IPod bails out after only partial update on iTunes

Here’s the problem: My ipod starts updating new songs, then after ~1GB of songs ( Ihave 16GBs of songs in iTunes), it just drops out (disappears), comes back a couple minutes later, but then starts updating at some random previous point (say 300GBs). It will get to a point around 1.2-1.5GBs and then bails out again—reappearing at some prior update point. It does this over, over….
This has to be my laptop issue because I’m on my 2nd iPod and having this SAME exact issue!!!
I’ve talked to Apple support but they can’t figure this out. Here’s what I’ve done so far (nothing has helped)
•     I’ve downloaded SP2 for Windows (apple support guy recommended)
•     I ‘disallowed’ my computer to turn off USB to save power (also an apple recommendation)
•     I’ve disabled my Network Associates 7.1 Enterprise Virus Scan (apple recommend as well)
•     Reinstalled itunes
•     Reinstalled iPod updater
•     I’ve reset ipod, restored ipod and rebooted laptop.
Like I said, this is my 2nd ipod, and the same thing happened (must be some quicky setting/SW with me laptop?)
This is a terrible experience.... Please Help?

    Hello darkhawk,
Thank you for the recommendation.  I somewhat understand what a MS DOS disk is, but I'm not sure how to go about creating one. I've seen where you can use a program, like Rufus, to create a usb one  - but I'm leery about using 3rd-party programs (especially ones I'm not familiar with). I've come across a couple of 'how-to' tuts, but they didn't clarify what files (if any) I would need to include on the disk (for my particular situation). Right now I don't have any blank cds, nor any extra flash/thumb drives - wish I did, but hadn't needed these for years. There has only been one other time where I needed to re-install Windows, but that was over 15 years ago - I did it through BIOS, reformatting my drives, and then reinstalled via the Windows XP disk. Windows 8 is an entirely different breed, which has left me feeling a bit stumped, at times. If there was a way I could perform it (successfully), similar to the first time I did it years ago, I'd give it a try - but at the same time, I'm a bit reluctant, because if it doesn't work, then I'm stuck without any internet access to get further help.
Ask and ye shall receive. This should be doable in Windows 7 and Windows 8 on another PC. I recommend using a USB Flash drive like in this tutorial, but I'm sure you could use something else.
If you want, you could also use Hiren's BootCD to make a bootable CD with many options and programs on it (I keep one, just for certain situations) that will allow you to do the same things.

Also very useful for sorting out virus's as long as it's downloaded and made on another PC that is virus free......

  • After the last update of itunes I seem to have lost all my music (Cds that I had downloaded into itunes) except the once I had purchased from the itunes store. Can anyone help? Do you know what might have happened?

After the last update of itunes I seem to have lost all the music that I had downloaded from my Cds. It was a lot of music! All I still have is the music that I had purchased in the itunes store. And before you asked. No, I did not have a backup. Never got around to do it.
Does anyone of you have an idea if and how I can maybe get my music back?
Your help is very much appreciated. Would it help if I recover my computer from an earlier date?? I am not even sure if I make sense here.

Hi - I seem to have a similar problem. I was prompted to update to iPhoto 11 yesterday (don't know why yesterday, I'm in iPhoto all the time). So I followed the instructions, library updated, all existing events and albums are there. I uploaded some more pictures and created a few new albums and did some new year spring cleaning, moving stuff around etc. And I started making a calendar.
I've opened it up today, my calendar is still there as are all the new events, but the pictures are empty outlines. If I open up a picture I just get the "!" but I can still see the thumbnails showing in the slider in the bottom - I don't know if that means the source files must still be there somewhere, or if it just means it captured thumbnails yesterday.
I've gone into it via "show package contents" and there just don't seem to be any masters for an upload yesterday. I also just had a look in the last import folder, because of a comment from someone above. As I scrolled down through the folder the images were there and literally disappeared in front of me - by which I mean, the thumbnails were there as I scrolled down and then would turn into empty outlines...!
All my old folders are still there, thankfully (although they're of course the ones that are also all safely back up).
Although I have a timecapsule, my photo library is too big to keep on my hard drive, so I keep it on an external drive - so it only gets backed up when I do it manually (thanks Apple for that, I will never understand why it was designed to work - or not work - that way). So if the pictures have been lost then they are gone for good which is super-frustrating (I just got back from South Korea and was in the middle of sorting out all my shots from that trip).  It seems that this can only have happened because of the update - I should have known better than to have pressed yes.
If you have any ideas, I'd be most grateful!
    Regards
    R

  • My ipod is showing corrupted.. iam updating by itunes but its show error 1439.. can any1 help me

my ipod is showing corrupted.. iam updating by itunes but its show error 1439.. can any1 help me

    Hey there AftabskinHow are you?
Well, I have an iPod Classic, it gave me the error -1436 error and would not restore on iTunes.
    I did the following:
My Boss (@work) has a fairly old iBook but it has OS-X, so I decided to give it a try and connected my iPod to it.
The system showed a window telling me that the disk is not MAC formated and needs to be validated prior further action. Snce it is a Mac product, I thought "yeah, go ahead".
It then opens the disk manager utility for the Mac and showed the disk. It's window has some tabs, one is to verify the disk, so I verified it. Guess what, it had some invalid clusters.
Then I formatted the iPod to OS-X Plus file system (next tab to the right). After formating the iPod, I "ejected" the iPod and reconnected to my PC. The Windows iTunes found an iPod with Mac file system and asked me to restore it. As I clicked on the "restore" button, I crossed my fingers as this was the last resource I have.
Finally, after the file extraction was done, it began to restore the iPod!!
I'm so happy about being able to restore the iPod that I decided to share with all you guys this solution as it is the most usefull, in my opinion.
Hope you can find someone with an iBook or a desktop Mac, so you can fix yours.
If it works for you, make sure to share the tip!!
    Kind regards

I have an older ipod...ever since I updated the itunes software my ipod no longer works in my car.  my car is a 2013 mercedes E350.  Is there a way to go back to an older version of the itunes software?

If it's an older iPod, its software is not being updated by Apple.  So, I don't see how updating iTunes would make the iPod not work with the car's audio system, since iTunes just updates the song files (not how the iPod operates).
Does the iPod work by itself (play songs), when disconnected from the computer and iTunes?

After the latest update of iTunes 11.1.4 sync.of my iPhone 5 failed to sync.to mac iTunes over WiVi

I have had the same issue on 2 computers with 2 different installations.  This appears to be an issue with the update.  Everything was syncing great until the update.  I know this because I had just synced the iphone numerous times and then I did the update.  As soon as the update was complete, the phone would no longer sync over WiFi.  The symptoms are exactly as you describe them.

    * Check for updated USB drivers for your laptop. Check the manufacturers webpage as well as Google.
    * Try a different USB connector on the laptop.
    * Try a different cable. Flaky cables can cause this sort of thing too.
    * Try a USB Hub in between the laptop and the iPod. This helps sometimes when the USB power is a bit flaky. Using a powered USB hub eliminates the dependance on the laptop providing steady power.
    * Switch to firewire instead of USB. Firewire PCMCIA cards are available. Get an Adaptec model.

  • Comp. won't recognize ipod touch 4g after ios4.3 update

So i updated my ipod 4g to ios4.3 and it downloaded and installed fine but then my computer didn't recognize my ipod. A window came up saying that "itunes has detected an ipod in recovery. You must restore this ipod before it can be used with itunes." I then restored it but it didn't finish and the same window appeared. I tried restoring a second time but then an error appeared "Error (-1)"
I tried looking up what that error was but it is not in the support/help portion in the apple website. So now my ipod is just sitting here, fully plugged in with the connect to itunes screen.
I also updated to the latest version of itunes BEFORE I tried to update to ios4.3. I rechecked to make sure itunes updated but it stated that it did. Please help anyone!
Oh, I have a PC with Windows 7.

Have a similar problem. My computer is PC with 64 bit windows 7. Itunes is version 10.2.1.1. I use Microsoft Security Essentials for virus/firewall.
Anyways, I did the update this morning. When download finally finished, ITunes began updating my IPod touch & I got a single error (I didn't catch it, but may have been something like 1620 or 1602). I restarted my computer to try everything over again. I booted up and loaded Itunes, but it wasn't saying anything, and I also noticed my IPod wasn't showing up either. I checked, and it was still plugged in, but I did notice that it had a screen with a usb plug pointing to Itunes like I should plug in my Ipod, but it was plugged in.
I checked on internet a bit & didn't find much that was very helpful. I did find one thing on Apple support that sometimes driver gets messed up on update (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538), so I tried that. This entailed deleting the usb driver for apple mobile devices, and then scanningn for new devices, and restoring the apple mobile device driver from a directory under the C drive (c:/program files/common files/apple/mobile device support/drivers). Updating to this file gives a driver that calls itself "Apple Recover (iBoot) USB Driver" with a driver date of 2/11/2011. This has no effect, and I still have the same screen on my IPod and it doesn't show up in Itunes.
On internet I found that my IPod seems to be in a recovery mode, and I tried a couple of the listed methods to get out of the recover mode (these all failed for me, but maybe they'll help someone else). I held down both home & power buttons for 10 sec and then letting go of just the power button. Then you wait until after apple logo dissapears (about another 10 sec) and then you let go of the home button. This is supposed to start the recovery mode for your IPod, but for me I just get a blank screen. There is also a reverse method that does either a DFU or Recovery mode. For that method you just reverse the releasing of the Home and Power buttons, but that just got me back to the usb+itunes screen instead of to a blank screen.
While doing both of these things, I did notice that it would sometimes replace the Recovery Driver with a DFU driver, or sometimes you'd get 2 non-working Recovery drivers. None of these drivers had any effect on Itunes being able to see my IPod. The Apple Recovery (iBoot) USB Driver only comes up when you do the apple support option.
Hopefully this error is widespread enough that it will get apple's attention and a fix will come forth shortly. I'm at my wit's end trying to fix it.

  • BMW iPod adapter: Problems after 1.2 update

I have the BMW iPod adapter, my pre Sept 5G 30GB iPod, will skip, if the radio is turned off while listening to the iPod.
Then when you turn the radio back on or start the car, it skips
It will play for a second the silence, then play then silence.
The only way to get it to play correctly again is to turn the radio on and of 3-4 times, or unplug the iPod and plug it back in.
This started after the 1.2 update.
    Anyone else have this problem?
    Steve

Hey, Steve - You're not alone. I also have a 5G 30 Gb video iPod (first wave), and it's been skipping in my BMW since it was updated to firmware version 1.2. I only updated to version 1.2 because iTunes 7 wouldn't copy certain podcasts without the update. Glad to see I'm not alone, anyway.
I've found that selecting another playlist, and then going back to the original, stops the skipping. It was working fairly well before the update, although it would occasionally weird out after fast forwarding.
Have you tried a full reset - wiping your iPod out, and then reloading everything? I haven't had time to try that, yet. I suspect there might be some artifact on the iPod that's not compatible with 1.2, and might be corrected after a full reset & reload. Also, I wonder if there's any way to update the BMW's iPod adapter?
What is the best way to report this apparent bug to Apple?
    Thanks,
    Tim
    I have a 1st Gen 5G 30GB iPod. After the 1.2 update,
if I am listening in my car, using the BMW iPod
adapter, and shut the radio off, or turn the car off,
when I turn the radio back on the music skips. It
plays 1 sec, skips 1sec and on and on.
I have to turn the radio off and on 3 or 4 times for
the iPod to start playing the songs again without
    skipping.
Has anyone else had this happen?
    Thanks,

    Anyboy else experiencing this?
There are 2 audible clicks coming from the HD whenever I press play after pausing playback.

  • Sound cutting out after 2.1 update

    Hi!
I installed the newest firmware upgrage, 2.1, the one with the "genius" playlist.
After this install however, i've had problems with songs cutting out after a few seconds. The song continues to play, but with no sound. Also, this often occurs if i turn the screen off, within a few seconds of selecting a new song to play.
Has anyone else encountered this problem?

Has nothing to do with that. Like the previous remark says, it's totally random. One song doesn't work so if you select another song it may play, or not, or just for a few moments. Go back to the song you originally chose and it may play, or not. Same with videos. I just bought a new dock and thought there was something wrong with that but, nope, it's the iPod. It chokes me that something that costs so much is so easily broken. I've only had it for 6 weeks and who knows how long it will take them to fix this issue.
If you are having the same problem, PLEASE report it so that we can get this fixed asap!
    Thanks!!

  • I was syncing my ipod (1st gen) while downloading an update to Itunes and now i get the sad ipod icon...can someone help me out or explain how to get it fixed? cause the Apple STore is acting weird and I don't know what to do

basically the title says it all...I've been using this for the longest time and now after i was syncing the ipod while downloading an update for Itunes the sad face ipod icon shows up and everything i try won't fix it. I'm wondering if anyone knows how they can help me fix it...please!

The Sad face icon is usually a very good indication of a hardware malfunction or failure usually with the iPod's Hard Drive, which would also explain the loud clicking noise you are hearing.
I assume you have seen this article yet?
iPod display's a sad iPod icon

  • IPod not charging after only 6 months

After only 6 months, my iPod (color display) seems to have stopped taking charges. When plugged into computer, a very faint image appears saying something like "Battery power very low." We brought to an iPod store. They said the battery is fine, and sold us a cord for plugging into wall outlet. We left it charging overnight, but it still doesn't work (it does work while plugged into wall).
Could the battery really be dead after only 6 months?
Does it really cost $80 to have a battery replaced?
Is there really no way to get support from Apple directly to answer questions like these?
    Thanks,
    Steve

    Please note that
Normally, the battery should needs to be replacement around 18 months, yours is 6 months -Hummm.
Where did you buy it? Are you sure it is a brand new one? iPod with colour display have came to market for quite some time.
Try to do a reset and recharge your iPod again.
If still does not work, you can go to Apple shop again, your iPod should covered by 12 months warranty
