IPod 80 GB stuck after disconnecting

I just bought two iPod's 80 GB for my daughters.
The first one I synchronised flawlessly with my iTunes library, although it took 12 hours with the USB-connection to load the some 9,000 songs.
The second one started the synchronisation process, when I saw that I had mistyped my daughter's name. I tried to correct it, but to no avail. So I made the stupid and fatal mistake: Remembering that it took 12 hours to load, I disconnected the iPod while loading, assuming that I could restart it easily.
Now the iPod is not recognised by the computer, let alone iTunes.
When connected to the USB bus it has two alternate states:
1. unlit grey display, showing the Apple logo.
a soft clicking sound reminding of a disk starting up is heard
After a couple of minutes the second states appears for some minutes
2. unlit grey display with a large battery icon showing about 1/4/ charge
This goes on and on.
Reset, restart, reinstall, nothing works.
I appreciate all help.

Try putting the iPod in disk mode:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
Then connect it to iTunes, and restore it once it is recognized. If it's not recognized by iTunes but appears on the desktop, go into Disk Utility and erase the drive, then try again.

  • Playlist on ipod different from computer after disconnecting

Hi! This just starting happening once I upgraded to Itunes 9. I sync my ipod and iphone and the playlists (mostly just my top 25 most played) are the same UNTIL I disconnect them from the computer. Then they're magically different. HELP!

Frequently a restore is required for your problem:
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
      - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Ipod won't work after disconnecting improperly

My husband shut down the computer while the Ipod Nano was still connected -- it wasn't ejected properly. Now...when I plug the Nano in to the computer, it alternately flashes the Apple logo and then the low battery icon over and over. I've tried:
    1. Rebooting it by toggling on/off the hold button and then pressing Menu and Select at the same time. Nothing.
    2. Recharging it in the car. (The Nano did work in the car!) When I went to turn it on after I removed it from the car, it went back to the flashing apple/low-battery icons.
    3. I re-installed Ipod and updater software. Nothing changed.
    So...what should I try next?

    Try this then...

  • Songs appear on iPod in iTunes, but after disconnected, pod is empty

    HELP HELP HELP
I'm having a very strange issue. I copy songs from my iBook to my iPod, and they appear on the pod in iTunes, but when I disconnect the iPod, the pod says there are no songs on it.
I've tried EVERYTHING!! I reformatted the iBook, restored the iPod, tried different USB port, set up a different user, etc...
The strange thing is, when I use the iPod on my G4 Tower (exact same operating system as the iBook), the songs transfer fine. And when I use an older 3G iPod on the iBook, the songs transfer over fine. It's like the iPod and the iBook just don't get along!!

This Apple knowledge-base article may help address that issue.

  • IPod reformatted after disconnecting using Vista

    Help!!
My iPod got reformatted/restored after I disconnected it in Windows Explorer using the new Vista. GRRR.
I don't suppose there's anything that can be done to salvage my files that were in my iPod?
Anyway, now when I try to connect it to my computer with the latest iTunes version,
    1) it takes forever to detect and load,
    2) iTunes says that it is corrupt, and when it opens, the capacity, software version, serial number are all shown as n/a,
    3) when I try to restore it, it says that there was a problem downloading the iPod software and that the requested resource was not found (I've already tried deleting the 'iPod software update' as instructed on one of the tutorials),
    4) I can't add music or any files to it!!!
Can anybody enlighten me? This has caused my ALOT of distress.
Mine is a 4th gen iPod.
    Thanks in advance!

As a follow up. I reset the ipod. I plugged the ipod classic 160GB into a computer running windows XP and got the same result: stuck at "Syncing iPod Do not disconnect" and iTunes hung. My conclusion is that the bug is in the ipod and not Vista.
I agree with the poster that concluded that Apple released this ipod too early with inadequate testing.
Anyone else notice that each generation of ipod comes packaged with less extras?!
ex. with gen 5.5 you got a nice sleeve and a hard case with belt clip, with gen 6.0 you got neither. Seems to me Apple's policy has become: "we've got loyal customers, time to screw 'em over"

my ipod touch is stuck on the apple logo and after a while a white screen comes up and it restarts and the same thing all over agan. this happened to me before and after a while it turns on but why does it keep on doing this?

Try connecting the iPod Touch to your computer and restore it.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • IPod Touch 4g stuck in recovery mode after iso 5.0 upgrade attempt

Sorry that I'm late to the party and too stupid not to know better when updating my ipod touch just days after the update was released, when will I learn.
I have tried nearly everything I've seen posted in this community and others ... unpluging all usb, holding down sleep and home, re-installing itunes 10.5 ... you name it.
I can't find an answer to this problem anywhere, but rather people yelling at other people for not being able to help and badmouthing eachother because they are ****** off at Apple.
Is there any updated news on what the issue is with error 1604 or why Idevices are getting stuck in recovery mode?
Are the servers still swamped and I just can't get through?
Next time I will wait about 3 months before upgrading a new operating system (but then, I think I said that the last time I did this.)
    Thanks for any help.

Try a manual install, as outlined in the link below. You can kick it out of Recovery Mode using RecBoot.

  • My ipod 4 is stuck in recovery mode after trying to update to 8.0.2

I started to download the new update this morning when it said i did not have enough memory for it, so i deleted a few things and re tried and this time it worked. However once it was done downloading it said i needed to install it, which when i pressed for it to install then said i did not have enough memory to install, so once again i deleted a few things and pressed for it to install again but this caused my iPod to go into recovery mode. when i plugged it into my computer and started up iTunes it said i needed to restore my iPod, having a back up already i did not really care so i selected for it to restore and update however all that happens is the loading bar that says connecting to iPod update server which after a few seconds closes and at the same time my iPod disconnects from iTunes. i have tried multiple times to update and restore it but the same thing keeps happening.  has this anyone got a fix?

Try the following. Jump to DFU mode.
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
    Also maybe:
    Update Server
    Try:
    - Powering off and then back on your router.
    - iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
    - Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers
    Public DNS — Google Developers
    OpenDNS IP Addresses
    - For one user uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes resolved the problem
    - Try on another computer/network
    - Wait if it is an Apple problem

  • IPod Nano (4th Generation) switches on when connected to USB power - shows Menu & hangs (unresponsive to click wheel) - deems off after 5-sec - Switches off after disconnecting from USB Power - syncs with iTunes - Tried 5R's - Problem still persists

    1. The iPod Nano (4th Generation - 8GB) switches on, only when connected to USB power by showing apple logo and displays Menu options thereafter..
    2. However, I can not access Menu as it is unresponsive to click wheel. As a result it is inaccessible to any further use,
    3. NOTE: it displays "Battery Fully charged" icon on the screen without any "Lock" icon.
    4. After  5-sec to 10-secs the screen deems off.. i.e. goes to sleep mode.. And thereafter would probably remain like that (sleeeping) for eternity!!!!
    5. It Switches off after WITHOUT DISPLAYING any Apple Logo immediately after disconnecting from USB Power.
    6. In other words, it can be switched on only through USB power in spite of battery being fully charged.
    7. Interestingly, it syncs with iTunes. It is recognised in iTunes (Latest version 11+).. Displays on screen all commands Like.. syncronising, connecting, connected,
    8. Allows to add Music, videos like a normal ipod & displays all status information in iTunes.
    9. Read Trobleshooting & Tried all 5R's. Registered, Resetted, updated & Restored to iOS 1.0.2
    10. It is now displaying to select Language in place of Menu options, with no access through click wheel, centre button whatsoever... Problem still persists
KINDLY GUIDE ME THE SOLUTION. APPRECIATE YOUR RESPONSE in advance...

Did you try to restore it with itunes it should work then.Or try and reset it by going to settings/general/reset. If it doesn't work than go to apple some time and tell them about the error if they don't fix it than I am confused and have no clue what to do.
