'Ipod cannot be synced because....

....all of the playlists selected for syncing no longer exist.'
Any ideas on how to rectify this?

You get this problem when the option 'Sync Music - Selected playlists' is being used to sync your iPod and then the playlist it has been updating from is deleted. Most people use this setting when the iPod is smaller than the iTunes library. If your library is larger than the capacity of your iPod, iTunes by default makes a new playlist called something along the lines of "Owner's iPod". If you for any reason delete it, you will not be able to sync your iPod.
Open iTunes and create a playlist to update your iPod from, call it -iPod to make it the first playlist in Sources. You can make this a normal playlist and drag whatever you want to it or you can make it a random Smart playlist. If you are making a smart playlist limit it to just less than the size of your iPod (for example 3700MB for a 4G iPod Nano). Now connect your iPod and when it appears in the Source list click on the iPod icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists radio button. Choose the playlist you just made from the selection and click Apply. You can also sync from any existing playlists by choosing the same setting, you just need to make sure that the size of the playlists don't exceed the capacity of your iPod:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
To make a random playlist go to File>New Smart Playlist.
Uncheck "Match the following rule"
Check "Limit to" put "3700" in the number box, choose "MB" from the first list box, choose "Random" from the next list box. Check "Live Updating"
When you want to change the selection in the playlist just delete everything in it and it will add a new selection

  • 6th Gen/osx10.7/iTunes 11.0 'The ipod cannot be synced because it cannot  be found.'

    Hi,
I sure do hope someone has some great ideas here - because I'm stumped.  I'm trying to sync up my husband's ipod.  Gee whiz - who knew it would be so difficult.
    Products:
I have a 6th Gen. ipod, syncing to a Macbook Pro using OS X 10.7 on iTunes 11.0.1.  I have been successfully syncing this ipod for a few years now with no trouble - mostly music & photos.
I updated iTunes to the latest version 11.0.1 and synced the ipod.  (It should be noted that I had such a screwed up library from iTunes that I deleted the entire library and reloaded it and regenerate playlists, etc..  I was able to sync up about 1,100 songs to the ipod with no problems and only used up about 6GB of space out of a total of 16GB.)
    Issue:
The trouble began when I tried to upload additional music and I received the following error... 'the ipod cannot be synced because it cannot be found'.  Which is weird since my Mac & iTunes both 'saw' the device and I was able to view uploaded content 'on this ipod' in iTunes.  It doesn't matter how much data, or what kind of data I'm trying to sync - I get the same error message.
The device reads, ''Connected - Eject before disconnecting'.  So I tried to eject the from iTunes, which shows it's disconnected there - but the icon remains on my desktop and still shows it's connected on the device.  Then I tried ejecting from my desktop - no change.  The only way to remove the device is to completely MANUALLY shut down my laptop (it hangs when I try to relaunch Finder, restart or shut down within OS).
    Troubleshooting Conducted:
I have restarted and reset the device - problem persists.  Device is fully charged.  Has the latest OS.  USB ports are operating without issue with other peripherals (external HDDs/speakers).  This does not appear to be a hardware issue (laptop and device) since both appear to be functioning properly (the device with existing content and the laptop with everything else.)
I've searched through Apple's support pages as well as community discussions and was unable to really find anything similar - please forgive me if I've overlooked something.  I'm happy to go to existing solutions.
Also of note - both my son's and my iPhones have synced with this version of iTunes remotely without any problems.
Hope I've given enough info.  I hope even more that someone may have a solution for me.
    Thank you for your time.

  • Songs on the iPod "(My Name)'s iPod" cannot be synced because . . .

Okay, so I downloaded a lot of t.v. shows and my ipod was too full. So itunes automatically did something I didn't quite understand (not surprising, I'm so new to Macs). iTunes made a playlist and all my songs went there and it deleted my t.v. shows from my iPod. Today I was trying to figure out how to get those shows back on my ipod. I was trying to erase stuff I didn't want to make space. I guess I erased the new playlist thing that iTunes automatically created. Or did something else weird in my attempt to make room for my shows on my ipod.
Now, when I try to sync it says: Songs on the iPod "(My Name)'s iPod" cannot be synced because all of the playlists selected for syncing no longer exist.
I looked for what I deleted in the trash but couldn't find it . . . probably because I don't know what I'm really looking for.
So now my ipod won't sync. And I'm still not sure how to make room for my t.v. shows on my ipod. And before I screwed up the syncing and looked up how to transfer only selected items I read something about a "Summary Tab" that I can't locate.
I'm really, really stupid when it comes to all this. Sorry. I need lots of help.

Yes, the TV files are the problem, the TV + music libraries exceed the capacity of the iPod, this is why iTunes made that playlist for you. All you will need to do is re-build a playlist or lists, say one music, one TV, with the content you want on your iPod. In your iPod preferences, & I believe it will be the summary tab, ( but I don't have my iPod docked right now), just tell iTunes to sync those 1 or 2 specific playlists to the iPod. This should fix you right up, but please post back if you have any questions.

  • Windows XP, iTunes 11: iPod cannot be synced because it cannot be found.

I recently had to restore my iPod Video (circa 2007) after dropping it.  Now it will not sync, and I get the error message "The iPod cannot be synced because it cannot be found." Sometimes it says "the required file cannot be found" instead.  This has never happened before.
I would rather not reinstall since I have over 9000 songs all star-rated by hand.
I am using iTunes 11 and Windows XP.  Can anyone help?
    Thanks.

    Reboot the copmuter,
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
    - Try anohter USB cable.

  • Question I have a dilemma . I added a lot of songs in my iTunes now when I synced my ipod this message appear "Elma's ipod cannot be synced because there is not enough free space to hold all the items in the iTunes library (additiona

I addesd a lot of songs in my itunes, now when I synced my ipod this message appear "elma's ipod cannot be synced because there is not enough free space to hold all the items in the itunes library (additional 382m is required). Then I uncheck a lot of song and synced my ipod again same message appeared. Do I need to buy a new ipod with more memories? Somebody told me to check apply after I unchecked some of the songs but I cannot find the word APPLY. please help I'm not a very technical person.

The Sync button becomes the Apply button, if you change the iPod's settings in iTunes.  If you are only unchecking songs in the iTunes music library, you click on the Sync button.
When you select the iPod in iTunes, you see the iPod's Summary screen on the main part of the iTunes window.  There is a checkbox there for Sync only checked songs.  Did you check that checkbox?  If you want iTunes to ignore the songs you unchecked when syncing your iPod, that setting needs to be enabled.  If you change that setting, you'll see the the Sync botton has changed to Apply.  Click Apply.
That method of unchecking songs works, but it may become annoying over time, as you need to uncheck more and more songs.  If you want advice on some other more convenient ways to make it work, you can post back.

  • HT1296 Have a problem with syncing. I get this message: The ipod Bill's Ipod" cannot be synced because there is not enough space to hold all of the items in the iTunes library (additional 2.4GB required) I don't understand as I have much more space than 2

I recently ran into a problem with syncing my ipod touch to itunes on my Windows 7 pc. It had previously been synced to my older laptop
and I wanted to change to my newer Windows 7 laptop's itunes library that I had already been syncing with.
Anyway, I started seeing this message that prevents my from syncing:
The iPod "Bill's iPod" cannot be synced because there is not enough free space to hold all of the items in the iTunes library
    (additional 2.48 GB required)
Not sure if it is talking about my iPod free space or my PC itunes library free space. Either way I have 11.0 GB free space available
on my iPod and 412 GB free space available on my Windows 7 PC.
How do I handle this problem?   Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Thanks

It is saying that the iPod does not have enough free storage to sync all the items yu have selected to sync to the iPod. You need 2.48 GB more free on the iPod. You need either to select less to sync or delete some content form the iPod.

  • My iPod cannot be synced because the required file could not be found.  How do I fix this problem?

Peace.  My name is Free.  Thanks in advance for any help u can offer.  My iPod cannot be synced because the required file could not be found.  How do I fix this problem?

    Hi antiklady,
I see that you may be having an issue with compatibility of iTunes when connecting your iOS device. This sort of issue can arise if you have two versions of iTunes installed on your computer, which I feel may be the case. Here is an article that can tell you how to identify the version of iTunes that you have open:
iTunes: How to find which version you are using - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201521
If the version of iTunes that is opened is not the version you are required to use for the iOS device in question, try searching through your computer or applications folder to see if there may be two versions of iTunes installed on your computer. Then, uninstall the version that is incompatible using these steps:
Remove and reinstall iTunes and related software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 - Apple Support

  • Ipod cannot be synced because it cannot be found

When I connect my ipod, it tries to sync and then it gives me a message "ipod cannot be synced because it cannot be found". I've checked the cables, connectivity, etc. and have reset everything - restarted computer, ipod, etc. but it still gives me the same error message. Can someone help?

What have you tried in terms of troubleshooting so far?  Has the iPod ever been able to successfully sync with this PC and iTunes before or is this the first time you are connecting it?
I would first make sure you are plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port directly on your PC and NOT through a HUB.  If possible, use a different USB sync cable to rule out a damaged/faulty cable as well.
Is the Enable Disk Use option ticked from under the iPod's Summary tab in iTunes?

  • The ipod cannot be synced because it cannot be found

All - I just tried downloading the new iOS 6 from iTunes to my 4th-Gen iPod Touch, which currently has iOS 4.3.  After about 2/3 of the (very long) time downloading, I kept getting 'the ipod '(my name)' cannot be synced because it cannot be found'.  I can't even find this error message on the 'net.  I've found people talking about a similar message about a file cannot be found, but not that the iPod can't be found.  And of course it's a software glitch, because after that download finished - but didn't successfully update the iPod Touch - it synced anyway (books, music, etc.) - so whaddya mean the iPod can't be found?  :^)
Oh, and I should add - in some other error instances, I found people saying to 'restart' the iPod - do you just mean turn it off and back on??

Hello, I have the same problem, i have the most up to date firmware - just released, however, since the iOS6 update my ipod has a had a number of problems, including if I try to update over Wi fi it shows the iPod as available but I get 'ipod touch could not be found on the network'. I have tried resetting, I've reverted to factorsettings etc... no fix though.
I can sync by cable - but that also has intermittent issues.
In fact when I updated to iOS 6.1 by cable it fell over again and I had to do a full restore on my Ipod. I have only had this issue since upgrading to iOS 6.
    Any one have any ideas?

  • ITunes says, "The iPod cannot be synced because it cannot be found" when it tries to sync the tracks.

When I connect my iPod Touch by USB to my MacBook with iTunes open, iTunes automatically starts syncing, as it should. When it gets to Step 3 of 5 it says "Determining tracks to sync," and then just as the status message changes the sync stops. An error icon appears in the sidebar next to my iPod. When I click the icon a message box comes up that says, "The iPod [name] cannot be synced because it cannot be found."

  • IPod cannot be synced because external hard drive could not be read

I moved my music folder to an external hard drive to create space on my laptop, and changed the location under Preferences / Advanced. Since I did this, my iPod trys to automatically sync but gives the error message "The iPoD "[name]" cannot be synced. The disk could not be read from or written to." The external hard drive is on and working. Is there some reason that the iPod will not sync with this external hard drive? What do I need to do to fix it? Thanks, Bill

    First question, since you made
the change, can you still play your music from within
    iTunes?
    Patrick
Sorry for the delay in answering as I have been traveling. Yes, I can play music from iTunes. The music is located on my external hard drive. iTunes software is on my laptop, and the music library points to the music folder on my external hard drive.

  • Itunes won't sync to my brand new ipod classic.  It says "The Ipod cannot be synced because it cannot be found.

I have been onto Apple by phone, and into the Apple store where both of them recomended that it gets replaced.  I did, got a brand new ipod classic, and i still have the same problem.
I have attempted to restore, but it won't let me for the same reason.
On a couple of occations it starts to sync!!  however it goes through practicly the whole syncing process (12,000 songs, heaps of videos) and then just freezes up! The little rainbow orb spins forever until i have to force quit.
I have had my old ipod and my partners ipod regestered and used on the one itunes with no complications whatsoever, our old ipods sync perfectly with no problems at all.
    very frustrated.
    Is it my Ipod Box?
    Or is it Itunes?
or does it not like me having more than two ipods registered?
with the last new ipod which was replaced and the current new ipod that's a total of 4 ipods regestered on the one itunes
My partner has a Dell Laptop with Microsoft.  I downloaded Itunes on there, ripped one cd, formatted the current new ipod, and it synced the one cd i ripped with no trouble at all.
Has anyone else had the same problem with their Ipod Classic?

Is iTunes up to date (10.7)?  Have you tried plugging the iPod into a different USB or using a different USB cable?
I would recommend doing a disk diagnostic on the iPod's HD using the instructions given by turingtest2 in this older thread to check your Hard Drive's health.  He always covers what the resulting numbers indicate.
