Ipod 7th gen not found in Itunes

I bought a new nano and it will not show up in itunes. I have updated Itunes fully and my computer still reads the ipod under "unspecified" devices. I restarted the computer and ipod and i have looked in the device description and details and have found no useful info. Please Help

Hi, there!
Try resetting the nano (not a restore, it will keep your data intact):
1: Press and hold the Lock and Home button at the same time until the screen goes dark (it will not go through a shutdown process, the screen will go pitch black).
2: Wait 15-20 seconds and turn the Nano on again.
If that doesn't work, uninstall and reinstall iTunes. The built-in update doesn't always work right, so I've found.

  • IPod nano 7th gen not found in iTunes/"no disc in drive" Windows computer.

I bought a brand new iPod nano 7th generation yesterday. When I plugged it into my Windows computer it began set up then stopped and a pop up appeared ''no disc in drive'' directly after that the next pop up read ''iPod cannot sync because it was not found''. My iPod is charging the entire time until that second pop up appears and then my iTunes acts as if the device was unplugged from the computer, it stops charging and at the top of my iTunes screen it says "OK to disconnect". I tried putting my iPod into "disk mode" but the same two pop ups still come up and the same thing happens. And even though iTunes recognizes the iPod as being unplugged even before it is, even after I do unplug it my computer still thinks it's attached, down in my tool bar it's still there waiting to be disconnected. As soon as iTunes begins starting up with my iPod it says there's no disc and then that the iPod can't be found even though it's still plugged in. I can't get any music on it let alone get my computer to recognize it for longer than 30 seconds. I really don't want to return it because my iPhone4 is full and can't fit any more music so I needed this iPod.

    Hello Abbey,
I would recommend the steps in this article named iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows found here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538. While the title of the article describes a symptom a bit different from yours, I feel the troubleshooting is still relevant.
If that does not resolve the issue, then I would suggest this article to help troubleshoot the USB connection.

  • Ipod nano (both 6th and 7th gen) not recognized by itunes

Ipod nano (both 6th and 7th gen) not recognized by itunes. Before you send me to the help pages, i have followed EVERY STEP you provided, from uninstalling, removing temp files... you name it. I was recently upgraded to windows 8.1.

For anyone else having this problem, I found this solution to work. Try this first:
    a) Get Windows to restart the drivers:
        - disconnect your USB device and close ITunes
        - connect your USB device
        - if ITunes loads, close it.
    b) File explorer:
Open File explorer and browse to
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
In that folder there should be a set of files named "usbaapl64...."
right click on the one ending in "INF"
    Select Install.  It's very quick.
    remove the USB device
    c) Restart the computer.
When you login again, load ITunes before you attach your USB device.
d)If you just want to add some photos, songs and movies from computer to your devices, you can use an iTunes alternative to do the job.
    f) If still not works, try re-install iTunes. Go into the Unstall Programs (in Control Panel) and uninstall everything that says Apple, and uninstall Bonjour. With the fresh install of iTunes, everything came back and is should work. Hope it helps.

    Hey there Miles,
It sounds like your iPod isn't showing in iTunes when you connect it to your Mac. I would start with this bit from the following article:

First, try the steps in the iPod Troubleshooting Assistant which applies to your iPod.

  • IPod nano 7th gen not recognised in iTunes using Windows 8.1

I have an older 3rd generation iPod nano and a new 7th gen nano and I would like to sync them to the same iTunes on my Dell laptop (Inspiron 7520) running Win8.1. I have also updated iTunes to the latest version.
When I connect the new 7th gen iPod nano to my laptop via USB (tried all 4 ports)  I get the following error message from iTunes:
"An iPod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPod, then try again."
I've been through most of http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3218  and still get the error message although I haven't tried connecting the iPad nano 7th gen to an older Win7 laptop yet with a fresh iTunes install.
When connecting the iPod nano7 Win8.1 recognises E: as an iPod very briefly after I have run a scan via McAfee. After a few seconds the E: drive disappears and iTunes reports the error message as above.  Sometimes, E: doesn't disappear in Win8.1 but I still get the iTunes error message and the iPod nano itself goes from Connected to Main menu.
Any ideas how I can get iTunes to recognise my 7th gen nano?  I'm not sure if this is a Win8.1 problem or iTunes.

  • IPod 2nd gen not showing in iTunes

My iPod 2nd gen hadn't been used for a while, and the battery was dead.  I charged it, and connected it to my Mac Mini (1st gen).  It is now continuously blinking orange but is not showing up as a device in iTunes (v. 10.6.3).  According to the manual, the blinking means it's syncing in iTunes, or the iPod shuffle is enabled for disk use.  I don't know what the latter means.
I'm using the original dock, but it is connected to a USB port on my external hard drive which is connected to the mini, since the 1st gen Mini doesn't have enough USB ports.  (That shouldn't be a problem though, because my 3rd gen iPod nano shows up in iTunes using that same port.)
I've tried twice to get it to show up in iTunes.  The first time it was already connected to the USB port but wasn't showing any lights, and it didn't show up in iTunes.  I turned the shuffle off, waited 5 seconds, and turned it on again.  Still didn't show up, so I manually removed it from the dock and unplugged the dock. Then I plugged the dock in again, and put the ipod firmly into the dock.  Then the orange blinking lights started, but it didn't show up in iTunes that time either.  I did get an error message that it had not been put away properly.
Since it wasn't showing up anywhere that I could find (iTunes, Finder, Desktop) to eject it, I shut down the computer, removed the iPod from the dock, restarted the computer, opened iTunes and then put the iPod in the dock. It still doesn't show up as a device in the left-side sidebar of iTunes where it usually does, right after Library, Store, and before Playlist).  I can't put it away properly now because I can't find it to eject it. It's still blinking orange.  (The right sidebar only has a message about Genius and learning to use it).
I've read previous questions similar to this, but nothing suggested there has worked.  If anyone has suggestions/idea, it would be greatly appreciated.
    My O.S. is 10.5.8.
    Thanks,
    Esther

Thanks for providing a good amount of detail.
Enable disk use is a setting (checkbox) on the shuffle's Settings tab in iTunes.  It allows you to see the iPod's "disk" on the Desktop continously while it is connected, so that you can copy files to it using Finder (like it was a USB flash drive).  The light blinks as a warning to eject before disconnecting, because the iPod's disk is mounted.  If that checkbox is NOT checked, iTunes only mounts the iPod's disk when syncing, so the light does not blink most of the time (and you can disconnect it without ejecting).
Although you have confirmed that the USB port on the external drive (Is it an OWC miniStack?), which is the same as a powered USB hub, works with another iPod, you may want to disconnect something from a direct USB port temporarily.  Connect the shuffles docking cable there, to confirm it's not the port causing the problem.
If you connect it and run Disk Utility instead of iTunes, does it appear in the Disk Utility sidebar?
Since this is a 2nd gen shuffle, and you use a Mac, you can try using the iPod Reset Utility

  • IPOD 3rd Gen not recognized by itunes on firewire but it does on USB

    Hi,
I have a 3rd gen Ipod (the one with the buttons) since its release date.
    It worked perfectly with FIREWIRE.
Months ago i restore it and now it's a mess.
I have to connect it via USB to sync it with my itunes library, to
delete music, to add new one, or use it as a hard disk. But,
the battery doesn't charge (actually the battery now only lasts for 1 hour)
If i want to charge the battery i have to connect the ipod to the computer
via FIREWIRE, but it doesn't get recognized by itunes, so i cant update
    it.
I wanted to restore the ipod but if i connect it via USB, itunes send me a message
that i have to connect it via firewire in order to restore it. But if I connect it
via FIREWIRE i can't restore it because ITUNES doesn't recognize it.
I hope someone can help me.
    thanks a lot

  • My iPod shuffle is not found in iTunes but is found on Windows

Ok here is my problem. When I purchased my iPod I loaded the iTunes program onto my computer from the disk that was included. For awhile I was able to import songs and add them to my iPod. After a few weeks I tried to add more songs to my iPod but when I connected it to the USB port in the back of my computer the iTunes program said there was not an iPod connected. At that time I did all of the 5 R's and eventually iTunes recognized my iPod and I was able to add my songs back to it. When I tried to add songs a few weeks later it did the same thing. I have tried every USB port that is located on my computer and it still does not show in iTunes. I have done ALL of the 5 R's. I have deleted the iTunes program and everything associated with it and reloaded it again (I have done this 3-4 times). My iPod is showing up in Windows but it is not showing up in iTunes. I have looked at all the manuals online and done everything they have told me to do and I still can't get this thing to work. So now I have an iPod with no music on it and can't get the program to acknowledge my iPod. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

    Question -
When you say your iPod is recognized by MyComputer, is it showing as an Apple iPod or a Removable Disk?
You might want to try restoring the iPod once more, and if it doesn't correct the issue or if you're unable to restore, you can go ahead and format the iPod through Windows. Doing so will erase everything on the iPod, however, it normally allows iTunes to recognize it right away.
To reformat the iPod through Windows:
-Connect the iPod and wait for it to be recognized in My Computer.
-Right Click on the iPod's icon in My Computer, whether it is an Apple iPod or a Removable Disk.
    -Click on Format
    -Click on QuickFormat
    -Click on Start
When it is complete, iTunes should open more or less automatically with the iPod Setup Assistant, where you can rename it and sync files to it.
**Note: Sometimes, when going through this, your computer will become extremely sluggish. It is important to be patient, and not click on the buttons more than once.
    Good luck!

I've tried restarting the computer, deinstalling & reinstalling new iTunes, but to no avail. Help!

Ever since I got ipod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly.

  • Ipod nano 7th gen. not visible in itunes.

Whenever I connect my brand new ipod to my pc i can see it in 'my computer' but not in itunes. I have tried everything, mulitiple times, on the support pages and nothing seems to work. I have run an itunes diagnostic and the only test that failed was the one where ipod wasn't found. I have tried to uninstalled all programs that may cause interference. I don't know what else to do.

This came from another thread, but worked for me.  Problem is with newest iTunes 4.62 and Windows 8.1.  Unistall iTunes, as well as its helper programs (Apple Application Support, Apple Mobile Divice Support, and Apple Software Update).  You MUST get rid of those "helper" programs!! Reboot, and reinstall iTunes.  It will reinstall all the other ones and you should be able to connect your nano.  Good luck.
