Ipod cannot be synced. File or directory is corrupted and unreadable.

After I tried reconnecting my ipod to my computer, the message "The iPod cannot be synced. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable." popped up in iTunes and it wouldn't let me access any of the songs on my ipod. I ejected it and checked the ipod, and all of my songs were still on there, but whenever I try and connect it to iTunes the same message pops up and when I go to the music list, nothing is there, though it states 3 GBs of space is being taken up (the amount of space my songs use).
I figured the problem might lay in iTunes and not my iPod, but while there was a problem and I did manage to fix it, the newly downloaded iTunes still gave me the same message as before.
I figure I could try reformatting the iPod, since it looks like that might solve the problem, but I don't have any of the songs on my iPod backed up, so I was hoping someone might be able to offer another solution. =/
*To sum things up: songs are still on my iPod and I can listen to them after ejecting, but syncing up to iTunes is no longer possible (so no new music ;_; ). Problem most likely isn't with iTunes and I'd prefer not to reformat the iPod.*

I have just managed to connect my ipod through itunes to restore it. However when I tried to connect it to the wall socket to complete the update nothing happens. I have checked the fuse in the plug and that is okay, but the ipod does nothing, not even a light on the display when connected. It seems to have locked up. If I hold it close to my ear I can hear a gentle hum. Also the ipod is not showing up in windows explorer.
Any suggestions ?
Thanks

  • Ipod cannot be synced. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable

I have recently had to reload windows xp home edition on my computer and wanted to connect my ipod to load some new music. As it was a new installation the ipod was not recognised. I loaded to latest version of itunes that I have just downloaded and was asked whether I wanted to sync my ipod with this computer in which case I would lose everything that was on the ipod. I choose yes to sync to the new computer but got the error message "the ipod "ipod" cannot be synced. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable". I simply recharged the ipod and continued to use it for a day but then it just ran through the tracks without playing anything until it came to the end of an album and returned to the main menu.
As I cannot play anything I wanted to restore and reload but cant. Could anyone offer any help ? Thanks

  • Error: "The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable"

    This is driving me nuts.
I've had my 5th gen. iPod for over a year now, but just two days ago, when I plugged it in to my computer I received a message saying, "The iPod "name here" cannot be synced. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable."
To solve this problem, I tried using different USB ports, restarting my iPod, and reinstalling iTunes - all to no avail. I'd really like to avoid restoring my iPod, so I haven't tried that option yet. The iPod works fine outside of adding new music. Also, I ran chkdsk and got nothing from it.
I'm very sad about this. I love my iPod and I want to be able to put new music on it! Any suggestions?

    Thanks for the reply!
I downloaded the program and ran it, got to the point where it says I have errors that need to be fixed... but it appears I have to pay for the rest of the program to actually repair these errors. Is this incorrect?
If I do have to pay, then I'd like to look for an alternative... the program is $40; of course, that's cheaper than buying a new iPod, but I want to avoid that too.

  • File or directory is corrupt and unreadable - Updates

Every time I connect my U2 ipod to my computer...there is an update for my ipod and itunes EVERY DAY and I get an "exclamation" point with the following error message: The file or directory iPod\_Control\Device\SysInfo is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the chksk utility. I did that. It happened quick. I went to chksk.exe and all tests were good.
I have the 3.1 version on my ipod and 5.0.1 on itunes...what's wrong?

I updated my ipod to 3.1 and itunes to 5.0.1 and the problem is gone...this advice was given to me in the Apple Computer Forum...I posted there by mistake! This way could be softer because you will not lose anything...I just wanted you all to know there is another solution. Thank You.

  • Microsoft.WindowsAzure.targets, the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable - VS2013.

When I attempt to publish a role to Azure Cloud Services, I am presented with this error on line 2880.  The file path to the file is in the generic 2.3 tools folder.  Other projects are fine, it is just this project regardless of whether its Staging
or Production deployment and even creating another Cloud project does not resolve it.Turning on the detailed build log, it seems to fail at the CSPack stage which does correlate with line 2880 of the file.  I have completed a repair and reinstall of the
Azure Tools v2.3 to no avail.  I can open the file in question up and it doesn't look corrupted in Notepad. Any ideas?

    Hi,
To enable web application for Azure, you must create an Azure project with a web role in Visual Studio, and that project must be associated with the project for your application. To create the associated Azure project, open the shortcut menu for the project
for your application, and then choose Convert, Convert to Azure Cloud Service Project. After the Azure project is added to your solution, open the same shortcut menu again, and then choose
Publish . For more information about how to enable applications for Azure, see
How to: Migrate and Publish a Web Application to Azure from Visual Studio. Before we deploy our application to azure cloud service, we need to ensure the application can work as normal
    with no error.

  • ITunes recognises (and plays) CDs, asks if I'd like to import it but when I confirm, error message appears: 'Error occurred while converting the file track name . The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.'  Fix?

This problem seems to affect all CDs.  I've tried selecting and deselecting the 'error correction' box on the import settings but this makes no difference.  I'm running W7 Home Premium with SP1.  iTunes Version is: 11.1.3.8  Diagnostics confirms all CD/DVD Drive tests are successful.
As I say, iTunes will play the CD without ny problem.  Has anyone experienced this and what's the fix?

Thank you so much! I was in the same situation (iTunes library stored on external hard disk). Strangely, iTunes knew where my music was stored (i.e. if I clicked a song it would link to the library location and play with no problems). But in the "Advanced" settings, the location of my iTunes Library was blank. So I just pointed to the correct location and now everything is working OK! Thanks again.

  • Cannot sync the file or directory is corrupt or unreadable

I have removed the backups, removed all  photos restarted everything but I am still getting this error.  any ideas?

I dont get an error number.  It says The iPhone cannot be synced.  The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.
I managed to sync one time and then I tried to update the photos and got the error again.  Clearly there is some issue with the photos but I have removed everything from the camera role so it shouldn't be that but I cannot work out where the issue lies.
I also had a similar problem with my ipad which I haven't had time to investigate.  Could it be something to do with itunes itself?

Get this message plus "The file or directory iPod_Control/Music/F05 is corrupt and unreadable. Please run Chkdsk". I've run Chkdsk and it found no errors. iTunes will download a few songs to my iPod and then quit with these error messages.

To run the chkdsk utility, you go to Start Menu of the Windows task bar, and select "Run". Then you type in "chkdsk /f".

  • Ipod won't sync, it says it's corrupted and when I restore it it still won't sync

Alright well I have an 80 gb ipod classic. I tried to restore it because it wasn't working right. Songs would skip over, or it would play songs that it wasn't displaying on the screen.
Anyways, after restoring I attempted to sync it again with my library.  A few different things happen though. It will either say nothing, and when I disconnect it it says there's nothing on the ipod. Or it will say that the ipod is corrupted. Or it will say something about needing to restore the ipod because the recovery process didn't work. And the whole process just keeps looping and looping over and over. I've been dealing with this for a few days now and I have no idea what to do. Any help? Thanks in advance!

  • SOLVED: The file or folder is corrupted and unreadable.

On a Windows 7 Pro workstation, whenever a user logs in, they receive an error that the file C:\Windows\System32\en-us\winlogon.exe.mui is missing or corrupted. Every normal restart of Windows automatically invokes chkdsk c: /f. I've tried the
    following:
Run chkdsk c: /f /r. The first run found several soft problems, but no physical problems with the drive. A subsequent run found no problems.
Checking the memory. A bad stick was found and replaced. A re-run of the memory diagnostic with the new memory returns no errors. I believe that the problem was caused by the bad memory.
Run sfc /scannow. The CBS.log reveals that there are problems that can't be fixed.
An upgrade re-installation of the OS. It fails saying that there are problems on the disk.
Upon investigation, the file winlogon.exe.mui is missing, but there is now a subfolder by that name in C:\Windows\System32\en-us. That folder is not normal and, as far as I know, shouldn't exist. The folder cannot be deleted or renamed. All attempts to do
so fail with an error that "the file or folder is corrupt". Attempts to copy the file obtained from another computer also fail with the same error.
Every normal restart of Windows automatically invokes chkdsk c: /f, but no errors are reported. I've even tried booting from a USB-based OS and running chkdsk on the drive, but no errors are reported, although the error persists.
Before I reformat the drive and start from scratch (it's a custom workstation that will take more than a day to rebuild), I thought I'd ask if anyone has any ideas about what I can do. I'll be grateful for any suggestions.

  • "The Ipod cannot be updated. The file or directory is corrupted and..

what does this mean?? i can't add new songs.

If your iPod is corrupt then you have no choice but to restore it.
Before you do that, you may have some success getting the music off it and onto your hard drive again.
