IPod being recognized as flash drive??!!! HELP

I plugged my iPod in one day, (someone used it and accidently erased all the music off), and my Mac reads like a flash drive instead of an iPod. The iPod doesn't show up in iTunes, but iTunes does pop up when I plug my iPod in. My iPod says its connected to the computer and all, but its not being read as iPod. Can anyone help me? I have already reset my iPod and turned off the computer and everything, but it just won't work.

You may need to remove and re-install iTunes completely from Mac. Use this article to help you do this.

And if nothing else, reformat your iPod using *Disk Utility*. See this article of mine on how to do this.

That sounds like a hardware problem.
Backup your data and contact Apple Support or your local AASP to make a service appointment.

IPod being recognized as a different, non-iPod drive

When I connect my click-wheel pod, it's being recognized in iTunes 5 and 6 not as an iPod but as an entirely different USB drive that's occasionally plugged into the same USB port.
iTunes reports that the 20GB pod has no music on it and has 60GB of space on it. The second USB drive is a 60GB 2.5-inch hard drive. Interestingly, the name reported is not the name of the second USB drive or the iPod; rather, it's the name of an 80GB networked drive based elsewhere in a home network .
My system is an HP ze5570us laptop running Win XP Pro, service pack 2. The pod software is v3.0.2.
I've tried resetting the pod. It doesn't help. I've also tried using other USB ports. That also doesn't help.
Clearly there's an ID conflict somewhere but I've no idea how to resolve it. Suggestions are welcome.

Ipod being recognized as a digital camera

After months of perfectly sound use in syncing etc suddenly my ipod is being recognized as a digital camera. I have followed all the instructions in the help sections, I have been to the Authorized service centre, I and the service centre have removed itunes several times and started and restared everything sooooo many times and we have reverted to old versions of itunes too. Still the ipod is being recognized as a camera.
no one seems to know why this has happened nor how to correct it.

Flash drive help PLEASE

i have a 1gb godisk flash drive and for some reason it has made two disk images. it use to be where one of the images was the actual flash drive memory and the other for some reason was named "no name" and only had the size of 1.4mb. well yesterday the real memory disappeared and the only one that is left is the 1.4mb. if i try to restore it thats all it sees.
so what do i do. is the flash drive trash now?

In Disk Utility select the flash drive and instead of Restore click Erase to reformat the volume. I would suggest MS-DOS if you ever wanted to use it on Windows.

If the flash drive was dead then it would not work at all, your iMac just no longer recognizes it after it was improperly removed.
First thing to do is restart the iMac and then see if it shows up.
If not then reset the iMac's SMC exactly as instructed in the following link and then try the flash drive again. > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1543

IPod Classic as a flash drive (put movies on it and connect it to my tv)- can it be done??

I have a iPod classic and I know it can be used in Disk Mode to store file like a flash drive, external drive. We sometimes put movie on our flash drive/usb and watch them on our tv. Can we do that with the iPod? Or its just for storage between computers?
Our tv has a usb port where we connect the usb drive and watch the media.
We cant figure it out
How do we access the media stored in disk on the ipod?

When I hover over cover flow it says I have 12851 songs but when I click nothing happens.
When I hover over artists or albums it says 'no artists/albums'.
I can upload again from my CDs but just wondering if there is anything to do. I live abroad so all my CDs are in storage.

USB Flash Drive Help

I'm not sure if this is the correct place to ask this question, but it's the closest forum I could find.
I have an old iMac running Mac OS 8.6, and I need to transfer some files (Appleworks documents, and family pictures) from it to another iMac running OS 10.3.9. They are in different locations, with only dial-up internet access, so I can't transfer files over the internet (easily), or by an ethernet connection.
I have two USB flash drives. The first is an old 128 MB, USB 1.1 drive. The other is an 8 GB, USB 2.0 drive. Neither drive will work on the OS 8.6 machine. When I put the device in the USB port, I get a message:
+'The software needed to use the USB device "USB Drive" cannot be found. Please refer to the device documentation to install the necessary software.'+
The 128 MB drive is so old, I don't have any documentation. I tried looking on the website of the manufacturer for a drive, or something, (the flash drive says Fujifilm on it), but they don't have anything useful.
The 8 GB drive is newer, but didn't come with any instructions or installers (not that I was counting on it to work on this old machine). It's a Verbatim flash drive, and they didn't have any help there.
I tried re-formatting the 128 MB drive to Mac OS Standard. That didn't work. I tried formatting it in Mac OS Extended HFS+. That didn't work.
My question is this, is there a software extension that I could download, it can't be that large of a file for dial-up, that would allow me to use the flash drive on a computer using OS 8.6? I have an OS 9 CD, and I also have a back-up CD of OS 9.2.1. Is it possible there is a driver in the extensions folder there that I could transfer and use in OS 8.6?

...I'm going to replace this iMac's 4GB hard drive with a slightly larger one...
If your iMac has a processor speed less than 350MHz, it is important that you partition the new drive if it is 8GB or larger -

Can you use your ipod nano as a flash drive?

I read somewhere that someone used their ipod as a flash drive and just wondered if this is possible? If so how do you transfer files from your Mac to your ipod and vise versa?

as I have no idea where mine is and it shows how to do it on page 45. I'll try it out and post back if I have any problems.
The only downside is I have to clear things off my nano to use it as a disk drive. Thinking maybe having a USB Flash drive is a better idea than using my nano this way. It's great to know it's possible to do this though if I need to.

Ipod not recognized by Itunes, please help!!

When I connect my ipod to my computer the follwing message comes up-
"USB device not recognized- One of the USB devices attatched to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it."
I've tried everything I can think of... downloading the latest software updates and the latest versions of itunes etc but still no progress.
When I attempt to configure the ipod using the software supplied with it or one of the software updates issued on the site the ipod and computer both freeze and nothing happens.
The Ipod is recognized by my computer but there is no sign of it in itunes.
Has anyone got any suggestions!?

Drag them to one of the items in the Finder's sidebar depending on item type. You may then want to import them to the associated application if any.

IPod not recognized by itunes, driver device won't install?

I've been at this for hours and I'm becoming rather frustrated. I've been using my 4g ipod touch since christmas and it's worked fine. I plug it into my new laptop, and it tells me that the device driver needs installed. I let it install, yet it's still not recognized. I go through the device manager and attempt to update the software, and every time it tells me that there is some kind of error and the update cannot be made. I've tried everything under the troubleshooting methods. Does anybody have any clue what is causing this? Any help is greatly appreciated.

1)a)Go to home button, and search regedit
1)b)And go to HKEYLOCALMACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/Usbstor click it.
1)c)- In the usbstor there is a file named ErrorControl and double click it. And it says value 1 change it to 3 and save it.
2)a)Go to Windows/System32/DriverStore/FileRepository/ And click the file named
usbstor.infx86_neutral83027f5d5b2468d3 and double click it, and copy the files named usbstor and usbstor.pnf
2)b) Go to C:Windows/inf and paste the files you have copyed.
2)c) Reboot your computer and your usb cable works again

G-4 Stopped recognizing SanDisk Flash Drive

Have used the San Disk Cruzer Driver for over 6 months. Tonight the G-4 will not recognize it or any other Flash Disk. I have tried both drives in a PC and they are still recognized. Can't think of any changes I have made to the G-4 that would have caused this problem.

Hello! Try inserting it and opening disk utility and see if it is seeing it.If so you may be able to repair it. Problems like that sometimes pop up if the drive was removed before being unmounted from the desktop. Tom

when i plug in my ipod the computer detects it as an "unknown device" and apparently the problem is that there is no driver installed for my ipod and its also not detected by my Itunes and updater! go into control panel, then add/remove hardware, then get rid of iTunes, and all versions of Ipod,
The restart, and then reinstall the stuff with the CD that came with ur ipod.... it worked for me... mine was the Ipod intense dfficulties post,..
