IPod Beeps instead of Clicks

Just recently as I was using my ipod (10G w/Dock) it all of a sudden started making high pitched beeps instead of the normal clicks when I'd press any of the buttons. The functionality is all funky now and it doesn't go to sleep so the battery runs out if it's not docked. I have tried reseting, updating, and restoring but to no avail. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I am not too sure, but it could be the time for the battery replacement, normally, the battery need to be replaced around 18-24 months

4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
6. Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
For Window computer
Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset

A. Diagnostic mode solution
If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.

I have not tried this solution myself, I heard that there were few successful cases that the users managed to get their iPod (you must put your iPod in disk mode before connecting with a computer) mounted by the computer, which was booted by a system startup disk. For Mac, you can use the Disk Utility (on the Tiger OS system disk), for PC user, you can use the window OS system disk. Try to find a way to reformat your iPod, again it does not matter which format (FAT32, NTFS or HFS+) you choose, the key is to erase the corrupted system files on the iPod. Reboot your computer at the normal way, connect your iPod back with it, open the iPod updater, and hopefully your iPod will appear there for the Restore.

Have I tried these myself? No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. The audio goes BEEP BEEP BEEP instead of playing the soundtrack

Hello again, from me who am still a newbie.
I have some footage taken on a different camera from mine, in DV not HD fomat, PAL still, which was imported using iMovie 08 and which plays happily in that sw. In FCE when I play it in the viewer it's all fine. If I select a part, and put it on the timeline, and then play bthe timeline I get BEEP BEEP BEEP instead of hearing the people speaking, as I can in the viewer.
What am I doing wrong?
Secondly- if I may - once I can hear the voices and not the beeps, I need to rip out the soundtrack and convert it to mp3. What would be the best way to do this?

First I'd try rendering the audio. Sequence -> Render All -> Audio. But, if you're going to be working with the audio track, you should make the file match FCE's needs.
Now, that you ask, I don't think I've ever done this. I just did a quick test and this worked for me. De-link the audio and video tracks by clicking the small green chain icon on the right side of the timeline. It's just above the video tracks. Then single click the audio track you want to work one. From the File -> Export -> Quicktime movie. Name your file. Then open the file in Audacity and save it as a 48,000 Hz AIFF file. Back in FCE, import and place the audio track where you need it.
I did not try this, but I think it'll work if you have FCE version 3.5 and Soundtrack. From the file menu, export as a Soundtrack file. Make the changes in Soundtrack and the file should be automatically changed in FCE.

Beeping instead of audio

I have an old imovie project and I imported the clip through the finder, into final cut 6.
when I click play on the left hand video window I hear Beeps instead of the audio
why is this and how do i fix it

The beeping means your audio is unrendered. Michael is probably right - iMovie uses .dv files a lot.
Just render the audio (in the Sequence menu). If you're going to be doing much editing with this though, you should transcode the file first as Michael said, to avoid re-rendering every time you make an edit.

3G iPod; Apple Logo-Whirr-Click-Repeats

I have a 3g iPod which has worked flawlessly for many years. I did replace the battery once and got several more years out of it. Recently, I got an iPhone and had to update my iTunes to version 7.7.1. The very first time I connected the 3G iPod to sync, iTunes recognized the iPod, I dragged a playlist to the iPod, it copied the files over, then while I was still connected gave me an illegal removal error message for about 1 second. The iPod promptly disappeared from iTunes and then proceeded to perform a start-up loop where the apple logo would appear, the HD would start up and then about 5 seconds later would click, the apple logo would disappear and then it would repeat this loop. I briefly also got a low battery error for a split second but the iPod has been in a dock charger for months(I use it only as an alarm clock/bedside music player). I tried to go through the 5Rs but to no avail. I also ran it in diagnostic mode and the HD is fine.
It's almost as if iTunes 7.7.1 just zapped it. This is the only thing I have done differently with it. Please help I know my old 3G, that I dearly love is in there somewhere.

I sold this ipad to a friend and now it shows she only has IOS 4.2 and therefore can not load apps. It also shows an ipod icon instead of a music icon. It the reason she is having problems the version of itunes downloaded. And is it possible her old dell computer can't load a newer version of iTunes?

The Version of Itunes is not the problem. Its the version of IOS. 4.2 is quite old.
She'll need to connect the iPad to her PC running the iTunes desktop Application. doesn't matter if its slightly older, to update to a newer version of IOS on the iPad.
Also assuming her Dell isn't really really old.. I'm sure she can run the newest version if the iTunes Desktop Application just fine. As the Requirements aren't really all that high.

You need to select your iPod in iTunes. The command (from the menu bar?) is disabled because you have not selected a device for which the command is applicable.
The latest iTunes may hide the sidebar. To show the sidebar, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar. In the sidebar, find and select the iPod under DEVICES.
Once the iPod is selected, you can select the Sync command under File -> Devices in the menu bar. You can also just click the Sync button at the bottom left corner of the iTunes window (when the iPod is selected).

Well, if you have not backed them up, they are gone.

It sounds like you need to set it up, and that makes sense because you said that its a new iPod. Just go through the steps of setting up a new iPod and you should be good.

The 5 Step troubleshooting didn't work and now my iPod is making a clicking sound. What should I do?

My iPod froze while loading a song. I held down the center button and Menu to restart it. An O with an X in the middle appeared, and the link to Apple's support site. I followed the link and tried the troubleshooting steps for my iPod (An 80gb iPod classic). Toggling and restarting both brought me back to the same O & X screen. I tried plugging my iPod into my laptop to see if it needed charging (it was fully charged this morning, but maybe it had gone off in my bag?) My laptop does not recognize that my iPod is plugged in, and my iPod is now making clicking sounds. The O X screen reappeared and then shorted out. If I try restarting again the same thing happens. What should I do?

A better way is to select the photos in iPhoto and export to a desk top folder, right click on it and burn to disk

You can't with the built-in Mail app. There may be third-party email apps in the App Store that have a password option, or you could access your account via Safari - go to your host's login page and then create a homescreen shortcut for it via the 'share' icon (the square with the upward pointing arrow), tapping on that homescreen shortcut will open Safari on your login page.
