Ipod cannot be located

Newly purchased iPod Touch 5 and MacBook Air cannot be located in Find My iPhone. But iPad 3 purchased months ago can be located. And no map-related Apps work either.

Yes. And device Location switches are turned on. The Radar weather map was working fine for a week and then it just stopped locating my town. Just downloaded the Google Earth App on the iPod and the first time opened it located me and then the Home button in the bottom left started swirling around and it never found me again.

This is getting frustrating.  Every example of my problem has the same reply:

I have NO photos on my Ipod Nano.  I select "Photos" and the Ipod goes to a blank screen with the msg "No Photos" at the bottom.  There must be some other file missing.  Itunes won't connect to the Ipod, I keep getting the same error over and over.  It would be nice if it told me what file is missing.

  • IPod cannot be updated because the file cannot be found

Just purchased a new 5th gen. 30gb iPod, and when plugged into my laptop & iTunes, I get the error message that "so and so's iPod cannot be updated - the file cannot be found." Then the iPod drops out of itunes, but stays in My Computer. Any way to fix this?

I just dealt with the same problem. None of the answers people gave to the problem worked!
Whatever it is that you're trying to put into your iPod... make sure that the file is located in your "My Music" file first.
Basically, when you get that message double check and if what you selected isn't in "My Music" drag and drop into it and try again.
    I hope that helped!
    I know... so frustrating.

  • IPod cannot be synced..

I recently updated my iPod and it did not update appropriately, it left out 500ish songs..just for fun i guess. For some reason this made me think that updating to the newest version of iTunes would be a good idea, so i did. During the three attempts at installing iTunes i kept getting a message early on in the install that the installation can't be completed because a file is missing. But it never names the file or says anything about it, and hten goes forward with the installation. iTunes continues to work, but now it won't sync with my iPod because it says that the required disk cannot be located or is missing or something like that, again no specifics on exactly WHAT is missing.
    Any suggestions?

  • Songs on the iPod "(My Name)'s iPod" cannot be synced because . . .

Okay, so I downloaded a lot of t.v. shows and my ipod was too full. So itunes automatically did something I didn't quite understand (not surprising, I'm so new to Macs). iTunes made a playlist and all my songs went there and it deleted my t.v. shows from my iPod. Today I was trying to figure out how to get those shows back on my ipod. I was trying to erase stuff I didn't want to make space. I guess I erased the new playlist thing that iTunes automatically created. Or did something else weird in my attempt to make room for my shows on my ipod.
Now, when I try to sync it says: Songs on the iPod "(My Name)'s iPod" cannot be synced because all of the playlists selected for syncing no longer exist.
I looked for what I deleted in the trash but couldn't find it . . . probably because I don't know what I'm really looking for.
So now my ipod won't sync. And I'm still not sure how to make room for my t.v. shows on my ipod. And before I screwed up the syncing and looked up how to transfer only selected items I read something about a "Summary Tab" that I can't locate.
I'm really, really stupid when it comes to all this. Sorry. I need lots of help.

Yes, the TV files are the problem, the TV + music libraries exceed the capacity of the iPod, this is why iTunes made that playlist for you. All you will need to do is re-build a playlist or lists, say one music, one TV, with the content you want on your iPod. In your iPod preferences, & I believe it will be the summary tab, ( but I don't have my iPod docked right now), just tell iTunes to sync those 1 or 2 specific playlists to the iPod. This should fix you right up, but please post back if you have any questions.

  • ITunes error -50 - iPod cannot be updated

    Hi,
I've updated iTunes to the most recent version (5.0.0.35) on Windows XP. When I try to update my iPod (4th Gen Click Wheel, most recent iPod update (september's) run) everything is fine. When I try to update with Outlook's contacts, that's fine as well. When I try to update with Outlook's calendar I get the following error message...
'The iPod "....." cannot be updated. An unknown error occurred (-50)'
Any ideas out there? Let me know what other infor you may need.
    Thanx in advance!!

Same issue here, only I get:
"The ipod ** cannot be updated. An unknown error occurred (-4)"
I've never seen a -4 error and can't seem to locate anyone else that has, either, but on a hunch I disabled my Outlook Calendar synching and it went away. Contact synching still seems to work, however.
What a great feature! Hope Apple fixes this soon! =/

  • Error message: iPod cannot be updated. The required file cannot be found.

Each time I sync my 5th generation iPod to my laptop and open iTunes, I get the message "iPod cannot be updated. The required file cannot be found." My husband already updated my iPod with the most current Updater (6/28/06). Any thoughts or suggestions?

After looking further into the archives, I got an answer to my question. There is a file called "iPod Photo Cache", located in the Pictures folder, that should be moved to Trash. Once done, the error message pops up no more!

  • The ipod cannot be updated because....

I got a message this afternoon after adding some songs to my iTunes saying something along the lines of I couldn't fit all the library songs on my iPod so iTunes was going to create a new playlist for me (or something). iPod Select or something. That was fine, except that when I went into my playlists on my iPod - all of them were gone except on-the-go and this new 'select' playlist.
So I deleted this iTunes-created-playlist and went to re-sync, however I got a new message saying "The ipod cannot be updated because one or more of the iTunes playlists selected to update no longer exists". ALL of my music is still in the iTunes library, all of my playlists are still in iTunes (recently added, top 25 etc) but these settings won't sync to my iPod which is now completely EMPTY (2nd gen nano btw).
    Any ideas?

You get this problem when the option 'Sync Music - Selected playlists' is being used to sync your iPod. If the playlist selected is deleted from iTunes the iPod no longer has a location to sync from and you get an error. (Syncing selected playlists by the way is a useful setting to use when the iPod is smaller than the iTunes library). However you can make a new one or make use of an existing one.
Open iTunes and create a playlist to update your iPod from, call it -My iPod for example (the dash will position it at the top of the playlists in Sources). You can make it a smart playlist that picks the songs for you or just a normal one and drag whatever content you want to have into the playlist. If you are making a smart playlist limit it to just less than the size of your iPod (for example 3700MB for a 4G iPod Nano. Now connect your iPod and when it appears in the Source list click on the iPod icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists radio button. Choose the playlist you just made from the selection and click Apply. You can also sync from any existing playlists by choosing the same setting, you just need to make sure that the size of the playlists don't exceed the capacity of your iPod:
lost libraryHow to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
    Syncing Music to iPod
To make a random playlist go to File>New Smart Playlist.
    Uncheck "Match the following rule"
Check "Limit to" put "3700" in the number box, choose "MB" from the first list box, choose "Random" from the next list box. Check "Live Updating"
When you want to change the selection in the smart playlist just delete everything in it and it will add a new selection. When you want to change the normal playlist just delete out what you don't want and drag in a new selection.

  • "The iPod cannot be ejected because it contains files that are in use..."

My iPod (20 gb, 4 gen) syncs fine, but when I go to eject it a window pops up saying "the iPod cannot be ejected because it contains files that are in use by another application."
Unfortunately, there are no files on it (that I know of) that are being used by another application.
I can't use the eject function on the task bar because I have Vista and it will corrupt the iPod. I've just been unplugging it with out ejecting, but was hoping there was a solution. Any advice?

Are you running any anti-virus or spyware detection software in the background? Start closing programs located in the taskbar next to the clock and try ejecting the iPod.

  • Cannot find location with iPad 2

Cannot find location: I have an iPad 1 and a newly acquired iPad 2; even if they are side by side, the iPad 1 will find its location, while the iPad 2 cannot, and thus, lots of applications do not work. What to do ?

    Hi Ogie4139,
Since you're missing both the AirPlay and AirDrop icons from the Control Center, please try and reinstall iOS on your iPad by following the directions below.
Make sure that you have iTunes 12 or later on your computer.
Put your device in recovery mode.
When you get the option to restore or update, select Update. This will reinstall iOS without erasing your data.

  • A lot of songs in my library have an excalmation point to the left of the song.  This means the song cannot be located for syncronizing even though they can be played.  I have deleted all of them and started over but the problem still exists.

A lot of songs in my library have an exclamation point to the left of the song.  Apparently this means the song cannot be located for syncronizinf to the IPOD but yet they can still be played.  I have gone so far as deleting every song and then importing them.  Same problem.  This is not just a few songs but at one time was in the hundreds.
    Has anyone experience this?

The exclamation point indicates the media is not where iTunes expects it to be.
What happened just prior to this issue starting?

  • The iPod "bobj's iPod" cannot be synced. The required file cannot be found.

Windows XPHome, iPod Touch 4G (now) version 4.3.4.  Attempted to update to 4.3.4 last night.  Files downloaded, but got message that  it could not connect to server.  A few hours later I tried again, this time it started the update, but when it got to "Installing new hardware, iPod Touch (Recovery Mode)" it couldn't seem to find the drivers, so the iPod was stuck on the cable/iTunes screen.  This AM, I did a complete uninstall/reinstall of iTunes, Quictkime, etc.  This freed up my iTunes to restore my iPod.  I then did a Restore from Backup.  Everything worked fine EXCEPT at the end I got the message: The iPod “bobj’s iPod” cannot be synced. The required file cannot be found.  It also seems that the onlything that didn't restore were the photos.  Subsequent attempts at syncing produced the same error message.  My photo cache is in the same location as before and it's location is correct in iTunes.  I even reselected and applied it.
What are the next steps to solve this problem.

Thanks.  Worked perfectly.  Had to turn the photo sync back on and select the folders, but all that took was a few clicks.  It's been a harrowing day sinced the failed update, but everything seems back to normal now.
