IPod adds songs VERY slowly

I'm having major problems with my iPod. First, one day it just started skipping every single song, wouldn't play a song. So i reset it, nothing. I plugged it into my computer and multiple times it froze my iTunes. I reinstalled iTunes and my ipod software. Eventually (after about the 5th time trying to connect it) my computer recognized it, I restored it, then went to add my some 3,000 songs back to my ipod and now it adds them very slowly. Once it gets to about 50 songs iTunes pretty much freezes. Any Suggestions?

Have you been through these?

  • My iPod loads songs very slowly

I had some trouble with the battery-life of my iPod, and I thought erasing the whole iPod would cure this, so I've resetted it. After doing this, my iPod, upon connecting it with my PC (Sony Vaio notebook - Windows XP SP2), started loading songs very slowly. Whereas the transfer of a song used to last a fraction of a second, now a song takes up to 30 sec to be transferred. At this speed, uploading my +4000 songs takes ages.
I've already installed the latest version of iTunes (6.0) and the iPod updater, but nothing seems to help.
I've connected the iPod to another computer where the iPod was originally linked to. On this computer an old version of iTunes (4.5) was installed and some songs. The transfer went OK. So the problem was with my Sony Vaio.
I've disabled Norton Internet Security and Norton Antivirus from the Sony but this made no difference.
Could there be a problem with my firewire-connection to the iPod ? How can I speed it up ? I would certainly appreciate it if someone out there could help me. Many thanks in advance.

Have you tried another USB port?
    Another computer?
    Another Cable?
    A wall charger?

    Hi,
My ipod is snyching fine and very fast up to song 269 then synching VERY VERY slowly, like a song every minute or two.

For starters, can you do the iPod Disk diagnostic as posted earlier by tt2, it wont fix your problem, but helps in troubleshooting.

  • Ipod synched to only one library at a time - can not add songs?

I initially loaded my shuffle with songs on a friends computer. Now I want to add more songs to it but if I plug it into a different computer in itunes I get an error message that says my ipod is synced with another library, it can only be synced with one so my only option is to delete my ipod and sync with the new library? (my friends computer crashed months ago so there is no option of getting those songs or going back to that computer to change my settings) I do not want to delete my ipod and start over. Is this specific to the shuffle because I know people who have plugged ipods into other friend's computers to add songs? Has anyone else had this problem and do you know how to fix it? Thanks!

It's specific to the shuffle and is supposed to prevent (easy) theft of music.
Advising you how to circumvent this is actually against the terms of use of this forum...HOWEVER (from the very fine "iPod shuffle Features Guide:")
    Important:
Once you’ve synced iPod shuffle with the iTunes library on a computer, a
message appears whenever you connect iPod shuffle to another computer, asking if
you want to sync with the iTunes library on the new computer. Click Cancel if you want
to keep the current music content on iPod shuffle. Or, click Transfer Purchases to keep
the contents on iPod shuffle and copy the purchased songs on it to the iTunes library
on the new computer. See iTunes Help for more information.

  • How can i add songs to my ipod touch???????

apparently apple has done another update, and a whole revamp of the original layout and i can not find ANYTHING any more. updates dont work and it says my 2000 pictures are gone and my 500 songs show as only 1 song.....which is the ONE new song i just added. what the heck did they do????? how can i upload anything?????
I promise you i will NEVER EVER buy anything from apple ever again. This has been my first and final purchase because they seem to make it soooooo overly complicated that i just want to smash the machine to bits and go buy something else.....which is in the very near future. I can get a $50 mp3 touch screen player with 32GB through walmart right now that does EVERYTHING this ipod touch does and if it breaks WHO CARES IT WAS $50!!!! Unlike the $400 i spent on this piece of crap. But the best feature on the cheap walmart one is the ability to use it and understand it!!!
So for now, because i am giving this pos to my son to play with all he wants, how do i get it to add songs?????
    Thank you.

I'd suggest restoring it to make sure you start completely clean:

Then you can sync whatever content you wish:

how to make each playlist for each movie songs ? when i tried to add songs all movie songs comes in row , its very difficult to find which movie song belongs?

Thank you! I put some self help hypnosis tracks to listen to on my iPod. I did not want to go to the next track automatically, I wanted to listen to them individually, one at a time. (If I fell asleep, I did not want to 'wake up' in the middle of a different track.) Your information helps me understand that I need to re-load this playlist onto my iPod from my  Mac computer, only first, I need to UNCHECK the boxes in front of each track so the iPod will STOP each time after playing the selected track. It is too bad that so many functions are not availabvle within the iPod, but that is probably why they can make it so compact.

  • New iPod touch, no longer able to add songs via iTunes

Have a new iPod touch, less than a week old. 3.1.2 OS and 9.0.2 iTunes on an iMac.
Was loading songs manually, walked away for a little while, left the iPod connected, now I cannot add songs.
I've restored the iPod, still unable to drop songs onto it from iTunes. I set it to sync checked songs, will not load that way either.
It will load apps, I reloaded the apps, but songs will not go on it. Drive isn't full, after the restore I loaded apps, about 4 gigs worth, and tried songs but nada, zip, zilch.
    Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

    Oddness...
Tried adding songs numerous ways, nothing. Walk away for a bit, come back, now I can add songs.
iPod gremlins? Taking it back tomorrow to see if they have any ideas...

  • My new ipod touch 4g 8gb wont let me add songs/apps/etc from itunes

i just exchanged my old ipod for a brand new one at the apple store (both touch;4g) because the home button wont work
when i try to add songs or apps to it (since it has nothing on it) it wont let me. i made sure to authorize my computer, too. it has a 'not allowed' symbol (crossed out circle) next to my ipod when i try to drag songs/apps/videos to it.
when i first plugged it in the other day, i used a back-up of my old ipod but it didnt do anything since i didnt back up my old ipod in the first place. when i wasnt able to add my songs/apps, i reset my ipod and 'started over' w/o a backup and it still didnt work
i also have the latest version of itunes on a windows xp computer
any help would be greatly appreciated ^_^
    thanks, Alyssa

Unplug iphone > open itunes > delete all music from itunes library > close itunes > re-open itunes > add music from original folder > plug in iphone > select songs > press sync > unplug iphone using eject button onscreen > checked phone .... still nothing in music folder on phone. On itunes the "On this iphone" tab the songs remain there but greyed out.

  • IPhone 4S doesnt show charge symbol and charges very slowly on brand new MacBook Pro. Not recognised by iTunes. Charges fine on Asus laptop. iPod charges fine on Macbook Pro...

    Hi!
I'm trying to fix a problem I'm having with my iPhone 4S and MacBook Pro.
I did manage to connect it initially and set it up with XCode as well as iTunes.
Today I have spent two hours trying to connect it to my MacBook Pro and I have so far found the following...
iPod 2G - charges from MacBook Pro, Wall Charger, Asus Laptop (works with both my Apple USB cables)
iPhone 4S - doesnt charge from MacBook Pro, but does from Wall Charger and Asus Laptop
                      - Asus Laptop running Linux Mint recognises the iPhone as a device with 'lsusb' and you can browse photos etc
                      - MacBook Pro doesn't recognise the iPhone as a device with the 'systemprofiler' equivalent of lsusb
                      - Interestingly, despite the charging icon not showing, the iPhone either maintains charge or very, very slowly charges
when connected to the MacBook Pro.
Any ideas as to what might be wrong? I've tried both the USB ports on the MacBook Pro and no difference. I've tried the 6 ports
on my old Asus laptop and they all work fine!
    Thanks for your help!

OK.. Went to the Apple Store - they could either book an appointment with a Genius.. or send the phone for
testing and repair. Found out I have a 2 year warranty on it so have a year left.
My research has led me to assume that the USB 2.0 function of my iPhone was faulty from the day I got it (it kept disconnecting the reconnecting but transferred data fast), but soon stopped doing that and ran at about 1MB/s - USB 1.1 speed - and has done this ever since.
The MacBook Pro somehow is trying to use the USB2.0 function and is not letting the phone fall back to USB 1.1.
To test my theory I found an old USB 1.1 hub... plugged it into the MacBook Pro... then plugged the iPhone
into that. Job done. Charging fine, recognised every single time I connect, and only took a few secs to send over my XCode app to the phone and runs fine! I guess this works as the hub forces the iPhone and MacBook both to USB1.1 mode which then works fine! Will just use it like this for a few months then send it in at an opportune moment (want to get some apps out before I lose my device for repair for a while!)
I will in the next week or so test my iPhone on my friend's MacBook Pro (we bought them the same day but I didn't get the Retina cos I like to be able to upgrade RAM, Hard Drive, and replace battery when it wears out). I will also test their iPhones on my MacBook Pro to see whether it really is the phone or the MacBook!
PS I will get WiFi Sync running since transferring 60GB of data over USB1.1 won't be fun... will do a full factory reset on the phone just in case there is an issue there - will post results of this too!

  • I just bought an Ipod Nano for my husband from a friend. We cannot figure how to add songs. I have an Ipod Touch and everything I pull up on Itunes is dealing with mine...I can't do anything with his Nano. What are we doing wrong?

I purchased an Ipod Nano from someone yesterday. How do I register it in my name and unregister the previous owner. I have a 4th gen Ipod touch and was told I could add songs from my library to the nano but we can't seem to do anything with it. HELP please!!

Connect it to your computer and restore it as a new device. Then chose what music you want to sync with it and do so just like your Touch does.

  • How can i add songs to a family members ipod without erasing existing songs

How can i add songs to a family members ipod without erasing her existing song list.

For future reference, since I came here for the same reason, I'd like to add to the solution.  The link was not complete in explaining how to, but then again I'll just trying to attempt to fill in the gap.
After opening iTunes, on the upper left hand side is a small icon with an arrow pointing down. Click on the arrow and a menu pops out.  Click on "Show Menu Bar."  On the new bar(Older iTunes File, Edit, View, Controls, etc. bar at the top).  Click on View and then Show Side Bar.  There you can just click and drag new songs into your iDevice without any problems... hopefully...
Seriously, this helped me, so if Apple finds a way to not allow me to do this simple task of adding purchased songs into my idevices from another computer, I'll have to resort to other means.
The one idevice that's having trouble with is my iShuffle(2nd).

  • How do I add songs to my 'on the go' list on my ipod classic?

How do I add songs to my 'on the go' list on my ipod classic?

Find the song you want to add, but when you click on it with the Select button, hold the click until it blinks a couple times. That will add the song to that playlist. I hope this helps! :-)

  • How do I add songs from my iPod to my iTunes

How do I add songs from my iPod to my iTunes??

Within Windows' folder options, select the option to view all hidden and system files. Then access your iPod through My Computer. Go into the transulcent iPod "ipod_control" folder. There's a folder in there called 'Music'. All your songs are in the several folders within this folder.
Sadly they're all renamed by iTunes, but all artist, album and song name information is retained within the files. You can simple copy the files from this folder onto your hard drive and add them into iTunes as normal.

  • Can not add songs to ipod

I have a 30 gig Ipod video, and have been manually dragging songs from my library to put on it. Recently, I have not been able to add songs. When I drag songs to it, nothing happens. No error message, nothing. Also, when I try to play songs on my computer from my Ipod, I get the exclamation point to the left of song name. The songs and videos already on the Ipod play fine when not connected to the computer. I would like to avoid having to restore if all possible.

    simple question
(i'm sure that you have tried this) but is the ipod full (space wise) do you have any extra space on your ipod.
