Ipod always syncs entire music library

Hope someone can help me with my iPod Classic.
It seems no matter which options I select (manually manage music checked or unchecked, sync only selected songs and playlists checked/unchecked), I always end up with my entire library on my iPod.
I am trying to leave a couple of genres of music off the iPod for daily use - holiday music and children's music.  They are jarring when I have it set to shuffle.  But for some reason, even with these genres unchecked in the music tab, they always end up on my iPod.
Any clues as to what I am doing wrong?

Update:  I think it may be syncing through one of my playlists.  I am going to check this once I get back to my home computer, but still if anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears.

Right click and select Get Info. Look under File in iTunes 12

  • Bought a Brand New iPod touch, my entire music library WILL NOT SYNC (stuck on waiting for changes)

I just bought a new ipod touch, and I'm really struggling to not throw this thing against the wall.
My music won't sync. Its stuck on "Waiting for Changes to be applied"
Im not trying to sync anything else, no video, pictures, apps, anything. Just music. My old iPod touch syncs just fine. I can't restore it, because the restore takes it back to when I was setting the ipod up. I factory reset my ipod many times. I've tried manually syncing songs individually but it hangs on the same spot.
My mac is up to date, my ipod is up to date, my itunes is up to date. What the **** can I do?

I have been able to get SOME songs on by doing artist one by one. I also took off all album art. I have only 10 songs or so that I have bought so this is all my own stuff. I just bought a refurbished ipod touch from the apple store. It seems weird to me that it is not all ipods, just some and with the searching I have done, it was mainly Sept to Nov of last year there was issues.... I feel like returning my ipod and hoping I get one with no issues.

  • Unable to sync 'entire' music library to iPhone 4s

I am using the latest version of iTunes, but when I sync my iPhone with iTunes no music actually downloads.
I have a sizeable music library already loaded onto my iPhone (before attempting to sync), this music downloaded a while ago using a previous version of iTunes.
On synchronising now (using the latest version of iTunes), I expected that all recent additions to my iTunes library on my PC would automatically download to the existing music folder on my iPhone - adding to the exisitng music data base.
    Some additional information....
When I access the music application on my phone, and I select the 'More' tab in the bottom right hand corner of the home screen, the next screen that pops-up displays an icon labelled "Shared" (with a picture of a house with a music note at the centre). If I select this tab two music libraries appear (1) the music that is in existence on my phone and (2) the entire library on my pc.
I can selectively play any music track out of these respective libraries from my iPhone on any Airplay ready device in my home, no problem. But of course when I leave my home the 'shared' library is no longer available.
The question therefore is:- how do I get the "shared" library on my PC to permanently download to my iPhone when I sync my iPhone with iTunes?
All advice would be most welcome.

I am experiencing the same issue with itunes 11.2.2 and ios 7 on my iphone 4s, except that my library will not load at all on my iphone. I have no problems with my iPad (1st gen, iOS5) or Apple TV (2nd gen).

Ok, I had a glitch, forced to restart, and lost my train of thought.
Reinstalling iTunes should fix the major issue that might have gone wrong, perhaps your explaination points will disappear and everything will be peachy again.
But if they don't, you can open the XML file in iTunes Folder using a Text edit program to see what the common pathname is to the iTunes Music folder or where your content is located.
If you moved the itunes folder, it needs to go back.
I can't  download iTunes to my Vista virtual machine to test it out right now because iTunes is down, so I can't verify the pathname, perhaps your issue and the iTunes being down are related somehow?
You don't want to import all your music again, but it's a option, but you lose all your playlists, that's what I'm trying to recover.
If oyu don't have a whole lot of playlists, then simply select all the explaimation point music and delete, select File from the menu and import your itunes folder again.

  • I am trying to sync a playlist to my Nano,  but when I click on the Music tab at the top, it will not allow me to select the option Selected Playlist, Artists, etc.  I cannot un-check the Entire Music library option and check the Selected Artist - on

I am trying to sync a playlist to my Nano,  but when I click on the Music tab at the top,
it will not allow me to select the option Selected Playlist, Artists, etc.  I cannot un-check the Entire Music library
option and check the Selected Artist … one.
I have changed the Sync option to Manually sync, but that does not help.
How can I change this to the second option?
    Thanks.

There is a checkbox above those two options for how to sync.  It says Sync Music; it enables automatic syncing.  That box needs to be checked before you can select from the two options for how automatic syncing is performed.
NOTE:  If the iPod is current set up to Manually manage music [and videos], checking that Sync Music box replaces its current content with content from your iTunes library, based on how automatic syncing is set up on that screen.
So, if your goal is to add ONE playlist to an iPod that is managed manually, you do not want to do this because iTunes will erase the iPod's current content and replace it with just that ONE selected playlist (and whatever else you select on that Music settings screen).
Instead, if the iPod currently uses the manual setting, you need to add playlists manually to the iPod (not use the automatic syncing setting).  Please post back with more details about your situation.

    Welcome to the Support Communities!
It sounds like you might have automatic syncing turned on for this device?  Hopefully this article will help:

  • Why would iTunes 9.2.1.5 automatically DELETE my iPod's entire music library???

    Hi everyone,
I have an iPod Classic running software ver 1.3.  I keep (kept) my entire music library on the iPod rather than on my laptop.  I've used the iPod this way for nearly 5 years now.  This morning I connected the iPod to my Windows Vista laptop, running iTunes 9.2.1.5, which I do almost every day.
Today was unusual.  When iTunes started up, it told me it was "syncing your iPod," then DELETED everything in my iPod's music library which wasn't purchased on the iTunes website.  Because I only bought a handful of songs from iTunes, this reduced my music library from 25 Gigs to a little less than 15 Megs.  Then iTunes crashed.
Why would iTunes DO this???  I feel like I've been mugged.  That library took years to collect and organize and I don't have access to a lot of the original sources.  The worst part of it all is I had no inkling nor warning that anything was amiss until it was all too late.  And why would iTunes spare only what I'd purchased from the iTunes store???  Is this some sick way of ensuring Apple is the sole gateway to our music access?

It sounds like your iPod did an automatic sync. Whether or not you had it set up that way or not I'm not sure. Anyway, when your iPod automatically syncs it makes sure your iPod MATCHES your iTunes library. If you have no songs in your library (because "I keep (kept) my entire music library on the iPod rather than on my laptop") then it will delete all the songs on the iPod to match the iTunes library. The only exception is that it will copy any iTunes purchased songs from your iPod back to your computer as a way of safe-keeping your iTunes purchased songs.
As a side note, there are way too many people on this forum that don't keep their library on their computer (25 Gigs doesn't take up that much room) or at least store it on an external hard drive (they're cheap). Too many things can happen to your iPod such as; theft, damage, malfunction, or your experience that not keeping a back-up copy is risking losing a "library that took years to collect and organize". I know that I have all the CDs that make up my 31,000 song library that are all on my iPod Classic but I still keep them on my computer AND my backup hard drive. I know if I lost my iPod I really wouldn't want to rip all those CDs again, not to mention hunting down missing artwork.

  • I am trying to sync my iphone with itunes music and have selected 'entire music library', which shows a large amount of potential music data to be transferred.  Trouble is after sync, the bar shrinks back to just the content of one particular Playlist!?

Please can anyone help?  I am trying to sync my iphone music with itunes, but am finding that as soon as the sync is complete the data bar shrinks back from almost full (my entire music library) to just 100 songs, which happen to be the contents of one playlist I have.  i cannot seem to change the music content on my phone no matter what?  PS when I hit sync the capacity bar fills up, but when I apply, it drops back to just those songs I already mentioned :- (

thank you randers4, unfortunately these restrictions aren't to blame.  Now I realise the problem - I tried to play some of the music and found out that the source data wasn't attached.  The computer was rebuilt and backed up - and it seems perhaps hasn't all been copied back.  I am currently attempting to copy accross some itunes files from my backup drive.  Bit confused, too many itunes files of different types but fingers crossed getting closer to the solution......?

How can I transfer music from my iPhone to my iPad.?
I no longer have a PC. Mine died and cannot be restored. It had iTunes with my entire music library on it.

If you are running an OS of 5.0 or higher, you should be able to use the iCloud to sync both devices together & share music.
