IPOD blanks on and off

Please help. Just bought 30GB iPod and thought it was charging, however it now simply flashes from a color apple icon in the middle of the screen, to a black and white one, then to a blank screen while making a quick sound like it is powering down. After trying to reset, use a different USB both computer and house outlet, and turn off computer--I've lost out on ideas. It seems to have a mind on its own. Itunes loaded just fine, or so I thought. FYI--it did show the charging icon a few times, but was stagnant--did not show a "pulsating" charging icon. Thanks.

Update--Went back to the store and got a new iPod. Reloaded all of the updates and software, then had the iTunes download all of my songs into the iPod. iTunes recognizes my iPod, but when it finishes downloading all of my songs, the iPod goes to a black apple icon and the iTunes is removed from the "source" column. Doing a reset only forces the iPod into the blank on and off mode with the apple icon. When I put the iPod into "disk mode", iTunes recognizes it again. When I attempt a reset from "disk mode" it goes back to the blank on and off. What gives? Why does it not recognize the iPod after completion of the transfer?

You may have to let the battery fully drain
    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • When I use AC Adapter, Ipod turns on and off

I will try to explain this the best I can, here goes...
When I use all the battery in my ipod, so that it is completely dead, and I attempt to plug it into the AC adapter, the ipod turns on and off. I can hear the hard drive clicking on and off. It will not stay on; it just keeps doing this. However, if I plug the ipod into my computer, it will charge.
Do people think that this is a problem with my ipod or with the AC adapter?
I'd appreciate any feedback or if people have had a similar problem, let me know.
    Thanks so much.

  • Ipod flashing on and off

Alright, I had to do a full restore on my computer and lost everything. Plugged the Ipod in afterwards, and lost all my songs/movies. Well now it told me that I had to download the update in order to put new songs on. I did. Now the ipod is flashing on and off and wont let me do anything. I tried reseting it, and it turns off, but as soon as I let go of the buttons it goes right back to flashing on and off. I need some help. Anything anyone could tell me?

I have the same problem, created first when iPod updated on Friday night. I returned the month old iPod for a new one, installed and was downloading library when the new Ipod went into the same catastrophic failure.
HERE IS THE FIX: (walked through w/ Apple Store Rep)
    1. Make sure there is power to the iPod (with all the cycling, your battery is probably drained).
    2. Toggle the Lock Switch on top of the iPod 3 or 4 times, then hold Menu and Center Button down simultaneously (same as doing a reset).
    3. When the Apple Logo reappears, hold the Center Button and the Play/Pause button down simultaneouly.
    4. If all goes well, the screen should say, at the very top, Disk Drive Mode (or something to that effect).
    5. If you have been running off computer power, disconnect then reconnect the usb cable.
    6. Open iTunes
If all goes well, the iPod connection should appear on the iTunes screen with the opportunity to Restore.
    7. Restore your iPod to factory settings. Once the download is complete, you should be back in business.

  • After fully charging and syncing, Ipod turns on and off indefinitely. Help!

I just bought an 80g Ipod. I was very excited to upgrade. I followed the charging/syncing instructions to a tee. As soon as I ejected the Ipod and disconnected it from the computer, it began blinking on and off (the Apple image shows, then it goes black, the image returns, and so on). I've tried to reset the Ipod and it simply says "Disk Mode" and freezes. I've exchanged the Ipod twice and am now on the third - with same results. Any idea what the problem may be or how I might be able to fix it? Thanks for the help.

  • Brand New 80GB Ipod connects on and off with my usb cable

hi, i just got a new 80gb ipod for xmas, and when i plug the usb cable to my ipod, it connects sometimes, and sometimes doesnt, and when it does, it disconnects sometimes too, i usually have to keep moving into different usb ports and one will work, then not work again, then work again later. i even tried my friends cable and its the same thing, i think somethings wrong with the port in the ipod, can anyone help ?

Turn it off.  If it got wet somehow, you may try drying your ipod off.  The slow method would be a sunny window sill.  You could use a hair dryer on LOW, pointing it at the contacts.  When it drys out, charge itand try a hard-reset. If it still doesn't function properly....  ?

  • Ipod switches on and off by itself - comp uter doesn't recognize

The ipod keeps switching on and off. When it goes on it shows me all the languages that are offered. Then it shuts off and turns back on again. This is done quickly and my computer can't recognize that the usb is plugged in. I'm able to put it in disk mode but I can't reformat my ipod in that mode. What can I do? It's been 3 days that I've been trying to fix this problem.
I've also tried reinstalling ipod and itunes from the disk but now itunes can't properly install - I keep receiving a message that says an error has occurred.
    Please help!

    Hi,
Try doing a restore on your iPod. Hope this works.

  • IPOD turns on and off

All the Ipod does is turn on and off, on and off and then a large battery appears in the window. Then turns on and off a few more times. Reseting the Ipod doesnt work. Any suggestions before it meets my wall?

    Quick update:
I brought my iPod in. They told me there was nothing they could do to fix it. They simply gave me a brand new one and sent the other one back to Apple in Cupertino, California.
FYI: I think that either the database got corrupted or the hard drive got damaged. I was using it with ephPOD on windows 98. If I were you i'd use it only with windows 2000, windows XP, or MAC OS X.

  • ITune not recognising iPod touch, on and off.

Okay, this is not the usual iTunes not recognising the iPod.
I had this problem when I first set up my iPod. After a full uninstall and reinstall of iTunes, as described in the support article, my iPod was recognised. Now I have added more music to my collection, and a couple of the apps need updating I wanted to update my iPod. I connected my iPod and nothing, it does not show in iTunes. It is showing in my computer as a camers which I really wish it would stop doing. Also when my iPod was connected the first time I set up to allow it to wirelessly update and it won't do that either.
I am stuck on what else to do. I just hope I am not going to have to do a full uninstall and reinstall every time I want to update my iPod, because it rather defeats the purpose.
I have read and followed the instructions here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipodtouch/assistant/itunes/
I have even de-authorised and re-authorised my account as suggested at the Apple store. It is the latest model of touch, not sure what gen that is but it is only two weeks old. What else can I do to try and get this sorted?

Illass thank you for the reply, but as I said I have done everything on the support page. I even printed off the uninstall instructions as it gave you a rather precise order to do it in and I did check for the folders to see if they had been left, I learnt that when I updated my graphics drivers and still a game said my card wasn't up to scratch, even though my card supported shading 4.0 it only needed 2.0 for the game.
I also printed off the software conflict information otherwise I would have gotten totally lost.
However thank you for the disabling info, as it was getting a tad annoying when I was connecting it to charge up.
I decided to uninstall and reinstall again and low and behold it is recognised again. That makes it the second time I have had to do this to get my touch recognised. However doing this everytime I want to update is going to be rather annoying.
Ah the days of the Nano 2nd gen, and the innoence of those times. Shame some clumsy so-an-so knocked it out of my hand and stepped on it as it was just so simple to use.

  • Ipod switching on and off by itself

I updated the software on my iPod Touch to 4.35, and since i updated the software, the iPod keeps on turning on by itself, showing the apple logo and then switching off. It can't reset by holding the Home/Lock key at the same time and it's not recognised on My Computer.
How do I fix the iPod?

Try placing the iPod in recovery mode and then try restoring via iTunes.  For recovery modes ee:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
If not successfully, disconnect the iPod andl et the battery fully drain and then charge and try again.

iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for at least an hour try the article again.

  • My ipod is lost and off. Can Apple find it for me?

I don't have icloud or findmyiphone or anything like that. I know it is in my house because I had it two nights ago and haven't brought it anywhere since! I literally checked everywhere. I even check in the garbage and in my floor heater! Nada. Can Apple locate where my Ipod touch generation 4 is? Because I have tried everything. :/ Thank you.

No, just like your car manufacture will not find your lost/stolen car
    - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
    - You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have to iPod play a sound via iCloud.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it.
    - Apple will do nothing
Reporting a lost or stolen Apple product

  • IPod turns on and off, won't boot up or reset

    Hi all,
I recently pulled my old iPod out of the closet, where's it's been since it stopped working two years ago. When I plug in it in to the AC and try to start it up, I get the Apple logo, but then it disappears--only to come back again. It just keeps doing this, even if I try the reset steps. It sounds like the drive is starting up and then shutting down repeatedly. I'm afraid that this might be something serious. Any help would be appreciated.

    Don't buy an ipod people!!
I bought one 2 years ago. It broke 1 year later. It was replaced by apple (warranty), but again a year later that one broke. "Outside warranty" says apple.
They told me I should get it repaired at my own cost but this would cost more than a new one.
Thats 460 Euro down the drain.
    Go for Creative or Zune!

  • Flashing Apple Sign, on and off, and on....and off

    Hello,
I've had my iPod since Christmas, but havn't used it more than twice since then because I havn't been able to stop it from flashing the apple sign on and off, continously. None of the stupid 5-R steps help at all, my iPod doens't respond to any buttons, except for briefly when I try and reset it, it turns off as I hold the buttons, but when I let go, it turns bck on and flashes the apple sign all over again. the screen goes off for a split second, then the apple sign appears dark in the background, lights up, and then turns off. I can hear the disk drive spinning and clicking every time it does this too.
Windows doesn't recognize that I have the iPod plugged in anymore (it used to), and I can't do ANYTHING with it. It just sits there going on and off until the battery drains.
I don't know how it happened. Soon after I got it, it asked me if I wanted to update the iPod software, so i clicked yes, and it started to update, so i left it alon to use the washroom, and when I cam back, there was no "download comlete" or "updates succesfully installed" sign on my comuter, just iTunes open, and my iPod flashing on and off, on and off.
Could somebody PLEASE hel me with this, and maybe e-mail me with any advice you may have? --> [email protected] That would be greatly appreciated. At least reply to this if you know anything,. Thanks,
    Graham

I think bring your iPhone unit to an Apple Service center near you.
