  • Very Strange and nasty iTunes (not iPod) Album Art Problem

    Hi,
I have the latest version of iTunes for Windows and I have never noticed this before on a previous version, but when I try to add album art to most (over 90%) of songs, the addition won't stay if I select another song.
Even worse, if I try to add art while the song is playing, not only will the addition dissappear, the song corrupts in the process. It's as if the jpeg file is inserted into the audio data itself, as the song will grow by a number of seconds (the growth consists of skips and repeats.)
I'm using iTunes with Windows Media Center. I have iTunes maintain my music folder, while Media Player / MCE monitors nothing. I also have a Media Center Extender setup (an Xbox360) that accesses my music as well (through the media player / MCE database.)
None of my music files are tagged as read-only. I have a suspicion that the cause of the problem may be along similar lines (file permissions, access, etc.) but nothing I've
tried works (including resetting all file permissions.)
In addition, none of the iTunes Art Importers work. In using the most popular one (iTunes Art Importer,) the program crashes to a .NET/CLR debugger when I try to import art. Looking at the stack trace, it appears as if the error concerns DLL access.
Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated, as this is a pretty horrible bug (as it has ruined several songs.)
    Thanks,

Use the SHIFT-Launch iTunes method to get iTunes waiting for a library. Stick the iPod in disk mode and connect to the computer. Browse *My Computer* and right-click on the drive for the iPod, click Properties, then click Tools. Under Error-checking, click *Check Now*. Under Check disk options, select *Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors* (Optional - takes ages but a good idea if you've reason to suspect physical damage). Click Start. Mac users should run *Disk Utility / Repair Disk* for the equivalent process. This should find and correct any errors in the logical & physical structures of your iPod's hard drive which may be causing the problem. When the process is complete disconnect the iPod and then reset it (hold Menu+Select ). Cancel the waiting iTunes dialog and then try to connect in the normal way.
If that still doesn't work you could try Erase your iPod - The Super Fix for most iPod Problems. Basically a low level format of the iPod’s hard drive to get around whatever problems are stopping iTunes from working with it.
Have you tried connecting the iPod to another computer to see if the issues is focused on the iPod or iTunes?

  • Album Art Problems Galore

So basically, I started having album art problems recently where the album art would appear correctly in my iTunes, but shows up on my iPod as a black square.
I was told to turn off album art and turn it back on, which helped, but then some of my album art just stopped showing up altogether (even though it's still visible in iTunes).
So I'm wondering what options I have? I was thinking about just completely wiping off all the album art and re-applying it; but #1, I don't know what the easiest way to wipe them off would be; #2, I don't know if re-doing all my album art will even fix the problem. With my luck, it'd have the same issue after I redid all my album art >.<

Not sure if this will be of any help but, if you're willing...
In itunes, convert the problem songs/albums' ID3 Tags to v2.3, even if they're already v2.3. (Right Click on song(s), on the menu that appears, "Convert ID3 Tags")
Then uncheck "Display Album Artwork on ipod", sync ipod. Then re-enable the "Display Album Artwork on ipod" again and sync it again.
Another possibility is that the artwork for those songs is, somehow, unpalatable with the ipod. If so, just get artwork from another source (amazon, wiki, etc.) on one or two songs (just to see if it works) and sync, see if it works then.
Don't know if these will work though. Good luck and keep us informed.

  • Ipod video album art problems

Hi i've just got a new 30Gb ipod video and synced it with a g4 powerbook. Everything worked fine until i tried to turn it on and listen to music. All songs without album art work fine but the ones with (which is about 2/3 of them) seem to be causing porblems. When i start a playlist the first track doesn't play, instead he ipod tries to load the album art. As soon as the album art appears, it skips onto the next track without playing anything at all, very frustrating! when eventually a song does start playing there is a 2 second silence after the song's started while it tries to load album art again. I thought maybe it was the art itself but songs bought from itunes with the official apple artwork appear to be worse if anything!?! anyone had any similar problems/solutions?
any help would be much apperciated

I'm having a problem with this as well. I bought a 2G iPod Touch for my gf and after putting in some of the albums from my library, certain albums are not showing the correct album. For instance, as I put in Nelly Furtado's album, it would end up showing Ne-Yo's album cover. I checked in iTunes to make sure the correct album was in there which it was. Is this some kind of bug?

  • Still having ipod album art work problems

My IPOD SHOWS NO ALBUM ARTWORK! I don't know why. I have the checkbox under itunes selected "display album artwork on IPOD" I contacted itunes support and they never help with anything. they are completely worthless. They directed me back here, to the forums, for help. They have no answers. I've tried nearly everthing. I've restored my ipod many times over. I've also tried deselecting that checkbox under itunes then resyncing my ipod. And its still a no go. I think that I'm missing some files on my ipod that enables my ipod to show the album artwork. Can anyone help me out?

I had the same problem all you have to do is connect your ipod then click the options for your ipod then un tick the show album art then update your ipod, disconnect it then re connect it and click the options again then tick the album artwork box unpdate again and viola everything works smooth from then on mine has been perfect since i did it last week

  • Problem with ipod album art

hello. I am new to this forum, but i have a quick question that hopefully, someone might be able to answer
i am currently running the color display ipod (not video.) my problem is that when i put music on to it from itunes, the songs with album art cannot be read by the pod. i did not know this when i added all the art, or else i would have avoided doing so.
i was wondering if it is possible to delete the art so i can transfer the songs to the ipod. it seems simple enough, but my attempts were futile.
anyone know how to remove the art from the itunes files?

    yeah.
you right click-get info-artwork and then click on the picture you want to delete as the delete button will be greyed out until you click on the artwork. When you click on the artwork the button then becomes functional.
    good luck

  • Ipod Touch album art problems

After I updated to the latest firmware 2.1 my album art started to lag as I scrolled through the album art. Before it was nice and smooth but whenever I scroll through the albums some albums appear to be missing but appear after I select them. At first I thought it was because i had to much music but i still noticed after all my music was deleted and only a few albums were present. How do I fix this? I tried reinstalling the firmware and restoring my itouch but nothing has changed.

  • IPod library album art problems

So I just synced my iPad, and go to open my music library, and find that some of the album art has become... larger than normal, and are obscuring the view of everything else. Any help?

  • Album Art Problem (shows up fine everywhere with exception of one section)

My album art is not showing up properly on my iPod touch.
It shows up fine everywhere on my iTouch (including artists, cover flow, now playing etc.) with the exception of this section:
It's the same for every single artist, every single album, but only for this screen. All the other sections on my iTouch show the album art fine.
    Any ideas?
(I'm running the latest OS if that helps, 4.3.3)

SAME problem here. Very frustrating as I feel I'm playing 'Whack a Mole'... I update the artwork (which I know is already correct as per previous settings and iTunes) on the problem album(s) and then they are correct on the iPhone, but then a different album(s) exhibit the problem.
I've even cleared the downloaded artwork and saved proper JPG files to the albums(s) and it still does not clear up all the issues.
ALSO, I'm not positive on this, but quite sure the only album(s) experiencing this problem are the ones added to the iPhone since the iTunes/iPhone OS update.

  • Ipod album cover problem "An unknown error occurred (-50)

I recently spent a few hours going through amazon and google image search finding album covers to each of my mp3s no purchased through the Itunes store. After I finally got all of them, I went into Itunes options and clicked "display album art" I recieved the error
"The Ipod William Tell cannot be updated. An unknown error occurred (-50)"
I have unchecked display album art, let it delete whatever was on there, and rechecked it and have recieved the same error.

    Hi,
I had the same problem and after a search in google i found this:
    Solution1
If you are getting the same error I was getting, then the solutions is a quite tedious one. You need to go through your entire library starting at the top.
First make sure the ablum art box in the bottom left of iTunes is set to "selected song" and not "now playing". Now highlight the first song at the top and use the down arrow and look at the album art for each song. I have 4000 songs in my library and I found maybe 3 or 4 album art glitches.
The glitches are those songs that show a blank white box for the album art. Don't mistake this for those songs that just have no art attached. These say "Drag album art here." When you find those few white boxes, simply right click the song and go to "get info" and then the artwork tab. Click the white blank and delete it. That's it.
After you do this you should be able to add artwork to your iPod without the error message. I hope this helps you out. -CK
    Solution2
I have managed to fix this error. I have Windows 2000, but I think it should be OK for any Windows version.
    1. Make sure iTunes is closed.
    2. Move My Documents/My Music/iTunes/iTunes* (2 files, *.itl, and *.xml) to Desktop
    3. Start up iTunes, it will create the two files above.
    4. In iTunes: File :: Import...
    5. Select .xml instead of text.
    6. Select the iTunes Music Library.xml
    ITunes stopped complaining.
    Solution3
I had this error as well. Here's how I fixed it.
Apple itunes uses internet explorer (windows version) and therefore uses IE's proxy settings.
If you're behind a proxy you can change your settings to directly connect and then that may fix the problem. (I was using proximitron to filter ads, which went to my local fastnet web accellerator (dial up decompressor) which linked to a remote dialup comrpessor which actually got the internet sites).
Turning that off in IE's settigns (Tools, Options, Connections, Settings, uncheck use proxy) worked for me.
    Solution2 worked fine for me

  • ****FIX **** update to 7.0 - Album Art problem- Disable/ReEnable failed

I have a 30gb videopod and updated to version 7. I too was experiencing problems with some tracks not showing recently added album art.
I tried disabling and re-enabling album art on both my powerbook and xp computer and which lead to no album art was showing at all. Disabled and re-enabled numerous times and couldn't get any album art to show.
In Windows, I resolved my issue by removing version 7.0 and installing back version 6.05. Fired up 6.05, Disabled and re-enabled album art and all my album art was back on my ipod. *Sigh of relief of not restoring ipod"
**if you get this message after re-installing an older of iTunes:
"The file iTune Library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes"
    Try this:

    - create a folder "Backup"
    - move iTunes Music Library.xml and iTunes Library into folder Backup
    - Run iTunes
    - Go menu File > Import > iTunes Music Library.xml
    - Wait while the files are imported.
    for Windows users
    - Go to My Documents > My Music > iTunes
    - Move the files iTunes Music Library.xml and iTunes Music Library.itl to the Desktop
    - Run iTunes
    - Go menu File > Import > select the iTunes Music Library from your desktop
    - Wait while the files are imported.
    Hope this helps!

marx23 - your tip worked great!! I re-installed iTunes 6.0.5 with the desktop trick. Unchecked, checked, and finally - album art is back up and running on my iPod.
When I updated to iTunes 7.0 I lost album art display on 7000 songs that probably took me 100+ hours to associate. After I got iTunes 7.0 I spent over 3 hours surfing the discussion boards and Apple's tips and trying different things. All the tricks with the check box, uncheck box, eject, repeat while using iTunes 7.0 didn't work. Finally I went back to iTunes 6.0.5.
Thank you so much for the tip!
Hope everybody else finds your post, it's great!!!!!

  • ITunes / iPod Album art wierdness

I just got an iPod nano so I wanted to try and get the album art to display on the iPod when playing the songs. I transferred a whole bunch of my to the iPod before I realized who how do this.
So, I would select the iPod (not iTunes) library, select the album, go to a site with album art work, drag the art work to the art work section, it would update, then move on to the next. I did this for every album on the iPod. After that I did the same thing, except to the music in my iTunes library.
When I plug in my iPod and select an album, the album art shows up no problem in the iTunes interface..
When I use my iPod, only the albums where I added the alb um art to iTunes show up.
I do not have auto sync, or auto fill, or any of that stuff enabled.
What I'm wondering, can you not attach artwork to files already on the iPod, and if so, do I have to delete all the audio on my iPod, update all the album art in iTunes and transfer again? If so that's 1. a bummer and 2. very un-Apple.
Let me know if you've seen this before or can help.
    Thanks,
    Adam

If your iPod is set to update automatically then try this:
    iTunes 6
    1. Connect your iPod
    2. Disable "Show Album art" in iTunes>Edit>Preferences>iPod.
    3. Syncronise the iPod with iTunes. (Disconnecting and then reconnecting your iPod will do the trick)
    4. Re-enable "Show Album Art" in iTunes>Edit>Preferences>iPod.
    5. Syncronise the iPod again.
    iTunes 7
If your iPod is set to update automatically then try this:
    1. Connect your iPod
    2. Disable "Display album artwork" in iPod>Music tab and click Apply.
    3. Syncronise the iPod with iTunes.
    4. Re-enable "Display album artwork" in iPod>Music tab and click Apply.
    5. Syncronise the iPod again.

  • Displaying ipod album art in itunes

I have a question about the iPod's display of album art in iTunes when it is plugged into my computer. I had been getting really frustrated for the better part of the evening after adding a bunch of album art to my music, updating it on the iPod (I do manual update so I dragged the songs onto the iPod after adding the art), and then clicking on them in the iPod's library in iTunes only to see that there was no album art there. What gives?
However, I realized that I was getting annoyed for no reason when I checked it out in the iPod itself, after I disconnected it. All of the album art is there.
So here is the strange behavior I have observed this evening: if I had to go out on the internet and find cover art myself, and add it manually to the files in iTunes, it displays in the iPod's library in iTunes. If iTunes helpfully went out and found the cover art for me automatically, it does NOT display in the iPod library in iTunes (although it is actually there when you go to play the music on the disconnected iPod). I went through the iPod's library in iTunes and this is consistently what is happening.
Obviously this isn't a life-or-death kind of situation, but I was wondering if anyone else has noticed this behavior or knows why this happening. For what it's worth, my entire iTunes library is on an external hard drive, and all of my music is on there in the same place. Do you think iTunes is storing the art in separate places depending on whether I added it or it found it on its own? Would this even matter? I am very curious about this. Thanks for any insight anyone has for me.

when i play the music on the iPod the albums show up
no problem... but when the iPod is connected to
iTunes, and i'm browsing my ipod via itunes, only
    some album art shows up...
IE: beck guero, has album art in the itunes library,
it also has the art on the ipod if i play it with the
ipod disconnected from my mac. it DOES NOT show album
art when connected to itunes and view the ipod within
    itunes...
whats the deal? some albums are just fine, but the
vast majority of them dont display the art while in
itunes... again, if i disconnect the ipod and view
them on the ipod, there is no problem all albums
    display.
    any help is appreciated.
Just so you know, you're not going crazy and you're not the only one that's seeing this. I'm seeing the same behavior with a 30GB 5G iPod and iTunes7 under Windows XP.

  • My iPod album art doesn't work anymore

Ever since I updated to the latest iPod software (about 2 months ago), every new album I have put into my iPod has scratchy album art (looks scrambeled, and blue). My old album art however (for songs put in before the update), still looks good, and any other uploaded photo looks fine. Anyone know the problem?
oh, and it's a 60GB Black iPod Video.

i had a similar problem, with the ipod pluged in got to ipod prefrences and un-check the show album art box and then check it agian it worked for mine. hope it will work for you as well.
