Ipod became disconnected during restore.

i was int he middle of a restore that seemed to be taking forever to finish at the end. i kind of forgot it was still going on and ended up restarting my computer. when the do not disconnect display went away the apple boot up screen came on and then went to a picture of a plug in a wall. i took this to mean hook it back up to a charge so i hooked it back up to the computer real quick. it started to restet itself but just got stuck on the apple screen for a while and then went blank. now i cant get it to reset and it does nothing when i plug it in to a wall adapter or to my computer. anyone experience anything like that or have any suggestions?

I Understand, but the basic steps there are for an iPOd that has not completly had its software installed on it, or has became corrupt. this is what happened when you was restoring it and then restarted, it didn't install the iPOds software COMPLETLY onto the iPod.
I'll describe the basics of what you will be doing here tho. First with the iPOd disconnected from the PC, put it into "Disk Mode" as described at this link (Right click the link and hit Open in new window so you can continue reading this post) http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
Now with it in disk mode, you will run the latest iPOd updater which is 03-23-2006 (If you do not have this version it can be downloaded here http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/ ) Connect the iPod to the PC while its in disk mode and run the updater/restore on it.

  • IPod Touch freezing during restore

I have a 16GB iPod Touch 2nd generation and I am trying to install OS 4.0 and it's been an absolute nightmare. I downloaded the new software (which took quite a while since it kept giving me an error which made me restart the download like 4 times).
So now I'm in the process of actually INSTALLING that software. When I plug my iPod Touch into iTunes it says it sees the iPod is in recovery mode and asks me to restore my ipod (the only option it is allowing me to access is the "Restore" button, so all the "Update" errors are out of the question here).
When I "restore" my iPod however, the process get's about 1/4 of the way through before it freezes and the progress indicator on my iPod AND the progress indicator in iTunes stays at the same place and doesn't move. Even after letting it sit ALL night last night (about 8 hours) it STILL hadn't moved when I woke up this morning.
Any suggestions on how I could fix this?

    I may have a solution...
I phoned Apple Support this evening around 7pm and they were really helpful. My ipod is at least back on - albeit with everything wiped - but it's currently resyncing.
They walked me through these steps:
    1. Quit iTunes (Force Quit if you have to)
    2. Disconnect the ipod from your computer
    3. Create a new user account (I named mine Dummy)
    4. Log out and log in to the new User account
    5. Press and hold the power button on the iPod to turn the thing off - if it doesn't go off, then press the home button briefly as well so that it does.
    6. Open iTunes
    7. reconnect the iPod to your computer and once the usb cable is inserted fully, press the home button on the ipod to switch it on
    8. iTunes should detect the iPod and offer to restore it. Accept the restore option.
    9. iTunes will download the software (took about 10 minutes for me - 315Gb) and then you need to follow the instructions and accept the software license agreement.
    10. In iTunes, you should see the "restoring iPod Software", "verifying iPod software", etc and once done your iPod should run good as new.
Safely disconnect the iPod (make sure you eject it first), log out of the dummy account and back into your regular one. Open iTunes, reconnect your iPod and iTunes should start to restore the iPod from the backup made earlier.
Be patient with that last one if you've got a lot of data backed up!
I really hope this helps others - my backup restoration still hasn't finished yet, but it's looking promising. I performed all this on a MacBook Pro, but from the way the support lady kept thinking I was running Windoze, I guess the same process will work in that OS too.
Oh - and phoning Apple support didn't cost me a penny despite being well outside the 90 days... in fact, because I'd never called them before, they granted me a 45 day warranty and offered me the option of taking out an extended 12 months too (for £39). I haven't taken them up on that yet, but seriously thinking about it - seems cheaper than buying a new iPod...
    Peace

  • [solved] iPod Classic disconnects during transfer

if I transfer more than a couple songs at a time, my iPod Classic 160GB disconnects during transfer. on Lubuntu, I could get away with about 40 tracks at a time, now it disconnects if I do more than a couple. I'm not sure the issue, lsusb says I'm using a usb 2.0 port
    [ tye@t: ~ ]$ lsusb -s 001:008 -v | grep -i bcdusb
    bcdUSB 2.00
one more detail: when the USB disconnects during transfer, it's no longer visible in lsusb, where as when I eject it it still remains visible.

  • HT201413 ipod powers off during restore

Cannot get my ipod touch to restore.  It powers off during restoration.  Is this normal?

    Hi tckm,
A restart is normal, as in step 4 here:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414
However, if the device is powering off and staying off, this article is probably the way to go:

    I hope this helps!

  • HT201269 Iphone disconnected during restore.

I just received a new iphone. I went to restore the phone using itunes. During this time my phone disconnected.
I reconnected it and now it is recognised as my phone in itunes and says 'your iphone is up to date' etc, yet my phone is still on the start up screen.
Im not sure whether to click 'restore' again in risk of loosing all my photos etc?

Yours will be a bit different because we can't force the phone to restart by holding both buttons.
You can try and put it into 'recovery mode' which is slightly different from 'DFU mode'
    Try the following:
    1) Let the battery run out
    2) Plug the phone in (so it powers on), do not have the phone connected to a computer as this will try something else
    3) As soon as the screen comes on press and hold the home button (make take 30 seconds)
    4) Wait for it to pop up with a symbol showing to connect to iTunes
    5) Try to restore in iTunes
    -Dib.

  • Iphone was disconnected during restore

I had a problem with the iphone3.  I was doing a backup and restore and my child disconnected the phone during the process. So now I have a white apple with a hollow line (empty progress bar) but I cannot turn it off or do anything at all. I took out the card but it makes no difference. Any idea how I can get the restore redone?  Thanks

  • Ipod keeps disconnecting during sync

Just adding my issues to the pile. Same as many other, I consistently have my 80GB Classic ipod disconnect with the "wrong volume in disk" message. It will make it through about 2100 of the songs before it stalls out and disconnects.
Every time it happens, the ipod gets stuck in sync mode, even after ejecting the ipod in itunes, and I have to disconnect it. When the ipod comes back up, there are usually 0 to 7 songs on it, and when I connect it to itunes, it shows 15GB of "Other" data, which is what should have been the songs.
I have tried the fix apple posted for the -50 error, didn't work.
    I've tried syncing automatically
I've tried syncing manually (both in one large batch, and in many multiple smaller batches).
I've tried turning off album art prior to syncing.
I've tried syncing across USB 1.1 and 2.0, both with older ipod cables, the new cable that came with the classic, and a 3rd party cable.
I've tried IDing the specific songs that are loading when the ipod hangs and disconnects, thinking they might be corrupt, and then deleting them, and after restoring the ipod and syncing again, it will hang again, this time with a song that loaded just fine the previous time, so there appears to be no rhyme or reason to it as far as the song files are concerned.
I'm about to try uninstalling and reinstalling itunes, but I doubt it will help.
How did things get so bad from the 5.5 to the classic? This is crazy.

    Just an update:
I took the iPod to work where I have a much smaller library, about 5 GB (my iPod is an 80 GB model). I reset it and synced to the work computer and it worked. It seems that it can only handle a smaller database? I also ran some diagnostic tests ala
    http://www.methodshop.com/gadgets/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/index.shtml
It won't pass the FW / USB detect test. Perhaps the unit is faulty. In any case, my next step is to try to return it for exchange at Best Buy, though it is 5 days over the 30 day period. How convenient! Nothing about this exprience has been convenient. They should call this thing the iClod.

  • IPod Touch froze during restoration

I recently was given a first generation iPod Touch.  About 2 days ago I paid for the iOS 3.1 download and started the process.  It seems that everything worked fine on the computer, but my iPod froze during the process on the iPod screen with the apple and loading bar.  Today, I tried to hook it back to iTunes to finish the process, and all it would do is sync with the screen still frozen.  I tried today to restore it, and it got stuck on the same screen as it's been frozen on with the loading bar a little further than before.
Do you know what's wrong with it? What should I do?
    Thanks so much!

I don't think this is an individual hardware problem as so many people have reported the same incident and plenty others probably don't know about the site. I am having this problem with itunes 8.1. While my ipod touch is recognized by it perfectly my 60gb ipod video is not recognized by it. I have tried all the recommended solutions in the support section and nothing helps. Apple needs to fix this problem ASAP.

  • Ipod is frozen during restore.

My ipod said it couldn't restore and is stuck in the restore state.  when i turn on my ipod the creen shows a usb connecting to itunes.  But when i connect it to itunes it doesn't show on itunes.

How about if you try placing the iPod into DFU mode as described here.
    http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=1034
Or use this program to put the iPod into recovery mode.

  • IPod Touch freezes during restore

Last night I was on the Maps app (the one that came w/ the iPod) and I was typing in an address then my iPod(2g) flashed a white screen on me and got stuck in an infinite reboot loop (boots up w/ the apple, then flashes a white screen, then reboots). Then I tried restarting it manually and it didn't work. I did the thing where you force into the screen w/ the usb cable into the itunes icon (DFU mode?). I tried restoring it and waited for 3.1.3 to download (I was running 3.1.2 i think) and it was working until it showed the apple w/ an empty loading bar. I unplugged it and replugged it and it didn't do anything so I guess it froze. I put it back into DFU mode(?) and keep trying to restore it, but every time I keep getting a frozen ipod w/ the apple and a frozen "spinning" circle and my itunes giving me the 1603 error. I tried a lot of solutions from the internet like restoring to a previous version, that doesn't work. I tried Apple's troubleshoot page too. My warranty is also over, so... Any thoughts?

When you installed Leopard, did you do a Clean "Archive" install or an upgrade? If you did an upgrade, you may want to consider backing up all of your files and then doing a clean install of Leopard. That usually fixes issues with programs crashing/freezing.
Before you try a clean install of Leopard though, have you tried just reinstalling iTunes?

  • My iPod Shuffle can't restore on iTunes.

When I plug it into the PC the orange light starts flashing and it shows up on iTunes, it tells me to restore my iPod, but when I try to restore it comes up as an ''Error 2005''. I've tried all the different USB ports on my PC and tried uninstalling iTunes and nothing has worked.

    Hey Drsockmonster,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
This article has some more steps to try for the error code you are getting.
Resolve specific iTunes update and restore errors
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3694#2000
    Check USB connections
    Related errors: 13, 14, 1600, 1601, 1602, 1603, 1604, 1611, 1643-1650, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2009, 4000, 4005, 4013, 4014, 4016, “invalid response,” and being prompted to restore again after a restore completes.
If there’s an issue with the USB port, cable, dock, or hub, or if the device becomes disconnected during restore, try troubleshooting the USB connection, then troubleshooting your security software.
To narrow down the issue, you can also change up your hardware:
    Use another USB cable.
Plug your cable into a different USB port on your computer.
Try a different dock connector (or no dock).
Add (or remove) a USB hub between your device and computer.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, with no routers, hubs, or switches.
If you checked your connections and are still seeing the error message, check for hardware issues.
    Have a nice day,
    Mario

  • HT201413 I keep error 9 when i try to restore my Ipod 5.It seems to be that my device disconnects during the restore process, then error messege pops up. I have updated the security settings on my pc and it still doesn't work.

Error 9 pops up when trying to restore Ipod 5. The problem seems to be that my ipod disconnects during the restore process. My ipod is stuck in restore mode so I can't access its update serever. I have already updated my pc and its security settings. Is there anything else i can try?

    Hello AS234,
This error is typically indicative of a conflict with installed security software.
    Configure your security software
Check your security software and settings, which can block ports and prevent connection to Apple servers during update and restore.
    Common errors: 2, 4, 6, 9, 1000, 1611, 9006, 9807, 9844. Sometimes as a result of this issue, a device might stop responding during the restore process.

my ipod touch accidentally disconnected during sync, after that it wont sync at all. although it appears to be syncing on both the computer and ipod, it rushes through "determining which tracks to sync' step and no changes are actually made.i restarted both and reset the ipod. i checked to see that the computer recognizes the ipod (yes) and tried to sync over wifi with the same result...(i am afraid to retore to factory original beacuse the problem is about transferring from th computer itunes to the ipod)

There is no good way for yur problem since iTunes sees the iPOd.  Yu can ry removing and reinstalling all the Apple software using:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
However, I suspect a restor, first try from backup, is required.

  • During restore iPod stuck on RESTORING IPOD FIRMWARE

As stated by me above, during restore iPod got stuck on RESTORING IPOD FIRMWARE. Last time tried different computer, it did work. Next, with different firmware file (when the-other-computer-trick stopped working) like 2.0.2 and then upgrading it - worked for a time. Now, I cannot find ANY way to restore it. Just by itself it accidentally and randomly enters the so called DFU mode and this time I just cannot restore it, every time it's stuck on RESTORING IPOD FIRMWARE

try have it restored in an apple store mate..
if that still doesnt work, send it back and have it replaced..
