IPod All of Sudden Will Not Update Music

Have had my iPod since Christmas and everything has been working fine. Yesterday my iPod started decided it no longer wanted to work. Every time I plug it into my computer it makes this odd clicking sound and then my computer tell me to Update my iPod so the computer can read it. When I go to the Updater, the Updater freezes as soon as I open it. The iPod continues to make the strange clicking noises. I have tried reseting it, but the problem persists. Anyone have any clue what I should do here? It sounds as if the hard drive isn't turning over correctly.

Welcome to the Discussions Austin,
Well, it does sound like a HD issue, while you can try to reformat the HD in the iPod, considering you are under warranty I would take it into the Apple store (if convent). If the store is not close by post back and we might be able to help you out trying to see if the HD can be saved. If it is continuously clicking, I would just take/send it in under warranty.

  • My iPhone 4s iOS 7.0.4 will not update music or apps from iTunes 11.1.3.  this was true of my pc and the new MacPro.

My iphone 4s ios 7/0/4 will not update music or apps from itunes 11.1.3.  this was true with my pc since ios 7.0.3 even with update 7.0.4 and now continues with my new MacPro also runing itunes 11.1.3.   as most state in previous threads, syncs all non itunes related data with no issue and appears to work correctly on itunes data but then hangs on the last step of updating until it times out.  i have tried marking specific music to transfer, setting up new playlist, deleting some old playlist on phone but stopped short of restoring my phone back to new due to the amount of non itunes data that i will lose.  The itunes setup on the macpro was completely with the download of all music from a previous external backup and the creation of new playlist - on the first sync with existing phone it did ask to overwrite all phone itunes data with macpro itunes data which i did accept - no different result - no changes on phone.

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
If the problem continues, take the device to Apple for evaluation and possible replacement.

  • My ipod touch(3rd gen) will NOT update due to "The ipod software update server could not be contacted" Please help

I have quite literally tried everything. My ipod touch just will not update.

It will not, however, connect to the update server.

    Please help.

  • IPod Touch (4th gen) will not sync music after the latest iTunes update

I'm using iTunes on a PC with Windows 7 and after the latest update (iTunes 11.2.2), it will not sync with my iPod touch 4 (also updated to the latest possible version - iOS 6.1.6).
Before the update there was no problem with the sync. And this iPod has always been synced only with this computer, and this iTunes library.
After the iTunes update, several songs on my iPod were greyed out and unplayable (the library plays fine in iTunes).
Now, when I try to sync, iTunes goes through all the steps, saying it finished syncing, without any error message but there is no actual change on the iPod.
I've tried deleting all the music on the iPod, to resync the entire music library anew.
Again, iTunes went through all the steps, finished "syncing" and nothing - and, of course, all the music on my iPod is now missing.
When I check the "On this iPod" option in iTunes, the entire song list shows up there but appears greyed out and unplayable.
On the actual iPod device, there is absolutely nothing in the Music app - no songs, no playlists.
The iPod always shows "no data" in the Music app.
Sometimes iTunes shows that I have 18GB of music on the device, sometimes it shows 0GB ...at one point it showed "no space available". But it has plenty of space - 23.5 GB of available space out of 32GB.
To fix this I've tried the following:
    - automatic sync, manual sync, manually adding/deleting songs on the iPod, autofilling and replacing songs;
    - resetting my iPod by holding the (on/off and home buttons) and resetting through the "reset all settings" option on my iPod;
    - reset and restore from backup;
    - uninstalled and re-installed iTunes on my PC.
    - I've run the diagnostics tool in iTunes - all tests passed;
...plus various other suggested solutions I have found in the similar topics around here.
(I've checked and there are no restrictions to the songs, the computer is authorized, etc.)
Absolutely nothing works and it is very frustrating, as I usually only use the iPod for the music.
    Please help.

  • IPod touch 4th gen, will not sync music or movies but plays everything else. This has been since 2 updates ago. We have reset, restored and done everything told but no good has come of it. The identical 1 we have has no issues. It is now on 6.1.5.

This 16gb model number is ME179BT/A if that makes any difference. It still plays apps and games with ease but will not download media from either the computer or iTunes store. We have restored and reset the thing but it will not work.
This has been playing up since October. It started with it refusing to switch on/off or do anything so I rebooted it then restored it but it didn't download any media. We have tried several times since to fix the issue but it just won't work.
If anyone has any ideas please let me know as the uncertainty of this device is killing me. What has happened to Apple??? We have all had Apple devices for over a decade but suddenly the whole thing has gone mad, constant updates and need to buy newer devices...... I think Samsung may be the better option the way rhis is going? We were always happy to pay the premium for the assurance of quality but that is no longer the case!
Please let me know if there is anything to be done with this so called media player??
    Thank-you.

  • Help! iPod suddenly will not update or sync or even be recognised by my PC!

    Hi,
I've been reading all the topics - but I still need help!
I have a 3rd generation 20GB ipod that i've had for just over a year (just out of warranty!) and have never had a problem with it. Recently I needed to use it as a hard drive as well and enabled the disk space etc. I have 13GB music and pretty much filled the rest of it with windows media player files to transport them somewhere next week.
Plugged in my iPod to sync it with iTunes and was asked if i wanted to get the most recent iPod updater - i said no because my internet connection here is really slow and i was going to wait until i'm home from uni next week. So i said no - and then there were a few songs to add to the iPod but it must have tipped it over it's GB limit because a message appeared saying "iPod does not have enough disk space to update - would you like iTunes to choose you a selection of songs". I said no b/c i was going to just let it charge a bit off the PC and then next week when i moved the WMA files i knew there would be tons of free space. However today I decided to shift some of the WMA files off my iPod b/c i bought some new music and wanted it on my iPod, and when i plugged it in the following happened:
    - Computer made the usual da-dum sound when connected
    - iTunes did not recognise the iPod was connected and froze
    - The Safely Remove Hardware thing recognised the iPod was connected but could not remove it and froze when asked to
    - The iPod did not show up on 'My Computer' as it usually does (usually F Drive and says Leila's Ipod) only said F drive removable disk - but when i clicked on that it froze too.
Decided to download the latest iPod updater (10th jan i think) to see if that would fix it (I'm running iTunes 6 btw) and when I plug my iPod in the updater freezes too... sometimes it then says 'Cannot mount iPod' and sometimes nothing happens.
Have restarted iPod and PC several times (iPod fully charged) but nothing works.
iPod still works fine despite having to be disconnected when it said 'do not disconnect' because i had no other way of removing it, i just can't update/sync it
Have looked at all iTunes tutorials and can't even do the restore thing they suggest (which i really would rather not do anyway b/c it would lose my WMA files) b/c the updater can't stop freezing.
Someone told me that perhaps i've overloaded it and there's no room for the disk to do buffering etc (?) - is there any way to fix this?
    Sorry for long post
    Would really appreciate advice!
    Thanks

I read your post and I thought it was me. I have the exact same problem and I am very frustrated here. After reading all of negative feedback about the latest updater, I think Apple needs to step up to the plate and do something to fix these issues.
My son's iPOD has stopped working since this latest updater as well.

  • IPod Touch 3rd generation will not sync music

My 3rd generation 32GB iPod Touch won't sync music. It will not even be able to start to sync. A message "The iPod "Cindy's iPod" could not be synced because the sync session failed to start." It was given to me in August 2010 as a gift, and it was bought from Costco in America. The iPod has been updated to IOS5. I am using a Windows 7 laptop, and this is the very same laptop I have been using to sync the same iPod for the past year and a few months. The last time I was able to sync it was February 26th, 2012.
When I drag music to onto iTunes to sync it with the iPod, it will not sync, and the song is whited out and has the syncing symbol to the left of it (but not swirling).
Everytime I unplug and plug the iPod back in to sync it, the songs I tried to sync from before are still white out, and they are still there even after I delete them (and unplug and replug the iPod back).
I have tried restarting the laptop, reinstalling iTunes, and turning off and on my iPod.
When I try to restore the iPod, iTunes won't let me.
Normally, if this happens, I am able to permanently delete the none syncing song from the iPod music library, and resync it by dragging the file from the laptop and putting it into iTunes. I have tried over 10 times, but the same problems happen each time.
Here is a  screenshot of what I am talking about.

Thank you for your time, and I hope to hear from you soon.

If you can see the iTunes Media folder inside your Music folder in your computer, put all your songs their and try resyncing everything in your iTunes. It should be able to work as that is what I did to this type of problem before. Hope it helps.

  • Please Help Me. iPod Touch 5th generation will not download music from itunes

My son has an IPod touch 5th generation that he got for Christmas (3 months old :(!  All of a sudden if he is on iTunes and buys a song it won't download. It will say its already been purchased but its not in downloads.  I have soft reset and now finally did the erase all data and settings.  When it started up and i signed into icloud everything started downloading but the music.  If I go into the iTunes app and hit purchased music I can see all the music but when I go to hit specific artists it sits and loads (circle is circling) and won't show me the individual song titles.  I'm sick to my stomach that the iPod is not fixable because I can't afford to buy my son a new one and I haven't finished paying this one off.  Can anyone help me please?   I can add music from iTunes on my computer directly to the iPod when plugged in. So I am assuming this means something is wrong with iPod.    Any help will be appreciated.  Thank you.

First, don't obsess over it.  If, in fact, there is something wrong with the iPod, it's still in warranty.  Now, I don't know for certain what will fix this for you but here are some suggestions, beginning with one that's quick and easy.
First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

  • My iphone5 will not update music playlists

Dont know what is going on. But my phone will not sync playlists from iTunes to my iphone5. I check the the box on what playlist to add, press sync and nothing.

I only could solve the problem -after reading a number of postings and discussions.....- by
having made sure to have the latest backup on my MacBook
than reseting the iPhone 5c to original status
rebuilding the iPhone by its backup
syncing everything back on my iPhone
Now it works out and even the iTunes Radio was shown up which never was shwn before under "Music".
And all (!!) playlists (intelligent and hand-made) are on the iPhone.
Good luck, take you some time to do that!!

Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead, they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.

  • My iPod Touch 2nd Gen will not update.

iTunes tells me that it is up to date using iOS 4.2.1, but I want to update to iOS 5. How do I update my iPod Touch? Is my iPod no longer compatible with Apple? Every time I check for updates, iTunes tells me that my iPod has no further updates. I have made sure that my MacBook is up to date with all of the latest Apple software. Does anyone know the problem?

That's annoying...So, apple makes new devices and operating systems for them and if your device is no longer compatible, you have to spend another 200 dollars on something that will become obsolete in a year...I have a computer that has been keeping up with current technology for 8 years. It's still compatible with all of it's software and all of the upates. If Apple can't make universal updates, I consider that a failing.
