IPod AC Adapters + Foreign adapter plugs

I will be traveling to France in the next couple of weeks and was wondering if I could attach an adapter plug to the prongs of my American iPod AC adapter and be able to use it, or would it just fizzle out? This could be a very stupid question but I wanted to make sure.
  Windows XP

Not really a reply, but piggybacking on the topic raised in this thread:
I'm travelling to India next week, and discovered - to my surprise -
that the World Travel Adapter Kit (WTAK) doesn't have anything that
works with India's electrical plug standard. In the dim recesses of my
memory, I recall that someone had ferretted out the name of the OEM
supplier of Apple's Powerbook AC adapter, and discovered an aftermarket
supplier of various plugs that fit them, much like the ones in the
WTAK, but with support for other electrical standards - which might
even iinclude India's.
And yes, I realize I can stick a converter plug on the end of standard
Edison cable and handle it that way, but I'll be moving around a lot,
and having a dedicated plug on the end of the Apple adapter cube will
be much slicker.
Can anyone help? The usual search engines have come up empty. I recall
the supplier being Asian, with an odd name, but that's probably not
much help. The irony is that one search took me to the Apple Store in
Indai's listing for the WTAK, which of course does not help anyone
either in India or travelling there at all.
Thanks in advance.

  • Updated iPod now I have to plug into wall with adapter?

    Hi,
New to this board and hoping someone can help.
Downloaded the iPod Updater last night and now my iPod is asking me to plug it into an external power source using an adapter. Why? I don't have an adapter. (I know I can buy one but I don't see why I should have to in order to complete the update). Looks like I can't use the iPod until I do so because the power adapter/wall plug icon always shows when I try to turn on the iPod.
    Am I missing something here?
    IBM   Windows XP

1st Gen minis required a connection to the power adapter to complete the Firmware update. AC adapters were provided in the box with all 1st Gen minis. 2nd Gen minis do not need this step.
You'll need to find an adapter to complete the process. Sometimes an auto DC charger can also work.
No way around this requirement for the 1st Gen mini (and some earlier iPods as well).

  • Can I charge my ipod classic in Germany with the same usb wall charger I use in the USA, by plugging it directly into the correct adapter plug? Or do I need a power converter/transformer?

I will be in Germany for a year. I want to take my ipod classic and charge it with a usb wall charger, like I do here in the USA. Can I simply use the correct wall adapter plug for Germany, or must I use a power converter/transformer in between?

It should work as long as the prongs adapter are adapted to the outlet configuration.

Charge it up fully. Toggle the hold switch. Try getting into diagnostics mode again. See Corrupt iPod classic.

  • Can I use my old charging cube purchased with and iPod Photo that has international plugs to charge my iPhone 4S?

I have an old charging cube that I purchased with my iPod Photo several years ago.  It has various adapter plugs to use in other countries some of which have 220 volts.  In the USA we use 110 volts.
Can I use the old cube with the proper plug to charge my iPhone 4S in Israel?
    Thanks in advance.

    The power will be okay.
If the dock cannot take adapters, I strongly advise you to not use the dock (if you want to keep it), without creating support for the iPhone. It will break; had this happen to an iHome with my 5th gen iPod, due to the lack of accessories to support the new iPod profile.

  • IPod Nano 4g charging adapter?

    Hello,
    I have a question...
I have a few accessories that my ipod hooks up to. I've been using a 1st gen 1 gb nano, and finally upgraded to a 16gb 4th gen. Of course, my accessories no longer charge my ipod.
Is there any chance that there is an adapter out there that can plug in, in line, to these accessories and allow the ipod to charge.
about 50% of the reason i upgraded was to have more music in the car on long trips...but after going on a trip for 3 days, my ipod died in the car and left me musicless.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks!
    damon

You get "Charging is not supported with this accessory" if you plug an iPod nano 4th generation, iPod touch 2nd generation, or iPhone 3G into an older accessory like some speaker docks, a Bose SoundDock I, some FM transmitters/car chargers, and some built-in iPod car adapters.
Scosche (among others) offers adapters that allow you to use the new iPods with older accessories:

    http://scosche.com/products/productID/1695
    http://scosche.com/products/productID/1694
The reason for the charging issue? The new iPods only charge from "USB power" while the older accessories only provide "Firewire power". "USB power" is 5 Volts on pin 23 of the 30 pin iPod connector and "Firewire power" is 12 Volts on pins 19 and 20. Aha, now you see the problem.

  • I just got a new ipod 5 and when I plugged in the charging cord that came with it, it says it is not supported, and may not charge. It worked the first few times, but now it won't charge at all.

    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. The cable as well as the iPod, is covered by the warranty.

  • Power adapter plugs - all the same?

Is the removable plug for all white power adapters, regardless of wattage, the same? i.e. - Could I remove the extended adapter plug cable on my iBook power adapter and use it on my MacBook Pro power adapter?
According to Apple's store description of their world power adapter plug kit, that would seem to be the case. However, the new MacBook is conspicuously absent from their list of compatible devices. Surely this is just an oversight, but it makes me pause for a moment to question the inter-compatibility of these plugs.

It's just a cable - If it fits yes.

  • Can get past the "Power adapter plugging into wall" icon

I just got my brothers older 60gb Photo ipod and am trying to get it working on my computer. Did the whole restore thing, but now it is stuck at the Power adapter plugging into wall icon. I didn't have the original wall plug so I got a universal one at Radio Shack. Only the ipod still has the darn icon on it and I can't get past it. Any suggestions>

Lets do a trick. Connect the iPod and the cabel. The USB connector has 2 prongs that stick out a little more than the rest the goal. is to push it in a little so it charges but does not sync. Give It A Try.

  • Power Adapter Plug Keeps Disconnecting on 1.67Ghz ***

I constantly have to re-push in my power adapter plug into the
Powerbook 1.67 Ghz. It seems as though the socket in the Powerbook just wants to squeeze the male part of the adapter back out again and again. I have 2 power adapters that this happens with, so I am almost certain it's the female socket on the Powerbook itself.
Has anybody been able to get Apple to cover this problem under warranty?
    - Ted

If you are still under warranty I would suggest you contact AppleCare regarding your issue. Every case is unique so just because one person may have gotten it fixed, or has been refused, does not necessarily mean this will fillow in all cases.
