IPod automatically syncing/downloading songs/apps???

My daughters ipod touch is downloading anything that is purchased on itunes... apps/songs/etc.
For example, yesterday I bought one app, downloaded a free app on my iPhone and bought a song and last night she had both apps and the song on her ipod and she was somewhere else just on a random wireless network and it downloaded to her ipod...
Why?
And how do I stop it?

You can set Restrictions on her iPod that will prevent her from using the App store, iTunes and some other things.  For more information see:
iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch: Understanding Restrictions
Just note that she can get around that by connecting the iPod to a computer and restoring the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod.

If you transfer any iTunes content to the iPhone from an iTunes library on another computer, all iTunes content on the iPhone will be erased first with a warning message provided indicating this beforehand.
Authorize the different computer with your Apple ID with iTunes. With your iPhone connected and without syncing, right click on the iPhone under Devices in the iTunes source list and at the menu window that appears, select Transfer Purchases. This will transfer all apps on your iPhone to the iTunes library.

  • ITunes says my iPod is synced but songs are not appearing.

I had to start all over with my iPod because all of my files were erased. I downloaded a bunch of new songs and videos and when I sync my iPod, a message appears saying that three of the files cannot be copied. I used to get that before too, so no big deal. But when I look on my iPod, the songs are not there. It is not telling me that it cannot be synced and the bar at the bottom of the preferences page or w/e says that I have 1.60 GB of music, 795.1 MB of video, and 25.42 MB of 'other'. I have already authorized this computer. Why won't it sync properly?

iTunes can "sync" an iPod, and not transfer any songs.  You may need to set up or update automatic syncing in iTunes for the iPod.  Otherwise, syncing may sync nothing.
First, if the iTunes sidebar (along left side of window) is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  When connected, the iPod appears in the sidebar, under DEVICES.
Second, when you set up automatic syncing, the iPod's existing content is replaced.  Any songs on the iPod that are not in your iTunes library will be lost.  Is that OK?  If that's a problem, please post back.
Select the iPod in the iTunes sidebar.  To the right, the iPod's Summary screen is shown.  Toward the top, there is a bar of buttons starting with Summary.  Click on Music next to Summary.  This Music screen is where you tell iTunes how to sync songs to the iPod.
Check the box for Sync Music.  This setting enables automatic syncing.  If your iTunes music library can fit on the iPod, you can choose to sync Entire music library.  Then, "everything" (that is music) syncs to the iPod when you click Apply.  Going forward, any changes to the music library sync automatically to the iPod, at the next opportunity.
Otherwise, you can choose to sync Selected playlist, artists, albums, and genres.  Then, select (checkmark) what you want on the iPod from the lists below.  For example, you can have playlists in your iTunes library with songs you want on the iPod.  On the iPod's Music screen, select those playlists under Playlists.  When you click Apply, the songs in your selections sync to the iPod.  Going forward, to update your iPod, update those playlists in your iTunes library (add/remove songs).  The iPod does not need to be connected.  The next time the iPod is connected (or when you click Sync if already connected), iTunes updates the iPod with the same changes automatically.

  • My ipod touch will download songs from itunes, but has issues with songs from my CD's.The songs show up on my ipod

My ipod downloads songs from itunes and plays them just fine. However, when I added my songs from my CD's to it, they downloaded but don't play like they should. They either don't play at all or randomly play in the middle of the song. It has nothing to do with the start time either because they all say that they start at 0.00. I synced the CD's correctlly, so that is not the issue. The songs from the CD's never start playing when I choose them. What can I do to fix this issue?

  • My classic iPod is syncing all songs instead of just the ones checked

my iPod classic is syncing all songs from library rather than just the ones checked and is not giving me the pull-up screen to make this change

To stop it from syncing automatically when you plug it in, in iTunes, choose Edit > Preferences. Click Devices. Select “Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically.”
If you click on your device name (from the left side menu) you can check "manually manage music".
You can choose what to sync with that selected .

  • IPod automatically syncs....HELP!!

My computer recently broke and I have all of my 5000 songs from that computer on my iPod. (5th Gen. 80G) Now I would like to update my iPod with songs from my new computer; but when I tried this before my computer crashed, it deleted all of my songs on the iPod and then Synced all of the songs from the new computer to the iPod. I now know how to manually Sync songs but I'm afraid that I will lose all of my 5000 songs. When I hook up my iPod I'm sure it is set to automatically Sync. What do I do...how do I know? Please help ASAP!!

To prevent auto sync, connect the iPod whilst holding down the 'control+shift' keys and do not let them go until your iPod appears in iTunes.
If you see a message that your iPod is associated with a different library and asks if you want to link to new one, make sure you press "Cancel".
If you should click on "Erase and Sync" will erase all the songs currently on your iPod and replace them with the iPod you just connected to.
Then do any of the following to transfer your music from iPod back to the computer/iTunes.
For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
Find out how to do that here.
How to copy iTunes purchases from an iPod or iPhone to a computer.
For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Other free programs are Pod Player, SharePod and Floola and iDump.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

  • IPod automatically syncs to computer.

I recently restored my iPod, and when I plugged it back in to my computer, it automatically synced to ALL of the music on my iTunes. I want to be able to pick and choose what goes on my iPod, but they song names and artists are all in that faded grey color that you can't click on.
Someone help! It's driving me CRAZY.

Grey text when you look at the content and a lock symbol at the bottom of the screen just indicates that the iPod is set to sync automatically with iTunes. If you want to play the iPod songs through iTunes, delete songs from the iPod, drag songs from iTunes, add playlists to the iPod etc. you need to change the update setting to "manually manage songs and videos". The text will change from grey to black and everything will be directly accessible through iTunes:

Something to remember about using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • My ipod won't download songs!!!

    please help me!
whenever i connect my ipod, it charges, but it won't load songs i recently added! what do i do????????

Check your update settings. Connect your iPod and click on it's icon in the iTunes source list (the narrow pane on the left). This will bring up the preferences tabs in the main pane on the right. The first tab you'll see is Summary, look for "manually manage songs and videos", if there is a check mark there then the iPod is set to update manually and you have to drag songs from the iTunes library to the iPod to load them on. If you want to update automatically you need to remove the check mark from there (I would also remove the "enable disk use" check mark unless you want to use the iPod as a removable storage device) and click the Apply button in the right hand corner:

  • HT1459 iTunes will not recognize iPod for syncing, downloading versions, etc?

I am attempting to connect/sync/download latest version of iTunes to my brand new iPod Touch, 4th generation.  Nothing happens.  It says I need to have 10.6.3 version or higher, but when I attempt to download to the iPod, it only downloads to my computer.  I am connected via the USB cable, not via WiFi.

Well, it looks like the iPod will need to come back to factory settings none the less. Try doing this:
First, show "Hidden Files and Folders" (Open my computer, click on "Tools" then Folder options, click on the view tab, put the dot next to show hidden files and folders and apply, ok)
Then, Terminate ipodservice.exe and ituneshelper.exe (This is assuming iTunes launches)
Connect the ipod, wait for it to show in My Computer.
Double click on it and you will find an ipod control folder in here - Drag and drop this to the recycle bin, close and open iTunes....Let's see if the ipod will be recognized allowing you to restore it.
