Ipod cannot be used because the required software is not installed run the itunes installer to remove itunes then install again.

this is really annoying, because at first there was an msi error and now theres this. I have a new ipod and i want to back it up to my computer because my icloud is completely full, but obviously my computer wont let me.
okay ive tried the uninstall the components seperate, ive tried uninstalling from the control panel and install apple mobile device support seperately but that messed somethings up aswell so i had to back track and im back at square one.
I have this windows vista home desktop, i think the whole thing started when we forgot to update itunes for a long while on the computer and i guess thigs didnt get installed properly when we finally did catch up to updating and i guess thats the whole cause of the problems but i know theres a way to fix it and i need help because i have literally pulled my hair out over it.
PLEASE HELP

If you're using a fourth generation or earlier iPod touch, click here and download the software.
If you're using a fifth generation iPod touch and an Intel Mac, buy Mac OS X 10.6 from the online Apple Store and run Software Update.
If you're using a fifth generation iPod touch and a PowerPC Mac, buy a newer computer.

  • IPod cannot be used because it requires iTunes 10.0 or later on Tiger

I just purchased a new iPod touch for a friend and she is getting the following error from iTunes when she connects the iPod to her MBP:
"The iPod "iPod" cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 10.0 or later. Go to www.itunes.com to download the latest version of iTunes"
She has an Intel Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro, running Mac OS X 10.4.11 and Quicktime Player 7.6.4.
Is she able to sync the iPod and iTunes on her Mac running Tiger? And if not, is there an alternative that will allow her to sync?
EDIT: Software update says everything is up-to-date.
    Thanks!

She needs to upgrade to Leopard.
    As per Apple's website:
    Mac requirements
Mac computer with USB 2.0 port
Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later
    iTunes 10 or later
Broadband Internet access is required (fees may apply)

This is the error I keep getting.  Anyone know what to do?

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • IPod Touch iOS6 cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 10.6.3 or later.

Hi, just now I've updated my iPod Touch 4th generation to iOS 6 and I backed it up on iTunes before. Now I want to restore that backup but when I plug it onto my iMac (running OS X 10.5.8), iTunes pops up a message that says: "The iPod "Trang's iPod touch" cannot be used be because it requires iTunes version 10.6.3 or later. Go to www.itunes.com to download the latest version of iTunes". My iTunes right now is iTunes 10.6 (40) if that helps. I pressed iTunes > Check for Updates... then it says that I have the current version! I did the same with apple logo > Software Update, and nothing new. I then went on itunes.com and the newest version is 10.7, except I don't want to risk to download it and lose all my music files again, and it's not even compatible with my iMac!
Like said, my version cannot sync over wi-fi because iCloud also isn't compatible with Leopard. What do I do? Do I HAVE to buy an update for Snow Leopard then be able to sync my iPod? They don't even sell physical copies in stores anymore.. now I'm stuck with a clean state iOS 6 iPod. If I knew, I wouldn't have updated it. Is there any way to go back?
    Regards

I'm having a similar problem, but moved on a few versions. I've been given an iPod nano, but when I try to add music to it I get an error message saying, "The iPod “iPod” cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 10.7 or later" and inviting me to download the latest version. However, I'm using iOS 10.5.8, and the computer can't update to a newer version. That, in turn, limits me to versions of iTunes no later than 10.6.3.
Is there a way to make the new iPod connect to my still very much functional but not new Macbook? All help gratefully received!

  • This ipod cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the Itunes installer to remove Itunes, then install the 64-bit version of Itunes.

I'm not sure if the error message is related but smart friend was using my computer started deleting Quicktime & Safari and told me that they shouldn't be on my computer as they are not windows product & I can't use them on my laptop. With trepidation but acknowledging I don't know any of the stuff they were talking about, I allowed them to raid my laptop thinking it could be for the best. Now I'm not sure if it is related or not but depsite me having the most recent Itunes updates on both my Ipod 4TH GT, I am getting the following message everytime I connect my Ipod to the computer...and the timing would be about right too:
this ipod cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the Itunes installer to remove Itunes, then install the 64-bit version of Itunes.
If it helps I am running the 10.7.0.21 on the Sony Vaio & remember checking last week I do have the latest update on the Ipod but it is a different version from the Itunes on the laptop (which may be normal, I wouldn't know) but as I am away from home & Wifi I can't tell u the version on that though.
My problem is I cannot find an apple installer on the laptop to uninstall & I have searched Apple & Google for help and have seen others posts with the same issue but alot of the answers unfortunately I can't follow. I would greatly appreciate it if you can you answer any of these questions for me?
*Will add & remove totally uninstall Itunes so that I can reinstall?
*Will I lose my apps, music & data?
*If the apps, music & data is recoverable, how do I do that?
Sadly I can't find the installer & would love to add my new Mumford & Sons cd to my Ipod collection but don't know how to fix this. I love my Ipod & google but I have spent hours tryign updates, downloads, searches & feedback to Apple. A few months ago I had an Itunes billing problem & there was a webpage where you could email an apple support worker & rhe replied to my credit card problem within a day or 2 but I can't find that help for this problem..I couldn't express my graditude enough if you could help me with this, but thank you.

This "smart friend" really sounds like a collosal moron.
Follow the instructions here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925  to remove and reinstall all Apple products on your computer.
Once you get everything working, the next time your "smart friend" wants to touch your computer, tell them firmly NOT A CHANCE IN ****!
None of your data (media, podcasts, apps) will be affected by removing and reinstalling iTunes.

  • "This iPod cannot be used because the required software is not installed.."

Ok so I have a LONG list of problems with my ipod touch and Vista, I have Vista Home Premium and iTunes wouldnt even install because it gave me a "Vista" error "microsoft.vc80.CRT,public Key Token="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",version="8.0 .50727.762"processorArchitecture="x86" Please refer to help and support for more information." I found out this was a vista related error but managed to get iTunes 7.5 to work even though this error showed up during installation yet when it rolled back the install and then reinstalled itself, it installed successfully. (I have tried the same with version 8 of iTunes and above but instead of the successful iTunes install like 7.5 and stuff do, it says the install was interrupted and couldnt install)
Ok so now when I plug in my (fw 2.2.1) ipod touch it says "This iPod cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes. Then reinstall." But I have 7.5 so iPod Touches should work! My computer recognizes it as a camera but that is as far as I get.
1 more thing. I have the usbaapl.sys in the system32/drivers folder that iTunes installed, so I dont get why it cant read my ipod...
PLEASE, if you can help in any way please help!
    THANKS!

does this have anything to do with anything?
Yes. The iPod touch will not be recognized by iTunes if the Apple Mobile Device service is not running.
What security software is running on the PC? Try to reconfigure, temporarily disable, or uninstall the security software. Then reinstall iTunes or repair the Apple Mobile Device installation from Control Panel.

  • ITunes says that my iPod cannot be used because the required software is not installed.  Says to install 64-bit version.  Problem is 64-bit version is installed already.

I have a 64 GB iPod operating on iOS 5.1.1 (says software is up to date).  I finally was able to download iTunes 64 Bit to my computer and open it.  Now when I connect my iPod to the computer, I get a message saying "This iPod cannot be used because the required software is not installed.  Tun the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install the 64-bit version of iTunes."    I have removed iTunes from my computer and downloaded the 64-bit version again and installed it.  I still get the same message.

    Hi antiklady,
I see that you may be having an issue with compatibility of iTunes when connecting your iOS device. This sort of issue can arise if you have two versions of iTunes installed on your computer, which I feel may be the case. Here is an article that can tell you how to identify the version of iTunes that you have open:
iTunes: How to find which version you are using - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201521
If the version of iTunes that is opened is not the version you are required to use for the iOS device in question, try searching through your computer or applications folder to see if there may be two versions of iTunes installed on your computer. Then, uninstall the version that is incompatible using these steps:
Remove and reinstall iTunes and related software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 - Apple Support

  • Everytime I connect my iPod to USB, iTunes says the following: This iPod cannot be used because the required software is not installed.  Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install the 64-bit version of iTunes.

I have the latest 64-bit version of iTunes on Windows 7 Ultimate.  Everything was fine until recently.  Now when I connect my iPod Touch to the USB to sync with iTunes, I get the following message:  "This iPod cannot be used because the required software is not installed.  Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install the 64-bit version of iTunes"  I have removed, repaired, and installed the 64-bit version numerous times as well as disabled all antivirus / adware utilities.  Same message appears when I plug in my iPod.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you try removing and reinstalling all the Apple software using these instructions:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7

  • This iPod cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes and then reinstall it again

I tried yesterday to install iTunes on a XP Services Pack 3 Pc, It said that it couldn't install it. So after much reading last night, i downloaded Revo Uninstaller Pro, and uninstalled all apple software, included Bonjour, Quicktime and Apple Support along with iTunes. I then, used Ccleaner to double check that nothing apple related was left in the registry.
After doing all the above, i rebooted the PC, and downloaded a fresh copy of iTunes from the website, and installed it. I installed the first time of asking. I then pulged in my Son's new iPod, and it detected it as a scanner/Camera, and behind that was a message that said the following:" This iPod cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes then install iTunes again"
I've tried doing this, and it keeps coming up with the same message
    Can anyone help please

In Windows 7, go to Control Panel (usually in the Start menu) and look for Add and Remove Programs. It will load a long list of programs. Find iTunes on that list and uninstall it. Then try using the 64-bit installer.
