Or you could take it into an Apple store and have them take a look at your iPod.

30G Video IPod and Windows Vista - Help!
I just recently bought a new computer equipped with Windows Vista. I have a 12" G4 iBook that was my main computer from which I ran my 30G Video iPod, and now I am wanting to sync my iPod with my new Windows computer, and this will be the only system I use with my iPod.
I realize there are many problems with compatibility of iTunes/iPods with Windows Vista.
My question is, barring the problems with iTunes, I downloaded the latest iTunes anyways and tried to use Yamipod to bring my 1600+ songs onto my computer from my iPod by bypassing iTunes. Problem is, my computer doesn't even recognize the iPod at all. iTunes does, but when I cancel the box asking me to reformat my iPod to Windows format and try to use Yamipod, Yamipod doesn't even recognize an iPod existing. I thought maybe it was just the program, so I tried about 4 others, but nothing. I also used the cd that came with my iPod and put the drivers onto this computer, but the actual computer still doesn't even recognize it plugged in.
Any ideas? Also, because a lot of my songs are in m4a format, how will that work if I am able to put them on this computer? Will I have to convert them all to mp3?
Thank you for any help you can give. And given that Vista has been available in Release
candidate version for ages and that the release date
has been known for ages, shouldn't apple have made
the effort to make itunes compatible with Vista?
After all, the vast majority of itunes users live in
Windows land.
perhaps you should familiarise yourself with the common usage and implications of the symbol string
but as you clearly aren't familiar with it, if i took your question seriously, which i don't, then the answer is no...
your argument is that being first and being in the majority rules
that'll be apple then won't it
i) i can't be bothered to check the itunes release date, certainly it was out in 2001, which is several years before microsoft even figured out what to call the os formerly known as longhorn, let alone finished sawing off the pieces it couldn't make work
ii) the majority of people with portable music players use ipod/itunes, so it is for microsoft to conform with the majority and not make changes that impair the products used by the majority
so, by your own argument, it is microsoft's responsibility to maintain compatibility -
Ipods and airports! help?
Hi, Can anyone help? Whilst going thro airport and sitting in departures lounge when I switched on my ipod 40gb all my 1245 tracks had vanished! I reset it but the memory still came back as empty!! I have just returned home and switched on the ipod and wow there all back!! why did this happen, will it happen again and is there a fault with it? ( this is my second one and my warranty has just run out!!) thanks
hey bored as a **** excuse my lang. the ipod sometimes just just over heats and crashes, i don't know why it deleted all your songs but it happend to me before. not fun and i had a lot more songs then you. not sure if this is helping you? If all the songs on the ipod is gone already you should restore the ipod by going to this web site http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/ and just download the latest software, its free and simple. I doubt this will happend to you again just don't drop your ipod or leave it on 24/7

Ipod and Outlook Calendar (help needed)
Does anybody know how could I add the location field (from calendar event's details) in the syncronising data going to Ipod ?
Many thanx. The iPod calendar doesn't display the location field although it is sync'd. You need to put your location information into the description field.
I wrote a Perl script that can be used to edit the calendar files on the iPod and move the location into description automatically, and it is available on my website <http://its.usc.edu/~bbellina/downloads>, however you would need to have Perl installed on your Windows PC to use it. It should be compatible with Outlook vcs files. You would use it after you sync your calendars.

Big problems with Firewire iPod and camcorder - please help!
Hi all,
I don't know where else to turn with this problem. I think I've damaged my Firewire kit.
I have an iPod 4G 20GB and a Canon MV901 MiniDV Camcorder. I used them both over Firewire with my Pismo without difficulty, but I then tried video editing on my Windows machine with a firewire PCI card. Scrabbling around the back of my computer, I think I somehow managed to get the firewire cable to the camcorder in the socket upside down, reversing the power and data conncectors. Nothing really happened, but the camcorder stopped showing up. I tried it a good few times, then tried my iPod. By some bizarre coincidence, I think I managed to plug the iPod in the same way. Now, my iPod doesn't work on either the Windows machine or the Pismo over firewire, but does over USB2.0 on my Windows machine.
I measured the power going through the Firewire power pins as around 13.5 volts on my Pismo and the card, but the card also has an auxiliary power connector. This was disconnected when I tested it, but was connected when the iPod and camcorder were.
The thing I would like to know is whether a voltage spike of this size could fry the firewire controllers on both devices. The iPod's diagnostic mode detects that firewire is connected, but will not show up. Strangely, it still charges over firewire from either machine. Have I permanately damaged the firewire controllers?
Thanks in advance,
Rob JohnsonRob,
If you mistakenly inserted the FireWire connector twisted 180 degrees, the power lines can be directly connected to the data lines and can result in a fried PHY (connects the port to the FireWire bridge) or the FireWire bridge itself.
You can take a look at the voltage specs for FireWire ports and see that your voltage readings are well withing specs:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58207
I am not sure where you go from here. You could try a known-good FireWire device connected to your Pismo and see if it works. If not, the data-side of the FW port may have failed. I don't know about testing the iPod or camcorder.
A possible cheap fix for the Pismo FireWire is a FireWire PC card; if running 10.x, it will just be a plug & play affair. However, unlike built-in FireWire ports, FireWire PC cards supply very little bus power. Your camcorder will work since it has it owns power supply (assuming there is no hardware failure) and but am unsure about the iPod. The iPod will not charge, of course, but it may still work in data transfers. There are a few FireWire PC cards that also have their own power supply. -
2 iPods and 1 iMac = HELP!
So any tips on using multiple iPods on a single Mac with multi user accounts.
We have a 20in Intel iMac. It's setup so each person in the family had their own user.
Until now I was the only one with an iPod and pretty much the only one that used iTunes. I have a 5G 30gig pod.
Well we just bought my daughter her own shuffle. 2G 1 gig bright pink. (she does not know about it yet, its for her birthday in another week)
I figured that I would plug it in and put some music on it so she was ready to go when she unwraps it. I did this all on my user account.
I then figured I had better plug it in with her user logged in.
The second I opened iTunes in her user and hooked up the shuffle it told me that the iPod could only be used with one iTunes account and asked if I wanted to erase it and start over.
Whats odd though is that it detected my 5G iPod no problem and didn't give me a single error, I could access all the songs and video's on it.
So what the scoop? Is this a shuffle only issue or something bigger that i am missing.
Second part of the question - is there a way to lock her user from accessing my iPod when its connected (I always have it docked - Belkin iPod/USB hub - when I'm not using it) and I am not logged in.
My wife liked the shuffle so much that I will be getting her one soon as well, so then it will be 3 iPods and the 1 Mac...
I'm puzzled. Any tips?
Thanks. Is this a shuffle only issue or something bigger that i am missing.
Yes; all other iPods can accept music from multiple iTunes libraries.

IPOD and power adapters help =(
sooo, i decided to restore ERRRYTH`n. but on my ipod screen, it has a picture of a power adapter and an outlet. so i plugged the usb into my computer to charge it or someth`n, but it won`t do anyth`n. and when i press MENU AND MIDDLE BUTTON, it goes to a picture of the battery charging, only, its frozen like that. it aint animated. i tried restart`n the ipod, the computer, dc`n the usb and putting it into another usb port. =( anybody had this problem before?! if soo, please tell me the SOLUTiON. ty.\
btw. somebody told me if might be crashed it while flashing the firmware =T if so. please PLEASE give me a solution =(You don't necessarily have to buy one. If you know someone with one, use theirs. If you live near an Apple store, take it by and they should let you connect your iPod to a power adapter. If they give you trouble, take it to the Genius Bar and ask them what to do.

Hi Ken,
Wow, I've logged into adobe and never seen your response until now.
I need to make the forums more of a daily stop I guess.
Thank you for your response, When I go to the Archives, it states I have none. In addition, previously when I'd tried to move items to the archive, they just disappeared
Currently my desktop is not connecting at all, Everytime I connect, it's states "We have now logged you out" and requests I login again.
I have of course rebooted,
Gone into taskmanager, killed all the relevant threads, tried again to login through the desktop, no luck, I'll have to uninstall it, make sure the threads are killed, then reboot it and then reinstall it, but I've not had the time to do that.
On another note, and just as a point of reference, myself, personally, I hate these "cloud" file repositories (not to be confused with adobe cloud services which I love) but the file repositories themselves imho, are a blackhole of resource usage when one doesn't/isn't using them,
Is there a way we can use it more of a "ftp" sort of thing, when I want to I can put files there? There is no way to "Download" the repository, no way to download the folders.. only individual files and then it takes I think three different steps before the download starts.. I find this very inhibiting. Just an fyi. for what it's worth.
Please, feel free to contact me,
I'm on g+ chat [email protected] -
Hi everyone.
I had an itunes account for my classic and a few months ago wanted to add my daughters ipod to it. it told me when i pluged hers in 2 ipods could not use the same account and asked me if i wanted it to link her ipod and delete the current libary. like a fool i said yes. now i have a party comming up and cant plug my classic in without it saying if i sync it will wipe my 6000 songs and leave me with the new blank itunes that i have just set up.
what i want to do is add my 6000 songs to a new apple id libary/itunes without it wiping all my songs. does anyone know how to do this.
help thanksSince all of your music came from your computer in the first place, then it should still be there and should be included in your backup copy of your computer.
" it told me when i pluged hers in 2 ipods could not use the same account"
This is not true. You have misunderstood.
You can sync as many ipods/iphones/ipads as you like to one one library. -

Trying to sync ipod with itunes library, but I keep getting this message, " The ipod is synced with another itunes library. Do you want to erase this ipod and sync with this i tunes library?"
I do not want to erase my ipod!!! Any suggestions?? please help!Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive (works the same with an SD card) into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

I've uploaded my music onto my library, which including converting music to a compatible format, and moved it to my ipod in iTunes. In the list everything is there. However, once I disconnect my ipod and switch it on, only 4-5 songs appear. Yet I've moved about 80 songs onto it.
Can someone help me? I have so much music that I want to put on my 30gig ipod, but if I can't get it to work, I'm considering to return it. (Which is sad cause it was a 21st Bday pressie.)
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thankyou.Read this article http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301748
If you don't want a bunch of sub-folders all you need to do is create a new Compilation and call it - mp3's or what ever - select all the tunes that you want in that Compilation from the main iTunes window - CMD-I and Compilation =Yes. All those tune will now be in on folder located in the Compilations folder of iTunes. For this to work you also need to select the 'keep' option.
