Ipod BackLight Always On When When On Dock

I have ipod touch and it works perfectly on my white dock on my desk. The back light is off when not in use..Stays on the desk the whole day..
I bought another dock with the 5th Generation Ipod..
But one problem the backlight is on all the time saying connected.. I dont need to know this at all. I just want the light to be off when connected to computer but on when in use..
I think this feature needs to be added to next firmware asap...Whats the issue..

Generally, the backlights on 5th generation iPod stay ON, although at their lowest setting, when "actively" connected to iTunes. However, by "actively" I mean when it is actually doing something like syncing but this also includes enabling disk mode on the iPod where the iPod stays mounted as an external drive.
So, if you do not enable disk mode, it should light up when connected and syncing but then lights off when it is done and the iPod will revert back to showing the main iPod menu. If however you have backlight enabled, then the iPod will show the Do Not Disconnect text and stay "active" with backlight on until ejected. Solution is to disable disk mode if you don't need it enabled all the time.

  • Ipod classic 5G backlight turns off when in dock even when set to 'always on'-any ideas?

I have just inherited an Ipod classic 5G from my son. It all works fine except when I put it into my Ruark audio dock when the backlight then switches off and so I cannot see the tracks. I have it set to backlight always on. I have tried waking it up but it still stays dark. It is fine if I use it with the jack connection on all my other systems. Is this a common problem or am i doing something wrong or can it be got round?? This is my first attempt with an ipod so I am a bit of a novice!

Thanks brody, I do have that option checked. I was just wondering if there was some way via command line or something that things could be modified so that the Mac never turns the NIC off at all, or never tells it to enter into "low power" state.
The more I read, the more I realize this may not be possible.

  • I am getting no sound from my iPod, although it works when on dock and with headphones. Please help

I am getting no sound from iPod, although works when on dock and when headphones are in. Please help

Does Ford say it will work with the 4G iPod?
    Contact them.
    Sometimes this works:
    - Reset the car system
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
It just may not be compatible.

  • Keeping the iPod Touch always "ON" when in cradle or on cable...

How do u tell the iPod touch to stay ON when connected to a dock or when getting power from the usb port???

It's a default Apple put in, at least if I'm correct.
I first had the nano 2nd generation and it did recharge on standby, but 3rd generation and Touch are both affected. The unit won't charge unless the pc is on, or you can get the ac/usb adapter and plug it in the house charger.
For Windows users, You pretty much have no need to put the PC on standby, if you use it as a PVR until 2009 and need to upgrade to a Digital Cable computer.

  • IPod touch gets hot when in dock without charger

My iPod touch gets hot after a while when I put it into a MT-035 universal dock without a charger. I use this to connect to my stereo.
My iPhone stays cool in the same situation.

Yes, it is normal for the iPod toi get quite warm with heavy use like gaming and videos.

  • IPod is acting weird when its Docked!

I havean iHome under the kitchen cabinet iPod dock/radio. The last couple of days it has been acting strange and not sure if its the iPod or the iHome! When I put the iPod in the dock, the screen of the iPod changes to an all white screen with a big check mark in the middle. At the bottom of the screen it will say OK TO DISCONNECT. When I try to play music, it won't. If I have it in the dock and the power of the iHome is off, the thing will turn itself on by itself! Today I kept hearing weird sounds coming out of my kitchen and this was the case! The ihome turned on by itself and the iPod was trying to play some music but the music kept skipping.
Now the iPod plays perfectly in the car or if I plug my headphones into it.
I have never seen do this before and I am not sure if the ipod or ihome needs to be serviced.

I would have the jack replaced. Use a third-party repair service via Google. It will be cheaper than Apple.

  • Way to keep Clock always on when docked?

When I first got the nano, I somehow managed to keep the clock always on when it was docked and charging. However, I have not been able to make this work anymore and I don't know what has changed.
It would be nice to dock the nano at night and have a clock face continually show while it's docked and charging, as I use it for my alarm clock.

I just discovered what was going on. Apparently my dock (a JVC model) is somehow causing the iPod nano to stay on continuously when docked, AND powered on. This does not work in standby mode. But suffice it to say, when the nano is docked, I can use the remote to turn the nano on with the unit, and the backlight will stay on until I turn off the dock with the remote again (standby), at which point the nano goes off too.
The nano charges while the dock is in standby mode, but the backlight will not stay on.
So somehow, it is possible to tell the nano to keep the backlight on, via some kind of external signal from the dock, which seems to have nothing to do with having an external power supply attached.
Whatever the reason I have my nano alarm clock back. Now if only it had an alarm sound that sounded continuously until I shut it off ... Good thing I'm a light sleeper.

Unfortunately, I don't think it solved the problem. I believed the new iPod thing solved the weird behavior problem, but after that the button stopped working.
Do you know how to contact Genius? Because I don't think I can find a store in my area, when I tried to.

  • When I dock my ipod touch into my bose speakers, the 365Live radio APP doesn't work. Does anybody know why?

When I dock my ipod touch into my Bose speakers, the 365LiveRadio APP doesn't work. It buffers and doesn't connect.
    Why ?

Audio through a dock connection is at line level, also called line out.  Line level volume is not adjustable.  You need to change the volume using the controls on the iHome device, or its remote.

  • IPod 4G always mounts for disk use when Mac wakes from sleep

My 4G iPod is always mounting for disk use when my Mac (10.4.8, Dual 1.8 GHz G5) wakes from sleep, even though the settings for the iPod has "enable disk use" unselected. When I launch iTunes (latest version) the iPod promptly is unmounted. I have restored factory settings, I have reinstalled the computer's OS and iTunes with it.
What is going on and how can I make it normal?
    Dual 1.8 GHz G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   iTunes 7.1, iPod 4G 20GB

    UPDATE:
I have started to turn off Bluetooth at night before I put my computer to sleep. I HAVE NOT HAD THE FIREWIRE RANDOM DISMOUNT PROBLEM SINCE. I do not know if this is a freak coincidence -- but so far, so much the better for my firewire drive.
Hope this helps someone else down the line... eh hem...

  • My ipod sounds as if it has interference when on docking station.....3 other apple devices work with no such problem...i.e nano ,classic and 2x separate iphones, with no problems .I have been given a 2nd ipod touch replacement, it plays with interference

    ipod problems
My ipod sounds as if it has interference when on docking station....3 other apple devices work with no such problems, i.e a nano. a classic and 2 separate iphones    so the problem doesn't seem to be the docking station...I have been given 2 reolacement ipods and the sound persists....it is obviously the connection.....as before downloading any data on the new ipod I docked it and the noise was present ....mairiskye....

    - Is it a 4G iPod? That model sometimes mates poorly with dock because the configuration of the iPod by the dock connector is different that other devices. Thus, make sure it is fulld/seated in the dock.
    - Have you brought the iPod and dock to the Genius at the an Apple store.

  • Ipod says it's connected to a dock when its not. No sound.

My son's ipod touch says its connected to a dock connector when it's not. It won't play music and there is no sound on games. It has 5.1 installed. It's been restored and reset multiple times. Any suggestions?

It says this when not connected to the dock. His dock is an ihome which isn't an official Apple dock. I think my next step is to take the thing in to an Apple store.

  • My new iPod Classic doesn't 'wake' when my docking station switches on (alarm setting)

My new iPod Classic doesn't 'wake' when my docking station switches on (alarm setting).
My old iPod Classic never ever let me down, and I used it in the docking station every working day for two years.
But this new iPod Classic has let me down three times just this week!
    Any clues?

While the iPod is connected to your iTunes, look (in iTunes) on the Device/Podcasts pane (tab) and make sure the Sync Podcasts option has been selected (there should be a tick in the box).
