IPod 60G: way to convert to lower kbps upon import??

I was looking in the iPod help menu for a way to convert my iTunes tracks to a lower kbps upon import (as a way to maximize space). It looks like there is a "convert to lower kbps" button for iPod Shuffle; however, not one for iPod.
Anyone know if there is a way to get this done?? Would rather have my songs at 160 kbps on iTunes and then lower on iPod. The more songs the merrier, ya followin' me??

Itsmyvoodoo,
Welcome to the discussions. There is no option like that on the iPod Shuffle. However, there are ways to do what you want. Check out this repost I made in response to a user who had imported all her music as Apple lossless and had run out of room on her iPod:
"Apple lossless files are the biggest files you can import your music as. You have a couple options now. What you are going to need to do is convert the songs to a smaller file size like AAC. Under your import preferences, change the file type to the one you would like to convert your music too. Then, in library, sort your music by "Kind." If there isn't a "Kind" collumn at the top of your library, right click the "sorting bar" and select Kind. A collumn should appear. Click on it so that the arrow is either pointing up or down. See what file types your songs are. Are there any that are already in the format that you are about to convert to? If so, don't select those songs. Otherwise, select all the songs that are not the file type you would want (we'll say for discussion purposes that you chose AAC under the Import tab). Right click the selected songs, choose "Convert to AAC." iTunes will then copy and paste all the songs you selected into the new file format, AAC. Now, you have two options. If you have plenty of memory on your computer, I would choose Option 2.
Option 1:
You could delete all the music in the Apple Lossless format from your library and continue syncing the iPod automatically.
Pros: You don't have to change any of the settings you use to sync your iPod.
Cons: You delete the higher quality music. If you ever want to play your iPod through a stereo or high quality speakers, you won't have the high quality music to play.
Option 2
Make a Smart playlist (File>Make New Smart playlist). Choose "Kind" in the first drop down menu. Choose "Does Not Contain" from the next drop down menu. Then, type in "Apple Lossless." What this does is essentially create a seperate library for you; one that contains no lossless files. Now, depending on how many playlists you have, you may want to replace the songs in the playlists with AAC files, but if you don't have too many playlists with Lossless files, it should not be a problem. Next, connect your iPod. Go to File>Preferences>iPod Tab Choose automatically update selected playlists only. Then select all the playlists, including the smart playlists, you want to sync onto your iPod. This will sync all the files in your library, excluding those in the lossless format.
Pros: You get the best of both world. You have all the lossless files on your computer, and all the AAC files on your iPod.
Cons: You take up a lot of file space on your computer when you virtually duplicate your library.
Hopefully that wasn't impossible to follow. Try one of the options and see how much file space you save. Post back with any questions."

  • Convert to lower bitrate hangs on some songs

    I recently had to restore an iPod classic. While syncing, I told it to convert all songs to lower bitrate (128 kbps). I've performed  this operation before without mishap, but this time, some songs appear to take MUCH longer to convert (on the order of day for an individual song). At the moment, it has restarted a sync, and it's working on song 5 of 18000. Songs 1-4 went at a normal rate, but song 5 has been working for 2 hours, with my processor (2 core i5 w/ HT) working at 300% on the iTunes process.
    If I remove the song in question (something titled "Intro"), iTunes proceeds along, and hangs on another song in a similar manner. If I uncheck the requirement to convert to lower bitrate, the sync proceeds normally and all of the songs make it onto the iPod.
    Is this a problem with iTunes 11? Or should I be looking at an issue with my individual files? My library is composed of a variety of formats, from 128kbps iTMS files to ALAC CD-rips. If I can avoid it, I'd like to avoid converting the whole library down to 128 or 256kbps AAC and then dealing with duplicates. Any advice?
    Thanks,
    Dustin

    I am experiencing a similar issue with a 5th generation ipod nano.

  • Change the convert to 128 kbps before transferring to iPhone option?

    iTunes gives you the option to convert all higher-bitrate audio to 128 kbps AACs before transferring to my iPhone. Great, except I'd prefer a little higher quality. Is there any way to make it, say, covert to 192 kbps VBR AACs instead?

    if you're converting from a lossless format, you could use this:
    [_*Lossless to AAC Workflow v2.2*_|http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=losslessaccworkflow]
    Two scripts assist with importing/managing Apple Lossless or AIFF audio files and sending converted AAC copies to a mounted iPod set to "manually manage songs and videos".
    *Lossless to AAC Workflow (CD->iPod):*
    Imports each enabled CD track as an Apple Lossless or AIFF file
    Makes a converted AAC copy of each imported file
    Adds the AAC file to iPod, deleting the original AAC from iTunes.
    *Lossless to AAC Workflow (iTunes->iPod):*
    Makes a converted AAC copy of each Apple Lossless or AIFF track selected in iTunes
    Adds the AAC file to iPod, deleting the original AAC from iTunes.
    In this way you can keep archived lossless files on your hard drive, and manageable AAC files on your iPod.
    +Yes, iTunes 9.1 will auto-encode tracks to iPod, but only 128 kbps AAC; these scripts enable use of your Custom AAC encoder setting.+

  • Comparison for iPod Users: Free Online Converter & DVD to iPod Converter

    Compare two channels of obtaining video sources for iPod: one is using online converter, the other is DVD to iPod Converter. After the general introduction of the two methods, I will analyze their advantages and disadvantages for you to choose according to your need.
    Part One: Enjoy YouTube (online videos) on iPod
    Instruction: a useful website to convert online video freely: http://www.vixy.net/
    For vixy, you can just copy the URL of the online video into the “URL” blank of the vixy, then choose the format you want to convert to. Click “Start”. For a short time, the conversion will be finished. You can click the “Download the converted video” to restore the file.
    http://www.aiseesoft.com/images/guide/vixy.jpg
    Advantages: Free online video converter. No software to install. Only a few clicks you can get the converted file after a short while. The most important thing is that online video sources are numerous and original, so you can get the first-hand sources in time through it. Some personal DVs are also shared with you.
    Disadvantages: They set limitation of the length and size of the video. The classical movies usually are not on line available. Even if existed, the quality of image and sound is inferiors.
    Part Two: Enjoy DVD movies on iPod Touch, iPod Nano, iPod Classic, iPhone, iPhone (3G), Apple TV
    We usually bought classical DVD movies for collection or regular watching later, but DVD cannot be copied directly into iPod for us to appreciate it at anytime and anywhere. On this occasion, we need to convert DVD to the format, video and audio settings (Resolution, Bitrate, Frame Rate, etc) supported by your iPod player.
    Instruction: the way to convert DVD to iPod: using Aiseesoft DVD to iPod Converter http://www.aiseesoft.com/dvd-to-ipod-converter.html
    Install and run Aiseesoft DVD to iPod Converter
    http://www.aiseesoft.com/download/dvd-to-ipod-converter.exe
    http://www.aiseesoft.com/images/guide/screen.gif
    Step 1: Click “Load DVD” button to import your DVD
    Step 2: Use “Profile” drop-down list to choose your output format.
    Step 3: Click “Settings” for setting your video parameters.
    At last click “Start” button to start your conversion.
    More tips:
    1. Merge into One File
    If you want to merge the selected contents into one file you can check the "Merge into one file" option. As default the merged file is named after the first selected file (either a title or a chapter)
    2. Movie Effect
    You can set the brightness, contrast, saturation of the video and volume of the audio.
    3. Trim Movie
    It can help you to capture the segment of your movie.
    http://www.aiseesoft.com/images/guide/dvd-to-ipod-thread-trim.jpg
    4. Crop Video
    You can remove black edge of your DVD movie and get any playing area of the video by using its "Crop Mode" function. You can also select "Zoom Mode" to extrude your video slightly to adjust to your portable devices so you can get the best video quality.
    http://www.aiseesoft.com/images/guide/dvd-to-ipod-thread-crop.jpg
    5. Take Snapshot
    It allows you to capture your favorite pictures from your movie.
    Advantages: In this way, you can make full use of your DVD: not only in DVD player, but your iPod player. The function of effecting and trimming allows you to clip the segment of the DVD movies complying with your will. You can enjoy more movies taking full advantage of your spare time while relaxing or traveling.
    Disadvantages: DVD movies are usually popular, lacking of individualization. You can not share others' DVs.
    With these two ways, we can enjoy the pleasure videos bring to us as much as we like. Have fun!

    Depending on what update your iPod is, you may need
    to dowload YAMB to make sure the videos play well on
    your iPod. If you are watching a converted video on
    your iPod and it freezes suddenly and this problem
    continues, you need to download YAMB and convert the
    files already converted with videora iPod converter
    with YAMB, this will only take a few minutes.
    I hope this helps you out.
    Nope. All that a person with that problem should have to do is just update their iPod firmware to 1.1.1 with the newest updater, as that issue has been resolved in the latest firmware.

  • Looking for a simple way to convert a string to title case

    New to LiveCycle and Javascript.  Looking for a simple way to convert a string to title case, except acronyms.  Currently using the the following, it converts acronyms to lower case:
    var str  =  this.rawValue;
    var upCase = str.split(" ");
    for(i=0; i < upCase.length; i++) {
    upCase[i] = upCase[i].substr(0,1).toUpperCase() + upCase[i].substr(1).toLowerCase();
    this.rawValue = upCase.join(' ');

    Thanks for the reply.
    Found the following script in a forum, which works fine as a "custom validation script" in the.pdf version of my form.  However, it will not work in LiveCycle?  The problem seems to be with
    "return str.replace(/[A-Za-z0-9\u00C0-\u00FF]+[^\s-]*/g"
    function toTitleCase(str) {
    var smallWords = /^(a|an|and|as|at|but|by|en|for|if|in|nor|of|on|or|per|the|to|vs?\.?|via)$/i;
        return str.replace(/[A-Za-z0-9\u00C0-\u00FF]+[^\s-]*/g, function(match, index, title){
    if (index > 0 && index + match.length !== title.length &&
      match.search(smallWords) > -1 && title.charAt(index - 2) !== ":" &&
    (title.charAt(index + match.length) !== '-' || title.charAt(index - 1) === '-') &&
    title.charAt(index - 1).search(/[^\s-]/) < 0) {
    return match.toLowerCase();
    if (match.substr(1).search(/[A-Z]|\../) > -1) {
      return match;
      return match.charAt(0).toUpperCase() + match.substr(1);
    event.value = toTitleCase(event.value);

  • Converting from low-res to high-res

    I have read that there are ways to convert low res files to higher res upon export with Lightroom (perhaps via interpolation).  Can anyone tell me how to accomplish this?   Thanks!

    When you're exporting, set the size in the export window.  LR will up or down size as needed to make the final image that size.

  • Quick way to convert many files from AIFF to MP3

    I have a large collection of CDs and until now, did not have a computer or an iPod to hold all of them. I borrowed a friends external hard drive and copied all of the cd files onto it. I just recently bought a MacBook Pro, and loaded all of the files into my iTunes... Only to find that since I couldn't import the cds into an iTunes in the first place, only the file names transferred over- not the album/artist info. So I have been spending a lot of time adding that info manually. I also just realized that all of the files were in AIFF format, and not MP3 so they are taking up a large amount of space on my itunes. I have not yet gotten a better iPod, so they are just sitting in my iTunes right now. I was hoping there is an easy way to convert them all to MP3 without having duplicates in my iTunes to weed through. I have 4000+ songs, so that would take a while.
    also, if there is some magical way to get the artist/album info without having to type it all in, that would be great too.
    thanks in advance.

    Yes highlight the ones you want to convert and follow the instructions in this support document: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1550
    without having duplicates in my iTunes to weed through. I have 4000+ songs, so that would take a while.
    There is no weeding necessary. After the converion completes, sort by Date Added and all the new ones will be together.

    Playlists on the iPhone are the same as on the iPod. Just connect the iPhone and go to the iPhone Music tab in iTunes. You can check the playlists you want on the iPhone.
    One "trick" is to create a new playlist and just drag all of the music you want on the iPhone to this playlist, then sync only that playlist.
    Another option is to use the "Convert higher bit rate songs to 128kbps AAC" on the iphone Summary page in iTunes. This will compress the music and you will lose some quality, but unless you are using $500 headphones you won't notice.
    The manual is in Safari on your phone; its a predefined bookmark. You can also download a PDF:

  • Best way to convert InDesign stories to text doc?

    Is there a fast, easy way to convert multiple stories in ID to one RTF or Word document?
    I do quarterly publications that are composed of dozens (sometimes hundreds) of individual text frames, tables and graphics. The text comes from numerous sources. Before each new issue, the contributors need their pages from the previous issue in an editable format (MS Word) which they revise and send back to me.
    I've been spending hours copying and pasting each story into a Word Doc for each contributor. This has given me the most accurate results, but it's incredibly tedious and time consuming. And the tables always need to be cleaned up and reformatted in Word.
    I've also tried using the script to export all stories, but then I wind up with a bazillion small files. (Is there a way to combine them into one file?)
    I've also tried saving the PDF as a Word doc or RTF file, but there is too much editing required to make it presentable.
    Any suggestions or tips are greatly appreciated!!

  • Is there a "one-touch" way to convert to my existing library to DNG?

    Is there a "one-touch" way to convert to DNG?
    My Aperture library currently has three types of files: JPEG files taken with point-and-shoot camera going back for years, (ii) RAW (NEF) files made with a Nikon D60, (iii) RAW (CR2) files made with a Canon G9, and (iv) RAW (DNG) files I have shot recently.
    I am interested in converting all the non-DNG RAW files (NEFs and CR2s) into the Adobe DNG file format. I understand that the format has a smaller file size (than the original RAW file) and that it is "lossless" (unlike converting to JPEG). So, in addition to "standardizing" my file-types, it will also reduce my overall library size (in GBs).
    So, the question is: is there a way to take my existing Aperture library and, through some (hopefully free) combination of scripts and programs, convert all the RAW files to DNG automatically and without having to export each one from Aperture and them import it again. That is, I want a solution that will look at each file and ignore the JPEGs and DNGs, (ii) convert the NEFs and CR2s into DNG, and (iii) move the original NEF/CR2 files to a folder (just in case)?
    This is not an problem going forward, because I can easily just import as DNG to begin with ... but its an issue for a few thousand images in my library.
    Any ideas? Also, anyone think this is a crazy bad idea?
    Thanks,
    ~B

    Do you find that using Aperture to "import" the pictures (e.g., using the import function on Aperture and pointing it at your memory card) gives better results than using the DNG converter to "import" (e.g., by selecting the camera memory card and saving the conversions to disk, then importing those DNG files into Aperture)?
    Not the way it works. The camera memory card does not have conversions on it, it has RAW (or JPEG) image files.
    IMO generally most useful to help keep drives underfilled and fast (drives slow as they fill) is to manage by Reference ("referenced images") as in the workflow outline below where Master images can live anywhere. However with small changes similar workflow could be applied to Managed Masters.
    I feel pretty strongly that card-to-Aperture or even camera-to-Aperture handling of original images puts originals at unnecessary risk. I suggest this workflow, first using the Finder (not Aperture) to copy images from CF card to computer hard drive:
    • Remove the CF card from the camera and insert it into a CF card reader. Faster readers and faster cards are preferable, and Firewire is much preferable to USB2.
    • Finder-copy images from CF to a labeled folder on the intended permanent Masters location hard drive.
    • Eject CF.
    • Burn backup hard drive or DVD copies of the original images (optional recommended backup step).
    • Eject backup hard drive(s) or DVDs.
    • From within Aperture, import images from the hard drive folder into Aperture selecting "Store files in their current location." This is called "referenced images." During import is the best time to also add keywords, but that is another discussion.
    • Review pix for completeness (e.g. a 500-pic shoot has 500 valid images showing).
    • Reformat CF in camera, and archive originals off site on hard drives and/or on DVDs.
    Note that the "eject" steps above are important in order to avoid mistakenly working on removable media.
    Alternatively, does anyone actually use (or recommend) Nikon-branded software for any step in this process? If your camera shoots JPG (as all mine did till a few months ago), it does not matter ... but does the RAW thing change that equasion?
    Yes RAW changes the equation. Folks who want the very best NEF conversions will use Nikon Capture NX2 but the interface *****. Personally I find Aperture very good for the D2x.
    Good luck!

    Hi ,
    There is an option of embedding index for faster search while converting email to a PDF .
    However I am not sure that will serve your purpose or not .
    I would recommend you to get in touch with Microsoft support as well .
    Meanwhile I'll work on it and get back to you in case I get a desired solution .

    The program doest enterpret my figures from the text file in the correct way since the numbers contain dots instead of commas. Is there a way to fix this in labVIEW, or do I have to change the files before reading them in the program? Thanks beforehend!

    You must go in the labview option menu, you can select 'use the local

    If you use the "From Exponential/Fract/Eng" vi, you are able to select this
