IPod cannot connect with YouTube

Every time I try to connect my iPod touch 2nd gen to YouTube it gives me an error: cannot connect to network source, too many redirections.
This is not an exact quote, but it's been there for three days and youtube is not available. I have tried resetting the device and re-entering the password but it still will not let me access YouTube.
When I try to log into YouTube, or even access the page, it does redirect me about seven or eight times before I get that error.
Is anyone else having this problem? And if so, was anything you did able to correct it?

You can start with these very basic troubleshooting tips. There are no guarantees, but quite often one of these will work for you.
Quit YouTube by double tapping the home button to bring up the multitasking/recents tray at the bottom, hold down on any of the app icons in the tray until all the icons wiggle, then tap the minus sign in the corner to quit the offending app or apps. Try your app again.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button at the top of the iPad until the red slider appears, then slide to the right to power off the iPad. Turn the iPad on again by pressing the sleep button until the Apple logo appears. Once the iPad has fully rebooted, and tap the YouTube icon to relaunch.
Try a hard reset by pressing and holding down on the sleep button at the top of the iPad while holding down on the home button at the bottom, until the Apple logo appears and the iPad restarts. Launch the YouTube again and see what happens.

  • Ipod cannot connect with itunes

My iPod will not connect with iTunes, it doesn't even show up on iTunes. I know the cord is working because my ipod is charging, but I don't know what to do?
    Please help!

Sorry for being cut off. More info: iPod Touch was connected to Dell running Windows vista running most recent iTunes. Had a BSOD while attached. The Touch runs fine. Plays music, playlists, all apps, wifi, iTunes without a problem. Can download through iTunes OTA without a problem. When I attach the Touch to the computer, it recognizes that the Touch is attached (is in My Computer), but iTunes gives the message "iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPod <name>. Go to summary tab..." I see that this is a common error, but there is no solution I've found.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes with no success. It seems odd that the Touch works fine but cannot connect. I really don't want to wipe it clean.
Any suggestions will be most welcome.

  • Has anyone solved the notorious "Cannot Connect to Youtube" Error?

Whenever I open the Youtube app I get "Cannot connect to Youtube" no matter what why network I'm on no matter how I'm connected. EVERYTHING else on the phone works perfectly.
Even the youtube website works fine via safari but the videos WILL NOT PLAY.
I have tried all the hit or miss speculative solutions that people claim work for them:
*Change the date past the year 2030 and then back again.
    *Hard reset the phone
    *Power on power off
    *Reset network settings
    *Full reset of settings
    *Trying different networks
*Connecting to the computer and synching the phone and the apps
None of these work. Some people claim success with one or more of the different methods above but it doesn't work for me and many others. This issue has been going on for a LONG time and it is WIDESPREAD (just search this forum or the internet at large via google and you will see). It spans across multiple devices (iPhone and iPod Touch alike) and multiple software versions across multiple generations of the devices. I find it appalling that Apple is silent on this gaping bug.
Does anyone have a solution? Does anyone know how to get Apple to DO SOMETHING?
    Thanks.

Are you senior executives in Apple's cost cutting in the customer service and quality control department or what?
+If it works fine on your friends iPhones when they come over it does not sound like a bug, it sounds like a problem with your iPhone.+
It IS a problem with my iPhone. Anything that causes one of the built in operating applications to fail frequently under normal use whether or not it happens on every device consistently is absolutely by definition a bug.
+Explain why the alleged bug is not on every iPhone then ? This is the bit that you fail to explain in every post you make.+
It may not be on every phone but it definitely is on MANY, what triggers it is unknown. Microsoft releases hundreds if not thousands of bug fixes every year. Why don't all the HUNDREDS of millions of Windows users all experience every single bug? By your logic none of these bugs exists because every single user doesn't experience them. I can't remember the last time I personally experienced one of the bugs that all these mountains of bug fixes I download through windows update automatically correct so I guess none of those bugs actually exist.
+I have read a lot more articles by people who think the world is flat and that means nothing. There are 10 million odd iPhones, 50 people isn't a conclusive fault. explain why 9,999,950 of them appear to work fine?+
There are thousands of people with this problem. With a problem like this a person with even shred of intellect would read a few posts from a few different sources and come to an informed conclusion on the issue rather than dedicate the next six months of their life to reading every single thing ever written about it. Once you see the pattern is exactly the same even in 10 plus posts and it's obvious there are THOUSANDS more you can conclude it's not an isolated incident.
+Thats hardly conclusive - there are youtube video's on how to make an egg custard but that doesn't mean nobody can make one without instruction, or that all egg custards made are defective somehow.+
Inappropriate and just flat out wrong analogy. If there was a "how to make custard when it fails in a specific way consistently" then your analogy would be appropriate. The "how to FIX x" youtube video is not analogous to "how to use your iphone" or "how to do x." In any event comparing egg custard to an iphone is clearly apples to oranges - or more like apples to nuclear reactors.
+Don't bother quoting Google Stats - you can get hits on every search string you put in, and one post gets copied again and again and comes up as multiple hits.+
Really? I had no idea google one of the most successful companies in the world had such a faulty and defective search engine that it gives phony results. Have you told them? Maybe they will hire you to fix it.
You may get SOME hits for any garbage you put in (not really ANY but a lot of garbage) but they won't be very many.
"asldfjla adfkjdsafd" - 0 hits (looks like you're wrong again)
"random string of nonsense searching" - 22,500 hits
"iphone "compass not working"" - 7,700 hits
"ipod "calendar not working"" - 4,570 hits
"iphone "calendar not working"" - 8,490 hits
"iphone "stocks not working"" - 3 hits (really google makes too many phony hits? Are you sure you dont' mean not enough - do you really believe only 3 people ever uttered these words on the ENTIRE internet???)
"iphone "calculator not working"" - 23,900 hits
"iphone "cannot connect to youtube"" - 980,000 hits
"ipod "cannot connect to youtube"" - 859,000 hits
Yep I see it, it's settled now. It definitely must be something I just made up. Looks like nobody else is having that problem. Must not mean a thing that there are more than 100 times more articles on this built in app than a couple others I picked at random. I'm glad you settled this for me how google is broken and only my iphone is misconfigured and the "cannot connect to youtube" error is not widespread.

try to exit out of the youtube app with the multitasking feature. if this doesnt work then try to do a manual restart by holding down the home and power/sleep button all the way past the "slide to unlock" screen until the ipod will power off and the apple symbol will appear when the ipod tuens back on

  • Folder with Exclaimation Point Error AND Ipod cannot connect to itunes

I left my Ipod in my truck (cold out) for about a week, using it about every other day (always seemed to work fine)... then all of the sudden I went to turn it on and after the Apple icon, I get an error in the form of a picture of a folder with an exclaimation point. When I try to plug my ipod into my computer (to perhaps restore the settings or something) my computer recognizes the USB device, the ipod screen says "do not disconnect" and then shortly after, without it connecting to itunes, it disconnects itself and goes back to the apple screen. Any Ideas? The Apple instructions for dealing with this havn't worked.
My Ipod is I believe a "second generation"(?). It is a 20-gig ipod with a click wheel, about 2 years old now.

    Hello,
If a sad iPod icon or an exclamation point and folder icon appears on your iPod’s screen, or with sounds of clicking or HD whirring, it is usually the sign of a hard drive problem and you have the power to do something about it now. Your silver bullet of resolving your iPod issue – is to restore your iPod to factory settings.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983
If you're having trouble, try these steps at different levels one at a time until the issue is resolved. These steps will often whip your iPod back into shape.
Make sure you do all the following “TRYs”
    A. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    B. Try another FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    C. Try another FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    D. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    E. Try to download and install the latest version of iPod software and iTunes
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
For old and other versions of iPod updater for window you can get here
    http://www.ipodwizard.net/showthread.php?t=7369
    F. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
    G. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
If none of these steps address the issue, you may need to go to Intermediate level listed below in logical order. Check from the top of the lists to see if that is what keeping iPod from appearing on your computer in order for doing the Restore.
    Intermediate Level
    A. Try to connect your iPod with another computer with the iPod updater pre-installed.
    B. Still can’t see your iPod, put it in Disk Mode and connect with a computer, instead of doing a Restore on iPod Updater. Go and format the iPod instead.
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
    For Window computer
    Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
    Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
In case you do not manage to do a “Format” on a window computer, try to use some 3rd party disk utility software, e.g.“HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool”.

    C. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    Tips
    a. It does not matter whether the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted firmware files on the Hard Drive of the iPod. After that, when the iPod re-connected with a computer, it will be recognized as an fresh external hard drive, it will show up on the iTunes 7.
    b. It is not a difficult issue for a Mac user to find a window base computer, for a PC user, if they can’t find any Mac user, they can go to a nearest Apple Shop for a favor.
    c. You may need to switch around the PC and Mac, try to do several attempts between “Format” and “Restore”

    Advance Level
    A. Diagnostic mode solution
If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
    iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select"
The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:
iPod 1G to 3G: "REW", "FFW" and "Select"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Back" and "Select"
You will hear an audible chirp sound (3G models and higher) and the Apple logo should appear backwards. You are now in Diagnostic Mode. Navigate the list of tests using "REW" and "FFW". The scroll wheel will not function while in diagnostic mode. For further details on Diagnostic mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/
Try to do the 5in1, HDD R/W and HDD scan tests. Some successful cases have been reported after the running the few tests under the Diagnostic mode. In case it does not work in your case, and the scan tests reports show some errors then it proves your iPod has a hardware problem and it needs a repairing service.
    B. Format your iPod with a start disk
I have not tried this solution myself, I heard that there were few successful cases that the users managed to get their iPod (you must put your iPod in disk mode before connecting with a computer) mounted by the computer, which was booted by a system startup disk. For Mac, you can use the Disk Utility (on the Tiger OS system disk), for PC user, you can use the window OS system disk. Try to find a way to reformat your iPod, again it does not matter which format (FAT32, NTFS or HFS+) you choose, the key is to erase the corrupted system files on the iPod. Then eject your iPod and do a Reset to switch out from Disk Mode. Reboot your computer at the normal way, connect your iPod back with it, open the iPod updater, and hopefully your iPod will appear there for the Restore.
If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired.
Consider setting up a mail-in repair for your iPod http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
Or visit your local Apple Retail Store http://www.apple.com/retail/
In case your iPod is no longer covered by the warranty and you want to find a second repairing company, you can try iPodResQ at your own risk
    http://www.ipodresq.com/index.php
Just in case that you are at the following situation
    Your iPod warranty is expired
You don’t want to pay any service charges
You are prepared to buy a new one
You can’t accept the re-sell value of your broken iPod
Rather than leave your iPod as paper-weight or throw it away.
You can try the following, but again, only do it as your last resort and at your own risk.
Warning !!!! – It may or may not manage to solve your problem, and with a risk that you may further damage your iPod, which end up as an expensive paper weight or you need to pay more higher repairing cost. Therefore, please re-consider again whether you want to try the next level
    Last Resort Level
    1. . Disconnecting the Hard Drive and battery inside the iPod – Warning !! Your iPod warranty will be waived once you open the iPod.
In Hong Kong there are some electronic shops offering an iPod service for Sad iPod, the first thing they do is to open up the iPod’s case and disconnecting the battery and the Hard Drive from the main board of the iPod. Wait for 5-10 minutes and reconnecting them back. The reason behind which I can think of is to do a fully reset of a processor of the iPod. In case you want do it itself and you believe that you are good on fixing the electronics devices and have experience to deal with small bits of electronic parts, then you can read the following of how to open the iPod case for battery and HDD replacement (with Quicktimes)
    http://eshop.macsales.com/tech_center/index.cfm?page=Video/directory.html
2.Press the reset button on the Hard Drive inside the iPod – Suggestion from Kill8joy
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2438774#2438774
Have I tried these myself? No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. Therefore, I agree with suggestion to have it fixed by a Pro.
    2. Do a search on Google and some topics on this discussion forum about “Sad iPod”

Finally, I read a fair comments from dwb, regarding of slapping the back of the iPod multiple times
Quote “This has been discussed numerous times as a 'fix'. It does work, at least for a while. In fact I remember using the same basic trick to revive Seagate and Quantam drives back in the mid to late 1980's. Why these tiny hard drives go bad I don't know - could be the actuator gets stuck in place or misaligned. Could be the platter gets stuck or the motor gets stuck. 'Stiction' was a problem for drives back in the 80's. Unfortunately the fix can cause damage to the platter so we temporarily fix one problem by creating another. But I know of two instances where a little slap onto the table revived the iPods and they are still worked a year or more later.”UnQuote

I'm able to pull up YouTube on safari but, when I try and connect using the app it displays "cannot connect to YouTube."
My bookmarks tab no longer exists on safari either. Only the history tab and ipad user guide. I've tried resetting and connecting to itunes and browsing the store and then syncing as one of the other posts suggested however, that did not work with my ipad. Both of these problems happened simultaneously.

    Hi,
About two days ago my shuffle started to send me an error message that it cannot connect with iTunes because it's not formated properly.
So I've already updated the softwer, I tried to use it with every single USB port on my computer and searched for solutions on the net but couldn't find any useful information...
I literally see the following message: The iPod "194" cannot be used with iTunes because it is not formatted properly.
    Any ideas?....

  • Dreaded "cannot connect to youtube" but only over WiFi.  Twitterific bad to

Okay, so here's the deal... for some reason on my home WiFi, my iPhone (and my wife's) suddenly isn't working right.
I get the "cannot connect to YouTube" error in the YouTube app. I get a "Twitter API Error - the connection to Twitter failed with 'can't find host'" error in Twitterific. Scrabble won't let me connect to Facebook. I can only assume there are other problems as well.
Here's the deal - it's only happening while connected to WiFi. I turn it off and use 3G, and it all works fine. Thing is, I want to use my WiFi connection. Any thoughts on why this suddenly started happening? Worked fine yesterday. I've reset both my DSL modem and my wireless router to no avail. Nothing has changed since then.
    (My DSL is through Embarq)
    Any thoughts?

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that most everything else is working fine on it. My email is coming through, and regular Safari stuff is working.

Yes, I am connected to the Internet through my wifi. Everything is working fine with the e  eption of youtube.  I have reset all Internet settings and have tried synching to iTunes followed by rebooting.  This is all the advice I have found although none of it has been helpful.
Has anyone else encountered this problem?

  • Why does the YouTube app say "Cannot Connect to YouTube" over Wifi or 3G?

    Hi, everyone.
When I open the YouTube app with Wifi or 3G, it says "Cannot Connect to YouTube."  I've browse a few sites, and the number one response is to reset the router.  I tried resetting the router (Latest Apple AirPort Extreme) to factory default and Restoring the iPad 2 from Backup.  I would believe the router issue to be plausible if 3G worked.  Since YouTube doesn't work over 3G, I don't believe the router is the issue.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thank you.

Me too, ipad mini can't get YouTube app to function via the official app and the same error message," ...tap to retry", but to no avail. The app launches but it will not allow me to sign in. The drop arrow just tilts up and down and ...nothing. I can still access YouTube through Safari browser but strange, I can't find a solution to the app not opening or being able to sign in on either ipad mini or phone even though they are up to date apps.

  • Cannot connect to YouTube on iPad 2

After upgrading to iOS 5, my iPad 2 seemed fine, but the next day I suddenly got "cannot connect to YouTube" when using the YouTube app.
Other iOS devices on the same wifi LAN connected fine. The iPad had been fine for a day after upgrading.
I looked at all the (many) threads with the same problem, I followed all the suggested fixes, nothing worked.
Enabling restrictions, disabling the YouTube app so that the icon vanished allowed Safari on the iPad to connect to the YouTube sites, but most of these require Flash and we all know the story there...
I fixed the problem by backing up the iPad 2, doing a complete restore to factory settings and then a restore from that backup, all from iTunes on the Mac. Problem solved, YouTube app working again.

Are you trying to connect over WiFi? Or cellular? Does this happen on all networks or just certain ones?
And, just for my edification, what is "Twitch"?

  • How get around "Cannot connect with iTunes Store" when updating apps?

I have several Apps with updates indicated. When I select App Store, it goes to the updates but when I try to update, I get "Cannot connect with iTunes Store." But otherwise I can get to the iTunes Store itself. Where does "Report problem" appear? Not on my Touch (which is updated).

Try it from the computer that you sync with, then sync the updated apps over to the iPod.
