IPod b/w 4G 20GB - start up problem

Now before anybody post things like restore the iPod, Reset it, or do the 5R's. I have done all of those about 25 times, on this iPod in the past, and that has not solved this problem. Normally when I start this iPod up it shows the folder with an exclamation mark. Which I ignore because this iPod has problems connecting to the hard drive sometimes. So this morning I go and unplug it from charging from the wall charger and to turn it on and it is fine, plug it into my computer to delete something off of it, and iTunes says it cannot recognize the iPod. Which is understandable seeing that it has hard drive issues. I then unplug it to do that later, and now it won't start. Mostly it comes up with the apple logo, then the logo disappear to be replaced with another apple logo. If I just leave it sit there it will do this for a few minutes then it will either shut off or come out with the folder again. I have done repairs on this iPod before, because the connection between the hard drive and the rest of the iPod is not very good. I have stuck the bit of card in it a few times, so now I believe I have about 3 business cards in it. I have not experienced anything like this before and I am wondering what to do to make it boot, because once I let it boot and it is in the iPod interface it is fine.

I hate triple post like this, but I have noticed that when I try to start it up it always goes like this:
1. iPod is off, I push a button, or toggle hold switch
2. apple logo appears
3. pause, i can hear the hard drive spinning, it clicks
4. screen goes blank
5. immediately after the screen goes blank steps 2 through 4 repeat once
6. apple logo appears
7. then the folder appears
8. my iPod turns itself off.

when i try starting my IPod  it won't start, the Apple logo comes up for a few seconds, and then. it just shut off . I tried to charged it through an outlet, the IPod didn't eve charger so I tried to restore my setting in my computer, i tunes won't

But that requires the computer to see the ipod. I am having the same problem and I keep being told to restore it, but you have to either get the ipod to turn on or have the computer see it in order to so that. Right now I have a pretty useless 32GB ipod touch cos I cant get the thing to turn on! I can only get the apple logo for like maybe 20 seconds and it goes away. Ive charged it for days on a wall charger, on the computer usb charger, and on a speaker charger. Nothing works.

  • Ipod Touch "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"

Well about a month ago i updated my Windows XP Laptop to Vista Ultimate. Everything was running smoothly until i found out i had some problems with my laptop recognizing my Ipod Touch. I been having this problem from the time i upgraded and i been trying to find a solution for 3 weeks until i gave up, But now im in desperate need of help. I can tell for one that its not my Ipod thats the problem its possibly my laptop since i connected my Ipod to another laptop, my sister owns(Vista Home Premeum) and it works fine on hers. When i had Windows XP i never had problems with syncing devices, Not even when my laptop was infected. Ok so basically when i try to connect my Ipod Touch to my laptop, It goes to Driver Software Installation and it say inside the box when clicked "Serching Preconfigured Driver Folders" and then after ten seconds it says Failed "Please consult with your device manufacturer for assistance getting this device installed." And on top of that IT EVEN READS MY IPOD AS A DIGITAL STILL CAMERA!! I tried alot of so called solutions and none of them worked. I would hate to go back to XP since i like Vista alot. Not even my ps3 controller doesn't respond no more when i connect it, It used to respond when i had XP tho

Ok well, i fixed my problem, Which seemed almost impossible was actually quite easy but tricky. While i was reading threw these forums for posts related to my problem. I read a post that there was supposed to be a file named usbaapl.inf to help out with the problem i had, well i tried to find the file but i didn't have it. The post i read said if its not found, i didn't install Itunes right, So what i did, I Uninstalled everything that was related to Apple so i can start a fresh clean install of itunes. I restarted twice so i can make sure itunes would install completely, after i downloaded itunes, once downloaded i installed it, took about 5-10 minutes. when i connected my ipod touch nothing happened, then i kept connecting it and disconnecting it about 2 times, after i restarted it once more. Then opened itunes and connected my ipod touch again and same result, Then i realized that earlier today i disabled my ipod touch threw Device Manager. While my ipod was connected and itunes opened, i un-disabled my ipod and it WORKED!!!! Anyway that was the trick, i just had to Disable my Ipod Touch first then reinstall itunes. I just wrote this just in case someone had a similar problem, Cause i tried everything before and i mean EVERYTHING. mods you can close this.

  • Shut down // start up problems

i am having power related problems on the intel mini and i want to know how widespread this is before i confront apple support. btw i love the mini--this is my 2nd mini. i have had a power on problem with a mini even on the day of purchase and it was exchanged graciously at the apple store in white plains this past july.<this was a power button failure issue>
here's whats happenning....1>it misbehaves on shut down or restart by software. there gets to a point where the screen is black but the white light on the box stays on and the vents in the back are still warm. my workaround is to manually shut down about a minute after the software shut down by holding down the power button on the back of the mini.
......2> start up problem. the mini wont always start when i push the power button. my workaround has been to turn off my surge protector for about 10 seconds then turn it back on and VIOLA the power button can start the mini. i guess it needs to be cold to work.
i have been reticent to go to the store because i rely on this machine too much and i am not the only user here.
can some reader disclose if such a hardware failure is known?
    thanks in advance.

thanks. i hadn't thought about the surge protector.
keyboard and mouse are bluetooth.monitor is digital 24". i have an external powered usb hub which runs my time machine external drive. i keep everything else unplugged from the usb hub during startup and shutdown because my ipod shuffle caused startup problems in the past.
i had similar troubles with my first mini when it was plugged directly into a wall socket. the surge protector seems to help--at least i can cold start the mini without unplugging it.
i have a genius bar apptmt this evening and i will see what gives. i am glad i made apple put in their own overpriced ram so i never voided the warranty. maybe i will buy a care plan to cover myself when i am there. but i so want to raise this mini from 2 to 4 gig now that mem is so cheap. if i can get this problem stabilized...
my very first mini was powerpc and the ipod shuffle, according to genius bar, caused its demise due to usb 1.1 and usb2.0 handshaking problems. i still have it somewhere and plan to install a harddrive to get it going.
    thanks again guys.
and i'd like to ask others again if this problem is more common.

  • Start up problems, including from installation disc.

Hello everyone in the Apple ether, I need your help!
I have a powerpc based iMac G5 at home that I set up for my mum to use once I bought my macbook. I finally managed to win her over with talks of how much easier it would be for her to manage her photos in iPhoto, and everything was going really well. I recently came home after my final year at uni and some travelling to find that the computer is taking a long time to start up. This can be in both the grey apple loading screen but also once it logs in it can take a long time to display anything over than the desktop background, and even once it displays other items any attempt to open anything just results in a spinning wheel icon. At the worst case it has taken about 20 minutes to get going.
Once it has fully booted, the machine doesn't appear to be working any slower than normal. I tried using disk utility in mac OSX and verifying permissions etc and that didn't do anything. I then tried googling the problem and came across this article on the apple web site. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1417
Starting in Safe Mode did not resolve the issue so after backing everything up I tried starting from the installation disc. This is not something I have ever done before and as someone that never really delves beneath the surface of her machines I was a bit scared of doing it. But I put the disc in and restarted and held down C just after I heard the chime, and shortly after it all went wrong. The screen went grey and all I could see was the image you get when it crashes (you know, the power sign with text over it saying you need to restart) with lines of code all down the left of the screen. I took a photo of the screen on my camera so can give details of the code if you need them. The last line said
    Kernel version:
    Darwin Kernel Version 8.8.3: Wed Oct 18 22:00:38 PDT 2006; root:xnu-792.15.4.obj-4/RELEASE_PPC
    panic: We are hanging here...
After a few minutes on this screen the fan started working overtime and after about 5 minutes of that I just turned it off using the power button on the back. The machine has since started up normally (ie slowly) but is working fine.
So I was wondering if anyone had any ideas how to fix the slow start up problem without booting from my install disc, or indeed if anyone could suggest why I can't boot from my install disc? Thanks very much for your time and help.

It appears you experienced a kernel panic which is hardware related. A few suggestions for you to try:
Except for the keyboard & mouse, disconnect all devices from the computer & try the suggestions mentioned in the following:

Boot up from your Tiger or Leopard Install DVD while holding down the "c" key.
Select the language you wish to use, and then choose *"Disk Utility"* from the menu bar.
Your HD should appear in a panel on the left hand side of the window which opens. Select it and then click on the *"repair disk"* button in the right hand section of the window.
Once this process has been completed restart your computer and run *repair permissions* from Disk Utility.
    * If Disk Utility (from the install DVD or HD)is unable to complete the repair, you will need to use a stronger 3rd party utility like DiskWarrior, Techtool PRO (not Deluxe) or Drive Genius.

Also tried to update the serial control drivers but nothing's changed..One time I tried to do it in safe mode.. Nothings Changes... I everything I found in apple help files.. I see lots of unanswered questions in many months but Please HELP

Well it could be dead forever or you might just need some simple repairs. The problem i have seen in some is that when dropped the hard drive either comes loose (easy to fix) or gets killed (little more expensive).
There could be other problems but i have seen those problems more often than something drastic like the whole board dieing.

    Hello, BAHannebaum.
The article below should resolve any device not being recognized in iTunes issue that you are experiencing.  The most common issues are the Apple Mobile Device Support driver or iTunes is outdated.  Start with the first step and test the results after each step processed.

  • Photo Gallery start up problem

    I have a glitch and it's probably me … but here's what
    I know.
    About Don Booth's Photo Gallery:
It's great. Everything is good - integrated with my CSS -
    looks nice.
When the page loads all is well except the first image in the
Gallery does not display in <div id="mainImageOutline"... (and
the first thumbnail is not highlighted). While I'm building and
testing this is OK. Just click a thumbnail and everything works
    well.
In the demo, the Gallery is operational by default and starts
up with the first thumbnail and Spry:detail produces the
corresponding image (automatically). That's what I want.
    About my code:
Except for a couple of "page layout" divs that I have,
consistent with my own site-wide style sheet conventions, such as
    <div id="wrapper"> and <div id="maincontent"> I have:
    1. Copied Don Booth's xhtml code directly from the
    Spry_1_1_022408 download sample.
    2. Copied Don Booth's css code directly from the same
    download sample.
    3. Copied Don Booth's gallery.js directly (without change as
    far as I know).
The only significant change (apart from CSS and xhtml
structure) in my work is - I added an additional Spry:detail div to
present additional datapoints from xml. This is not relevant to my
question because the issue that concerns me is consistent if I
remove this second detail div. The start-up problem remains.
The URL for the gallery page in question is:
    http://www.yhqg.org/Celebration/quiltshow2008/galleryix/gallery.htm
I imagine the problem is in gallery.js. You should know that
javascript is a bit like dungeons and dragons to me.
    I have an error report:
    Error: dsPhotos is not defined
    Source File:
    http://www.yhqg.org/Celebration/quiltshow2008/galleryix/includes/gallery.js
    Line: 55
    So, when I see:
    var gAutoStartSlideShow;
    if (gAutoStartSlideShow == undefined)
    gAutoStartSlideShow = true;
I imagine I'm looking at something useful but I don't know
what to do with it, or if it is the right code to focus on. I
respect the relationship with level 4 support engineers, but after
trying to solve my own issue for a few weeks I decided it was time
to submit my question. How do I get Photo Gallery to start up like
    the demo?
    Additional information:
There is also a series of error reports that show when the
    Gallery is playing (for example):
Warning: Expected end of value for property but found
'-0.0775'. Error in parsing value for property 'opacity'.
    Declaration dropped.
    Source File:
    http://www.yhqg.org/Celebration/quiltshow2008/galleryix/gallery.htm
    Line: 0
I don't think it is related, but that's what I know.
I tried to copy my xhtml (below) but it caused this message
to exceed allowed size. But I don't see that xhtml is the problem.
You can see the source at the URL (above).

    Hi Latauro,
Sounds like you need to turn your Slideshow into a Track, and then set the Track to display as 16:9 Letterbox; but first, you'll also need to encode your slides as wide Mpeg 2 clips (encode set to 16:9), too; to whatever duration you have them set in the Slideshow, currently (if they're not already wide encoded clips).
It would be good to stick some same duration audible or silent same format and bit rate audio underneath each of the new movie slides, to present players a nicely packed VOB.
