Ipod can't charge?

Hi, i replaced the battery on a 3rd gen ipod. Then I tried to charge it, but it wouldnt. So I tried to run the updater and now when I turn it on, I get a little icon of the dock connector plug. Right now I have it connected to the wall adapter but theres nothing on the screen. Is it charging? Any suggestions? Thanks.

can you force it to disk mode? by pressing play pause and menu for about 10 secs. If you can the battery icon will show and at least youl know if its charging.
got a friend with another adapter in case its faulty? An adapter is usually the only way around that icon .that i know of anyway

  • My iPod can charge, but it won't show up on iTunes or the Finder

Okay, here's what happened: My 1.8 GB ipod nano has worked well with my Mac OS X, Version 10.2.8, with me putting music unto my iPod, which i've had for a good while...until yesterday, when I tried connecting it to my computer (which was previously not in use for a couple of weeks) and my iPod would not show on the Finder and it wouldn't open up iTunes automatically, but it would charge the iPod (which is currently fully charged), though "Do Not Disconnect" still flashes. Oddly enough, when I go to my Now, I tried resetting my iPod, using different USB cables, restarting my computer, and I have installed all current software updates, and it still hasn't worked. I don't want to reinstall iTunes 6-the lastest version-or restart my iPod or use a computer upgrade which costs big bucks, as well as lose songs i've bought and put unto both, which measure over $25.
However, when I go to Isync and Apple System Profiler, and check in the "Devices and Volumes" section (gotten to by apple symbol/about this mac/more info->Apple System Profiler/Devices and Volumes), I see they mention that the iPod nano is connected to the computer....Now, I DID hook up my iPod and the USB cable that came with it to different newer versions of iMac computers at the Apple store here in New York City at 5 avenue, to charge my iPod and to play my music on them (and it worked fine, I just couldn't play music I bought from the online iTunes music store, but, back on topic), so that may have caused the problem I have now, so, now I need a solution, so, if anyone can help my problem, I'd be very thankful, thank you.

In order, I tried the first 3 (Reset, Retry, Restart) of the 5 steps, I don't wanna Reinstall and Restore, and risk losing my music on both, find out that still didn't help, and then having to buy it all back again, which isn't cheap, its fully charged, I use USB to connect between my iPod nano and my Mac (version 10.2.8), it isn't asleep when doing this, my computer, though it says it isn't compatible with a version 10.2.8, it used to work fine for months with no problems at all, I have the lastest version of iTunes, I have no plugged in FireWire equipment, my nano has never frozen, I doubt the USB cable I use or the computer port are faulty, as the nano can still charge and other things that use the USB ports (such as the keyboard) can still work, I'm not sure if my nano's hard disk format was damaged or not, but, I must admit, i've accidentaly dropped it a couple of times, but it still would work fine by itself or when it was connected with the computer, and I don't think my nano has a faulty port.

  • My iPod won't charge on a wall charger, only on the computer. I used the same cord for both though. I used to be able to charge it with a wall charger, but now suddenly I can't. I've even used other wall pieces. Nothing seems to work.

My iPod will no longer charge with a wall charger, only the computer. I know it's not becuase of the wall piece or my cord, since I also use the same cord for computer charging, and the wall piece seems to work with others devices. It worked a couple of weeks ago, then suddenly quit. I think it may be something to do with the inside of my iPod where the charger goes. I find it really inconvient to always have to use the computer to charge my iPod. I believe I have a three year warrenty on my iPod, but I wouldn't think it would cover this problem. Is there anything I can do to fix it?

  • Can I charge my ipod classic in Germany with the same usb wall charger I use in the USA, by plugging it directly into the correct adapter plug? Or do I need a power converter/transformer?

I will be in Germany for a year. I want to take my ipod classic and charge it with a usb wall charger, like I do here in the USA. Can I simply use the correct wall adapter plug for Germany, or must I use a power converter/transformer in between?

It should work as long as the prongs adapter are adapted to the outlet configuration.

  • I can't charge my ipod without having to bend the chord what should I do

I have tried 2 chords already and I just got a new one thinking that the problem was the chord, I'm not really sure how this happened, but it did and now I can't charge my iPod.

Hey Godsgrl1, A short and/or debris in the iPod's charging port are the first things that come to mind. Have you tried a different charging device? The thing that supplies the power, not the cable. If issue continues, check the charging port on the iPod for debris, pocket lint can interrupt a solid electrical connection. With a strong light and a magnifying glass look in the port, with the power off. You should see the silver bumps on the short ends, (one on each end), the gold contact pins on one of the long sides and the bottom of the port should appear dark gray or metallic and smooth. If it appears to be a mat finish, could be looking at packed lint. Try blowing it out, If that fails, use a non-conductive probe, I like a round wooden toothpick and carefully remove the debris, usually lint, from the port. Be very careful to NOT TOUCH the gold pins, damage, bent or break then and your screwed! Also, make sure the locking clips, (the silver bumps) are free of debris and push back when touched. If your cable is OK, and is an Apple product or approved for iPod use, Should get you back to charging. If there is no debris, the power supply is good and cables are free of shorts, and still will not charge, try resetting first. If still no joy, then attempt to restore, from backup. If still zip, make sure you have a current backup and restore to new. If a full factory restore does not work, you most likely have a hardware issue. Also, check that there is little to no movement of the port on the iPod, if you can see movement, or damage (missing pieces, cracks, etc.), the port maybe damaged. Schedule an appointment with Apple to have your iPod evaluated, be sure to bring the cables and charging device if possible. Hope this helps. Good luck, Cheers.

Yes, the charging is auto ranging, so all you need is the proper plug/adapter. Apple sells a nice travel kit.

  • Can I charge my 2013 ipod classic with my original ipod classic firewire charger?

Can I charge my 2013 ipod classic with my original ipod classic firewire charger?

Nope, I'm sorry. iOS/iTunes only (you need a connection to your network, and the iPod classic doesn't have network capabilities).

  • Can i charge my ipod on any computer?

I need to charge my ipod, i dont have the charger with me and i am away from my computer. I do have the UBS cable, can i charge the ipod on any computer with a UBS port or does it need to be the one its registered on?

As long as the computer has the port that your iPod supports (USB and/or FireWire), and as long as the computer doesn't have iTunes (or if it has iTunes, when it detects your iPod, don't choose to automatically update it - otherwise, all the songs on your iPod will be replaced by whatever's in that computer's iTunes), you should be good.

  • Can my charger, which originally shipped with my iPod A1040 be used with any of the following models without damaging the battery?

I know this is a complicated question, but any detailed explanation as to why or how I appreciate it as I have tested and it does actually charge the 1136, 1051 and 1236, but I have been reluctant to try it on the A1288.
    Question:
Can my charger, which originally shipped for the iPod A1040 be used with any of the following without shortening the battery life or damaging it?
    iPod A1136 (tested, does charge)
    iPod A1051 (tested, does charge)
    iPod A1236 (tested, does charge)
    iPod A1288
    Thanks,
    Josh

  • Can i charge my swedish ipod in america with an adapter?

Can i charge my swedish ipod in america with an adapter?

Yes. The power adaptors are rated for 115 to 240 volts.
If your power adapter has the round pins used in Europe then you will need the little adapter that changes from round pins to flat pins. These are usually very inexpensive.

  • Can I charge iPod with Firewire?

I understand (after dropping $400+, of course) that the new generation iPod no longer supports firewire nor does it come with an external charger. Can I use my old firewire-based charger to charge my iPod while on the go, or do I need to go spend more money now on a USB-based charger? Input is appreciated. Thx.

When I plug my firewire cable into my iPod video or nano, it reports that syncing is not supported via firewire. I can still charge it though.
