Ipod battery problem - 4 weeks old

I bought an iPod nano a month ago to use while I run. Recently, the battery has stopped holding a charge. It will not dock on my mac, and I've tried using the dock and the usb cable that came with it. It will not turn on at all - it just shows the dead battery icon. However, it works fine when I connect it to my cd player (using IP-BUS cable).
What could be causing this? Do you think sweat could have got into the nano and messed it up? Do you think I can send it to Apple and have them replace the battery? PLEASE HELP!!!

i recomend sending it to apple if it is only a month old.
you could have a bad battery.
this is not the first one ive heard of
one guy did not even have a battery installed in his ipod nano
so just send it and good luck.
also you can't mess up a battery by not fully charging every time, its just a myth

  • IPod Gen 6 - 6 Weeks Old.. Audio Problem

I know there is a simple explaination for this one, My new ipod nano 6 for some reason, after the last sync, decieded to remove all of my podcast, i've had to manually reload them, I can handle that, the next probelm that came to light, is that after 2 minutes whenever the screen goes off, the unit turns itself off and the audio stops playing.
the unit is 6 weeks old, Latest firmware, latest iturnes, WinXP Pro.
    anyone?

Your nano is pausing playback when the screen goes dark. The reason for this is that it is not detecting your headset. You may be able to hear music at first, but the headset jack is not inserted enough for the nano to detect that it is there. Here are your three options:
Insert the headset jack harder. Most folks find that this solves their problem. If you can see ANY of the silver of the plug when it is inserted, it is NOT fully inserted. You should feel and hear "click" when it is fully inserted.
Clean out the crud in the headset port. If you have tried #1 and it just won't insert all the way, it is likely that you have crud in your headset jack. Shine a light in there. The entire inside of the jack is white, so if it looks dark down at the bottom, there is probably crud down there. You can try blowing it out or using canned air. Just understand that shoving anything else in there to clean it out will be taking your warranty into your own hands! However, I have cleaned mine out using whatever was handy and small enough to fit in there and so far so good. Your results may vary!
Take it to the Apple store. If if you have really tried with 1 and 2 and it is still happening, then there might just be something up with your headset port or your headset jack. If it is the headset jack, you can look closely at that and be pretty sure if that is the problem. Try another headset to make sure.

  • IPod Battery Problems.. Send in for a replacement?

My iPod is just over a month and a half old. I use it very often. The battery lately takes about 12 to 14 hours to fully charge. Once I get a full charge into the battery, the battery lasts about 10mins, even though I don't play games or scroll alot.. Is there a battery problem here? should I send it in for a replacement? Also, when I get a replacement iPod.. Is it possible to request that my new ipod be a different colour? (I hate my pink iPod)

    welcome!
    1) if your ipod is under warranty, then you should send it in for service/replacement
    2) as for requesting a different color... I would doubt it, but who knows....

  • Ipod battery problem/ restore

I just got a new battery for my uz 20gb ipod because i thought the old one needed to be replaced. But the new one is lasting the same amount of time as the old one. the charge lasts about 4 hours. In addition when I restore the ipod there is about 20 or so mb of the other on the ipod. is that supposed to be there?

Take a look at the available backups in iTunes/Edit/Preferences/Devices.
Since iTunes replaces each backup with the new one there might be only one left.
If you used a backup to restore from, this one will not be replaced and will be marked with a time stamp.
Only if you included the backup folder into your computer backup routine, you would be able to restore this folder to get older backup data.
Have a look at this article for more details on the location and content: iTunes: About iOS backups

  • Ipod Battery Problem (No not the usual question)

I have a new 30gb 5g Ipod which is the successor to my 15gb 3g Ipod so Im not new to the whole Ipod thing, but I was wondering if I have a battery problem: (Events leading to problem)
    1. I sync the ipod and charge it so its full
    2. I listen to it for about an hour meter goes down about half way, which is fine because its only the 3rd charge. BUT.......
    3. I "turn it off" by pressing play/pause and switch the hold switch on.
    4. 2-3 days later I turn ther hold switch off and my ipod doesnt turn on like the battery id fully depleted, and I have to charge it for 3 or more hours to get it to turn on.
Do I have a problem. If there is a common fix could you please help me. Thanks.

I think this is a 5th generation iPod that would clearly be under warranty.
It really does sound like A faulty battery - it's quite common for the battery meter to dip noticably after an hour of use on a fully charged battery because the meter is not really accurate and reflects the battery charge based on what drain is occuring at the time. What is needed is to fully charge the iPod over 4 hours or so, then set it to play continuously and monitor how long it takes until it switches off. That should give a reasonably clear idea of how well the battery is performing.
It's important to note however that the symptom described is not uncommon with a faulty lithium ion battery.

  • Ipod Battery problem?

This has happened before and forgot about my ipod for weeks at a time and usually got it working again. Well the battery is completely drained. When I plug in my ipod it just shows a picture of a battery 1/4th full. It doesn't show up in itunes. Maybe the battery is so low it cant operate? But i've had it plugged in for like 2 days with just the 1/4th battery picture showing. I've tried to reset it multiple times. It won't reset without it plugged into USB screen just goes blank and reset does nothing. When I reset with USB plugged in very quickly after 8 seconds that caution sign with battery shows up and than it goes back to a 1/4th battery. I've also tried to I guess drain power completely by having it unplugged from anything for a week. But to no avail, still nothing but the 1/4th thingy when plugging in.

Let me start off by saying, I'm not sure what iPod you have. You're posting this in the 5G iPod forum, but it sounds like you have an older model with the monochrome bootloader icons. At any rate, the icon sounds like the Very Low battery icon. It usually means leave it plugged in until it boots. If you had it plugged in for 2 days, your battery is probably old and won't hold any charge. It sounds like replacement time. Apple can do this for $59, or there are 3rd party services as well as Do-It-Yourself services.

  • IPod battery problem I think?!?

When I plug my iPod in with a Firewire cable into my G4 it comes on and can play songs etc. As soon as I eject and then take the cable out of the iPod it switches off and won't come back on until I plug the Firewire cable back in.
I have tried resetting, update, restoring etc with no luck. I tried using a USB cable and all I get is the battery charging symbol on the iPod screen but the charge icon doeasn't move, it just stays with the bottom 1/3 filled.
Does this mean I need a new battery?

    Hi there,
I guess it depends on how long you've had your iPod for and how often you use it.
For example, is it more than a couple of years old, and when you recharge it, do you wait until the battery has nearly run out of juice or do you charge whenever you feel like it irrespective of how much charge the battery currently has?
I think it says somewhere that most iPod batteries are good for a thousand charges or more depending on you being a good owner and charging it up fully, then running it down fully each time...
Replacement batteries can be had in many places now, such as on the Newertech website as well as Sonnet Technologies.
On the face of it, it does sound like your battery is dead. That's just on the face of it, mind.

  • IPod battery problems

I bought my iPod just over a year ago and, surprise surprise, it starts acting up now after the one-year warranty. It always seems to turn off when I'm not using it, especially after I've just locked it. It has never been dropped or been in extreme heat or water. I'm guessing that a battery solder joint may have failed, but I can't tell.
Here's the real problem though: I live in Malta (small island in the Mediterranean) and I bought it in the UK from Curry's. Malta has an iCentre, but no way of contacting it, and I don't think that Curry's is involved too much. As usual, Apple remains adamant that you have to contact them by phone, which I'm not doing 'cause of phone bills.
So what can/ should I do?

Your warranty claim, were it still valid, would probably have to be made in the country of purchase. Perhaps I'm not understanding properly, but the iPod is supposed to turn off when you are not using it. Usually the screen goes blank after 5-10 seconds and if you unplug the headphone it should pause any playback. I guess this isn't quite what you meant so perhaps you would elaborate. I assume you've reset and/or restored the iPod but still have an issue.

  • Battery only 2 weeks old - already dropped to 95% max...

Surely the behaviour that I've detailed in the subject heading can't be right.. I did all that I was supposed to when I replaced my old battery, charged it to full, ran it right down, let it lie for five hours, then recharged it to calibrate it. I also re-set the PMU. But it seems to be leaking power... I can't get it to reach and maintain 100% and it is only a fortnight old.
Can anyone suggest a way to re-set, or does it mean a) I have a faulty barttery, or b) I have something else wrong with the computer?

    Hi,
Mine tends to go down to 95% and then 'Charge' back up to near 100% (98-99%) before it goes into the "Idle" mode... back down to near 95%. And it takes a while to get it back to the top line.
The battery 'Can Not' charge ALL the Time... it will blow up! You can only get a gallon of water into a gallon jug... any more will not fit. The electronic control for the battery controls the charge or not to charge... switches it on or off... that is why you 'calibrated' it, to set that range.
Remember, if you leave it plugged in most the time, you WILL notice it dropping about 5% before it goes back up... slowly (because the charger has a tougher time pushing against the near full charge pushing back). If it only goes up and down in that 5% range, your battery is normal; and doing exactly what it is suppose to be doing (to prevent overheating or the earlier problem of catching on fire).
    Enjoy

  • 'Printhead Problem' on week-old HP Officejet Pro 6830

I purchased a HP Officejet Pro 6830 for around $130 only a week ago to be used at home for my study requirements. I was anticipating that this printer would be reliable and, for the price tag, last me a little over a week..
Unfortunately 7 days after purchasing, my printer has displayed the message 'There is a problem with the printhead 0xc19a0023'.
With very little instruction on how to solve such an issue I have spent hours searching online forums, the HP website and beyond. I have turned off my printer, 'reset' it, attempted to clean the printheads all to no avail and resulting in a colossal waste of time. Unfortunately your call centre is also closed so I am stuck without a way of printing my resources for tomorrow.
What can I do to solve this problem?

    @Sarah204, Welcome to the forums!
I read your post about the error code "0xc19a0023" you are receiving, along with the message that there is a problem with the printhead. To be frank with you, the troubleshooting steps you have tried for this type of issue have been all completed. I would next suggest trying to call HP's Technical Support directly again to let them know about the error code and the steps you have tried, and they will most likely issue a replacement printer.

  • HT3798 my 1 week old new ipod classic doesnt seem to play certain albums/songs that play fine in itunes and fine on my old ipod. any ideas why?

i have just purchased a new ipod classic about a week ago and it wont play certain songs/albums and stops them halfway through the track. if you fast forward past the spot it plays and it plays perfectly on itunes and on my old i[od. any ideas?? HELP

Since the iPod is only a week old, I would consider returning it to Apple or wherever you purchased it from and showing them what is happening.  If they decide that the unit is faulty, they'll swap it out for you at no cost.

  • My 15" MBP is two weeks old but battery capacity is already lowering significantly?

I've had my 15" MBP for about two weeks now and CoconutBattery is already telling me that the capacity is down to 95% (design capacity - 6900 mAh, current capacity - 6586 mAh) Also, the details show that the battery is 19 weeks old and has gone through 23 battery loadcycles. I also just unplugged my laptop from a full charge and after less than 45 minutes of simple web browsing, it has already fallen to 67%. While I do use my laptop quite a bit, I've always used Macbooks because I find the battery life to be pretty durable for the machine. I only had to change my pre-2008 Macbook Pro battery once in almost 4 years. Can someone tell me if something seems wrong and should I contact AppleCare about it?

Why do people always recommend to recalibrate the battery and then link that document from apple about calibrating the battery that specifically states that the batteries are pre calibrated???
    "Portables with built-in batteries
Current Apple portable computer batteries are pre-calibrated and do not require the calibration procedure outlined in this article. These computers use batteries that should be replaced only by an Apple Authorized Service Provider."

  • Apps won't open, restored, 2days later same trouble. Did I buy a lemon, only one week old

Downloaded apps will not open, preinstalled do. iPod less than a week old. Have updated. Restored 2days ago for same problem. Now same problem. Also FaceTime will not work. Please help. Did I get a lemon?

Try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.
There's more to try but let's go a bit at a time.
