IPod but no warranty

I'm going to have to get my iPod fixed at a retailer store, but I don't know if I got the warranty. Does it come automatically or did you have to buy it when you got the iPod? And if you don't have the warranty, how much is it to get the iPod replaced or fixed?

All iPods come from new with a one year manufacturer's warranty, from Apple. This is automatic and does not need to be bought.
When you take your iPod in for repair, I'm assuming to an Apple Retail Store, it would be best to book an appointment at the Genius Bar online first, to save a wait in a queue. Also best to take your proof of purchase, however they should be able to tell how old your iPod is from it's serial number. All 5G iPods will still be under warranty since they were only released a couple of months ago.
It is possible to buy AppleCare Protection Plan for your iPod, which extends the warranty, but this is not essential.

Help! pc recognizes ipod but not software

I just had my 20 gb ipod replaced with a 20gb color display ipod. Best buy did not give me the software disc according to their "warranty". I used my original disc to download the software, and updated it by using the free download on the apple website. I now have itunes 5.0 and when I connect my ipod to the computer a window pops up saying that it recognizes the ipod, but that the computer doesn't have the software and to download it from their website or the installation disc. However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components
- Then do the other actions of:

- New cable and different USB port
- Run this and see if the results help with determine the cause

You would have to ask the Police how they can find your iPod, if it's even possible. Your warranty with Apple covers defects in materials and workmanship, not loss.

HT1386 I have synced the items from itunes to an iphone 4 without problem, except the two albums I just purchased did not sync. They show up on the itunes on my desktop and on my ipod, but not on the new iphone. What do I need to do?

I have an itunes account and an ipod, and when I purchased 2 albums on the computer they synced straight to the ipod. I bought an iphone and used the usb cord from the computer to it to sync the itunes albums to the new phone. Everything transfered, and those were albums I had uploaded (not purchased from the itunes store), except the two albmus I just purchased from the itunes store. They appear on my itunes on the computer and ipod, but not on the iphone. What did I fail to do or did I do incorrectly?

This might sound weird, but here's an idea which worked for me re music that was newly added to itunes and showed up in my ipod but wouldn't play - I simply played the tracks in itunes first, just a second of time or so will do it, not the whole track, then connect the ipod and sync again and this time they played - hope this helps.

Sounds like your iPod is broken. Take it to Apple or someone else who repairs iPods and see if you can get it fixed, or get it replaced.

I know what you are saying...go through the 5 R's and all will be well. NO, this is the weirdest thing I've ever encountered. I just got this HP Laptop a couple of months ago...it has Vista installed on it. I downloaed iTunes 7.4 when I got my iPhone and it works fine. Then I tried to plug in my iPod nano (2nd Gen) and my iPod Photo with no luck. Windows wants me to locate the drive for the ipods because it can't find one.
My Device Maganger shows the iPod under 'Other Devices' with a yellow exclamation point next to it. Needs a driver. The iPod service is running. Vista obviously thinks the iPod service and driver is just for the iPhone. Thats my guess...Apple can't figure it out...and says 'It's a Windows problem' and Windows tells me to contact Apple for a driver for the ipods.
Has anyone else solved this little problem?
Ohh....BTW, these iPods work fine on my desktop using iTunes + Windows XP. I've done ALL the reset tricks...and have restored both of them, they just won't be reconized by iTunes or Vista. Both iPods show up in Device Mgr as iPods, but under the Unknown Devices.

Thanks for the reply Tony. No, the computer is brand new as is the iPhone. I did manage to solve the problem though. As I stated, the iPhone was the first thing I plugged into this new Laptop, with a fresh new copy of iTunes. The iPhone worked fine, it's the iPods that were not reconized by Vista.
Here is how I solved the problem. I removed the iPod from device mgr (Under Unknown Devices). Started up iTunes, plugged in the iPod and when Vista asked for a driver location I pointed it to the c:\Windows folder and it found the drivers. First was the USB Mass Storage Device driver, then the iPod driver, then the USBusEmumerator driver and now all is well.
It's a VISTA BUG! Once you use that USB Driver for the phone, anyother Apple product will require you to manually go into the windows folder and have Vista find it again and use it for your iPod. I wouldn't be suprised if this was done intentionally by Microsoft to try to get people to use there MP3 Players instead of Apple.

It's happened to me before as well. Try holding both lock(top right) and home buttons simultaneously until u see a slight flash of wight then just reboot it normally. If that doesn't work try restoring your device from itunes

Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to performunauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. Uninstall the unauthorized modification software from the computer.
Edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from your hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect. iPod does not play content purchased from the iTMS.
If you have made sure that both the iTunes and iPod software are current and have deauthorized and reauthorized your computer, try this test:
1. Deauthorize the computer.
2. Create a new user in the system.
3. Download the free song of the week from the iTMS in the new user account.
4. Play the song in that user account to authorize again.
5. Restore the iPod (using the iPod updater) in the new user account.
6. Sync just the free song of the week and see if it plays on the iPod.
If it does, you appear to have a corrupted iTunes library file, and you should recreate the iTunes library file in your normal user account, and then sync your music back to the iPod and all should be well.

Hi All, Really hope some of you techies may have suggestions for this as it's driving me nuts. I actually have a new PC and a new laptop, and the same thing happens with both machines. With my PC, the first time I plugged my iPod in, I was asked whether I wanted to wipe everything on my iPod, and reload as per the library on my new machine.
