Ipod attempts to play but skips song after song

I'm pretty sure its a 5th gen. ipod. A song title appears and it says for the time 0.00, waits 15-30 seconds, and then skips to the next song. It is as if the iPod tries to play the song, but can't figure out how to do so. It continues to do this and maybe every 10th song plays fine. I've restored it and rebooted it.
Has anyone had this problem and is there something else I can do to get it working correctly?

See if these help.

My ipod and itunes both are skipping to another song about in the middle of the song. It doesn't happen on all songs...only some songs. I have reset the ipod, I have done a restore, I have reloaded itunes, I have updated the ipod but still am unable to figure out why. It did not used to do this. I can't figure out any pattern to the songs it does it on versus that it doesn't do it on. Some of the songs are purchased, some are imported, etc. We are running Windows 7.

how long have you had your ipod? mine did the same but after a while you need to get a new one because of the battery...

  • IPod shuffle wont play but shows up on PC/iTunes....

    Hey Guys,
Recently my iPod Shuffle decided to die and stop working. The battery check button doesnt work (no LED lights up) and it simply wont turn on and play any music.
The most ironic thing is that, when plugged in my PC, Windows XP recognises it. I can see it in My Computer as a Drive, and can put stuff on it like a normal USB drive.
Not only this, but when iTunes is opened (or auto-opens in some cases), it also recognises my iPod Shuffle with all the songs i have on it.
This is the case with all 3 computers ive tried it with: my laptop, my normal PC and my pc at work.
the iPod Shuffle has the latest update and i've restored it numerous times. (yes i restarted the PC before "restoring the iPod Shuffle on all 3 PCs.) Also i have charged the battery (left it in PC for 6hrs) and it hasnt fixed anything. Ive charged it at home and at work.
I cannot figure out what is wrong!
-itunes sees it (with all the songs)
-after restoring it, itunes is able to load songs onto it
-windows sees it as a drive in My Computer
-windows detects it when plugged into PC.
I also had an iPod 4G 20gig that died on me about 2 months ago..
I love my Apple products but when they casue problems i dont like it Can someone help me? I Have also read and followed all the FAQ/articles about the iPod Shuffle in the Support section...and that hasnt helped
BTW: I am still covered under the One Year Warranty. But it seems Apple doesnt warranty iPod Shuffles? AS they expect it not to have so much problems as the iPod (Hard Drive)? I am not sure what to do, and if i was to warranty it i dont know how to approach it!

    Hi Henry,
It is really nice to know you had followed all the trouble shooting steps to resolve the issue with the iPod shuffle.
Since, the iPod shuffle is not charging it needs to be serviced.
    Visit http://depot.info.apple.com/ipodshuffle/
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipodshuffle/service/faq/
Apple will send an replacement iPod shuffle only if this iPod shuffle is within the warranty period.
    Good Luck!!

  • My ipod is on play but its frozen

So my Ipod is not playing, the play arrow in the upper left corner is on but it is not actually playing a song...or any song for that matter. I have tried letting the battery completly die to recharge it, turning it on and off, resetting it but still nothing. I know it's not a complete lost cause because I can still skip to the next song and make my way through the catalog and menu so is there another option maybe I can try?

Have you also tried to use a different set of headphones to make sure your current headset isn't faulty or damaged?  If so, it's likely a hardware issue as a restore would have ruled out any possibility of a software glitch or data corruption. The damage is likely with the logic board and it's audiochip.  You'll need to take or send your iPod in for repair or replacement.  You can have Apple do an out of warranty exchange (since they don't actually repair iPods) or send it to a third party service.

  • My ipod won't play whole albums, just single songs

Every time that I get to the end of a track/podcast, it simply starts from the beginning, rather than moving onto the next item.  What am I doing wrong?

    See if anything here helps.

  • I am trying to transfer songs from my ipod to my iphone but it says the songs can not be found on the ipod but I can play them on the ipod.

The iTunes library says I do not own them and they can not be found on my iPod. But I can still see and play the songs on the ipod. But when I try to sync them they do not appear.

It is not possible to sync music directly between an iPod and an iPhone. The music must be in an iTunes library and that must be used to sync the music to each device.

  • TS1362 Song I purchased won't play all the way through, but skips to next song

I purchased a song that is 5:48 but it will only play 1:28 of it. It then just skips to the next song. If i move the toggle to say the 3:00 mark, it automatically skips to the next song.
    Help!
btw...all other songs purchased at the time are playing just fine and have also synced with my device just fine. it seems there is something wrong with just this one.

Solved (copy and pasted from my post) For others having this problem, delete the songs you have just purchased from itunes. Then, go to the store and in quick links click on "Purchased". Then find on the top right "Songs not on this computer" (or something similar) and you will find them for download. It's best to download them one at a time and wait for one to complete before moving on to the next one.

  • Bug in newest version of iTunes: last played data not updating after songs are played

I just downloaded the newest version of iTunes on my Mac. The "last played" data is not updating automatically after a song has finished playing (even after waiting for a while). Sometimes in the older versions it would take 5-10 second for the data to update automatically, but even after several minutes, "last played" still shows as if the song had not just been played.

    RestonMacGuy wrote:
I did something similar, but not the same: I "played" a few tracks from the iPod (fast-forwarding until about 30 seconds from the end) while the Shuffle was connected to my computer and in iTunes, which then caused the "Last Played" field to be updated.
The next time I connected my Shuffle, the Last Played values were updated.
I bet the Last Played was updated after you stopped playing the tracks...IN FACT. if you were watching your shuffle icon, you might have noticed the rotating thingy to the left of the eject symbol, meaning an update was ongoing.
This will happen AS LONG AS the track has "remember playback position" set.

  • Song doesn't play and skips to next song

I downloaded a song onto my Ipod from my computer and it plays perfectly on my computer but when I try to play it on my Ipod, it doesn't work and just skips straight to the next song on the playlist. I already tried to add it again but it still doesn't work. What should I do?

Have you tried resetting your iPod?
Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the
Home button for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • New Ipod Nano on Itunes but won't import songs

I just plugged my son's brand new Ipod Nano into Itunes and it appeared on the left side as David's Ipod but when I went to import songs from my library it won't allow me to do it. It has a circle with a line through it anytime I attempt to drag a song on to it. I have two other Ipods (nano and mini) and never had this happen. I installed the software that came with it before this happened. It also says something like Ipod can't be upgraded because playlists no longer exist...When I first plugged it in the Itunes said that the library was too large for the nano and that it could select the songs for me. When I said yes it started downloading all these songs from the library (songs my son didn't want). I managed to stop it by having everything deleted off the nano but now I can't import anything. Help!!! Thanks

I actually have the windows XP and not ME if that makes a difference

  • How to play entire CD, song after song rather than selecting each song

Any clue on how to basically check the box by each song so they play in succession. Currently I have to hit play after each song finishes. It used to work but no longer. Any thoughts?

Somehow everything was always checked before, a default if you will and even holding down the ctrl key and checking seems like a lot of extra work.

  • Ipod mini not playing but scanning playlist

My ipod mini will not play the songs, but will scan the playlists and show song titles when I hit play until it gets to the last song. I don't know what to do, I called Apple and was told the next available service consultant would be a 15 minute wait.

My iPod mini does this also. The strangest thing is that it will play everything that was NOT purchased from the apple music on-line store. All the music in my iTunes that originated from CDs, studio files, etc. will play just fine. If I have a play list that has Apple store music mixed with CD music it will scan past the Apple songs and stop and play all other songs. I have taken my iPod into the apple store twice and they updated the software, then erased my iPod lists and personal settings. Both times I took it home and restored my iTunes on to my iPod. Both times this corrected the problem for only one day (one time playing through the entire playlist) then the original problem returned. This first happened when my iPod mini was 1 month out of warranty Soooo frustrating.

  • HELP ! Ipod froze while syncing so I unplugged. Now not showing any music on Ipod or in Itunes but will show the songs in my ipod control

So basicly I was trying to figure out on how to get all my album art back on my 160gb Ipod Classic. It showed in itunes but not on my ipod. My cover flow was full of Question marks. Having 140gb of music ir was fustrating manually putting it back on to each album. This happened a few months ago. So the 5 or 6gb of new music i put on since this happened is on my Ipod and show in my coverflow on my Ipod.
It came to a point where i had to leave my computer and noticed that my ipod was still in a synchnnizing stage and seemed like it was frozen. Having to leave the computer I had to unplug the ipod. By doing so, when i turned it on it said that i had no songs on my Ipod. When plugged into my itunes it also says no songs but at the bottom of the itunes screen it shows there is 140gb of "other Information" with 1.5 gb remaining but not music. I can see all the songs in my Edrive>al's Ipod> Ipod Control> Music folder. I have had a few different computers since this new ipod has music from ages ago from an old 30gb classic and have transfered over the years on multiple computers (so restoring or syncing to this computer is out of the question). Thus all the ratings and playlist are very dear to me. Hundreds of hours invested in this ipod OVER 6 Years. It seems like there is some file missing or needed to link everything together.
I have spent endless hours trying many diffferent aproches. Like one forum said go into AL'S IPOD>IPOD CONTROL>ITUNES.. when in there they said to look for a file called ITunesDB and another called ITunesD8.old and switch them and rename ITunesD8.old_mlpmp but i only have the ituned DB not the ItunesDB.old
    I also tried
Also when i plug in my ipod a notice in windows says "DO YOU WANT TO SCAN AND FIX E>AL'S IPOD
There might be a problem with some files on this device or disc. This can happen if you
remove the device or disc before all files have been writen to it
                                                                                          SCAN AND FIX (RECOMMENDED)
this will prevent future problems when copying files to this device or disc
                                                                                                               OR
                                                                                                CONTINUE WITHOUT SCANNING
So i figure the problem started when i went into my control panel and chose show all hidden files so i can look at my files in the Ipod_control and was fooling around with the preference area by selecting the read only icon and disabling the hidden icon. I tried reversing this before ejecting my ipod but it was stuck in the Synchronizing do not disconnect mode and would not eject. Everytime i did try to eject it said in itunes with a yellow triangle saying " files or folders are in use in another area and cannot eject" even tho everyting has been closed......
ANY IDEAS ON HOW TO FIX??????? THANKS FOR YOUR TIME

A bit confused by your statement

. I do not understand why the music is clearly on the Ipod but wont reconize it anywhere.
Are you seeing your music listed in the iPod screen, or in Win explorer as in your earlier post?
I can see all the songs in my Edrive>al's Ipod> Ipod Control> Music folder.
A corrupted iPod database, will report zero music used, and have your music size reported as others, so you wont see the music in the iPod screen. Sorry, I thought there was some hope for you with iPodAccess, in recovery of the corrupted iPod database with your ratings.
You can try to borrow and  use the Mac Disk Utility ->First Aid ->Repair.
Of course, if your iPod Hardisk is in a bad state, from the Disk Diagnostic report, then all my suggestion are futile.
