IPod being filled with 2.4GB of Other?

Hi, I have a second generation 8 GB iPod touch. Recently, I've been trying to sync my iPod, but it always says "iTunes did not sync... [the app I wanted the most] because there is not enough room". I look at the bar at the bottom, and discover it's filled it with 2.4GB of yellow other. What is this 'Other' stuff, and how do I get rid of it to sync my iPod?
Thanks.

Some say the "other" includes data and corrupted files. Restoring from backup usually helps but sometimes restoring to factory defaults is needed.

  • How will my iPod by filled with 80GB of music?

    Hello,
I plan to buy an iPod Touch 64GB.
My MP3 library on computer is 80GB large.
I would like to fill my iPod with the much music as possible. How will my iPod be filled? Do I have to choose manually which albums are to be copied / not to be copied, etc. ? Will it be easy ? Or is it an algorithm in iTunes which will decide for me which albums will be copied , and those who won't be copied.
    Thanks, mil

  • When I open a new tab, I want it to be blank instead of being filled with advertisements.

When I attempt to open a new tab for an additional site (to be selected from the bookmarks), it opens with some 15 thumbnails of predetermined suggestions calle "Visual bookmarks". This has started recently; before, it was actually opening with empty contents, i.e., blank. I think this is due to some application I downloaded (probably Yandex). Although I uninstalled that application, the new tab still opens with this content. I tried to solve the problem through Options command of Tools menu but to no awail. Please advise. Thanks and best regards.

A new tab opens by default as a blank tab (about:blank).

Is this relevant, and how can it be fixed? My syslog is growing abnormally large due to this.

I'm having the same onslaught of errors, with the 10 second hangs, also on 10.9.1. I did not have hardware acceleration enabled, and safe mode made no difference. Any ideas?

  • Display Field Filled With 'New Item' when Blank

    Hi all,
I am facing a Strange Problem.
When i try to create a Record Via DM, When a DF is Blank and once the record is saved it is being filled with a text called 'New Item'..This is Occuering siometimes when i create and sometimes not.
There is a validation which will not allow to leave it blank, but the validation is not executing properly as the Field is filled with text 'New Item' Some times (Which inturn says it is not NULL)
How to get rid of this issue.
I need this Feild to be DF Because i need to include this field in Email notification.
In production the records will be created via Portal.
I am worried if this will be replicated via Portal!!
    Can anyone suggest me..
    KR
    John

    Hi John,
Yes you are correct. When your field is a  display field & if you dont enter data in it while creating record, MDM will add default value "New Item" in it. (even if you create record from Portal same thing will happen)
If you want to write Not Null validation on this field below is the work around:
Enable the Required property for your field in console.
But Required property in console works only when u write validation in Data manager.
The default REQUIRED_FIELDS validation does not work if your required field is also a Display field
You need to write addition condition along with REQUIRED_FIELDS.
When you try to create record without entering data in display field, MDM will add default value "New Item" if field lengh is equal to or more than 8 ( or "New It" if legth is 6 for example)
So copy the value which you will get in ur display field and use it as shown below:-
REQUIRED_FIELDS AND Name < >"New Item" (Here Name is considered as display field) (REQUIRED_FIELDS you need to type in expression window)
Or if you dont want to enable required property Then just add Name <> "New Item" validation in your existing expression (Here Name is considered as display field)
    Thanks,
    Mahi

  • I'm using Win 7 and Firefox Screen fills with horizontal lines,

Had no problems with previous versions of FF. I updated with FFv4 several weeks ago and have my browser screen continually being filled with horizontal lines. I can remove some of them by using the vertical scroll bar but they return when the display contains a lot of text. Sometimes when display is pictures or videos I am spared. This never occurred before FFv4. If a screen contains a few pictures and is engulfed in lines I can scroll it with my mouse and some pictures reappear but there are still lines over the rest of the display. I use an antivirus (BitDefender) and scan regularly. I also use Windows Defender for protection which was recommended by my AV manufacturer.
Sometimes of late I have noticed that when the display is no maximized the problem doesn't happen as often. I use a 19" monitor.
So far tonight while writing this note I haven't experienced a problem but the window is not set to max.

I had this problem as well. For me, the solution was to disable the two latest add-ons I had installed: Cooliris and HP Detect (I have a Pavilion dm1z). The issue with horizontal lines went away after restarting the browser.

  • System Log file filled with arp message from teamed nics

    Hello,
We are running a Win2k3 server with dual nics teamed to one IP address. All of our Mac's system logs are being filled with the following message:
    Mar 28 12:48:58 Son-of-Spacedog kernel[0]: arp: 192.168.200.50 moved from 00:04:23:b9:00:4a to 00:04:23:b9:00:4b on en0
This is repeated over and over. Is there any way to get the Mac's to stop generating this message? Is the fix for this on the server side or on the Mac side? From what I have seen online in other forums, this started happening with Panther.

There are actually several different types of NIC Teaming Modes:
Adapter Fault Tolerance (AFT) - provides automatic redundancy for a server's network connection. If the primary adapter fails, the secondary adapter takes over. Adapter Fault Tolerance supports two to eight adapters per team. This teaming mode works with any hub or switch, and all team members must be connected to the same device.
Switch Fault Tolerance (SFT) - provides a failover relationship between two adapters when each adapter is connected to a separate switch. Switch Fault Tolerance supports two adapters per team. This feature works with any switch. Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) must be enabled when you create a team in SFT mode.
Adaptive Load Balancing (ALB) - provides load balancing for transmission traffic and adapter fault tolerance. You can also enable or disable receive load balancing (RLB) in ALB teams. This teaming mode works with any switch.
Fast EtherChannel/Link Aggregation - provides increased transmission and reception throughput in a team of two to eight adapters. This mode also includes adapter fault tolerance and load balancing (only routed protocols). This requires a switch with Link Aggregation or FEC capability.
Gigabit EtherChannel/Link Aggregation - is the gigabit extension of the FEC/Link Aggregation/802.3ad: static mode. All team members must operate at gigabit speed.
IEEE 802.3ad: dynamic mode - creates one or more teams using dynamic Link Aggregation with same-speed or mixed-speed adapters. Like the static Link Aggregation modes, Dynamic 802.3ad teams increase transmission and reception throughput and provide fault tolerance. This mode requires a switch that fully supports the IEEE 802.3ad standard.
Now, most likely, somewhere on the network a server is configured for ALB or AFT, and these are the most common methods of NIC teaming (Sadly, the XServes do not). They also do not require any certain type of switch, but they do require STP (Spanning Tree Protocol) to be turned off to function most effectively, or you will see errors on the network like the ones you are seeing in your log. Most managed switches come with STP turned on by default, so you will need to check ALL switches (as the errors will cascade throughout the network) to see if it STP is turned on. Most people do not use STP any more (it basically allows ports on one switch to appear as on another switch), so see if you can turn it off. That should stop the error messages.

My iPhone 4 says that there is not enough memory to download apps like Facebook and Instagram. When plugged into iTunes it says that >4GB is filled with "other". How do I clear the "other"?  What is this?

Other is usually around 1 GB...
A  ' Large Other ' usually indicates Corrupt Data...
First Try a Restore from Backup... But... if the Large Other Persists, that is an Indicator of Corrupt Data in the Backup... Then a Restore as New is the way to go...

  • IPod Not being recognized with all the software updates

I've been without my iPod for a few weeks now and I desperately want it back. I dropped it a while back, and have come online to look up stuff to restore it, but none of that is working for me. I reset it by pressing "menu" and "Play" at the same time, then put it into disk mode by pressing the "ff" and "rwd" buttons together, but even in disk mode my computer is not recognizing it at all. The iPod screen says that it is in disk mode, and says it's okay to disconnect, but its not giving me the option to restore when I connect it to my computer and open the iPod updater.
It also gives me the file folder w/ an exclamation point whenever i don't put it into disk mode. And the few times that my computer does pick up something the iPod updater flashes a message that says "Can't Mount iPod" and then the updater manually closes itself. Anyone know what to do?
    Thanks
20GB with Dock Connector   Windows XP

For "Cant mount iPod" - please try the following first
    Click on Start=>Control Panel=>Admin Tools=>Computer Management=>Disk Management
-- Right-Click on the iPod and select “change drive letter”
-- Choose something further along in the alphabet that is unused (Usually, “M”, “N”, “O” or something similar)
    -- Safely eject the iPod
    -- Reboot the PC
If still cant solve it then
The Sad iPods icon, clicking sound or folder with an exclamation mark are the toughest problems to deal with, and must do a Restore in order to fix it. However, when your iPod is showing this icon, it is probably too late for your computer to recognize the iPod.
    1. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
    2. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
    Still can't see your iPod?
Several things could keep iPod from appearing in iTunes or in the Desktop/Finder when you connect it to your PC/Mac. The most likely causes are listed below in logical order. Check from the top of the list to see if that is what's keeping iPod from appearing.
    3. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    4. Try another known-good FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    5. Try another known-good FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    6. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    7. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. We've found that in many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
There are also some cases being reported that some unrecognized iPod being able to be erased with Linux, then reconnect the iPod with the original computer and do a Restore there.
    8. Try to do an Erase (Disk Utility) on a Mac computer or a format with a PC (Disk Management tool) but ensure you choose the right Drive (your iPod not your Hard Disk of your computer). You may need to plug and unplug your iPod with the computer for several attempts, and switching around Format and Restore, and hope out of sudden, it will get recognized.
    9. Diagnostic mode solution – which I copied from a thread of a post from thinktwice
“Then I cam across this special Diganostics Mode that you can get to by resetting and then while the Apple is showing pressing the Select and backwards keys simultaneously. It bring up and weird Diagnostic utility witha a abunch of tests. Here is what I did
    - I tried the 5in1 test and got and error on Firewire.
    - I did the HDD R/W and surprisingly it passed.
    - I went on to the HDD scan. This supposedly tkaes acouple of minute so I waited. I think 4-5 dots appeared then nothing. The iPod started to get hot. THe disk was spinning away. After a while the battery got very low. THis test chews up the battery. So I escaped out by resetting and went to connect it to a power source.
My USB was dangling out of my computer and I was too lazy to get the Firewire AC adapter thing going so I connected expecting the whole lockup thing with iTunes. Surprise. IT was recognized immediately and has been working like a champ. So go figure.
Details on Diag mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/index.shtml
    10. Let me ask you a question, if an iPod with no iPod software with it. When your connect it with a computer, what would happen?
Yeah, the computer will treat it as a fresh external hard disk, which will get force mounted, the computer will ask you to format the iPod. It does not really matter the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted iPod software on the iPod, after that the computer will recognize it.
Once it has been completed, eject your iPod, open the iPod updater and interestingly, you will able to do the Restore this time.
Base on the above, that's why I suggest Windows users who experience trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac machine or vice versa. PC computer will not recognize a Mac formatted iPod, but it will get mounted in an attempt to format your iPod.
    11. Put your iPod in disk mode and plug with a computer, and have a boot of your computer using the Mac OS or XP startup disks, hope that your iPod will be seen on Mac's Disk utility and allow you to do a Erase there. Or, under the XP, you will be able to find your iPod there for you to do a Restore.
But, if none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired. You can arrange for service at the iPod Service Website.
I have just read an interesting solution about the Sad iPod, it does make sense but the warranty will be waived once you open the iPod, I would not do it myself as I am not good on doing this

  • Ipod classic full with "other files", restoring not helping.

    Hi.
I've read other threads about this problem on various devices. It's an 80GB ipod, 37 with music, 35.5 GB of other.  I've restored it, and it fills with other files again when I do the new long sync. It's not enabled for disk mode or manual syncing. Windows autoplay opens when I plug it in, though, which is strange.  I've looked at the ipod in Windows explorer and there is a folder with 35.3 GB of data: in multiple folders of 3.95GB. Those folders have long serial-number-like names. No music seen from winows explorer, but it's there on the ipod.  Not even seen in hidden folders: weird.
Sometimes when windows recognizes the ipod on plug-in, it says the disk should be scanned and fixed. I think I did it eventually, although I felt that all tinkering should happen from within itunes.
I am not syncing photos, notes, calendar, contacts, or anything other than music and podcasts. my podcasts are not so many.
So I took a leap and deleted the 35.3-GB file from within Windows explorer. It seems to have worked: itunes and the ipod now shows that space as free.
I have no idea what all this is about, or how it happened. I'm sharing this to contribute to the conversation, since it's helped me to read other folks' posts.
    Any ideas?  Speak up...

    Wow: got another solution.
CrashPlan, the backup software, thought my ipod was drive E:\ and was backing up my computer to it.  Crazy!
In case anyone else has this issue: check your backup software!

  • Can I shut off wifi to prevent my ipod touch music library from being tampered with?

I switched to a different media source but once more my CD music disappeared. But instead of being corrupted this time it was converted to other. It was fixed by just pulling up the music app list and unchecking/checking the songs again thankfully though.. But if I shut off my wi-fi on my ipod will this prevent my cd music on my touch from being messed with?
I already got off the phone with a rep two days ago and they scratched their heads as to what's even causing this. We did everything known to fix it, and after looking at the numerous threads now its obvious it isn't just a hardware issue. Everyone is having issues with their cd music. I'd rather just have this nightmare end by any means possible.

I doubt wifi has anything to do with  unless yo have the iPod and iTunes setup to sync via wifi.
To turn wifi off place the iPod in airplane mode.

  • 80g Ipod crashes Itunes after being filled up past 11.6 gigs.

    Hi there,
The ipod in question refuses to fill up past 11 gigs and when it gets to that point it just stops transferring, ultimately resulting in itunes crashing.
Has anyone else had this problem or a possible solution? I've tried restoring and erasing the drive using disc utility.
    Cheers.

Yes I have a similar problem, though mine gets to about 13GB before freezing. Is yours also 6th generation iPod classic? When did this problem start for you?
This only happened since I upgraded to iTunes 9. I suspect that when iTunes 9 said my iPod was corrupt and forced me to restore it via iTunes 9 this put some kind of virus on my iPod which prevents the harddrive from skipping bad sectors (as it had done perfectly well prior to the forced upgrade with iTunes 9). Presumably my bad sectors are at 13GB and yours are at 11GB?
Anyone have any great ideas to fix this? I have tried everything possible (reformatting, erasing data etc etc) but something is preventing me from reverting back to my pre-iTunes 9 state of having a working iPod not a very expensive brick.

  • What is the recalled iPod nano being replaced with

What is the recalled iPod nano being replaced with

I sent my 1st generation nano back on Monday and got my replacement today (Thursday).  Apple is FAST! Kudos for great customer service.  However, I also got the 6th gen. silver 8gb nano like deggie said although I didn't know that it was refurbished and I am very disappointed.  This is the super-tiny nano that I'm guessing no one liked because they redesigned it after 1 generation.  If they were sending refurbished nanos, I would have much preferred any generation but the 3rd or 6th generation or at least the option of choosing from what was available.  All of the others look very similar to the 1st generation which I really liked.  That said, the 6th gen. does have more memory than my original and has some additional features but I think I would have rather kept my old one.  I said I think because I haven't used the "new" one and I might get used to it.  Something to consider if you are happy with your 1st generation nano.
