"ipod cannot be updated...required file in use" error message HELP!

So I just updated my itunes with the new 7.0 and everything works great, except-- every 10 mins or so, I get this error message "The ipod "xxx's ipod" cannot be updated. The required file is in use."
Nothing happens, I just have to click "ok", but its really annoying. And it pops up again in a few minutes.
I seem to remember this happening before on another update but I don't remember what I did.
Anyone else experiencing this or know what to do?
Thanks!!

I am having the exact same problem -- Itunes version 7 update seems to have created this issue. I get this error message about every five minutes if my Ipod is plugged into my computer, "Ipod cannot be updated. Required file is in use." Super annoying. I noticed a solution posted on this forum but it doesn't seem to work for Macs. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Hi,
Connect your iPod to the PC and start the iTunes application (most likely it will start automatically when you connect the iPod).
In the left column you will see a heading "DEVICES". Below that is a small icon that represents your iPod. It might take a few seconds to appear, though.
Click on the icon, on the right a pane will appear with 5 headings (Summary, Music, Podcasts, Photos, Contacts).
Click on Photos. A page will appear with on the top line something like: "Sync photos from:" with a box beside it that displays the directory name of your photos.
Click on that box and select "Choose Folder"
A dialog willappear with a directory tree, your photo folder is highlighted. Expand that folder by clickin on the "+" sign next to it.
The expanded list will contain an item "iPod Photo Cache".
Right click that item and select "Delete".
Windows asks whether you're sure. Click YES if you are.
After the deletion, click "OK" to close the dialog.
Right click on the iPod icon again and select "Sync". You're photo cache will be rebuilt for you. This takes a few minutes, depending on the amount of photos you have.
    That's it.
Hope it works for you. I have assumed you use English for both Windows and iTunes.

    Henk.

That DLL is part of your printer driver; reinstall or update the device driver for your printer, and the message should go away.

  • "Ipod Cannot Be Updated, The File Required Is Missing" - Can someone help?

I just got this error today and its bugging me.
Whenever I try to update my ipod it gives me a new window saying "IPOD (name) cannot be updated, the file required is missing."
ummm I thought maybe if i restored my ipod the file would be restored too but that didnt work....
After i restored it, the itunes library updated my ipod with all my original playlists and videos, but now when i try to update it and sync my pictures to it or create new playlists, it gives me that message.
Can anyone give me some advice on what i can do to fix this problem? i do have the iTunes 7.01 my ipod is the 60G Ipod Video (White)
Thanks for your help guys, i really need it.

I just dealt with the same problem. None of the answers people gave to the problem worked!
Whatever it is that you're trying to put into your iPod... make sure that the file is located in your "My Music" file first.
Basically, when you get that message double check and if what you selected isn't in "My Music" drag and drop into it and try again.
    I hope that helped!
    I know... so frustrating.

  • The iPod cannot be updated  The file or directory is corrupted or unreadabl

I have started getting the above error message every time I connect my iPod to update. I have reinstalled iTunes, but still no joy. My computer advises me to run utility 'chkdsk' which I have done, but I still cannot update my iPd with the last 37 songs I have downloaded. I am not sure if this is an iPod problem or computer software
    Has anyone any suggestions.

It can be either some bad sectors on the HD of your iPod or there are couples corrupted music files on your iTunes
For the bad sectors, see doing the following helps
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
    For Window computer
    Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
    Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
For corrupted music files on the iTunes, you have to find a way to find them out, and delete them.
Oh,one more thing, try to change your iPod drive letter and see if it helps

  • Required File In Use - ERROR

I just purchased a 8Gb Nano, I have it formatted for Mac. When I connect it via the USB cable, iTunes{7.0 (70)} launches almost immediately. I get the following error message: The iPod "iPod Nano" cannot be updated. The required file is in use. I have disk mode enabled. I am manually uploading songs into it. The same happens to my 30Gb fifth generation iPod. Does any one know what the story is? Is it me or the new version of iTunes?
    Thanks,
    Dmitry

    Any Suggestions?

  • Keep getting "required file in use" error when importing from a disc

Installed 12.0.1 this weekend and now cannot import songs from a disc (have tried on several different discs). I keep getting the error message that "Error occurred while converting the file. The required file is in use). Have rebooted several times with no improvement.  There doesn't seem to be any problem playing anything off my existing library, but I also get failure messages when purchasing from Amazon. Anyone have ideas?

    Any Suggestions?

  • My iPod will not update on iTunes. A error message pops up

I have been trying to update my ipod and it has really been making me upset. I try it at least every week, to see if it will work, but it doesn't. I can't even get the apps I want, because my ipod needs to be updated to a iOS 4.3. Everytime I try to update it, I go to devices, then I press update to 4.3 or something like that, and then it's about 30 seconds, and then a message pops up and say,"There is a problem with your connection, try contacting a server, reconnecting the internet, or try again later." The message is related something to that. I try to reconnect, come back later, and it still does the same thing. I am getting very tired of this. I need somebody to PLEASE tell me how to fix this, PPPPPPPLLLLLLEEEEEAASSEEE!!!!! Thank you!

Try disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall during the download and update.

  • Form- Submit Button/Drop-down file format and error message HELP (!!)

I am setting up a form with a drop-down menu and a submit a form button that is supposed to email the form. My coworker opened it and filled it out and pressed submit and it replied "the file may be read-only or another user may have it open..." How do I fix this problem as the creator of the form not the receiver? Also, is there a way that I can save it in a format that would allow people who do not have adobe acrobat reader on their computers to still be able to use the drop-down and submit button?
