IPod being used by other devices???

When I go to sink my iPod I get the message that "sink failed."  Then I try to "restore factory settings" and it says it can't because my iPod is being used by another device.  Makes no sense!

If you have antivirus software that might prevent iTunes getting exclusive access to the device. You could try the DFU Restore method from Corrupt iPod classic.

  • How do I keep my Imessages from being viewed on other devices under my apple ID?

How do I keep my Imessages from being viewed on other devices under my apple ID?

No, you can authorize any number of email addresses on your Apple Id and then select one of those to use as an alternate Send and Recieve for Messages. It isn't necessary to use seperate AppleIDs. I use my phone number on my iPhone and an email address on the iPad.

  • Ip being used by another device? What does that mean?

An error message popped up saying another device has been using my ip address. What exactly does this mean, and how can I fix this? Please help.

Do you have another computer, iPhone/Pad/Pod? This is usually no problem.
Usually if you enable your router for Automatic (DHCP) IP address distribution, your device's IP address on your local area network will change without you knowing.

Most likely, you're getting a network address from your router. The address assignment ("lease") expires, and has to be renewed, after a certain amount of time, which might be one hour or one day. The lease expired without being renewed because the device was offline at the time. Meanwhile, the address was leased to another device on the network. When the first device comes back online, it still has the address that's now also leased to the second device. Depending on what kind of router you have, the conflict may resolve itself automatically. If not, then from the menu bar, select
     ▹ System Preferences ▹ Network
If the preference pane is locked, click the lock icon in the lower left corner and enter your password to unlock it. Then click the Advanced button and select the TCP/IP tab. Now look at the menu labeled Configure IPv4. If the selection in that menu is Using DHCP, click the button labeled Renew DHCP Lease. Test.
Less likely, you have a network address that you assigned yourself, and another device is assigning itself the same address. In that case, the selection in the Configure IPv4 menu will be either Manually or Using DHCP with manual address. This kind of conflict won't be resolved automatically. You have the following options to resolve it:
Change the menu selection to Using DHCP.
Change the manually-assigned address to one that isn't being used by another device.
Change the address of the other device.
Which of these options you should choose depends on the details of why you're using a static IP address. Any change you make to the network settings must be applied before it takes effect. To do that, click OK and then Apply.
This happens to me all the time and has never been a problem.

  • Your iCloud account is being used with another device (200+ iPads)

    Hello!
I work at a school and currently manage 200+ iPads, we use 1 iCloud account to keep a track of them, I have all backup services switched off and they purely use it for the 'find my iPad/phone' section on iCloud.
However, since iOS 8, a lot of these iPads display the message 'Your device is currently also being used on device studentiPad001' then when a student presses ok, it will pop up again with another iPad name it is being used on, it won't list all iPads that it is currently on but it will repeat this for at least 3-5 minutes.
I thought this would only happen the once after the update but it just picks random times to do it and random iPads, I will soon have to remove the iCloud account from the iPads as it is becoming a massive inconvenience.
Are there any other ways I can physically track the iPads or get rid of this notification?
    Thanks!

  • Web Cam being used by other application

I have a web cam that says is being used by other application when I try to Skype.  I look at System Profiler and it says under hardware I have a SiGma Micro.
Why does occasionally comes on but is very dark and cloudy.  How do I check USB to see if this is really the camera that is connected.  The web Cam is self has not logo or company markings. I tried unplugging  and switching ports with keyboard and mouse does nothing. What can I do?

    Vel,
As the error say, another application could be holding on to the webcam. What application are you using for your video chat? Check your task manager processes and see if there's any applications that could also be using the webcam feature like MSN Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, etc...and end their task if you're not using them.

  • TS1425 I cannot eject my ipod classic after sync with i-tunes on my pc. It states some of the files are being used by other applications. What does this mean? How can I get it to eject?

I cannot eject my new ipod classic after sync with i-tunes on my pc due, it states, to open files being used by another application. What does this mean? How can I get my ipod to eject?

If it's a one-time "glitch," you can try restarting your computer with the iPod still connected.  Try ejecting again after the restart.
If the problem recurs, you may have a process running (other than iTunes) that is accessing the iPod's storage.  When connected, the iPod's "disk" is like other mounted volumes.  This process may be some type of utility that continously monitors your mounted volumes for security reasons, such as to prevent access by malware.
If you know of such a program that you have running in the background, there may be a setting to exclude your iPod's disk.

The firmware takes up about 115MB(Give or take a few), so now you have 200MB that you don't know what it's from. Well, first of all, do you have a lot of contacts? Depending on the amount, those contacts can take up a little chunk of your hard drive. Secondly, your emails will take up some space, so keep that in mind... Thirdly, have you used the "data:URL"(http://iwebsaver.com/) method of saving web pages to your iPod touch? That will use up some hard drive space. Lastly, do have tons of bookmarks? Those will take up space also...
If you are still concerned about the amount of space that is being taken up by other(the amount does seem a little large), you can restore your iPod touch to factory settings through iTunes by going to the iPod touch summary tab(in iTunes) and pressing "restore". At the end of, just use the backup of your iPod touch to finish it so you have all your previous settings, home icons, bookmarks, contacts, etc.... Once you have done the restore, some of the "other" might have disappeared. I had this problem before, and I figures out that it was hidden "leftovers" of a sync that I canceled. So, if you have ever canceled a sync in the middle of it, you should definitely try this method...

  • My iPad is showing I have 13.9G being used for "other" what can this "other" be?

I've noticed that my 64G storage is being used up by a mysterious "other" category. I have 13.9G of "other" on my device... what can this be?

    Hi All,
I have been facing the same issue and found a solution that does not require a full restore!
Its seems to be related with the music synchronization mechanism
Here is a link to a very usefull documentation that describe what I did to resolve my issue!

  • Why doesnt my ipod not connect to other device through bluetooth

Why doesn't my ipod touch 4g connect with other devices through bluetooth ?

Because the iPod does not have the necessary BT profiles to do that. You can pair with another iOS device via BT via some apps that for peer-to-peer gaming.
You can also use apps for limited file transfer between iOS devices like this app:
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id590369016?mt=8
Without apps you can pair to newer iPhones to share there interent connection if you have subscribed for sharing with your carrier

  • IPod being detected as Unknown Device

Hello, first off, thanks for reading this.
    Okay, here is my problem:
My iPod worked correctly when I hook it up to my computer this morning, right, well, I unhook it and go listen to it for about 50 minutes. Then, I noticed the battery is a little low so I hook it back up to my computer. I notice that Vista is actually searching for drivers again, and then it says "Unknown Device.." error. I'm saying to myself, okay, okay, just reboot the iPod. So I do the 10 second Menu + Middle button trick. I hook it back up and still have the same problem. I, then, hooked it up to my PC - same thing. I'm now confused as to why it's doing this. I've looked through so many googles pages, I've memorized the Google logo colors backwards. My PC has XP running.
Can anyone supply an answer? Or should I have to just go to the Apple store and get it fixed?
    Thanks, again.

Im on a PC using Windows XP. Everything is working fine for me. It might be a Vista update also make sure your iTunes are current.
Have you tried any of the 5 Rs??
