Ipod button note on itunes screen

I can not download to my ipod from itunes. there is no button on the left. how do I correct this?

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Are you meaning that your iPod isn't showing in the iTunes left panel area? If so:
iPod is missing in Windows or iTunes.
Is your "My Computer" recognizing your iPod, but iTunes isn't? If so:
iPod shows up in "My Computer" but not in iTunes.
If your "My computer" and iTunes both aren't recognizing your iPod, then let's make sure that your iPod is in disk mode, then connect your iPod back to your computer and see what happens.
Hope this helps!

I just bought a new laptop and my ipod nano will not stay connected to my computer. When I first connect the ipod it starts to sync on my ipod but not on itunes. The ipod is initially connected to my computer, I can see it when I look on devices in my computer. However, when it finishes syncing it is no longer detected to my computer. I cannot transfer any of my songs to my new laptop because of this. I have tried to reinstall itunes, reset my ipod and use a different port. None of these things worked. Any ideas?

  • Can i store music on ipod and not in itunes?

my powerbook is having "issues" and the "genius" said i don't have enough hard drive space available. i was wondering if i could store my music on my ipod and not in itunes so that i can free up some space.
    any help would be great!

You'll need to set your iPod to manually iPod (iTunes>Preferences>iPod. Select manually manage songs and playlists).
However! you MUST have a backup of your music somewhere--especially purchased songs. Burning data CDs (not using iTunes) is one idea, burning DVDs is better (if you have the hardware for that) as you can fit more files on a DVD.

I have been trying to restore my ipod touch for several weeks.  The ipod is on the usb-itunes screen but the computer will not recognize it.  I have tried three different laptops and am now very frustrated.  I have also tried several different usb connectors.

Try putting the iPod in DFU Mode vs. Recovery Mode.

  • Ipod Touch Stuck On iTunes Screen. The iPod 'iPod' cannot be restored at this time because the ipod software update server could not be contacted or is temporarily unavailable.

I got a new ipod touch for Christmas.
Today I was going to put music on it, i was told there was updates.
So I went ahead to do them.
My Ipod is stuck on the screen with the usb cord pointing to the itunes logo.
    In Itunes i'm told :
Itunes has dected an ipod in recovery mode. You must restore this ipod before it can be used with itunes.
Turning the ipod off - the same screen appears when it's back on.
When I click restore ipod and after restore and update is clicked ; Extracting software loads up at the top.
When its done this is the message I get:
The iPod 'iPod' cannot be restored at this time because the ipod software update server could not be contacted or is temporarily unavailable.
I've been looking up trying to figure it out myself and have read making sure a setting in Lan Settings in Internet Properties has ; Automatically detect settings checked. I still get the same ipod message.
I've tried holding the power and home key to turn it off, then powering it back on. But that doesn't work.
I installed itunes today, so its up to date - I checked.
I don't know what else to do.
    Can someone help me out, please? :}
The operating system was ios 5 something? It wanted to update to 6 i believe.

I've tried the top part but now that i've looked to the bottom:

When it gives me the list of names, im not sure what to do from there. The steps aren't that clear for me.

  • Ipod will not play itunes music store purchased music

I know this topic has been discussed here before, but i still have yet to find a valid answer, so i figured i'd start another thread to see if anyone has found a solution yet. sorry for the repeat subject.
I have a 30GB ipod (with the 4 buttons above the scroll wheel) which suddenly will not play music which has been purchased from the itunes music store. everything which was imported from CDs plays fine. the songs in question play fine through itunes - both from my library on my G5, as well as from the ipod, so it does not seem to be an authorization problem. i've reset the ipod numerous times, trashed itunes preferences, updated to the latest version of itunes, and updated the ipod itself to the latest software version... all to no avail. when i select an itunes purchased album on the ipod, it simply cycles through, song by song, without playing anything.
I haven't restored the ipod to the factory settings yet, as i would like to avoid doing so because i will loose some music which i previously only had on a now dead ibook (faulty logic board). besides, i know from reading old posts, other people with the same problem have tried this as well, to no avail.
can anyone offer any other help/advice on how to remedy this problem? thanks in advance.

It appears that some songs in the iTunes store that were added to the store since the end of November will not play on 1st generation shuffles. They transfer to the shuffle fine but will not play. These same songs transfer to other iPods and play just fine. Many people are having these problems (see the Apple discussion boards). The only known solution is to burn the tracks to a cd and re-import them into your library (a royal pain in the butt). And, yes, I have tried all of Apple's recommendations and even went through troubleshooting with tech support over the phone. I was told they'd call me in a few days after speaking with their engineers but never heard back from them.
PLEASE contact apple either by the following link:
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/musicstore/ipod/
OR by calling the support number:
    1-800-275-2273
Hopefully, with enough complaints, Apple will be forced to correct the problem. It seems to me (and quite a few other people) that something changed on the encryption/the way they are encoding new music in the store that has made the music incompatible with our shuffles.

  • IPad2 does not show itunes screen to allow photo add

I have not been able to use the "home" iTunes screen to recover or upload and photos stored on my PC. I get the apples ITunes screen but not the Photos Tab
In settings the Photos tab is set up correctly. The main home screen has a Photo Icon but clicking on that takes me to a very limited selection of pictures. I used to have a large number of photos to view now only a few about 13 are shown. I am not able to sync as the page with the sync button is not available.

Check that in the area where your iPad is supposed to show up, and click the little arrow that is there. Maybe it will turn up again.

  • Ipod is not in Itunes 7...I have tried everything, Somone...Please Help lol

Ok, here's the thing. I got this 5th g, 30gb ipod the other day. I installed the little disk, and when I plug it in, my computer recognizes it, installs the device, everything is fine. It's in my computer, blah blah. It even opens itunes when I plug it in, however, there is no "Ipod" in the source list. Doesn't exist. I've gone through the support pages like this one
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716
and I've done it all. Re-installed the software, re-installed itunes, empty temp directory, disabled any third party programs I could, changed the drive letter of the ipod. No IPOD IN ITUNES still. Wth. Any ideas. I'm getting desperate.

    Sally,
OK since you using 2 computers, we will first focus on the one that will not uninstall iTunes, afterwareds we will get the ipod working on one PC first.
On the PC that will not uninstall iTUnes, goto control panel>add and remove and try if you can to uninstall iTUnes AND quicktime. Then go here and roll down to "Clean up iTunes installer files on the computer" http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976
Once done disable any antivirus or security programs, then goto apple.com to download and install the latest iTUnes.
Also on BOTH pcs make sure you have "ipod updater 06-28-2006" you can download and install it here http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/
Once iTunes is properly installed on this PC, you need to only connect your nano to the main PC you use for now so we can get it working, then we'll focus on the other PC if needed

  • Ipod stuck on "Usb -- iTunes" screen on my ipod.

I attempted installing the iPod Touch 2.2 Update and it gave me an error, and now my ipod is stuck with the screen of a USB cable with an arrow pointing up to iTunes.
I've unplugged and replugged it into my laptop, I've even powered down my iPod and unplugged it, only to have the same screen when turning it back on. iTunes is no longer detecting my ipod either.

    Hi Kangarew,
The iPod is in recovery mode, which is described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
Try the tips in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1852
You will be able to restore the iPod when the its recognized correctly.

  • Using Genius with Songs on iPod but not in iTunes

Of all the music on my iPod, only about a third of it is also on my computer in iTunes. As far as I can tell, Genius only works with the music that is in iTunes. If I try to make a playlist with any song that is not in iTunes, then it can't do it.
Does anyone know if there is anyway to update Genius directly on the iPod, rather than just with iTunes?

can u get genius on an updated ipod or just the second generation?

  • Number of Songs on iPod does not match iTunes

I am showing 2110 songs in iTunes, but only 2093 on my iPod. What would cause this? All songs are checked to sync & the sync settings are set to all songs and playlists. Any help would be appreciated.

I have exactly the same problem and asked a similar question earlier today. totally toastin replied:

  • IPod Will Not Sync iTunes Purchased Music

My 20gb 4th gen iPod is no longer syncing purchased music fron iTunes… I am working with the later version of iTunes and the latest version of the iPod software… I moved my entire iTunes library to a new computer and authorized the new computer (auth #2)… I connected the iPod and synced the library, but none of the newly purchased music went down to the iPod… The existing purchased iTunes music already on the iPod stayed there… The track information is on the iPod in the appropriate playlist as if it was there, but the song is not there… If I try playing the tracks, the iPod just goes through each track in less than a second…
So I updated the iPod with the latest software and did a full update to erase the contents completely… I plugged in and began a new sync… Again, all of my mp3 in my library came across, but none of the purchased iTunes music… The track information came over, but no song… So I now have no purchased music on my iPod…
This is a new Dell XPS laptop w/ Windows XP MC edition…
Anyone with thoughts on this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated…
    Thanks in advanced…

If you have made sure that both the iTunes and iPod software are current and have deauthorized and reauthorized your computer, try this test:
    1. Deauthorize the computer.
    2. Create a new user in the system.
    3. Download the free song of the week from the iTMS in the new user account.
    4. Play the song in that user account to authorize again.
    5. Restore the iPod (using the iPod updater) in the new user account.
    6. Sync just the free song of the week and see if it plays on the iPod.
If it does, you appear to have a corrupted iTunes library file, and you should recreate the iTunes library file in your normal user account, and then sync your music back to the iPod and all should be well.
The following articles will help you.
