IPod automatically disconnects itself within 5-10 seconds.

Hi All,
I've been having some problems connecting my 5th Gen iPod to my new MackBook Pro. The iPod was synced to my old MacBook (I think it was the first black MacBook model) and worked perfectly fine. When I tried connecting it to my Pro for the first time everything went swell until about 500 songs in when the iPod suddenly disconnected (with the error message asking me to eject before disconnecting). I could no longer see it in iTunes and it returned to the state where it's not plugged in and not charging. I reconnected it and tried again and it happened a lot sooner. After trying multiple times, the time it takes for the iPod to automatically disconnect itself is about 5 to 10 seconds.
I've tried multiple cords and have connected the iPod to multiple computers, which leads me to believe that it's a problem with the iPod and not the computer or the cord. I've restarted the computers, restarted the iPod, attempted to restore the iPod (but it doesn't last long enough in the dock for it to work) and played around with the disk mode setting in iTunes. The only thing I have running when I attempt to connect is iTunes. Also, I was able to synced my iPhone to iTunes with no problem at all.
Any suggestions? Thanks!

You get 90 days of free phone support after that there is a charge.
From your description your iPod may have developed a hardware problem and need to be fixed. If you bought it it August it is still under warranty so repair would be covered.
You could try some troubleshooting suggestions.
Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings to see if that helps.
Turn your iPod off and restart it (press on/off button for 5 seconds or so until power off indicator appears).
Reset your iPod (press on/off button and home button simultaneously for 10 seconds or so until the Apple logo appears).
If none of this helps you can try doing a restore on your iPod (make sure you have a backup). See iTunes to do this.
Good luck.

  • Ipod automatically disconnects

after my ipod updates, it automatically disconnects and disappears from my desktop. is there anyway to change it? i use a scrobbling program that needs to see the ipod to work, and the ipod automatically disconnects everytime it updates, OR everytime i plug the ipod in, itunes opens and automatically updates.
i know i could do manual updates but i don't really want to risk messing anything up.
    any ideas?
    thanks

Enable it for disk use and it will stay mounted until you manually eject it. Connect the iPod and go to iTunes>Preferences>iPod>Music tab, you'll find the radio button for disk use in there.

  • IPod automatically disconnecting

Hi, I am trying to update my iPod to my Macbook but every time I plug it in it automatically disconnects.  Any one know this happens?

    Try this:
Connect your iPod and in iTunes go to Preferences>iPod. Under the Music tab if you have your iPod set to automatically sync with iTunes see if you also have a tick in the box marked “enable disk use". Remove this tick and your iPod should automatically disconnect after it’s finished updating.

  • IPod Touch disconnects after only a few seconds

I just bought a iPod Touch yesterday and updated it with the new January software upgrade (Apple Mobile Device 1.1.3.26).
My PC has WinXP Pro with SP 2, iTunes 7.6.0.29 and QuickTime 7.4 installed. I have reinstalled both iTunes and Quicktime in an attempt to resolve this problem.
The problem is that after successfully copying around 10 to 40 songs the device disconnects and the following 2 errors show up:
First error: "The iPod "X" cannot be synced. The disk could not be read from or written to."
Second error: "Attempting to copy to the disk "X" failed. The disk could not be read from or written to."
I have restored the iPod Touch to the original settings to see if there was a problem with the device but the issue persists.
I also ran the iPod/iPhone Connectivity Tests from iTunes, the results are below:

I have also tried using 2 separate USB 2.0 connections on the PC and the results are the same.
Finally I have an original iPod Nano that syncs fine with the current PC I am using.
I would really like to get this thing working, please help!

I'm not sure getting a Mac will solve this issue. The number of people having similar issues on Macs appears proportionately in line with Win users. Having said that, a switch will certainly result in a more pleasant and vastly more efficient user experience.
If you can get your hands on another usb/iPod cable, you might give it a try. Of the 4 usb/iPod cables in this house, only one is capable of getting my Touch recognized by my G4. To get that one to work it has to go in with a scraping sound/feel to it.
Make sure your drives don't fall asleep. This will generate the error messages you are getting. Though it strikes me as bizarre, I've noted that the sync and update process does not prevent my drives going into sleep mode. When that happens I get either of the error messages you got.
Most important in my case was there were image files that, although worked fine in iPhoto, Graphic Converter and Elements, would consistently cause an aborted sync. I batch resaved about 6,000 image files and have had no syncing problems since then.
I solved connection problems by simply plugging and unplugging the iPod end of the cable until it connects.

  • Ipod shuffle disconnects itself

My Ipod shuffle which I got about a year ago will not work in my computer. Every time I put it in it makes a connection sound and then a disconnection sound. it does this over and over again but not at any regular rate just at random. Itunes tells me to restore the ipod but every time we try that it doesn't work and it comes up "unknown error 1429" or "unknown error 1415" which says that the ipod is corrupted. My other ipod works fine with the computer and it is a nano. the shuffle used to be synced to a different computer when we connected it itunes tried to reset and resync it and this all started.

    Hi-
I'm having the same problem, although the ipod shuffle is brand new and has only been used on my laptop. I've tried it on all three of my computer's USB ports but have the problem with each. I did once solve the problem temporariy by uninstalling and reinstalling itunes 7.7, but didn't work a second time.
Maybe my USB ports aren't powerful enough? Thoughts? My HP laptop is about 5 years old.
Sure is frustrating. Would love to add more songs from my itunes library.
    Thanks.

  • IPOD automatically Disconnects after Sync in ITUNES7.6

When I connect ma IPOD, Itunes syunchronise it & then it automaticaaly disconnest(IPOD) Itunes cant find it anymore & thus I am unable to upload any more videos or songs on it:( what is the problem wit ma IPOD y is it automattically Disconnects(IPOD DISPLAY says ejecting & then comes OK to discoonect, happen only when I open Itunes).Hav got Itunes 7.6.
P.S If I dnt open Itunes, it remains connected to PC

there are quite a few responses to that question, but I've tried all the ones I've found and none have worked for me so I won't recommend any of them as I don't want to waste your time, it seems that its a problem with the latest version of the ipod software, ver 1.3, but I'm not even certain of that, sorry not to be more helpful

  • Why does my ipod automatically reset itself when im listening to it?!

You could reset iPod when scrolling trough songs very quickly, you might have pressed -MENY- by mistake while scrolling. Do not give Your iPod too much commands in same time, i'd bug myself if somebody push me round too much. It's a good machine but do not over do it.
    Hope this helped

  • Ipod automatically disconnects every time I plug it in

    Help!

When this happened to me, I was using a mains-powered USB hub that I forgot to turn on. Even when the hub was already drawing power from the pc via its USB connection to the PC, it was insufficient and needed to be plugged into the mains power supply. And, I had to disconnect all other USB devices (except mouse/keyboard).

  • My ipod nano disconnects automatically!!!

My ipod nano disconnects itself from my computer automatically then when it re-appears on my itunes it has reset itself?!? HELP!!

i've had the exact same problem with my ipod nano on and off for the last few months! i just keep restoring it and putting everything back on whenever it happens, but i'm getting pretty fed up and am thinking of trying to get it replaced. if your nano's still disconnecting unexpectedly, make sure you back everything up (if you aren't already). i've also found that having duplicates of all your playlists in itunes really saves time when you're putting all the music back after the nano resets itself, because you can just click and drag the playlist onto the ipod, and then all the music is there in the order you want. apart from that, if you're thinking of getting it replaced, make sure you send it in within 180 days of buying it or else major shipping and handling fees kick in!
    good luck!

  • Ahh, my new iPod Nano automatically ejects and disconnects itself, Help!

I brought a iPod Nano just a few days ago, and when I got home I managed to Sync a bunch of songs onto it. However, now when I try to sync movies, music, pictures, whatever onto it, the iPod ejects itself before I have to chance to do anything!
I've tried re-installing iTunes, it didn't seem to change anything.
I have tried updating the iPod software, but it doesn't work.
Also I have read other tips from other people who have had the same problem. Nothing they have suggested has worked.
    Help!

I'm having a similar and very frustrating problem. I originally synced my new iPod nano onto my MacBook Pro (OS X version 10.5.1), and had no problems. The frustrations began when I tried to transfer a few files from my old Windows computer; a window popped up and indicates that I have to reformat my iPod before it can be used (even when just transferring files).
Now, when I go to use it on my MacBook Pro, the iPod momentarily connects itself but then ejects itself almost immediately. The computer won't seem to read that it's connected and the iPod reverts to charging itself (it's fully charged).
I reset my iPod, I reinstalled the latest version of iTunes, I restarted my computer, I restored my iPod to its original settings... nothing seems to help at all.
    Why is this happening???

  • [Work around] iPod Classic automatically disconnects when open itunes (PC Windows Vista)

    I have a:
    iPod Classic 120GB
    HP Pavilion Laptop
    iTunes 10 (latest)
    Windows Vista OS (32-bit)
    THE PROBLEM
I connect my iPod to my laptop with a working usb cable. The computer recognises the iPod as is shows up as a drive in "My Computer". But as soon as I open iTunes program, iTunes recognises the iPod for a few seconds, then automatically disconnects from the program and the computer.
Only after updating my iTunes to 10 have I encountered this problem.
I have tried all the suggestions on the apple forums and others to no avail.
    THE WORK-AROUND
Calling this a work around simply because it is definately not a solution. and developers should really get off their backsides and fix this bug.concerning the problem of iPods (particular the older models) automatically disconnecting.
When connecting the iPod to the computer (NOT IN ITUNES), open the iPod drive through "My Computer", keep that window open as a folder, then proceed to run iTunes. This should allow you to use iPod through iTunes as normal.
NOTE: this is not a superfix and may not work for everyone, but it won't hurt to try. for more drastic but permanant solution, switching to 3rd party software might be for you. I have tried Songbird and had no problems link: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/29716/heres-five-alternatives-to-itunes-10-for-ea sily-managing-your-ipod/
    Hope this helps. Peace

I'll give this a shot, thank you for posting. I don't want to say I'm glad it's a bug but it's better then two brand new ipods in 10 days being crap.

  • I accidently pulled the cable out when syncing. Now my ipod automatically restarts after a few seconds. What do I do?

    Please help
I accidently pulled the cable out when syncing. Now my ipod automatically restarts. What do i do?

OK, in that case a restore should fix things:
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPod touch, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release only the Sleep/Wake button.
Continue pressing and holding the Home button while you reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
Note: If you see the "low battery" screen, let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then start with step 2 again.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears (iTunes icon and USB connector) release the Home button.
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the "recovery mode" alert ("iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode").
Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you do not see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.

  • IPod Classic immediately disconnects itself

I have owned my iPod for not even a year, and I have not done anything to it to cause disruption or error or anything of the sort. Yet when I plug it into my Macbook to sync (or any other iMac or Macbook, checked with multiple cords as well), it will immediately disconnect itself. It is not recognised by my computer, iTunes does not automatically open, it does not charge and I am unable to even reset it to factory settings as I can't access it at all. I am rather frustrated that this is happening to a new device. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hey DaDann,
Thanks for the question, that definitely sounds frustrating. The following resource(s) outlines relevant troubleshooting for this issue, it may provide a solution based on your operating system:
