Ipod being recognized as a digital camera

After months of perfectly sound use in syncing etc suddenly my ipod is being recognized as a digital camera. I have followed all the instructions in the help sections, I have been to the Authorized service centre, I and the service centre have removed itunes several times and started and restared everything sooooo many times and we have reverted to old versions of itunes too. Still the ipod is being recognized as a camera.
no one seems to know why this has happened nor how to correct it.
HELP !!!!!!! (please)

  • Ipod touch being recognized as a Digital Camera by PC

    This is very bizarre.
I connected my ipod touch to my PC and it gets recognized as a Digital Camera. Windows reads it as, and I kid you not, Apple Ipod Digital Camera. Itunes doesn't recognize the device, but upon connecting my ipod touch to the PC the Cannon EOS photo utility starts up...ready and willing to import my pictures.
Strange as this is, it gets even more weird...
For some odd reason now I can not even go on to the apple site. I thought since my itunes isn't up to date to the latest version that maybe the problem so I proceeded to update itunes but now the apple site won't load. It was working fine the day before. I thought maybe the site was down (I have never known the apple site to be down) so I decided to ask a couple of online buddies to visit www.apple.com and they reported as the site loading and operating fine.
    What gives???
I rechecked the minimum requirements and it states that I need xp service pack 2 and USB 2.0 to operate properly. I don't have sp2 installed on my XP, but my 30gig 5th generation ipod states the same requirements (The ipod touch is my 3rd ipod) and it works absolutely perfect each time on the same PC.
Why would my ipod touch have an identity crisis and why would it block it's parent site?
Help anyone? The customer service rep at the Apple store was completely baffled.

Check your iTunes version - although your 5th gen works with older iTunes versions, at least 7.4 is required for the IPT - older versions will not even recognize it.
As for the Apple site not working, there have been sporadic reports of that, no known reason, usually resolved in a few hours.
You could also try updating using Apple Software Update (usually found in Start > All Programs), or from within iTunes (Help menu > Check for Updates).
    Hope this helps...

  • My iTouch is being recognized as a digital camera and cant take out my music from it.

i have an iphone and an ITouch and also a Ipod nano and and i just got a brand new computer cause my old 1 died. i still have music in my ipod iTouch and iPhone. i want to fill my new laptop with music. but since my iTouch and iPhone are both being read as a digital camera i can only take out photos from both. witch right now i dont care about the photos. my iPod nano on the other hand is being read as a storage device meaning i can take out the music out of the nano. i want to make it so i can also take out my misic from my iTouch and iPhone. in need of assistance. tried a bunch of methods but im tired of it. im im going to need professional help.

    - It is normal and expected for the iPod to be seen as a camera
    - What do you mean " when I put it in hard disk mode"?  iPod touches do not have a disk mode.
    - Does the iPod show in iTunes?  If not try:

  • IPod Not Recognized Except as Digital Camera

OS: Windows Vista Home Premium, running Service Pack 1
System: Dell Inspiron 537s (brand new) 64-bit
    iPod: iTouch, version 2.2
When I plug my iTouch into our BRAND new computer, it only is recognized as a digital camera. It does not show up in iTunes. It doesn't show up in my Hardware list.
In Device Manager, it appears under "Portable Devices" but not under the expected "Universal Serial Bus controllers". I can't eject it from my computer properly because it does not appear on my Hardware list when plugged in.
    My Troubleshooting Attempts:
    1. I have restarted the ipod Touch
    2. I have tried different USB ports
    3. I have tried restarting my computer
    4. I have tried reinstalling iTunes
    5. The iPod is fully charged
    6. Both an iPod nano and an iPod classic were successfully recognized by both my computer and iTunes, but not the iPod touch.
    7. On our previous Windows XP computer the iPod touch worked fine. It is only having issues on this new computer. (I am no longer able to use the XP PC.) This iPod touch has been working fine until now, so I assume the issue is with the computer and not the iPod.
    8. The iTunes version installed as of an hour ago is version 8.2
    9. Apple Mobile Device service is working properly
    10. The Touch does not change screens when plugged into the computer, but it does recognize that it is plugged into a power source (visible on the battery indicator).
    11. I have tried updating the driver which seems to work for many people, but am unable to do so. I think that is where the problem lies, though...
When I look at the properties of the iPod in Device Manager, I get this information:
    Driver Provider: Microsoft
    Driver Date: 6/21/2006
    Driver Version: 6.0.6001.18000
    Digital Signer: microsoft windows
    Driver Files:
    C:\\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\UMDF\WpdMtpDr.dll
    C:\\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\WpdUsb.sys
    C:\\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\WYDFRd.sys
    C:\\Windows\system32\WpdConns.dll
    C:\\Windows\system32\WpdMtp.dll
    C:\\Windows\system32\WpdMtpUS.dll
I believe that my iTouch is using the incorrect drivers; from what I've read in some help forums it should be using the "usbaapl" drivers. However, I have tried to direct it to the correct drivers using the "Update Driver" option and it has not worked. My process:
    1. Update Driver Software
    2. Browse my computer for driver software (manually)
    3. Search for driver software in this location: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\DRVSTORE\usbaapl_872A2434B7205D4BD84BBE53811BDCE15F347D5B (this is where I have found the usbaapl drivers)
    4. Click "Next"
    5. This message appears:
The best driver software for your device is already installed.
Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date: "Digital Still Camera"
So now I am at a loss. Can anyone help me with this problem?

Unfortunately it didn't seem to work. The Touch appears in Computer under the category heading "Portable Devices" with the image of a digital camera, from there I can browse and find what is labeled as an "Internal Storage" drive. In that are a DCIM folder and a 100APPLE folder. I deleted all pictures from the 100APPLE folder but so far there's been no change. Restarted computer, Touch, iTunes...no luck.
As to the article, I've been through all the suggested steps. I have the driver USBAAPL.SYS installed, but my computer seems determined to use the WPDMTP driver in its place and I have no clue how to change its mind. There don't appear to be any errors in Event Viewer as Vista believes it is working properly.
Does anyone know of a way to force Vista to use the proper Apple driver instead of the Windows Portable Devices Media Transfer Protocol? I am pretty sure this is where the problem lies.

  • IPod Touch Recognized as a Digital Camera in Windows 7 (x64) - SOLUTION!

    Hi guys
After several days I finally found the solution to this with some help from Apple 2nd level support.
Symptom: iPod Touch is not connecting to iTunes. Under My Computer you find the iPod as a Portable Device > Digital Camera
Cause: Windows 7 wasn't able to install the right Driver for your Touch.
    Solution:
    1. Uninstall all the Apple software via Control Panel:
    - iTunes
    - Quicktime
    - Apple Software Update
    - Apple Mobile Device Support
    - Bonjour
    - Apple Application Support
    2. Delete all the directories related to Apple (Including Apple,iPod, iTunes, Quicktime and Apple Computer -if they are there-) under:
    - C:\Program File\Apple
    - c:\Program Files (x86)
    - C:\users\<USER>\AppData\Local
    - C:\users\<USER>\AppData\Roaming
    3. Restart
    4. Reinstall iTunes (Right click and run as Administrator) but THIS IS THE TRICK!! change the installation path to C:\program files\iTunes (Remove x86) !
    5. Connect ipod
It will still be a Camera..don't worry..
    6. Go to My Computer > right click > Manage > Device Managers > Find your ipod under the Portable Devices
    7. Right Click > Update driver > Specific location and browse C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device support\Drivers
    8. After succesfully installed this driver you will be able to see your iPod Touch in iTunes
    Enjoy !
    J

  • All of my iTunes music/apps have been deleted, and my iPod is being recognized as a digital camera by the computer. Help?

    Hi!
I went on my iTunes today, and it kept saying "
The itunes library file cannot be saved. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation" I restarted my computer and opened iTunes, only to find that all of my apps and songs have been deleted. When I plug in my iPod, it says that this iPod is registered with another computer. My computer, however, is recognizing my iPod as a digital camera, with the name of my father's iPod. I have no idea how to fix this and get all of my songs/apps back. Someone please help!

i  wanted to ask whether the camera for ipod touch comparable to a digital camera? if not are there apps available that can turn it into a digital camera? i want to buy an ipod touch and i like photography....what should i do? plz suggest

The iPod touch has a very rudimentary camera.  It has only a 0.6 MP resolution, no optical zoom, no flash, etc.   There is no app that can improve this as it is limited by the hardware. So it is not a replacement for a digital camera (nor even for an iPhone whose camera has a 5.0 MP resolution.

  • IPod Recognized as a digital camera

So I have an old 8gb ipod touch, and since my old computer crashed, I have reinstalled itunes on a new computer and want to sync my ipod with my new itunes, and access it through windows,  but my computer is recognizing it as a digital camera, and i cannot do anything with it. I have used this troubleshooting page, with no results: http://www.apple.com/support/ipodtouch/assistant/itunes/ . I was wondering if there is another way to fix the problem. I do have mcaffee antivirus on my computer so that is most likely the problem.

    First try disabling Mcaffee.

  • IPod being recognized as a different, non-iPod drive

When I connect my click-wheel pod, it's being recognized in iTunes 5 and 6 not as an iPod but as an entirely different USB drive that's occasionally plugged into the same USB port.
iTunes reports that the 20GB pod has no music on it and has 60GB of space on it. The second USB drive is a 60GB 2.5-inch hard drive. Interestingly, the name reported is not the name of the second USB drive or the iPod; rather, it's the name of an 80GB networked drive based elsewhere in a home network .
My system is an HP ze5570us laptop running Win XP Pro, service pack 2. The pod software is v3.0.2.
I've tried resetting the pod. It doesn't help. I've also tried using other USB ports. That also doesn't help.
Clearly there's an ID conflict somewhere but I've no idea how to resolve it. Suggestions are welcome.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
This is probably a drive letter conflict caused by your network drive. Check this: Strange iPod behaviour when Windows confuses iPod with network drive

  • Iphone recognized as a digital camera

my iphone is connected to my computer via usb and itunes does not recognize the device the computer thinks it is an iphone digital camera

It's okay that your computer thinks that your iPhone is a "digital still camera", however it does not use the Apple Mobile Device driver like it should. The solution is simple and doesn't require re-installing iTunes.
    1. Plug in your iPhone into any USB port.
    2. Go to Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager.
    3. Find 'iPhone', probably under 'imaging devices'.
    4. Right click on iPhone.
    5. Click on Update Driver, Install from a specific location, Don't search I will choose the driver to install.
    6. Find the folder with the iPhone driver. It is very likely that is in:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
    7. Use the text box to point to that iPhone driver directory.
    8. Open iTunes and your iPhone should show up in the Device section.
    Good luck!

  • IPhone 3GS not being recognized as a still camera in Windows

Hi, this is my first post ever!
My problem is that whenever I plug my iPhone 3GS in my PC (running Windows 8 Dev. preview) it isn't recognized as a still camera (or MTP device) so I'm not able to copy photos from the camera roll. The thing is it was working fine until yesterday. Note that iTunes syncing works perfectly. I've tried unistalling the drivers form the Device Manager, I've tried unistalling the USB controllers and then restarting etc. but nothing worked . I really need to fix this problem since I've got a lot of photos to transfer.

Connect it to another computer not running a Beta version of Windows, does it work correctly?
If so, the issue is with Windows.
If not, then you might actually have an issue with the device.

  • Video ipod being recognized as a photo ipod

Problem : I have a video ipod and in itunes when I try to transfer a video to the ipod it says it cannot be played on this ipod. When I try to edit the settings for videos for the ipod in itunes all the options are greyed out (I can't click anything). I'm assuming it's recognizing it as an older ipod, but I don't know how to fix this.
    Steps I've taken:
    1. Restore Ipod
    2. Reinsall itunes
    3. Reset Ipod
    4. Restart Computer
      Windows XP Pro

The settings are greyed out because you probably have your iPod set to manually manage your music.
If this is the case, then you need to manually manage your videos also (by Drag & Drop).
If you turn off manual updates for your audio, the video preferences will become selectable again.

  • IPod being recognized as being 185 GB and full...

So I plugged in my iPod to update this morning and first it said it was full and couldn't transfer, but more importantly it said it had a capacity of 185 GB. It changed the name it's recognized as too. I tried restoring factory settings, so now I have a blank iPod that my computer is still thinking is 185 GB. The iPod itself says that the settings are still 18.5 GB and empty. Any ideas or should I send it for service?

You have a mapped network drive that is using the same letter that the iPod is.
You can change the drive letter of the iPod using the Disk Management tool. Start->Control Panel->Admin Tools->Computer Management. Then select the Disk management tool, and change the drive letter of the iPod to one not in use.

  • IPod being recognized as flash drive??!!! HELP

I plugged my iPod in one day, (someone used it and accidently erased all the music off), and my Mac reads like a flash drive instead of an iPod. The iPod doesn't show up in iTunes, but iTunes does pop up when I plug my iPod in. My iPod says its connected to the computer and all, but its not being read as iPod. Can anyone help me? I have already reset my iPod and turned off the computer and everything, but it just won't work.

    Hello Erica,
    And welcome to  Discussions!
I would start with this Apple support document related directly to your issue.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1410
You may need to remove and re-install iTunes completely from Mac. Use this article to help you do this.

And if nothing else, reformat your iPod using *Disk Utility*. See this article of mine on how to do this.
