  • My iPod came back to life!!

I'm happy, really happy right now. My ipod has risen from the dead. He drowned about 2 weeks ago in my messenger back. Now after much fiddling and patience he is back, alive and happy. I am too. Here's the story...
After a long tiring day at work I grab a bottled water from the shop down the block. I take a few sip and throw it in my bag and jump the bus, all is good, so I think. I get home and apparently the cap was not screwed on tight enough and my bag is full of water. What's in the bag you ask? Phone, bills, sketchbook and my iPod which I use everyday at work, everything swimming around. I freak. First reaction is to wipe everyday off dry, second reaction is to see if they still work...wrong reaction. So the iPod freaks out a little and gives me a frozen half charged sign then dies. I hit this website to see what to do next. Don't touch y'all say, let it sit for a week y'all say. ****, I killed it I think. So after about 5 days I check it out, horrible clicking sound and the dreaded "! sad face" sign then it dies, shuts off. My computer won't recognize it, the clicking sound hurts me. I try everything and nothing works. I let sit for a couple more days, think about selling it off to iPodresq for $35 and putting that toward a newer 5G iPod. I start saving money.
Just as I was about to purchase a new iPod from a guy off of Craigslist I try one more thing. I restart, menu-select, then immediately press back-select. Something different happens, a weird menu that allows me to restart by pressing forward not scrolling like normal, I do. Hook it to the computer and restore and cross my fingers, Poof! The iPod is on my desktop, all songs gone, but I could care less, my iPod is back! Yippee!!! I update all the songs back in and give it a listen, all is good. I'm happy, really freaking happy.
So before you think your iPod is dead and your ready to sell it for $35 to iPodresq try a little messing with it longer, really try it worked for me. Its like I have a new iPod, I can quit stealing my girlfriends. To think I almost bought a shuffle just to hold me off till I could afford the iPod video......

Well, I try not to associate luck and electronics in the same sentence! Unfortunately, HDD do have an expected life to them. I have had a couple crash at home, and a number at work, when I was responsible for our network. Believe me, nothing is scarier than part of your RAID array going bad. Especially, when it is the ones holding the operating system!!
There are a number of repair places listed in other forms, or you can do a Google search and find some that will replace the HD. You can also find sources that you can buy drives and replace yourself if you are so inclined.
    Hope this helps.

  • Ipod came back to life after washing BUT....

I washed my Ipod touch 2nd gen...let it dry out, put it in damp rid for 2 weeks and it turned on and worked for a bit then wouldn't. I let it sit thinking it was completely dead, about 4 months ago and today hooked it up in my car to the griffin firewire plug for my older Ipod and it turned on and played my music/videos etc....but the wifi is dead for sure...but when I unplug it no life.
So I'm thinking it works fine with the firewire power cord, but it won't work with my USB cord to my computer. It won't charge the battery...SO does anyone think it will work if I get a new battery in it? Found a place online for $35.00 to do it...can use this for a 'disposable' device, play my music/videos and don't care too much if it gets banged around.
    Battery won't work or charge
USB cord won't work or charge
    Firewire cord WORKS..won't charge...
What would you do? Know any place to really cheaply put in a battery? Hate to invest in it if it won't work with a new one either....

The Touch is notoriously difficult to change batteries for; it requires a partial disassembly and basic soldering skill. There are online videos, but I'm not sure if i'd risk it if I weren't experienced.
I found a reliable place online http://www.ipodjuice.com/ipod-touch-battery-replacement-products.htm#ipod-touch- battery-products, and if you send them an email, they'll be able to pin down the nature of your repair. Problem is, the battery may not be the only issue, and replacement only part of the potential solution.
Of course, anyone would prefer the budget route - but in this case....

  • Ipod nano got destroyed.. came back to life... now dying? Help!

    So
I'm officially the unluckiest person in the world! After buying my ipod in February or so, I left it in my sweater pocket when I hung my sweater up on a chair. To my dismay, my roommate (brilliant person of the year award incoming) threw that sweater in the laundry. My amazing little ipod nano suffered through an entire wash cycle.
At first I thought OH CRAP NO MY IPOD WHYYY GOD WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY, then cried a bit realizing I'd have to buy a new one. A few days after however, the little thing sprung back to life! I was so happy. Until tonight, when I realized that my ipod no longer turns on (again) when I turn off the hold switch.
I've tried toggling it on and off, resetting it via the center button + menu button. The only thing that turns it back on is plugging it into the cable set up with a wall charger. The problem here? I'm out and about a lot, how am I supposed to plug this in everytime I need to use it?
So my questions, good people of the apple forum, are these: Can I take this thing in to be serviced and repaired? Will it cost me an arm and a leg? Is there another way for me to fix this?
    WAT DO?!

The "Drama Queen" forum is on another website. Too, why aren't you doing your own laundry?
The damage is not covered by your warranty, and Apple will not repair it. You can send it to a third party, and I expect that the cost will be similar to a new iPod. You can try to dry it out longer, but I suspect that some of the internal circuitry has been damaged. Although no longer portable, it still plays music, and that's a good thing.
    "wat do"
    Excellent.

  • Is there any way to bring my 2nd generation ipod touch back to life on my macbook?

I was told it has reached its life expectancy, but I am seeing videos on youtube of pc users with a program that works outside itunes.

    Just what do you mean?
To more easily find compatible apps see:
iOSSearch - search the iTunes store for compatible apps.
    Vintapps 3.1.3 - paid app.
Apple Club - filter apps by iOS version.

  • My iPhone (3GS) decided to turn itself off and never came back on!!!

I still didn't do the last update on it yet. I can't remember the last one.
Anyway, I used a few of my apps this morning, was using the dictionary with my son ...
I downloaded an app for cursive handwriting. We turned it on and checked it out.
I guess I set my phone down on the table, continued with our lesson, and next thing I know ...
Picked up my phone and it was off. Try to turn it on on the button, nothing. Connected to my PC, didn't even acknowledged that there was a "new hardware" connected. Plugged it in the wall charger ... nothing!
Oh, it has been charging all night, just like every night.
Any ideas on what this could possibly be?
    Thanks,
    Ana.

I have been reading further into this wonderful forum and found a few helpful hints.
Thank you so much for you guys who post these great answers.
Held the Sleep/Wake and the Home buttons for a few seconds and it finally came back to life!!!
    Whew!!!
    That was scary!

I have the same problem and can't seem to figure out what the problem is. I rebuilt my iTunes library and still my 6G nano crahes whenever I load an AAC tune onto it.  MP3s and podcasts all work fine, it's just the AACs...
Just *loading* an AAC song will cause the Nano 6G to reboot as soon as it disconnects from Itunes. It will then reboot a few times and then go into recovery mode. :-(

  • I had a fully charged fifth gen iPod touch.  Had nothing but trouble since updating to iOS8.  This morning the iPod was fully charged. Turned it off-on standby. Came back and it won't turn on. Tried all troubleshooting tricks. Anyone ideas?

This morning, I had my fully charged 5th gen iPod touch.  Have had lots of problems with it since updating to iOS8.  After briefly using it (successfully may I add), I switched it off to standby.  Came back only 10 minutes later, and it would not turn on. Tried all the obvious solutions, even switched out the lightening cord.  Apple support could not help, and their only solution is to call.  Has anyone else had this problem?  Any other solutions other than obvious ones?  iTunes no longer even recognizes the iPod. Thank everyone!

Hey Wildfarmrose, Have you tries any of these: iOS: Not responding or does not turn on , if still no joy try DFU Recovery Mode

About the only other thing to try is let the battery drain, then attempt to charge for 30 minutes and attempt to turn on, otherwise try another cable, and/or different computer, if still no joy most likely dealing with a hardware issue, schedule an appointment with the Genius Bar at your local Apple store and have your iPod evaluated. Don't forget to bring your cable also.  Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar

i locked my Ipod 1st generation in zombie farm went to the toilet came back tried to unlock it but i cant screen was blank i have tried everything please help

If you have tried everything, then by definition, there is nothing else to try.
Perhaps if you explained what you tried someone can help.
If you have actually tried everything, then there is nothing anyone can do to help.
    Did you try reset?

  • I updated my iPod Touch to 6.0.1. after much prompting. Now my music is gone! (along with apps, photos and podcasts). After syncing a bunch of times some of it came back, but not all of it. How odd is that? How can I get my music back on it??

I updated my iPod Touch to 6.0.1. -- after much prompting from iTunes. Now my music is GONE (along with apps, photos and podcasts). After syncing a bunch of times some of it came back, but not all of it. How odd is that? How can I get my music back?? I'm really bummed! Everything shows in iTunes, but it's not synching right. So glad I updated. NOT.

Go to iTunea>Preferences>Devices and see if there is a backupright at the time you did the update. Then try restoring from that backup. If the apps are in your iTunes library, any app data will be restored to the iPod.
When restoring from an iOS 4 (or later) backup, if the device had a passcode set, iTunes will ask if you want to set a passcode (and remind you that you had protected your device with a passcode). iTunes will not ask you to set a passcode when restoring from iOS 3.x and prior backups.
Therefore, remembe the passcode that you enter this time.
It appears that if you restore from a backup, that backup is not subseqyently overwritten by the next backup.

If not successful try the remaining items of:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

If you restored to factory settings/new iPod via iTunes (Not via Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content and Setting) and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.
Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store..
