I dont have an iTrip for my 5th gen, but i had one for my 4th gen, and that actually plugged into the top of the iPod. The new ones obviously plug into the dock connector. There's no reason why you would need to plug your headphones in at the same time cause they should work independantly of each other. I was using my friends a couple days ago and he didnt need his headphones.

  • 5th gen ipod and iplay monster transmitter question...

I have the 5th gen. ipod and i just bought the iplay ipod transmitter, so that i can play my ipod through the fm radio station in my car...but when i plugged it in my ipod and followewd instructions..nothing happened..i even took it back and traded another 1 and it still wont work...is it my ipod or is the iplay transmitter just not compatible with the ipod/video? please help..im getting very frustrated with apple..they put out the new ipod with no accessory`s to match, what a bummer!!

I think I have the same cable that you are talking about and it works just fine for my 4th and 5th gen ipods. All I had to do was plug it into the cig lighter and then select a clear channel for me it was 89.1 and matched it with the push button on the Iplay.
Just to make sure we are talking about the same cable this is the one I have

  • IPOD and iTrip Question

I just received my 5th Gen Ipod Nano 16gb yesterday and when trying to listen to it in my car using my iTrip, the sound is completely flat and non-bassy. I noticed that the problem was gone once and the sound was fine/full-sounding, but evidently whenever I use the onboard speakers beforehand, the sound in my car (using the itrip) is completely flat and basically sounds like the speakers. Even turning the sound completely off on the iPOD (doesn't affect the volume on the radio) does nothing!
    Is anybody experiencing this problem?
    Please Help.

There are limitations on what the iTrip can exactly transmit through the airwaves to your stereo...
As bass is possible but again depends on the radio transmission strenght and format.
Have you tried any additional channels? and which version of the iTrip are you using? I've used some with my older classics and thought that the iTrip worked quite well with the edition that I used for that edition.
Also, have you played changed the iPod from it's standard Equalizer settings? If you have the equilizer in the iPod enabled, try disabling it. Equally if you don't feel like your getting enough base try enabling it to see if the change helps with the sounds.... It could be based on the radio, reciever and transmitter...
As some of the newer cars have the antenna buit into the back window, some ontop and others on the front hood... I've used the iTrips with the cars with the antenna on the hood and the iTrip/iPod up on the front dash/cupholders... No issues with them in the past.
Let us know some of the details to try and assist you furhter.

  • Ipod and Itrip failure!!??

I have a 4th gen iPod (i think, 20 gig, no buttons across the top not video??) I have been using an itrip with it for over a year and no probs. I recently updated to ipod driver/update 3.1 and the last two days I will plug the itrip in an dhit play and after a minute or two the ipod goes blank. If I plug in the firewire charge/power connection I have from the cig lighter it works. My drive to work is short so I don't usually worry about charging the 'pod. Does anyone know why all of a sudden the 'pod needs the juice to keep working??

  • IPod with dock connector is not getting charged with car charger and iTrip

My iPod from 2003 with dock connector is not getting charged in my car by using the griffin iTrip with USB car charger. iTrip works, but not the charger. Maybe there´s not enough power output from the car charger? Only 5.0V with 400mA are coming out. iPod needs more? 12V with 1.0A?
Does somebody have information about that problem for me?

Has Apple dropped support for older model iPods?
Nope. Support is still there, even back to the original 1G iPod with the wheel that actually turns. I have a 3G iPod, and it syncs just fine. There have not been any software updates for years, but the old software still works fine with the latest iTunes.
You have to use FireWire, which you seem to be doing.
Try putting it into Disk Mode first, then connect it.

Does the iPod currently play music as it should?
Do you have another docking cable (FireWire) that you can try? FireWire connectors often get worn and they no longer work, although the power connection can continue to work.
Did you try the other FireWire port in the iMac?

  • Ipod and FM Transmitter (Griffin)

I am doing something wrong with my FM transmitter. It is a Griffin and I have it installed and working...that is, my iPod plays well. The problem is that everytime I stop and start the car, I have to reset the transmitter so it is the same as the FM frequency the radio is on. I think it's supposed to do this automatically, but it's not. Is there something I'm doing wrong?
    Thank you very much.

Thanks for the info. I did adjust my station and that is fine. But, the transmitter goes back to the preset station whenever I stop and start. In the directions, it said once I set the iPod to match the FM station, it would stay there subseqently and I wouldn't have to adjust it each time. Or, at least I THOUGHT that's what it said. is this not right?
    The directions say:
    "Tuning
To increase or decrease channels quickly, press the
Quick Key and either Frequency key.
Holding down either Frequency key slightly longer
    will change the frequency faster.
    5. Play a song on your iPod, and adjust the radio’s volume.
The Transmitter will memorize the last frequency you use,
and will be set to that frequency when you connect again."
Maybe I am reading them incorrectly, but it doesn't seem to me that the
transmitter is 'memorizing' the last frequency, since i have to readjust it every time I start up the car because it is back at the preset frequency.

  • Ipod Nano/iTrip/Car charger problems.

I recently bought an itrip nano (the one that fits around your ipod) and i originally had a charger for my car, but thanks to the good people at apple I had to buy a new one because no cables would fit the old charger with the itrip plugin.
    *end rant, begin question*
Alright, I ended up buying a macally car charger that had a USB port that would have a wire that could fit the two together (cost about 40 bucks). Ready to here nice clear music right? (clear enough since i did remove my antenna) Wrong...now I hear this annoying high pitched sound if i turn up my car speakers...I already know the problem with reception when you turn up the ipod volume...so what am I to do??
This isn't a question about reception, ive known for awhile the reception problems that come with these devices. This is a question of that freakin sound, and I'm sure someone is going to tell me that i need to buy something else. Thanks Ipod!

Either that or an expensive retrofit. My last car had a lousy radio so I bought a Sony that had an aux port. There are also some really expensive models that have iPod ports. Another option for some cars is an expensive device that adds an auxilliary input to your factory radio but there can be downsides. For me I have a choice of losing my XM radio or losing audible warnings. And then there's the FM transmitters. I bought a Kensington digital and am mostly happy with it. I say mostly because in some areas there is no free frequency so the iPod is unusable.

  • HELP: Using my video iPod with iTrip/Mac OXS 10.3.9

I just bought the new iPod and one of the main reasons i bought it was so that i could listen to music in my car. I bought iTrip along with the iPod but it isn't compatible. Someone suggested that i could use a cassette tape adapter but i dont have a tape player in my car... just CD. Is there any i can play the songs from my iPod in my car? if so what do i need to buy.
Also, everytime i try to buy a TV show or Podcast from iTunes, it tells me that i need 10.3.9 but i only have version 10.3.5. What do i need to do about that?
Please help me if you can. Thanks!

hey, the new itrip uses a dock connecter and works with the new ipods. u can get it here http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/itrip30/index.php

  • IPod Problem with FM Transmitter

I don't know if this is the right place to post this but I bought a 2gig nano last friday. I also bought the Kensington FM transmitter w/ car charger so I can play it in my car. The first 10 minutes of using it, everything seemed to play fine. After coming back to my car and starting it up, I tried to play it again on the same station and same settings. All I could start to hear was music that was skipping and the iPod became unusually hot fast. Has anyone else had this problem or is the kensington transmitter faulty? I've tried resetting the ipod as well but no luck.

Did you have any luck? I pretty much have the same setup as you - I've lost count the number of times I've reset the iPod and different combinations of things I tried to get the transmitter and nano to work together...but it just isn't happening! Everybody else here that I've read seemed to have fixed it by just resetting the iPod.
The iPod came shipped with 1.2 so there was nothing to update, and both things were purchased new.

  • Deperately need help with my iPod and Pioneer Car Stereo

I just bought Pioneer's newest deck from Best Buy. The Model number of the deck is DEH-P6800MP. It has a mini jack (2.5 mm stereo jack) on the front of the deck that you can plug your iPod into. I purchased the little adaptor that allows me to just plug the iPod in using the Headphone Jack. It works great. I can use my click wheel to navigate the menus and the sound is awesome...except for one thing, it only plays through the right side speakers. I thought maybe the Fader needed to be adjusted on the deck but everything is dead center. I thought maybe something was wrong with the deck but the Tuner and CD player both work perfectly. I even tried using different cables with no success. When I called Best Buy they told me they were familiar with the problem and to download the newest software for my iPod and it should fix it. It didn't! I am so frustrated by this. I paid alot of money for this deck thinking I wouldn't have to buy any additional interfaces and would never have to deal with an FM transmitter again. Can anybody help?
Fifth Generation 60 Gig iPod   Windows XP

After plugging my walkman in and experiencing the same problem, I figured it must be the adaptor. I went to the local Radio Shack and picked up a mini-jack adaptor that was indeed Stereo. Thankfully it worked!!! I can't tell you how happy my family and I are to have all our music available in the family vehicle. Thanks for your help and @#$% Best Buy for selling me not one but two car stereos under the false pretense that I wouldn't need anything else to hook-up my iPod and then not having any idea how to help me when I needed it.

  • Charging iPhone with iPod car charger/FM Transmitter - Damage battery?

I used a new ipod car charger/FM transmitter to charge my old original model iphone and got a message popping up that the device isn't made to charge the iphone but it would charge so I left it in. Ever since then, my battery seems to be dying much, much faster than normal. Could I have damaged the battery?

Possible that the circuitry or output levels of the charger was not an exact match to the desired voltage or resistance of the 30 PIN connector and thus caused an issue with the battery...but it's not very likely that this alone caused your battery to all of a sudden not hold a charge...

  • IPod and iTunes freezes while uploading music

So a couple of weeks ago, I was using my 40Gb iPod when suddenly it froze. I reset it but when I tried to play another song, it skipped all of them as if they weren't there. I had lost my entire library in an instant. Once I got back to my computer (Powerbook) I managed to restore it. During this the folder with the exclamation mark and the run-click-run-click problems showed up. Now after successfully restoring it, I can't get my music back on it. For some reason at various points in uploading songs (whether it be after 20 songs or 2000) both my iTunes and iPod freezes. I normally reset it which causes the "improper device removal" sign to come up. Then when I plug it back into my computer I get the message that iTunes can't recognize the information on my iPod and that I need to restore it again. However sometimes it takes 3 or 4 times of it freezing during uploading to get that message. Either way, I can't get my library of music back onto my iPod without it freezing. I never see the folder with exclamation mark and the music that I do managed to get on there works perfectly fine.
Does anyone have a clue what is wrong with my iPod and is there anyway to fix it?

I tried the update with no success. Here's another update after actually trying to use my iPod:
When I have it just plugged into headphones or speakers half of the songs cut off in the middle, just a little bit off near the end. Some don't work at all. Plus my iPod is very slow while moving through the menus.
When I have it plugged into the Monster FM transmitter, I really can't get anything to work. It freezes on almost every song. The most I can get a song to play is about 16 seconds before it skips over to the next.
This seems just seems really messed up but it seems to be a software problem. Any ideas?

  • Multiple iPods and users on one computer and constant dialogs....

Everyone in my family has an iPod (total of 5) and we each have logins with our own iTunes accounts. This works very well except for the following. Each time someone logins in (or user switches) when an iPod that is not theirs is plugged in, they get a dialog telling them so, and requests one of three answers. This is anoying, and when my 7yo clicks on the wrong button it wipes out what his brother or sister or Mother or I have on our iPods... We can get the stuff back of course but it's a PITA!
Is there any way to have iTunes completely ignore iPods that are not synched to it! I would prefer to not even have it show up in iTunes or on the desktop. Although this would be exceptable over what i have now.
    TIA

"Is there any way to have iTunes completely ignore iPods that are not synched to it!"
No there's not, iTunes will always give you a message if you sync to a "foreign" library. However, you can set the iPods up so that iTunes doesn't open when they are connected. Connect the iPod and when it shows in iTunes click on the icon to bring up the preference tabs. In the Summary tab uncheck "Open iTunes when this iPod is connected". You have to do this for each of your iPods in turn.

i have 3 different itunes accounts and would like to combine them into just one for all my devices, a macbook pro, an iphone 4S, an older IPOD, and a ver sion one Ipad. how can i do this on all devices ?

i had one for a long time, then when i got the ipad i didn't realize they would all still work under one so i set up the second one on that
then when i got the new iphone i put in the info for the first and main one from my mac pro and it would not work at all, and i knew it was right, then it asked me to create a new one or i couldnt finish the setup
hence why i have 3 now
hard to believe you cannot combine into one
oh well, i will just make them all accessible for all 3
    thanks
