IPod automatically disconnecting

Hi, I am trying to update my iPod to my Macbook but every time I plug it in it automatically disconnects.  Any one know this happens?

Try this:
Connect your iPod and in iTunes go to Preferences>iPod. Under the Music tab if you have your iPod set to automatically sync with iTunes see if you also have a tick in the box marked “enable disk use". Remove this tick and your iPod should automatically disconnect after it’s finished updating.

after my ipod updates, it automatically disconnects and disappears from my desktop. is there anyway to change it? i use a scrobbling program that needs to see the ipod to work, and the ipod automatically disconnects everytime it updates, OR everytime i plug the ipod in, itunes opens and automatically updates.
i know i could do manual updates but i don't really want to risk messing anything up.
    any ideas?
    thanks

Enable it for disk use and it will stay mounted until you manually eject it. Connect the iPod and go to iTunes>Preferences>iPod>Music tab, you'll find the radio button for disk use in there.

  • IPod automatically disconnects itself within 5-10 seconds.

    Hi All,
I've been having some problems connecting my 5th Gen iPod to my new MackBook Pro. The iPod was synced to my old MacBook (I think it was the first black MacBook model) and worked perfectly fine. When I tried connecting it to my Pro for the first time everything went swell until about 500 songs in when the iPod suddenly disconnected (with the error message asking me to eject before disconnecting). I could no longer see it in iTunes and it returned to the state where it's not plugged in and not charging. I reconnected it and tried again and it happened a lot sooner. After trying multiple times, the time it takes for the iPod to automatically disconnect itself is about 5 to 10 seconds.
I've tried multiple cords and have connected the iPod to multiple computers, which leads me to believe that it's a problem with the iPod and not the computer or the cord. I've restarted the computers, restarted the iPod, attempted to restore the iPod (but it doesn't last long enough in the dock for it to work) and played around with the disk mode setting in iTunes. The only thing I have running when I attempt to connect is iTunes. Also, I was able to synced my iPhone to iTunes with no problem at all.
    Any suggestions? Thanks!

You get 90 days of free phone support after that there is a charge.
From your description your iPod may have developed a hardware problem and need to be fixed. If you bought it it August it is still under warranty so repair would be covered.
You could try some troubleshooting suggestions.
Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings to see if that helps.
Turn your iPod off and restart it (press on/off button for 5 seconds or so until power off indicator appears).
Reset your iPod (press on/off button and home button simultaneously for 10 seconds or so until the Apple logo appears).
If none of this helps you can try doing a restore on your iPod (make sure you have a backup). See iTunes to do this.
    Good luck.

P.S If I dnt open Itunes, it remains connected to PC

there are quite a few responses to that question, but I've tried all the ones I've found and none have worked for me so I won't recommend any of them as I don't want to waste your time, it seems that its a problem with the latest version of the ipod software, ver 1.3, but I'm not even certain of that, sorry not to be more helpful

  • Ipod automatically disconnects every time I plug it in

    Help!

When this happened to me, I was using a mains-powered USB hub that I forgot to turn on. Even when the hub was already drawing power from the pc via its USB connection to the PC, it was insufficient and needed to be plugged into the mains power supply. And, I had to disconnect all other USB devices (except mouse/keyboard).

  • [Work around] iPod Classic automatically disconnects when open itunes (PC Windows Vista)

    I have a:
    iPod Classic 120GB
    HP Pavilion Laptop
    iTunes 10 (latest)
    Windows Vista OS (32-bit)
    THE PROBLEM
I connect my iPod to my laptop with a working usb cable. The computer recognises the iPod as is shows up as a drive in "My Computer". But as soon as I open iTunes program, iTunes recognises the iPod for a few seconds, then automatically disconnects from the program and the computer.
Only after updating my iTunes to 10 have I encountered this problem.
I have tried all the suggestions on the apple forums and others to no avail.
    THE WORK-AROUND
Calling this a work around simply because it is definately not a solution. and developers should really get off their backsides and fix this bug.concerning the problem of iPods (particular the older models) automatically disconnecting.
When connecting the iPod to the computer (NOT IN ITUNES), open the iPod drive through "My Computer", keep that window open as a folder, then proceed to run iTunes. This should allow you to use iPod through iTunes as normal.
NOTE: this is not a superfix and may not work for everyone, but it won't hurt to try. for more drastic but permanant solution, switching to 3rd party software might be for you. I have tried Songbird and had no problems link: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/29716/heres-five-alternatives-to-itunes-10-for-ea sily-managing-your-ipod/
    Hope this helps. Peace

I'll give this a shot, thank you for posting. I don't want to say I'm glad it's a bug but it's better then two brand new ipods in 10 days being crap.

  • Automatically Disconnect your iPod?

When I first got my Nano, I swear that it disconnected automatically after updating, but still continued to charge. It no longer does that. I now have to eject it. When my niece plugs her Nano in, it disconnectes automatically. What setting do I need to change to get it to automatically disconnect again?
I tried searching, but I'm not sure on the correct wording, so it came up with a lot of unrelated threads.
Thanks for your help and sorry if this is a re-post!

fist, when the ipod is connected, it is always
charging, the ipod just dosent display the charge
when it is being updated. what has happend mos likely
is that in the ipod options enable disk use is
checked. if it is uncheck it.
if not, its a windows problem. you see windows has
issues being bossed around by itunes and likes to
view the ipod. it is safe to turn off the computer,
and while its off disconnect the ipod and try again
when the computer is back on. if itunes syas at the
top ipod update is complete ok to disconnect, you may
remove it and plug it back in, regardless of what the
ipod is saying on the screen.

    That did it. Thanks!

  • IPOD NANO Automatically Disconnects

I have 3 IPOD's a 40gb 4th gen, a MINI and a NANO. Songs from ITUNES transfer to the older IPOD's Fine but when I try to transfer to the NANO it automatically disconnects.
    I am using:
    ITUNES 7.0.2.16
    IPOD ver 1.1.1
I have Tried Reset and Restore on the NANO and then I can transfer some Songs but then the problem rreturns. I am only trying to download about 18 songs and have even tried to do 1 at a time. Any Suggestions?
IPOD NANO (2nd gen) 8gb   Windows XP Pro   2gbRam

Ok, so I reset it while connecting to the PC. There's such a hassle of using the "Safely Remove Hardware" to 'stop' the iPod. I downloaded the latest iPod updater and reformatted the nano. Apparently there was an update sometime early last month. So I had to reformat, but it still automatically disconnected somewhere around song # 300, and this iPod had nothing else on it. I uploaded songs 50-100 at a time, and it seems to be ok since. Whew!
It seems there's a lot of trial and error on having to restart the computer, reformat the iPod, etc. I also find it helpful to go into SAFE MODE on your Windows XP PC and go into Windows/Temp and delete all these little files that pile up from somewhere. I've never been able to delete them as a logged-in user, so SAFE MODE is the only way to do it.

  • My ipod nano disconnects automatically!!!

My ipod nano disconnects itself from my computer automatically then when it re-appears on my itunes it has reset itself?!? HELP!!

i've had the exact same problem with my ipod nano on and off for the last few months! i just keep restoring it and putting everything back on whenever it happens, but i'm getting pretty fed up and am thinking of trying to get it replaced. if your nano's still disconnecting unexpectedly, make sure you back everything up (if you aren't already). i've also found that having duplicates of all your playlists in itunes really saves time when you're putting all the music back after the nano resets itself, because you can just click and drag the playlist onto the ipod, and then all the music is there in the order you want. apart from that, if you're thinking of getting it replaced, make sure you send it in within 180 days of buying it or else major shipping and handling fees kick in!
    good luck!

  • IPod Class Automatically Disconnecting While Synching

Ok I managed to solve my previous problem and now when while I'm synching my music onto the iPod,it automatically disconnects causing the whole sync to completely stop.Any idea why ?

Hmm. Well, since the problem happens on both computers, the problem more than likely lies with the iPod itself. The iPod's software may have become corrupt in some way and may need to be restore via iTunes. Keep in mind that restoring will erase all the music and files from your iPod so make sure they are backed up on at least one of your computers. However, that is not a guaranteed fix and I don't think you really feel like reloading all 105 GB of music on it.
Maybe try manually putting the iPod into Disk Mode while connected and see if that helps the iPod stay connected and mounted properly.

Other than that, I don't know of any other way to handle this situation and am out of ideas or potential solutions. Maybe try completely uninstalling iTunes and then re-installing. (There is a link right that the beginning of the document if you have Vista)

  • ITunes automatically disconnects after updating

Hi I just got a 60GB video iPod and before I had it set to not update any videos and so it would update all my songs and then just stay connected. It would say "iPod update is complete" or whatever the message is, and on the desktop I could still see the iPod icon.
However, recently I decided to update my videos and clicked on "Automatically update all videos" and so it updated my videos and they're successfully on my iPod, but the minute it updates it automatically disconnects from my computer, the icon disappears from the desktop, and you can use the iPod (scroll, listen to songs, etc.) even though it's still plugged into my computer. Also, iTunes doesn't seem to register that it's been disconnected because it still acts like it's there with the whole "Your iPod" and the greyed song titles and all, and I have to "eject the iPod" for iTunes to go back to normal as though it's not connected.
Now, my question is: is this normal? Should iTunes be automatically disconnecting but still not registering this? Could this be because I tried to plug my iPod nano in before I tried to update my iPod video and now my computer is confused about things? Sorry if this is a really stupid question; I just got the MacBook Pro and this is my first ever Apple computer so I'm a little lost, but thanks to anyone who replies to this!! I truly appreciate your efforts

Grey text when you look at the content and lock symbol at the bottom of the screen simply shows that your iPod is set to "automatically update songs and playlists". . If you want to access your iPod directly, play it through your iTunes, connect it to a second computer etc. you just need to change the update method to "Manually manage songs and Playlists" in the iPod preferences. For more detail see this tutorial: Managing Your Songs Manually
The automatic disconnect is also normal in this mode. You can either enable your iPod for disc use or if you change to manually updating this will be enabled by default. In either of these cases it will remain mounted and has to be manually ejected before the "Do Not Disconnect" message will go away.Safely disconnect iPod

  • I accidently pulled the cable out when syncing. Now my ipod automatically restarts after a few seconds. What do I do?

    Please help
I accidently pulled the cable out when syncing. Now my ipod automatically restarts. What do i do?

OK, in that case a restore should fix things:
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPod touch, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release only the Sleep/Wake button.
Continue pressing and holding the Home button while you reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
Note: If you see the "low battery" screen, let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then start with step 2 again.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears (iTunes icon and USB connector) release the Home button.
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the "recovery mode" alert ("iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode").
Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you do not see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.

  • 80 Gig - Automatically disconnects after update

I have tried to search for this query but cannot find one like it, hence a new post but soory it is a duplicate.
I am running iTunes 7.02.16 and my iPod is an 80 gig with 1.2.1 firmware. it is set to sync automatically upon connection with itunes.
Q - for some reason my iPod has started to automatically disconnect when it has completed it's update. I have to reconnect to alter settings or change preferences on the iPod.
No other obvious problems. and I have tried the usual resets except the iPod restore.
Help and advice much appreciated. Thanks.
    80 gig video   Windows XP

It will stay connected after sync if you enable disk use in the ipod settings on itunes. This means you'll have to manually eject it when you want to disconnect it.

  • Re-Mount iPod after disconnect?

I am using iPod notes for some files. When I load the files on to the iPod, I connect the iPod and then transfer the files.
Now, in order to read the files on the iPod (testing links etc.) I must eject the iPod.
I can then either disconnect the USB cable, or just use the iPod with the USB cable connected. If I find errors in the content that I did not see when editing (link problems etc.) I must make the chages in a text editor and then reconnect (or disconnect and reconnect) the iPod USB cable and transfer files.
This is as it should be.
    However, I was wondering...
Is there a way to remount the iPod without disconnecting the USB cable and reconnecting?
    Using 5G iPod, iMac G5, OS X 10.4.2
    Any replies much appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hello Andy,
Not sure if this works for anything other than an iPod that's in automatic update and not in disk mode. However if I eject the my iPod and then close down iTunes but keep the cable connected, when I start iTunes up again the iPod remounts. As I say not sure if this will help but you can give it a try.
