IPod and my new iMac
I'm currently waiting for delivery of my new G5 iMac. My 4G iPod is currently set to allow me to manually manage my playlists. Will I have to do anything special when I connect my iPod to the new computer? What will I have to do to transfer my songs from the iPod to the new computer ? I know these questions have been asked and answered a billion times, but after reading through 12 pages of posts i decided to ask for myself.
Cheers
Ian
G3 400 iMacDV Mac OS X (10.3.9)
If you attach it to your new computer it will ask you if you want to sync it with this computer from now on. So before you connect the ipod transfer all your music from your old computer to your new one using whatever method is your favorite. The easiest is probably to set the ipod to work like a hard drive,
1.connect it to the new computer,
2Select NO when itunes pops up and asks you if you want to sync now.
3Transfer all your music off your ipod to your itunes folder on the new mac. 4 Load the songs into itunes,
5 disconnect your ipod,
6 reconnect it and click YES when it asks you if you want to sync now
Don't forget to authorize your new computer to play songs you purchased from the Itunes store.
ENJOY!

Hi,
I have two iPods: an older 40-gig click wheel and a newer 80-gig video iPod. I just got an iMac running OSX. I'd like to transfer all the music from my 40-gig iPod and some of the video from my 80-gig iPod to the library in iTunes on my iMac. Is this possible? If it is, what's the easiest way?
Any help would be sincerely appreciated.iTunes will only let you copy your iTunes Store purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (music from CDs, other downloads and including iTunes purchased songs and in some cases, videos and games) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here (you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well):

There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide -
I bought a new iMac. All photo's from the old iMac are on my iPod. The old iMac had a problem, due to which I could not transfer photo's. So I am trying to import the photo's from my iPod to my new iMac. But this does not work. The new iMac suggests to replace the content of the iPod with the content of the iMac, but I want to do just the reverse. When the iPod is connected to the iMac, the iMac seems to ignore the iPod. Probably because the iPod was first used on the old iMac ?
Photos on the iPod are not stored in standard formats, but in formats that are optimised for the space annd screen size of the device. So, unless you have specifically chosen to save full size images on the iPod - and have set up disk access for the job - then it's not going to work.
There are apps that will recover photos from iPods. Have a search on MacUpdate
But the best solution is to get the pics from your old Mac somehow.

How do I transfer the music from my IPod to my new IMac computer? I just changed from a PC to IMac. 95% of the music on it is from CD's I own and the ITunes on the new IMac is only recongnizing the ones I bought off of ITunes.
That is correct. The music sync is one way - computer to ipod. The only exception is itunes purchases.
Copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer to your new one. -

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Of course. The best would be to transfer the iTunes library from your old Mac or PC to the new Mac, so you will keep everything and you won't have to use any third-party app.
Anyway, if you don't have access to the old PC or Mac, you can transfer songs from the iPod to your Mac. If you purchased all the songs on the iTunes Store, just open iTunes, connect the iPod and transfer the songs. If you are using an iPod touch, you will lose everything if you sync it with iTunes on the new iMac.
Another method is to use an app like Senuti to transfer the songs to iTunes, being a safer way to transfer them if you aren't sure that you will lose your songs -
Generation 4 iPod Connection to new iMac intel core 2 duo
Okay, first of all heres all my technical information:
-new iMac Intel Core 2 Duo
-Gen 4 iPod, non color diplay
-running iTunes 7.0.2
-sadly, no iPod power brick(although i think i need it to solve the problem)
Okay, now to the problem, I tried to connect the iPod to my new iMac, and it worked after leaving it alone for 15 minutes. It is formated to windows and i wanted the music to stay on it, so i disconnected it. Afterward i just thought, screw it, and connected it hoping to restore it, but it never showed up in iTunes or the finder. I thought this was odd, then i looked at the iPod and it displayed a image of a iPod power brick going into an outlet. i havent been able to get to the apple store and thought there must be an easier way to do this, so i went to get the old install disc for my iPod that came with it. Hoping this would finally work, i tried to run the package installer for the iPod to install the drivers, and it displayed(after it evaluated my comp) "Cannot be installed on this computer, missing Mac OSX Networking Update" I've looked all over the Downloads area of the Apple site and havent been able to find it. Can someone please help me!?!I have the new 24" flat screen imac and a new IPOD video. I was using the ipod on an old mac with 10.4 and it was working ok with a few sync issues. But when I tried it with the new mac I get very bad results. Itunes hangs and I need to do a hard power reset. Then the ipod once hung up and I had to do a restore on my old mac. Still have not successfully used the ipod with the new mac.
my system is the following
Machine Name: iMac
Machine Model: iMac6,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.16 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2

I have two Macs: an MBA and the new iMac. Is there a way to have iTunes and all the content in it identical on both machines?
Yes you can copy the content to your new machine and use Home Sharing to keep the content identical
Connect the two machines via an ethernet cable it is 3 times faster than Wifi. Turn wifi off on one machine to enforce ethernet connection
In System Preferences, Sharing turn on File Sharing
Then
Copy the music/itunes folder from the Macbook pro to the music/ folder on the imac
Both machines should now have the same library
Disconnect H the ethernet cable
Set up Home Sharing and under Settings at the bottom of the Home Sharing page. Select to transfer new purchases.
Do the same on the other machine.
Then when you r machines are connected by wifi and each time you start itunes it will transfer your new purchases
Setting up home sharing -
i have an ipod touch 8gb model number MA623LL. How do I install apps on my ipod? Is it capable of transferring/running apps? Why doesn't my ipod touch have the basic-beginning app on the beginning screen after i erased/wiped my ipod and started new?
Googling shows that you have the 1G iPod. For apps you need at least iOS 2. The iG can go as far os 3.1.3 that you get here:
Purchasing iOS 3.1 Software Update for iPod touch (1st generation)
Just be aware that there are presently not that many apps that work with a 1G with iOS 3.1.3 -
I just upgraded to Snow Leopard and a new Imac. Could someone tell me where the preference is to change file to open in original program instead of preview?
Right-click on one of the files and choose 'get info'. in the info box. Change the 'open with' setting to your correct application. Check the 'always open with' option before OK-ing the change, then click the 'change all' button before closing the info window.

HT4531 apps which is able to work in ipod and some new features
apps which is able to work in ipod and some new features
1] Apple US is not currently offering unlocked iPhone 5 for sale, so
it will not work in NZ. You must also research if the 4G/LTE bands used
in the US are the same as those in NZ - otherwise you will not be able
to connect at those speeds in NZ.
2] iPhone warranty is valid only in country of original purchase. Should
a situation arise that requires repair/replacement, you must return iPhone to US
(either personally or by sending to friend/relative to deliver to Apple).
Apple will not accept shipments from outside the US nor will Apple
return it to you outside the US. All shipping, insurance, and any
other costs are your responsibility.
3] I do not know, but expect the solution that works for any US purchased
electronics brought to NZ would also apply. -
hello,
is there a way we can transfer songs from ipod to our new imac? anyone who can assist in this regard would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!Hi mhol!
You can tranfer your iPod's music from your iPod to your computer by using a third-party program.
There are several free programs that you can download, that are compatible with a Mac, such as Senuti, which is a good one to use:

The old MacBook says "the other mac is ready" and the new iMac says "successfully connected to other Mac. They are connected via Ethernet. Shouldn't there be some sort of indication of progress? It just looks like they're stuck.

I have OS X on both my iPad and my new iMac. I purchased Pages for my iPad and my husband's iPad at least a year ago. All of my stuff on the iPad is stored in the Cloud. Do I have to purchase it again on the iMac? How do I get it to run on the iMac?

You should also be able to access your docs (even without the Pages app on your iMac) by logging into iCloud.com and using the Pages for iCloud beta app via your browser.
(By the way your iPad uses iOS and not OS X)
