Ipod battery not charging! help

my ipod battery completely ran out. so, i plugged it into the computer. no screen shows up that the battery is too low, and the computer AND itunes does not recognize that it is plugged in.
how can my ipod charge, if the computer doesn't know it's plugged in!?
help pleaseee.

I received a 4th Gen 20GB iPod (around 2 years old)from a friend and asked me whether I could fix it for him, which has been left untouched as a paper-weight for almost 2 months.
I tried to turn it on, and the screen was completed blank and the device looked dead. Before doing anything I prepared the following:-
1. A window based PC
2. A Mac computer
3. An USB iPod cable
4. A Firewire iPod cable
5. An iPod AC charger
As the iPod was previously formatted on a PC, therefore I tried to plug it with a PC via USB cable, it did not response and not able to get recognized by the PC. I ejected the iPod and connected with an AC charger, after a few minutes, I did a Reset for the iPod
How to reset iPod

The iPod showed an Apple sign, it stuck there for almost a minute, the screen then showed a battery with an exclamation mark sign, and after a minute, the iPod turned off itself. I was sure that the iPod carried very low battery, and could not be charged by connecting it with any computer (both Mac and PC).
I decided to let it have a charge with an AC charger for a bit longer, after 10 minute I did the Reset again, this time a sign of folder with exclamation mark showed up after the Apple sign, and again could not get recognized by a computer.
I changed my mind, and put the iPod into disk mode

Instead of connecting with a PC, I plug it with my Mac using a Firewire cable, it did not response, so I switched the cable to an USB, interestingly, the iPod got recognized and a window pop up indicating that the iPod needed to do a Restore. Therefore I clicked “Restore”.
After that I left the iPod with the ac charger overnight, and it finally recovered

  • IPod Battery (not sure) help!

Ok. Some days ago, I plugged in my ipod into my computer, and it said it had corrupted files and it had to be restored. I still had some energy, so I figured i'd do it another day. Another day came, and my battery was in red. So I plug the ipod in the computer and nothing happened, it just said it was charging (and it really wasn't) next time I put the ipod in, and it said the very low battery level message, charging, and it does not charge at all. I tried charging it in several ways, and it doens't work. I still have some battery to turn it on red, and when i plug it in, it starts charging and it says do not disconnect, and the itunes recognizes it. i put restore, but it says it can not get the resources to restore it. I reinstalled itunes and nothing. I put in on disk mode and I put restore, and after it says to wait a little bit while my ipod is being restored, the ipod says Please Wait, Very Low Battery level and it stays there for all the time. Help, please?

  • IPod battery not charging unless in speaker-dock

I have my iPod 5g (60gig) for about 2 years now. About 2 months ago the battery started to act up.
It would very suddenly discharge completely (I noticed that my room had gotten unusually cold before the first of these failures). The ipod would not respond to buttons, and plugging it into the computer dose not charge it.
After some trying i discovered that the ipod would charge again if pluged into an i-station speaker-dock, and after 2 or three minuits in the i-station it would also charge fine from my ibook.
About 2 weeks ago the battery on my ipod again got itself completely discharged. As i did not have access to an istation i was unable to recharge it since.
Today I bought a belkin usb-wall charger with ipod cable that is marked as 'made for ipod' and states clearly that it is ipod video compatible at walmart (i'm on holidays in the US) and have been trying to use this to recharge my ipod, however the charger is not helping.

  • 3rd Generation, 15g Ipod- Will Not Charge- HELP

I have a 3rd generation, 15g Ipod- I keep it for nostalgia purposes but I can't get it to charge.
    It has a new battery.
I'm extremely frustrated at my experience with Apple. Technology changes so fast (i've owned it 7years) that no one seems to know or care to assist me either at the Apple 800 number or in the Apple store.
I have the original Ipod but not the cradle or anything else that I can find. We have purchased so many Ipods over the years.
So I have been told that if the battery gets to low I must charge it with the a wall adaptor. So today I purchase a new wall adaptor but it won't charge the ipod. Plugging into my 2 year old Imac won't charge it either. Is there another way to charge the Ipod?
I just received it back with a new battery. It was 1/4 charged and Imac recognized it perfectly. I just think the battery got too low and needs to be charged another way. HEEEEEELPP!

    Hi,

No. You're lucky that the battery went for 7 years. They do not last forever.

  • Ipod Touch Battery not charging

Hey, my ipod touch just recently ( within the hour ) needed charging, so i hooked it up to my pc. it showed the charging sign, so i just left it alone. 5 minutes later, i checked it, and it was at the same charge, and in the top right cornor of the screen where it shows the battery sign, it showed it with the little wire icon over it indicating it was at full charge, but the picture on the screen said it was still at 10%. my ipod is not charging. do i need to replace the battery? how can i fix this? ive tried turning it off and back on, but have not yet restored it.

No, im talking, IT WAS CONNNECTED FOR AN HOUR AND DIDNT CHARGE. it turned off while it was on my computer because i tried to restore it and it ran out of power. the ipod would only barely keep a 5-10% charge, enough to communicate with the computer. although, now i have fixed a problem and gotten my ipod charging. i found my MusicPower Duet ipod charger ( just a plug with 2 usb's, for ipods and zune charge ) and it charged the ipod perfectly, but i can not charge the ipod on my computer for somereason.

Have you tried the standard fixes:
    - Reset the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
    - Restore the iPod via iTunes on your computer

  • My ipod will not charge on my computer or in a wall charger or in my ihome . how do i fix this problem ?

my ipod will not charge anymore .
it won't show it's charging on my ihome or in a wall charger .
it won't even show it's charging on my computer .
can someone help me fix this .

If none of these fixes work, take it into the Apple store. barring any signs of obvious damage it's possible that your battery is sick, or that there could be something wrong within the device.
Do the troubleshooting to rule out a bad cable before you take time to go in.

  • My ipod will not charge from a wall socket but will charge using the same cable if the usb end is plugged into a computer or an airport power source. My iphone and ipad charge fine on the same cable usin ghte same wall plug in the same wall socket?

My ipod will not charge from a wall socket but will charge using the same cable if the usb end is plugged into a computer or directly into an airport power source. My iphone and ipad charge fine on the same cable using the same wall plug in the same wall socket. This makes no sense but I see that it has been posted as a problem elsewhere. This must be due to some kind of degredation of the Ipod. . It is not fixed by IOS resets as others have noted.
Has anyone asked Apple directly about this?
