Ipod as the musician's friend
I would like to use my ipod to store and display sheet music so I don't have to carry around heavy books with my guitar and ukulele. And I would also like to be able to buy sheet music for individual songs on itunes in a format that is easy to load onto the ipod. Are there some products like this available yet? I know how to store text and pdf fies, but these can't be read like a book on the ipod. Maybe the itunes artists could record a video which feature the sheet music in an easily readable format along with the other videos they make. They could call it the isheet or iTAB version.
I would also like to use the ipod to capture some music (in mp3 or similar format), for later prcessing, when I am stuck at a bus stop or waiting somewhere. Are there any products available for this yet?
Because of the smaller screen on the iPod compared with the iPad, not all apps that rotate on the iPad rotate on the iPod. That is how it works.

As i said up there , i have lost my ipod touch 5th generation today. worst day ever. im 14 and i paid for it with my own money. $317!! i was so proud of myself. so i went to the mall and i put it in a bag and got home and went to the park behind my friend's house. now im not sure if i brought it with me to the park (dont think so) or it fell in my friend's room after i came home from the mall. but i seriously can not find it and im REALLY sad. i have been balling my eyes out throughout the whole day and me and my five friends including my parents and my friends mom have been looking for it. i heard something about telling the police or something and they would help?? i'm not sure about that. cause why would they wanna help a 14 year old girl find an ipod touch when theres other very important matters. Even though this is SUPER important to me, it may not be to them. ik this is all my fault. mother always said "dont leave it in your back pocket" and of course i do while i skateboard. wow. im stupid. i need to gaurd that thing with my life. its very expensive. please help. this ipod is like my life. it was logged onto instagram and facebook and a bunch of social sites. yes, i have a lock on it but cant they go to a store and say "i forgot my password" and they hack into it? i changed my instagram password and apple ID password so far. but i really need to find this ipod. tomorrow im going to the park to look for it in the grass. BLUE. its beautiful. i already broke my 4th gen ipod like 2 times. but thank you for reading all this.. i need help D:- If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.

There is little chance of recovering your iPod. The police will do little. It it is turned then they can contact you. -
I just got an ipod 4th gen from my friend and he said he hasnt used it in awhile and doesnt know the password. So i tried to restore it but i keep getting an error 3194 message and i have no idea what to do. Please Help me!

Go to Settings>Notifications and turn alerts/sounds on for the app(s) in question. Not all apps have all options.

I have a iPod touch 4g,last time when I paired with my friends iPhone it showed his iPhone's name along with devices connected earlier in the bluetooth list after I updated my software to ios 5.1 the names of friends devices appear as D1:FG:12:13:AK something like that and all the other previously connected devices appear in this same form in the bluetooth list how do I fix this back and it is confusing to connect to a device with no name but some unknown Bluetooth address so how do I find the device name back????
SO PLEAZZZZZ HELP!!!!!An iPod can only pair with an iPhone for internet sharing provided that the iPhone has the subscribed to the tethering plan. The BT profiles do not permit file tansfer between IDevices by BT. The only BT pairsin is by app and those ar for peer-to-peer gaming.

I bought my ipod shuffle used from a friend and it isn't recognized in iTunes. I wondered if anyone knew how to reset it to factory settings and for me to be able to use it as my own.

No. The hardware in the fourth-gen iPod touch won't handle iOS 7 or Apple would have released it for your model of iPod. If you want to run iOS 7, you'll need a new iPod.

If you have iTunes 11 on your laptop then you can enable the left-hand sidebar on it via option-command-S on a Mac, control-S on a PC. You should then be able to connect the iPod and it should show on that left-hand sidebar, and underneath it should be a Music section e.g. similar to :
Select that and the music should be shown on the right-hand side of iTunes, which you can then use to delete it.
You should be able to remove all content from the iPod directly on it via Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content And Settings, as any apps etc that are on it will be tied to the previous owner's id - that will also remove any photos from the iPod -

Unfortunately you've discovered too late how important it is to maintain an up-to-date backup of your iTunes library (and all other data of value). You could, before wiping the drive, have considered making use of a commercial data recovery service that could (albeit at considerable cost) have extracted your library from the hard disk, even if virus infected.
In the absence of that option, you will need to restore the content of your library from its original sources:

Likewise, most digital purchases from Amazon (including auto-rip copies of purchased CDs) should be available from the Amazon Cloud and via the Amazon Music application - the same may be true of other commercial sources for digital downloads

The specific situation that you describe regarding the music imported from your friend's external HDD suggests that either the source is badly organized and/or originates from a source other than iTunes (other media players may use alternative tags for information like artist, title, album, etc. that are not wholly consistent with how iTunes handle these). Without details of the issues you're seeing it is difficult to suggest a remedy other than going through the media album-by-album, track-by-track, and correcting the inconsistencies.
In the absence of a backup or access to the original library data there is no option other than painstakingly recreating your library as described above. As you do so, you'll now realize how important creating and maintaining backups are - in my case I have at all times three separate duplicates of my library, in two different locations, where none is ever more than a week old compared to the content of my master library. -

Is there a way to move songs from my iPod to the Library?
I used my friends computer to download some music (I have dial-up) and now I want to copy some of the songs to the library. Is there a way I can do this?
hey i wanted to do that too a while ago and this is what someone told me, hope it works for you. this is also the way to do it without downloading any thing.
The manual way around this problem is to use the iPod in its alter ego - that of portable computer disk drive. Successfully tested under iTunes for Windows 4.2, 4.5, 4.6, 4.7; Windows XP Home.
- Start with the iPod disconnected from the computer - DON'T CONNECT IPOD YET
- open iTunes
- open iTunes Preferences - this blocks iTunes from seeing an iPod connection; leave the preferences window up and running
- connect the iPod to the computer, wait about 15 seconds before continuing
- open 'My Computer'
- Tools menu, Folder Options, View tab, enable 'show hidden files /folders'
- open iPod icon in My Computer
- open iPod_Control folder
- you should see a folder named Music
- drag this folder to somewhere on your computer hard drive
- after the copy completes, right-click the new Music folder on your hard drive and select 'Properties'
- clear the checkmark next to 'Hidden'
- Close that explorer window
- eject iPod from System tray "Safely Remove Hardware" icon. This icon looks like a small gray rectangle with a green arrow floating above it. It's only there when a removable device (like the iPod in this case) is attached to the computer. Right-click & select 'Safely remove..', then click 'Stop' in the next window, OK in the next window, and then Close to complete the ejection.
- disconnect the iPod from the computer
- go back to iTunes, cancel the preferences window
- File menu \ Add folder to Library \ find that Music folder copied over from the iPod
Your iTunes library should be back in action! But wait - there's more!!
Long time forum regular Otto42 has a java script/program that can also retrieve the playlists themselves from the iPod as well. Here are his instructions and a link to the most recent thread discussing this tricky process:
This is really useful when you're pulling all the songs off of an iPod to put them back into iTunes, because you lost your library or anything along those lines. Come up with your own reason for using it.

Now, put the iPod into Disk Mode or otherwise access the iPod as a drive. Make sure you can see hidden files, then go to the drive and the iPod_Control folder and find the iTunesDB file. Copy it to your PC.
Put the copied iTunesDB file in the same directory as this program, then run the program. It'll read the iTunesDB, get all the playlists, and create an XML file for each one. Now just import those XML files into iTunes to recreate the playlists.
Notes:
- The songs in playlist must already be in the iTunes library. If any one of them isn't there, iTunes throws up an error when you try to import the XML file.
- The song names, artist names, and album names in the library all must be identical as to what the iPod has. If you just copied all the music off the iPod and into iTunes, this will be the case, so it's generally not a big deal. but you'll get an error if it can't find the song in the iTunes library, so it's something to keep in mind.
- It probably won't be able to cope with unusual characters in song names. Sorry, not worth my time to fix. Dealing with unicode is way annoying.
- Smart Playlists get changed into regular playlists. It's possible for me to add the smart playlist stuff in there, but it'll take a while to work it all out. -
I just tried to add some music from my sister's iPod into mine and had to update my iTunes because it wouldn't read my iPod unless I did. I just don't know what to do cuz at first all my music was grey after I did this last night. Then I tried to follow the advice on the thread but my iPod is checked with the Manually Manage Music and Videos and I don't know it just doesn't seem to work. Then I clicked the "Restore Backup" and it restored only a portion of my songs- just the one that was on my laptop but none of the music my friend had originally added when he gave me the iPod for Christmas. I'm just so frustrated cuz over 4000+ songs can't be played.
I also tried to go to "On this iPod" to see if the music on my iPod was able to be played on my laptop, but the minutes I clicked out on the songs that were grey on my iPod the music gets this explanation point next to it and doesn't play! WTH!!!
This has never happened before. It always used to be so easy to transfer music to my iPod and now I have this mess in my hands!
Does anyone know how to fix this problem?The iPod backup that iTunes makes does not inlcuded synced media like apps and music. Thes those iTunes are not restored to the iPod unless they are in the iTunes library.
Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

After installing update to iTunes 11, I can not find the devices list nor my ipod on the left side of the music library screen. I also can't find the devices button. Devices is an option under 'File' but it only allows 'transfer purchases to ipod'. Where is the device list located in iTunes 11?
I`m having exactly the same problem!! Updated Friday to the new Itunes 11, which i have to say looks cool but isn`t overly user friendly, and my Iphone 5 is not being recognised. Ran diagnostic tests and i`m getting a red dot next to iphone, ipod etc stating not connected even though it was! I`ve spent all weekend trying to fix the problem and have gone through clearing the temp folder and the device manager, uninstalling and reinstalling itunes but nothing!

i have recently splashed out and bought an ipod video. i was told it is user friendly - but how wrong was that? tried the website but the help is useless to me, then i sent numerous emails to ipod support without response.
i have squillions of problems with this thing, but my main prob at the moment is that i have more than 12000 songs in itunes and the ipod synchronizes each time i connect but i can't get more than 400 songs onto the ipod and the worst thing is most of those songs are crap.
i am really angry with this machine, can anyone help me?
cheers - udoWhen your library is larger than the capacity of your iPod, iTunes by default makes a new playlist called something along the lines of "Owner's iPod" and sets the update option to 'Sync Music - Selected playlists'. It creates a playlist of randomly chosen songs, if you don't like it's choice you can make a playlist of your own to sync from.
Open iTunes and create a playlist to update your iPod from, call it -iPod to make it the first playlist in Sources. Drag whatever content you want to have into the playlist from your iTunes library. Now connect your iPod and when it appears in the Source list click on the iPod icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists radio button. Choose the playlist you just made from the selection and click Apply. You can also sync from any existing playlists by choosing the same setting, you just need to make sure that the size of the playlists don't exceed the capacity of your iPod:

Another option is to manage your iPod manually. In this mode you can drag songs or playlists from your iTunes library directly to the iPod when it's connected:

Something to remember about using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device. One last thing, the advertised song capacity of any of the iPods is a calculation based on 4 minute songs encoded in AAC format at a bit rate of 128 kbps. You need to bear that in mind if you want to get the maximum number on your iPod. Longer songs and songs encoded at a higher bitrate or in uncompressed formats take up more space. If for example you imported full size, uncompressed CD files (AIFF format) you would get significantly fewer on. What format are the songs you have imported? Go to iTunes and right click on one of your songs, choose Get Info>Summary and look at "Kind" to see what format you are using: iTunes: About import settings and hard disk space
