhone 4s won't turn on, charge or connect to iTunes

My iPhone 4s was installing iOs on low battery which I now realise is bad, since that my phone wont turn on, charge or connect to a PC, ive tried pressing the two buttons and nothing works it still remains a black screen and I have also tried charging it with different chargers and different places, (walls, laptops etc) and nothing seems to happen, is there a way I can fix this?

  • My iPod touch 5th generation won't turn on or charge and the home button is broken, how do I get it working?

I've tried buying new chargers and plugging them into different outlets around the house but the iPod will not respond to anything.  The home button is broken so I can't reset the iPod by holding both the home and lock screen buttons down, and it won't even connect to iTunes when plugged into my computer.  How can I fix this issue? The iPod never overheated or anything, and it still had charge left before it quit responding.

Unfortunately for you, the home button is necessary for reset and also to put the device into recovery mode or DFU mode. Since that is not working, and the device is not recognized in iTunes, check the charging port area. There could be dust, lint, etc, that is blocking the connection for charging, and connecting to iTunes. If nothing seems wrong there, then make an appointment at the Genius Bar of the nearest Apple Store or Authorized Apple Service provider, depending on your location. There is no other option.

  • IPod Touch 5th Generation won't turn on and the home button is broken, followed the steps from another thread but it's still not working

I have an iPod Touch 5th Generation with iOS 8.1, my home button is broken and I've been using AssistiveTouch for months now. Today I just locked my iPod and it wouldn't unlock again, it doesn't respond at all, it won't turn on. It was almost fully charged, so it's not the battery. I followed the steps from this thread, but I'm still getting the "USBMuxListenerCreate: No Error" message in CMD Prompt. I bought my iPod abroad and even though I do have the warranty, I've been told at the iStore that it's not valid here, so going to the store isn't really an option. Any ideas how to solve this?

Sorry, but without a working home button it is not possible to reset or restore your device. You should visit an Authorized Appel Service Provider or Apple Store to get it serviced. The warranty for an iPod is not limited to the country where it has been bought, check here: one-year limited warranty
Jailbraking the device will void the warranty.
You can check the warranty status by inserting the serial number on this page: https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do

  • My iPod touch 5th generation won't turn on after the new iOS update

I've just updated my iPod touch 5th generation to the iOS 8.1.1. (or whatever the newest update is) but once it updated, it now won't turn back on. I've tried plugging it into multiple chargers and computers just in case it wasn't charged, and tired turning it on, but all I get is the apple logo and nothing's happening. What can I do? I haven't backed it up this month and I don't want to loose all my stuff. Thanks.

Try the following. It is very likely that the iPod will have to be erased:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

My iPod 5th gen was working fine last night and after charging it won't turn on with power button today. I'm not able to reboot using home button and power button simultaneously because my home button stopped working couple weeks back and I was using touch screen for home function. • My iPod 2nd Generation won't turn on and will not connect to any computer!

A few months ago I woke up one morning and tried to turn on my iPod 2nd generation. It wouldn't, so I thought that maybe it was just out of battery. I plugged it into my computer but it would not connect and charge. I tried pluging it in to many other computers and none of them worked. (I tried MACs and PCs) When this happened my warranty was already up. Now my parents want to bring it in to see what is wrong, WHILE THERE IS NO WARRANTY!!!!!!! I told them that it was a waste of time and money because we would have to pay to see what was wrong. If there is something wrong that is easy to fix great!, but if there is something really wrong with it and it is crazy expensive to fix we just waisted time and money. If there is something wrong but there is no way of fixing it we also wasted time and money!! I have explained all of this to my parents but they won't listen!!! Is it worth it to get it checked out or should I just keep trying to explain to them that it's a waste of time and money????   Help!!

If your iPod is still charging if you plug it to the adapter, let it charge for about 10min, then connect to your computer in recovery mode, explained in this article:
iOS: Unable to update or restore
If it does not charge, you'll have to get it serviced.
Apple can offer you a replacement device, but you'll have to pay for it:
