Ipod artwork

After updating my ipod yesterday with the latest updates...my ipod will no longer display the artwork it DOES have on it while playing...like it used to. I DO have the "display artwork on ipod" option checked. itunes showed a que (circling arrows) which suggested that artwork was being transferred...or something...but nothing changed. are there any answers out there?

Hey Thornton Melon,
Have you tried resetting the iPod? If not, see this:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61705
If you look at the iPod in iTunes on the summary tab, it indicates the version, and if up-to-date, the update button is grayed out.
So the next option is to reinstall the iPod operating system by doing a "Restore to Factory Settings"
This is usually not an issue when you use one PC for iPod and all the songs/videos, etc, currently on the iPod are in your iTunes and play without issues.
So if you want to restore, this article provides how:

Hope this helps,

  • Ipod artwork gone, and won't connect to Itunes

I recently left my ipod in the sun for a while, and it got real hot - too hot to hold. But this has happened before, and I have never had a problem. I have about 50 Gigs of music on it and most of them work, play that is, but some do not. Furthermore, it appears that all of my artwork has dissapeared also. When im in the main menu with the scroller over the "music" icon there should be the floating images of all my album artwork, but that doesnt happen anymore. More about that, when i put my ipod to sleep, and then when i wake it and scroll onto the "music" icon, there is a weird "flashy sporadic color thing" that appears, it looks like when your comuter freezes and all the colors are all messed up.
Also, when i connect my ipod classic 160 GB to my macbook pro, the ipod image appears on my desktop, and i can open it in my finder and search through all the folders (contacts, notes, calendar, ect. .....), but when i connect it to itunes, it will appear on my sidebar, but when i click the ipod on the sidebar, i get the wheel of death  - and then am forced to force quit itunes. the headphone jack still works too. I ran a manual reboot or whatever and it says that the highest temp was 244c which is really hot.
Can someone help me, like is there some way for me to reboot it and erase all my music meanwhile restoring functionability? or am i hopelessly lost and destined to spend money on a new one?
    PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!

  • IPod Artwork Issue

My iPod classic crashed on my first sync with iTunes 11 and was forced to restore it and reload all of my songs. Now the album artwork is displayed in iTunes 11 but I cannot get the artwork to appear on my iPod.
Any ideas on how to solve this?

Reformating the ipod helped. Everything is right back to normal. I don't know what happend but the way I did it was a pain in the butt with everything I have on my ipod. I recommend not doing this if you have a huge video/podcast/music/audiobooks/other stuff that takes up more than 50 gb. It takes forever. Thanks for the help.

  • IPod Artwork Copy to iPod Proceedure

Anyone else find that if they update the artwork of an album or video, and sync up your iPod, that the whole file needs to be transfered again, not just updated with the new artwork. It kind of ***** if you have a 500mb movie and all you do is update the artwork for it, or if you update a whole album it has to copy the whole album over. Not sure about this one but it also seems like it transfers the whole file if you rate the song on the iPod when you sync again. It especially ***** if you only have a USB 1.1 connection... (gotta love that the new iPods aren't firewire anymore and the USB ports aren't 2.0 standard). I am gonna get a USB 2.0 PCI card... but I digress.
Does anyone have info about the artwork update process and if there's a setting to tweak to just transfer the artwork, not the whole file?
    Much appriciated.

Anyone else find that if they update the artwork of an album or video, and sync up your iPod, that the whole file needs to be transfered again, not just updated with the new artwork.
There's no way to avoid this. The artwork, ratings, lyrics, etc... are not separate files form the track they are being "added" to... they are actually embedded into the file itself, so the entire file is changed. Since the ID3 tags on the file have now been modified, iTunes will see this change and sync the newly updated file to the iPod. This is a good thing, because the changes you make to the file will remain with the file.
the USB ports aren't 2.0 standard
USB 2.0 was introduced in April of 2000, and standardized by the USB-IF towards the end of 2001. It was revised in December 2002 to make improvements for backwards compatibility. USB 2.0 is currently the standard version of USB. If your machine doesn't have USB 2.0, then that is because it was released prior to USB 2.0 becoming the standard.

  • IPOD Artwork issues

I have had a new IPOD Video for nearly a year now. i can only get the artwork from songs I purchase from Apple to show artwork. Even the artwork from CD's I ripped is not showing up. The funny thing is, the artwork shows up if I rip a CD with Windows Media Player. Rip the same CD to ITUNES, and it does not show the artwork. Any ideas, or should I buy the new Microsoft player when it comes out?

itunes doesn't just get the album cover for you when you rip a cd, you need to actually get a copy of the cover and put it in the 'album artwork'.. with the new itunes 7 you can find album artwork for you right click on the songs and press get album artwork or something like that, i don't use it though so i don't know how well it works..
and about windows media player, i think that retrieves it off the internet when you play the album, but i don't think it actually attaches it to the song.. i could be wrong though..
anyway hope some of that helped.. good luck

  • Display iPod artwork in iTunes

It is possible to have artwork from songs on your iPod show up in iTunes without having the songs in your library?
I listen to my iPod at work every day by plugging it into my computer (MacBook Pro). My main library is on my home computer (iMac G5).I don't want to transfer all my songs from the iPod to the MacBook, but it would be nice to be able to see the artwork in iTunes.
    Any way to do this?

I'm not sure I understand what you mean.
The cover art displays just fine on the iPod (when it's not plugged into the laptop) and it also displays for what little music I have in my iTunes library on the laptop.
What I want is for the cover art for music on the iPod to display in iTunes on the laptop when the iPod is plugged in and playing.
Might not be possible, but I don't see why it shouldn't be.

  • IPhone 5 on ios7 displaying ipod artwork as diagonal line

I have just recently synced my iPhone with os 7 with iTunes. With my old phone it showed the artist images - now it shows a diagonal line with their names...could someone please assist in getting the images back please

I am having issues too.  Sometimes when I move a reminder to another list and remove the "Remind me on a day" setting, the task just disappears!  I have used many to-do management programs throughout the years and feature-wise Apple's Reminders app is one of the simplest.  I love Apple's hardware and brand, but throughout their ecosystem I have been encountering more and more baffling software bugs to the point I notice myself feeling relieved when a more involved function (such as exporting photos from iPhoto on my iPad) works properly.  "It Just Works" is starting to become a mockery.  I am willing to trade advanced power-user features for software stability and reliability, but I am concerned about Apple's management when it has so many resources and can't even get a simple task list app right.

  • The album artwork on my iPod Classic is all mixed up. Wrong artwork on each song..

Why does the album artwork on my iPod Classic get all mixed up wheres it is correct in the library. Please help

    Hello Derick,
This usually happens as the result of a corrupt iPod artwork cache.  The only way to correct this is to restore your iPod to factory settings via iTunes.  Doing so will rebuild your iPod's artwork cache.  Not exactly sure as to how or why the corruption happened to begin with.

  • IPod Classic album artwork gone in new iTunes display board as of 1 Dec 2012

Now that I installed the new iTunes software and connect my iPod Classic the album artwork display in the bottom left corner has disappeared! There are other new features on this new iTunes layout that annoy me!
Apple...please go back to your previous iTunes layout and get my album artwork back.
My iPod is fine, there is nothing wrong with my iPod, just iTunes and their ridiculous change! I uninstalled and re-installed iTunes to no avail.
And NO, I DO NOT use the apple iTunes store for anything, just use iTunes to connect to my iPod Classic, that's all, nothing further!
So don't go trying to sell me something on the iTunes store! NOT INTERESTED!
Why do you people tend to make things more difficult after I finally figured out your last iTunes layout?!
Simple guy non-computer geek here, just your average all-American Joe!
Can someone out there assist? Any way I can return to the previous version? This new version bites! Thanks much!

*Why is artwork not showing on my iPod when it's there in iTunes?*
iTunes will display a cover in many of it's views provided at least one track from the album has embedded artwork. The iPod appears to load only the artwork from track one to create the cover flow and album views which means that it can sometimes fail to display art for albums even when you can see the art in iTunes. Further, when tracks are played on the iPod, artwork is displayed if and only if it exists in the currently playing track, so track one may show art while track two does not.
*How to find tracks without artwork*
To find all the tracks without artwork so that you can update them you can try http://www.stum.de/itunes-find-tracks-without-artwork/ for Windows or http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=trackswithoutartwork for Macs. Use Google, Amazon, Discogs etc. to locate relevant images. Ideally these should be square, 320x320 pixels or above and borderless to give the best results in the various menus. If you have artwork for some tracks of an album, but not others, find the album in the main music folder, select a track with artwork, right-click (Option-Click for Macs) on the art & click copy, then select all the tracks of the album, use CTRL-I or Command-I to *Get Info* and then paste the image into the artwork box.
I say 320x320 because I believe (from using TouchCopy) that it's the size used in the iPod cache so if you're going to crop or resize you might as well work to that size. Otherwise 200x200 is probably good enough. iTunes store art seems to be generally 600x600.
    *Rebuild artwork cache*
Sometimes the artwork cache becomes corrupt and fails to show correct artwork, even when this is properly set up in iTunes. To rebuild the artwork cache, connect your iPod to iTunes. Locate the iPod in the Sources pane on the left-hand side, then select the Music tab. Remove the tick from *Display album artwork on your iPod*, sync the iPod, reselect the option & sync again.

  • Importing from iPod to iTunes and artwork problems

I have lots of albums on my iPod with artwork that display in iTunes, but it doesn't display on the iPod. Is there a minimum resolution for being able to display artwork on the iPod? I like to have the artwork in the MP3 file itself at a low resolution to take up about 20K in each file. Does anyone know what could be causing the problem?
Further, it's irritating that I can't get the ratings I set on the iPod back to iTunes when I do a sync. I'm guessing that the shuffler uses ratings when picking, and I would like to have my ratings survive a sync. I also use ratings to mark songs that I don't really like, so I can move or delete the songs. Is there some setting in iTunes or some program/service that needs to run in order to get a sync to work essentially both ways? (Are these two problems related?)
I appreciate any help that can be offered.
    Eagle Eyes

Not sure about your ratings issue. You are syncing rather than manually managing your music I take it. You might find that a reset helps. In principle the iPod should record play counts, played time & ratings which will then update iTunes when you sync. As for the artwork issues....

  • Album artwork does not sync to iPod

I am hoping somebody has encountered the same and has a solution to the following issue:
I successfully had iTunes 7 automatically download the album artwork for most of the titles in my collection (i.e. those that appear in the iTunes music store). These were all ripped CDs, not purchased songs. I can see the album artwork in iTunes just fine.
However, when I sync my iPod, none of the art is transferred to my device. The only workaround seems to be making a change to the tags - forcing iTunes to recognize the files have changed. However in doing this, it seems my iPod is getting bloated by 1-2MB of artwork files per album. That seems like a lot. Furthermore, re-syncing all 40GB of music with tag changes will take a long time.
Does anybody have a solution as to why the auto-downloaded cover art is not automatically being transferred to my iPod, and in a space-efficient manner?
    Thanks.

I'm having the same problem, and the suggestions here didn't work (other posters have made similar suggestions). Not sure if it's relevant, but all my iPod artwork is manually entered via the "Get Info" function. I didn't have this problem before iTunes 7.

  • Ipod loses artwork from random albums

I have a black 160GB iPod Classic with the 1.1.2 software synced to a Macbook Pro running iTunes 8. All ~60000 tracks in my iTunes library have artwork that I have manually added, and I sync about 9000 of these tracks to the iPod. All the artwork can be seen in list, grid, and cover flow views in iTunes, but after upgrading to iTunes 8 I've noticed that some albums show up with the generic "gray square with a musical note" image on the iPod, suggesting they don't have artwork. After reading through this forum I tried unselecting the "Display album artwork on your iPod" option, syncing the iPod, reselecting the option, and syncing again. While this didn't fix the problem, it did change which albums were missing artwork. Some that had been missing were now back, while others that used to have artwork were now blank. I've also tried rebuilding the iTunes artwork cache by selecting "Get Album Artwork" from the Advanced menu, but this did nothing as far as the iPod is concerned. One other fix I attempted was to switch to manually managing the iPod and delete the ArtworkDB file on the iPod via the terminal. Upon rebuilding the artwork database the iPod still had missing artwork. I've now restored the iPod and am in the process of copying all the files to it anew.
I've seen other posts that relate similar experiences, but haven't noticed any reporting this seemingly random loss of artwork. The issue is specific to the iPod, as iTunes displays all art properly. I've spoken with several friends who have had similar issues since upgrading to iTunes 8. Any hints, or am I stuck waiting for iTunes 8.1?
