Ipod and ipad do not play well together with photo cache

Running windows 7 on an hp laptop.  Ipod classic, original ipad.  Itunes 11.3.1.2.  No cloud involvement.
Each time I change between syncing my pad or pod, itunes seems to need to rebuild the photo cache.  Nothing lost except about 10 to 15 minutes while all this is done and my entire photo library is copied to the device.  Has anyone else seen this?  any way to resolve it?  Or perhaps have them each create their own cache directory?
Thanks!

Maybe give this a read. You might have a conflict between the OS level commands and something in Photoshops keyboard commands. Just a thought.

  • After Effects CC and Windows 8 not playing well together.  How can I fix this?

    I thought the problem was a specific project file, but then it happened during another, and then another that I was building without any funky assets.  After Effects suddenly ceases to respond, it flickers uncontrollably while Windows 8 Explorer becomes semi-unresponsive as well.  When AE becomes responsive again, the same thing happens when I go to make another edit or two.
    Troubleshooting: What I noticed is when I go to the Task Manager to kill Explorer, AE responds again.  Until I go to make another few edits at least, where it then starts to flicker uncontrollably again.  Does anybody else have this problem?  This is really putting a kink in my workflow.

  • Safari and 1passwords are not playing well together since updates??

    Safari will not allow me to enter websites with 1passwords.  When I input the password it reverts back to enter you pasword.  I have updated to all of the newest versions and Safari is still not working.  I am having no issues with Firefox.  Been exchanging emails with Agilebits and have sent them two diagnostic reports, still no one has an answer??  Can anyone help?

    Some people are having some problems although some fixed it with the following solution.
    Go here https://agilebits.com/extensions/mac/index.html
    Check the checkbox "Allow beta extensions"
    and download the recent version of 1password for Safari.
    Clean Up & Reset Safari by doing the following:
    Many times corrupt application resources are the reason for an application's slow performance. Safari has a variety of these, and Apple has conveniently enabled quick resetting of these resources through the "Reset Safari..." option in the "Safari" menu. Despite this, some people may wish to still reset Safari's resources manually. To do this, Quit Safati and locate and remove the files in the following folders:
    /username/Library/Cookies/
    /username/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/
    /username/Library/Caches/Metadata/Safari/
    Then remove the following from the /username/Library/Safari/ folder:
    Downloads.plist
    Form Values
    History.plist
    HistoryIndex.sk
    LastSession.plist
    LocalStorage (folder)
    TopSites.plist
    WebpageIcons.db
    Delete caches
    Safari enables you to remove its cache from the "Reset Safari" option; however, you can use a third-party cache cleaning utility built for your operating system to remove all system caches to clear any faults with them that might be affecting Safari. Several of these utilities are: OnyX

  • Suggestions? DVDSP4 and LaCie d2 not playing well together

    Trying to burn dvd from SP4 to new LaCie d2 DVD external drive. I keep getting error message "#6" indicating that there's a problem with the power/ or bus reset.
    I can burn an image from disk utilities, so I know that the Mac OS (10.4.2) can talk to this drive; I can also burn from Toast.
    Neither LaCie nor Apple support knows for sure what's up. Recommendations?
    Thanx!

    Hi John,
    I have a very similar setup. And found that connecting the external drive through the firewire interface proved to be a more robust solution than via usb.
    Otherwise our external La Cie burner runs faultlessly on a wide variety of host machines.

  • HT202778 My iPod and iPad will not sync with iTunes

    Help! What has changed that all of a sudden, (within the past 3 days) I no longer can sync my iPod and iPad with iTunes on my Mac. What has changed? Everything is up-to-date on all of my machines/devices/software

    I had difficulties syncing my iPad Air last week that I have since resolved by changing back a few of my settings to what I had been using in the past. I have now synced my iPhone 5S multiple times (via USB cable) to the latest iTunes version on my Mac Pro with no issues.   In my situation, I don't know if the problems I had originally experienced in syncing the iPad Air was partly because I was making an initial attempt at syncing with a new Mac Pro and a copy of iTunes (whereby the iTunes sync options defaulted to Apple's original settings) or if it was because my previous settings were just overridden.  In either case, my issues were resolved as follows:
         1) on the MacPro, I left iTunes Match "on" and selected "Sync only checked songs and videos" within the iTunes Summary Options section.  For my music sync settings, I selected  "Sync Music" & "Entire music library", and
         2) for the iPad Air and iPhone 5S, I turned iTunes Match off as well as the Show All Music and Genius options (i.e., Settings, Music, "Show All Music", "Genius", and "iTunes Match" are all disabled [off]----I always adjust my playlist on the Mac Pro anyway, so I only care about the iTunes Match feature when updating iTunes on the Mac (as a backup measure in addition to the Time Capsule) and I prefer to access music that is directly stored on the iPad & iPhone rather than use the iCloud. Last week, when I initially did the sync with the iPad Air and had to reset, erase all content, and restore the device, Apple defaulted a few of these settings to on.  I did not experience any troubles with my iPhone 5S sync with the new Mac Pro as I was more careful to make certain that these settings were deactivated (because I did not run into further difficulties, I also did not have to reset, erase, & restore my iPhone as was the case with the iPad).  I can't say what combination of the "Show All Music", "Genius", and "iTunes Match" settings are a contributing factor to any sync issues, but I recalled having them all off on the iPads and iPhones when successfully syncing over the past several years.  So when it worked the first time a few days ago with the iPhone 5S sync, I didn't go looking for trouble to further isolate the cause (of my previous iPad Air difficulties last week) by setting the "Show All Music" and/or "Genius" options to on (i.e., I just made sure they were all off and was happy to see the iPhone 5S sync successfully).  There are multiple iTunes sync options, so I realize there are other settings that may work fine for many, but I have had relatively few issues in the past when syncing as described.
    I have continued to edit playlists/add songs and have synced successfully several times.  After having had quite a few sync issues with the iPad Air last week, I am going to be more careful to examine the iTunes sync options on both the Mac Pro and iPhone 5s & iPad Air (to make certain that they have not changed) when I update any IOS software on either device in the future.

  • MacBook Pro and 27" Display not playing nice together

    I'm having a rather strange problem with my Early 2011 MacBook Pro and my 27" Apple Display (Mini-Display port). They don't want to play nice together. The display will randomly/intermittently disconnect and turn black, then reconnect, sometimes after a second or so, but sometimes not for a good 10 seconds or more.
    - My MBP works fine on other monitors (Thunderbolt 27", 24" LG via DVI adaptor).
    - My wife's MBP works fine on this monitor.
    - Had a tech look at the monitor, his MacBook works on it fine too.
    - The combination of my MBP and this 27" Apple Display gives you the result shown in the video.
    It happens quite frequently -- often enough to make working on this combination unbearable. But I have no clue as to what's going on here.
    In "System Information" under "Graphics / Displays", the display not show up as connected to either the PCIe or Built-In graphics adapter when the 27" has turned black. When the screen is on, it shows up.
    Here's a YouTube video of the symptoms.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z0C50k0189I
    I'm stumped. Does anyone have any ideas?

    Your video shows the MacBook Pro display turning blue for a few seconds, several different times. This is an acknowledgement that a display is coming (or going).
    Unencumbered by anything sensible, my diagnosis would be that you have a loose connection.
    Mini DisplayPort cables can be diabolical. When inserting, you must make certain that essentially ALL of the metal end disappears inside the computer jack.

  • Do Yosemite and Adobe CS5.0 play well together?

    I'm a visual designer - both graphic and web. Adobe CS is how I do my work.
    I had a disastrous time when I upgraded my (then) new desktop to Mavericks awhile back (it had just come out, right around the time I got my newest machine), was told by some Apple tech that "you can get a free upgrade of Keynote when you upgrade to Mavericks!!!" Was a knee jerk move on my part, caused almost every one of my apps to break since Mavericks was programmed to only work with the latest/bleeding edge versions of everything, apparently. Took me weeks and weeks to right my apps situation with the new OSX, not only my Adobe CS apps, but Powerpoint, my Epson printer drivers, zipping software, etc. etc. the list went on and on. Every time I thought I was good to go, something else broke. Ugh.
    Now I've got a client working in the latest version of Keynote, and the latest OSX (Yosemite). I've been holding off on downloading Yosemite since the last debacle, although would be nice (I think - I've also noticed Apple's been denigrating Keynote lately ... tsk tsk) to have the free upgrade to the newest version of Keynote, as well.
    My question is this - since I have INSTALLED (not cloud-based. Refuse to go to subscription based ... I want to OWN the copies of my apps) versions of Adobe CS 5.0-55 on my machine (only my INDD is 6.0), will Yosemite play nicely with those apps? And what about Office 2011 for Mac? (I only use PPT from this suite) Anyone have any experience with this, and can you confirm that you did NOT have a problem with these app versions when upgrading to Yosemite? I do not want to go through that mess again!
    Thanks.

    Sorry folks, should have poked around more before posting my question. Feedback can be found in the link below - in short, I'm NOT upgrading at this point in time. Sounds like the same thing going on with the new OSX as with Mavericks. Cannot afford to wade through hours of troubleshooting and catch up once again! (sigh)

  • ICal, Mail, and Exchange don't play well together

    I running Lion. Syncing happens for the most part, but there are bugs. When I create events, the name of the event reverts back to New Event after it syncs with the Exchange server. This isn't my biggest issue. The problem I desperately want to solve is that my calendar invitations do not show in Mail. The only way I can accept/decline invitations is in the iCal Invitations tray. This means that I cannot see comments people make in invitations, or even more importantly, when then decline my invitations. I know it works as it should for another user on our network, but not for me. We're both running the same apps and the same operating system.
    Any thoughts on how to make the Apple apps play well, or what is the best way to wipe everything and start over? Fresh install, etc. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

    I appreciate the response, but it's not the same issue. True, the "erasing the event name and reverting back to New Event" is the same, but as I said, that's not my biggest issue. I have not seen any other threads anywhere that reflect the issue of event invitations not showing in Mail (although I'm sure someone else has experienced it).
    Sine there's someone else at my company with the same setup, and it's working, I was hoping that someone could suggest the best process for wiping everything out and re-installing. I used to do this back before the OSX days, but since OSX I've had so few problems that I've hardly ever needed to do any kind of support.

  • KVM switch and Mavericks don't play well together

    I upgraded to Mavericks yesterday, and started having this very annoying problem with my KVM switch, which used to work fine with Mountain Lion. I've been using this KVM switch for my mac mini and PC, in order to share my keyboard and mouse, very stably for several months.
    Basically, when switching back and forth, there is a chance that ALL the peripheral devices would stop working in Mavericks. This includes my apple bluetooth keyboard and the magic touchpad, which are not related with USB (or maybe the bluetooth chip is still hooked up via USB inside).
    For some reason, screen sharing stops working too, althought the IP I was trying to connect to was the ethernet port.
    If I try to do a shutdown -r now via SSH, the system tries to shut itself down, but would get stuck with a spinning animation on the screen.
    There is nothing in the system log, no error message.
    My KVM switch is an IOGear GCS42UW6. Connected USB devices are: Apple USB keyboard and Logitech G500 mouse.

    10.8 worked well with my Mac Mini (2009) connected to IOGEAR KVM model GCS1108. My mouse is from Redmond and the keyboard is a Goldtouch.
    Mavericks has a problem with my KVM switch as well. It seems to be a USB problem.
    Case 1: The Mini's video is connected to the KVM switch -- mini DVI port to DVI. If the KVM USB cable (known good) is connected, the Mini chimes at boot but no grey Apple logo appears. LCD remains blank white. Boot does not progress.
    Case 2: The Mini's video is connected to the KVM switch, as before. If the KVM USB cable is NOT connected, the Mini chimes at boot, the grey logo appears, and boot proceeds normally. Video is fine. I  then connect the KVM USB cable to the Mini and use keyboard and mouse. KVM switching works as expected.
    If the KVM USB cable is NOT connected but a keyboard and mouse are connected directly to the Mini, the boot sequence is normal. Video works.
    The problem is not the hardware, all of which worked well with 10.8 (Mountain Lion). I would downgrade if Apple made 10.8 available from the App Store.

  • F2FS and rEFInd don't play well together?

    For a few days now I've been trying to install the F2FS file system onto an HP Envy 6 laptop with a tiny (30GB) Intel SSD.  The SSD itself is enterprise-grade and is fully functional to my knowledge at the time of this writing.  I will be testing that last statement later today so I may have to retract my last sentence if I prove that assumption to be false.
    The problem is simple:  I can install Arch using an up-to-date ISO and that's fine.  In line with the wiki (see here: F2FS wiki page) I made the boot directory a 512MB Fat 32 EFI partition (EF00 type).  I formatted all of my other partitions as F2FS volumes.  This part works splendidly as far as I can see.  However, when I reboot to finish the install I get a rEFInd splash screen but the normal icons (which are suppose to allow you to choose which install you want to boot into) are not visible.  I only see the words and icons below the primary one (the ones for information, reboot and shutdown options).  I have tried to install this with an older Arch ISO and I get (unsurprisingly) the same result (this is a net install after all).
    I use Syslinux on my desktop machine and I'm very happy with it. I considered installing it instead of but its implementation is, at the present time, full of bugs and ugliness.  I have used Gummiboot once in the past but it was only after several hours of trial and error that I got it to work.  I have found rEFInd's installer to be simpler to use and has a more attractive presentation on the whole.  For these reasons I would prefer to use rEFInd but if I have to I'll use something else if this issue is un-resolvable at this point in its development.
      I have tried F2FS in the past but I opted to discontinue using it in the past because it lacked (at that time) an fsck mechanism to recover from crashes and other unexpected fun.  As of a couple of weeks ago there was a commit that showed that F2FS does now have a viable fsck mechanism built-in.
    I also would like to hear from anyone else's (un)succesful trials with F2FS.  I'd be grateful to if I could reading any other person's first-hand experiences and opinion would of F2FS.
    Edit:  I forgot to add that I did look at the SSD wiki page entry but it only mentions F2FS as a possible file system to use and provides a link the Wikipedia's list of possible file systems to use for SSDs.  See here:  F2FS on SDDs
    Thank you,

    Considering that rEFInd is not a bootloader at all and knows nothing about the filesystem of your rootfs, I am going to guess this has more to do with your rEFInd config than your choice of filesystem.
    Maybe it would help if you posted your rEFInd config and a 'tree /boot' (you'll need the tree package from [community]).

  • ITunes and Apple TV not playing well with one another?

    I updated to the latest version of iTunes and can no longer "share" any more with Apple TV. When I do get it to work,which is seldom, it will do so only very briefly before stopping in the middle of a song.  Even then, the transmission is of poor quality.  Any ideas why?

  • PS4 and Cintiq not playing well together

    This problem relates to the Cintiq 21 UX & Photoshop CS4 ONLY!
    I have a dual monitor setup: Cintiq 21 & NEC 19 LCD Opticlear Miltisync 90GX2. Both monitors are driven by separate ATI Radeon HD2600XT cards with 512MB video RAM. The system CPU is an AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual core 6000+ chip. I have loaded what I believe to be the most current drivers from this web site.
    Start PS4 on the Cintiq side; load ANY image; get image with 6 rectangles overlaid and each rectangle is divided diagonally in half from URHC to LLHC. Lower half is good image; upper hald is either a solid color, grossly pixellated, or gibberish. Drag the image a bit and as long as it is being dragged it is a perfect image; stop dragging and it returns to the image with 6 rectangles. Drag across to the NEC monitor and image is sharp and clear while dragging but goes transparent upon release of mouse.
    Start PS4 on the NEC side and all is as advertised. Drag only the image over to Cintiq and it is still good. Now drag PS4 over to the Cintiq side and all is still good. Open another image on the Cintiq side and problem repeats.
    This problem is fully repeatable, does not happen with any other software, and renders PS4 virtually useless. PS3 works as advertised and always has.  I've done 4 installs of CS4 to see if it was the problem including a thorough registry cleaning between installs. Situation is constant across installs. Oddly, Bridge does not exhibit the problem.  I'm sending to Wacom as well.  I provided 2 jpgs of what the images look like.
    Any and all advice greatly appreciated
    dave

    Both monitors use the DVI connection  on the respective cards, so no,
    not at this time. Perhaps if I can locate an adapter I may be able to do
    so. However, Photoshop CS3 has absolutely no problems with this set up
    nor does Bridge CS4, only Photoshop. As Bridge loads with Photoshop and
    is not a separate install, I'm thinking that while it could have
    something to do with the cards/driver, there must be something more.
    However, I've been wrong before  . . . . .

  • RDP and Java not playing well together

    I have a Windows 8.1 Pro machine set up for RDP that connects to a field device network. The field network is not accessible from the Internet, so the only method I have to connect to the field devices is RDP through the machine. The devices use
    Java for their GUI. When I log onto one of the devices in the field via RDP, the amount of memory Java uses goes up and stays up. Every time I log onto a field device, the memory usage goes up and stays up to the point if I hit 25 or so field devices, I get
    an Out of Memory error and Java shuts down the main application running on the machine. However, if I log onto the devices directly from the machine, not using RDP, the amount of memory Java uses doesn't go up. The machine has 6Gb of RAM, rebooting it is the
    only way to clear out the memory, which gets it back down to a more normal 14%.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
    What is the result if we connect to a normal Windows system via RDP? We should first find out whether this is a RDP side issue or a JAVA issue.
    And for high memory issue, we have a tool named RAMMap to view the detailed memory usage

  • .Mac and Mail not playing well together

    I am not able to use the .Mac account after someone else tried mailing themselves an email with many images from my computer. The message was too big to send and I could have done it another way. In any case, when I log into Mail the .Mac account hangs (spinning circle forever). When I iqut the program Mail either crashes or gives me the following message.
    "Mail has undone actions on some messages so that you can redo the actions while online.
    Additional information: Operation could not be completed. (MFMessageErrorDomain error 1028.)"
    How do I stop whatever it is doing and make it so I can use the account again?

    Did you ever get this resolved? I'm getting the same error with a local IMAP account, so it's not just .Mac that's having trouble.

  • SwingWorker and Action - not playing well together

    I have a long running task. I also like using AbstractAction. But since these are both classes, and Java won't let you extend more than a single class, I figured I'd build a new abstract "SwingAction" class. This extends SwingWorker and implements Action. I leave the SwingWorker classes out and leave the actionPerformed method from Action out. Here's what I'm left with:
    import java.beans.PropertyChangeListener;
    import java.util.HashMap;
    import javax.swing.Action;
    import javax.swing.event.SwingPropertyChangeSupport;
    import org.geotools.gui.swing.worker.SwingWorker;
    public abstract class SwingAction extends SwingWorker implements Action {
         private HashMap map = new HashMap();
         private boolean enabled = true;
         private SwingPropertyChangeSupport changer = new SwingPropertyChangeSupport(this);
         public Object getValue(String key) {
              return map.get(key);
         public void putValue(String key, Object value) {
              if (value!=null){
                   Object o = map.get(key);
                   if (o==null || !o.equals(value)){
                        map.put(key, value);
                        changer.firePropertyChange(key, o, value);
         public void setEnabled(boolean enabled) {
              if (enabled!=this.enabled){
                   this.enabled=enabled;
                   changer.firePropertyChange("enabled", new Boolean(!enabled), new Boolean(enabled));
         public boolean isEnabled() {
              return enabled;
         public void addPropertyChangeListener(PropertyChangeListener listener) {
              changer.addPropertyChangeListener(listener);
         public void removePropertyChangeListener(PropertyChangeListener listener) {
              changer.removePropertyChangeListener(listener);
    }I've implemented this in a class and it works great - the first time! It seems like once I hit "start", I'm not able to call it again. I've tried calling interrupt in the finished method, but that has no affect.
    I'm including the class that implements SwingAction - you'll need to change it to do something else and hook it up to a button to try it out, but if you have any idea why it's failing to run a second time, I'd love to hear it.
    Thanks!
    P.S. Here's the class that implements SwingAction:
    import java.awt.Cursor;
    import java.awt.event.ActionEvent;
    import javax.swing.ImageIcon;
    import javax.swing.JLabel;
    public class EnlargeImageAction extends SwingAction {
         private WMSViewer wmsViewer;
         private JLabel mapImage;
         private Cursor cursor;
         public EnlargeImageAction(WMSViewer wmsViewer, JLabel mapImage){
              this.wmsViewer=wmsViewer;
              this.mapImage = mapImage;
         public Object construct() {
              System.out.println("Calling action");
              return wmsViewer.getEnlargedImage();
         public void finished() {
              mapImage.setIcon((ImageIcon)get());
              mapImage.setEnabled(true);
              wmsViewer.setCursor(cursor);
              this.setEnabled(true);
         public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
              mapImage.setEnabled(false);
              cursor = wmsViewer.getCursor();
              wmsViewer.setCursor(new Cursor(Cursor.WAIT_CURSOR));
              this.setEnabled(false);
              start();
