Ipod cannot be synched (-124)

Everytime I try to put songs onto my ipod it says my ipod cannot be synched (-124), it does fine for about 5 or 6 songs then it displays the message above. Anyone out there run into a similar problem with a possible solution for me? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • The ipod cannot be synched. the disk could not be read from or written to?

So I've done everything possible to try to get my touch to sync all my songs from my itunes library at once and nothing is working. So sadly i spent the entire day plugging and unpluggin the usb cord because at most i could put 30 songs on my touch before it came up with the error "the ipod cannot be synched. The disk could not be read from or written to." this is very frustrating as i have many videos i purchased on itunes with anticipation of putting them on my touch but if i try to do so at most it downloads half then it pops up with the same error. If anyone of y'all can help, that would be greatly appreciated i'm slowly but surely giving up on the touch all together even though i love it this error to it is very time consuming and annoying.

Same problem. With an iPod Touch.
This began after I accidently pulled out the USB before it was fully ejected. (I hit eject, and the icon vanished from iTunes, so I THOUGHT I was okay...) But I got the error. And since then, I've got the error you speak of. Mine may be a tad off.
When I drag a song from iTunes or the Finder into the iPod it copies fine but then the error pops up.
But now it's fixed, and I'm not sure why. And I'm hoping it doesn't come back.
I remember I went into the iPod Touch itself. Went to...
Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
After that, I got back to the window from iTunes asking if I want to manually manage songs. I unchecked the box next to the choice of letting iTunes do it automatically.
But Even after that, I had the synching problem.
So I went into the main iPod Touch tab in iTunes. Under options the "Manually manage music and videos" box WAS CHECKED. I decided to uncheck it. Maybe the iPod was observing 'Opposite Day'. I know my cellphone does. On my cellphone, when I choose to play videos without sound, it plays WITH sound. So, I dunno...
Anyway, after I UNCHECKED "Manually manage music and videos" I ejected the iPod and reconnected it. And I plugged the USB into another port. Guess what? It didn't automatically synch. And when I added music on my own from either iTunes or the Finder, it worked well too. The weirdest thing... when I went to have a look at the box next to "Manually manage music and videos" - it had been checked again, without my doing.
UPDATE: And as I began typing that last sentence - THE ERROR CAME BACK. So.. NEVERMIND! I'm still stuck and angry!
*UPDATE II:* The error happened again after a song I was listing to in iTunes from the Touch ended. Once it ended, the error popped up and music stopped playing. I tried dragging a new song from iTunes into the Touch and it wouldn't let me. I unplugged and then plugged the iPod back in, and dragged songs again. So far it works... SO FAR. So far no errors. I tried deleting a song from the Touch and also no problem.
*UPDATE III:* I did a test. I added album artwork to songs that had none, already inside my Touch. It took a bit longer than it would have on my computer, but all tracks on the album got the art work, and the error message has yet to display since I did so.
*UPDATE IV* I've only been adding up to 10 songs at a time, worried that it would freeze. This time I added 31 songs, and they all imported - no error messages. Currently I'm worried that if I play a song from my Touch through iTunes the message will return. I'm too afraid to do it deliberately. I know I was able to do so with no problem with my 2nd Gen 10GB iPod I've had for years. That was working with my computer as of 3 days ago!

  • Error "The IPod cannot be synched. A duplicate file name was specified"

When I drag a song from my ITunes library to my Nano, an error pops up that says "The IPod cannot be synched. A duplicate file name was specified." I've read on other boards that I should delete the IToner bundle, but there is no IToner bundle in ITunes plug ins, just a Quartz Composer Visualizer. ANy suggestions on how to keep the error message from popping up every time I add a song?

Drag the song from Library to the playlist window then drag it to Devices instead of directly from the Library.

Try deleting the iPod Photo Cache from the nominated folder that you have set up to sync photos to the devices.

First try to resolve #2 by:
    See

    - I would start with
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Featurs appin the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components
    - New cable and different USB port
    - Run this and see if the results help with determine the cause

If you can resolve #1 and still get same message for #1 then you have to restore the iPod like the message says.

  • "The iPod cannot be synched. The required disk cannot be found."

Brand new 30GB video iPod, synching with a WindowsXP laptop. First time I plugged it in it synched beautifully (I already had iTunes v7 installed). Then I bought some new tunes and a TV show on iTunes the same day and tried synching again, but got this error: "The iPod cannot be synched. The required disk cannot be found." Huh? It just worked a second ago.
So after much frustration and trial-and-error, I finally de-installed and re-installed iTunes v7 on my laptop. Restarted computer, and synching functions again. Yah! Then I got overconfident: I bought MORE iTunes and TV shows. Now the same "required disk missing" error. What disk??? I can't keep de-installing and re-installing iTunes every time I buy a new song just to get it to synch!
    Can somebody help?

Thanks! This got me some momentum, but even after adding the patch and restoring my iPod, it still hangs while synching. I let it synch and run all night long, and in the morning I still got the "do not disconnect" sign on the iPod and the "synching" message on iTunes. The new videos/songs did synch eventually, but every time I plug in the iPod it hangs after synching.
Maybe iPod/iTunes just don't like PCs?

  • Ipod cannot be synched. A duplicate file name was specified (Ipod Classic)???

Whenever I plug my ipod classic in to itunes I receive the following message:
The ipod "ipod name" cannot be synched. A duplicate file name was specified
    I have tried the following:
    Renaming the ipod
Running Itunes as an Administrator with the UAC in windows 7 turned to the lowest level
Refreshing device manager to scan for hardware changes
    Restoring the ipod from Itunes
Resetting the ipod itslef (holding down the menu an dcenter buttons)
All of the above of course did not work. I did notice that when I would click ok on the "cannot be synched" message, Itunes would synch the ipod and I would see songs and podcasts on my ipod but they would not play at all.
Someone please help. Again, my OS is Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit. I have also tried this on my Windows 7 Professional 32 bit system with the same results. My itunes program on both computers is the latest

  • IPod Cannot Be Synched

I've had my 30G 5th Generation iPod for about 2 years now and I've never had this problem before. I connected my iPod to my computer (I have Windows) to update it and this error message appeared: "The iPod (my name) cannot be synched. The required disc cannot be found." I've tried synching my iPod several times and watched to see what song it was on while it was being synched, but everytime the error message appears on a different song. what do i do?!

i was given a 80gb ipod for a gift and after purchasing songs from itunes the darn thing will not sync. I get a message saying a module error in ipod has occured and windows needs to shut down. I have rebooted my computer, as well as re sert my ipod etc and still get the same message!!! p;ease help cause i think this is not fair. All of us who have the 5th generation ipod are all having problems with ours and we spent alot of $$$$ on it and for the darn thing to not work is stupid..

  • "The iPod cannot be synched. An unknown error has occured (-48)."

My iTunes won't synch any new music files (photos synch fine) sighting that unknown error as the source. Now, I'm afraid to restore my iPod because a lot of the files have been moved and thus need to be relocated on iTunes, but if it won't alter my moved files, I'll try it. But does anyone else have a suggestion?

I have the same problem. This is the only place on the whole internet where I've seen the same error (-48). I've tried reinstalling itunes, restoring the ipod, and resetting the ipod. It syncs fine with my imac, but with the pc (which has all my music on it) this error comes up.

  • I just downloaded the latest version of Itunes and now get message "The (name) ipod cannot be synched. I deleted I-tunes, rebooted and reinstalled it and same error occurs.  Any help would be appreciated. Using Windows 7

This new version does not show what file it was trying to synch when the problem occurred.   I've seen some suggestions re deleting a cache file but I can't find it on my pc.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
    Thanks
    Bonnie

I just wanted to post that I found my I-pod cache file and deleted it and now synchronization works fine, so no need for anyone to post an answer to this.   Thank you very much.

  • "Ipod cannot be synched, required file not found" What do I do?!?!?!

I get this message, and then whan I try to restore my ipod, it says it cant be restored, error 1418.

    Nobody has any advice?

  • "The ipod cannot be synched. You do not have privileges to make changes"

This is the 2nd ipod nano to have this problem. SUddenly itunes won't recognise the ipod and generates the above error. It also displays "The disk "xxx iPod was not repairable by this computer"
In the first case we were able to restore the iPod as per the instructions. In this case even restore won't work. It will not show up in Finder either, despite following the instructions to make sure it is...
Since the music on the ipod is fine, it seems silly for Apple to suggest that it must be reformatted etc.
Any sensible suggestions? Is there a good alternative to iPod ?

  • My iPod won't synch on my new computer

I got a new computer and transferred my music and iTunes to the new computer. Now, when I plug in my iPod Nano and/or iPod mini to my new computer, I get an error message that says "The iPod cannot be synched. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation."
Does anyone know how to resolve this problem??

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
This is the iPod touch - connect to Mac discussion area. As you have neither a touch or a Mac, you might want to consider posting in one of the more appropriate areas in the future.
As to your specific problem, you need to Administrator access in Windows XP to make this work. I'm not sure how your account is setup in XP, but it needs to be changed to allow Admin access.

  • IPod Classic 120gb cannot be synched - unknown error 13014

While using iTunes 8.0.1 as I usually would, I unintentionally unplugged my ipod 120gb classic from the usb drive briefly. I plugged it back in and went to play a track and got the 'The iPod "ipodname" cannot by synched. An unknown error occurred (13014)' error that I've been reading has been affecting iphone/ipod touch users. I never have enabled synching though - I do all my music management through manual means since my pc is where I store my music - I just stream the songs off of my ipod when I'm on my macbook. This error comes up pretty much every time the track switches or just generally when songs are playing back from my ipod - not from the select few files that are on my macbook's local drive. It's horribly annoying! I can't ignore it either because the itunes icon bounces around on the dock until I click okay to dismiss it, and I can't switch tracks or pause with a keystroke or within itunes using the cursor until I dismiss it.
Thus far I have tried several things that were suggested in the iphone/ipod touch suggestions, including exiting the program, restarting the computer, restarting the computer and restarting the ipod, installing Applejack and repairing the permissions and clearing the cache, using the Disk Utility and repairing the permissions like that, powering down the system for a minute, upgrading to 8.0.2., and completely reinstalling (using 8.0.2 since apple has taken down the previous version).
I'm at my wits end here.. I need a solution.
    Help!

I don't use Genius so its not a feature I have running.. I've tried every suggestion I've read (that seemed to fix most people's problems) and still am having an issue. The computer I'm currently on is running version 8.0.0 of iTunes and I'm not having issues though..
