  • IPod Reports no songs or playlists, however iPod is full.

I have a 30gb 5G ipod that has never had any problems until I loaded it full of new songs (around 20,000 of them) which are small files for foreign language study. Subsequently, the iPod reports that there are no songs or playlists. However, the ipod is roughly 17 Gb full, and this is properly reported under the about menu.
I restored my ipod, (twice) but this didn't help - midway through the first try, I stopped the sync and checked and the songs showed up, and I plugged in and re-continued. When all the songs were updated, once again no files display.
The iPod reports no songs or playlists, when in fact there are thousands of tracks on the iPod. The pictures, oddly, show up. When I say it reports no playlists or songs, I mean that if I go to the about screen, it says 0 songs and 0 playlists, although it shows the correct amount of Gb used. All of the menus are blank, with no songs or playlists. The exception is the photo viewing function, which still works fine and displays all of the photos on the iPod as it should.
This same problem has been reported a number of times by other iPod users elsewhere, just one example:

I am using the most current version of iTunes on Windows XP. Everything looks and behaves normally on the itunes side of things.
My iPod is essentially unusable currently, as it is loaded with songs but won't recognize them. I would appreciate any help.

I tried to change the drive letter as suggested. However, after a restore and a sync, I end up with an iPod full of inaccessible files. sigh
By the way, to be exact, I have over 33,000 files now - could the shear number of files have something to do with it? Is there a limit of the number of files that can be put on the ipod? I also have over 300 playlists - could this be a problem?

  • Cant add songs to playlist

just got a new ipod, transfered songs from old ipod to laptop, put songs onto new ipod.  Now the problem....i cant add songs to a playlist, the arrow doesnt give me the add to option and i cant drag them.....i have multiple devices , ipad, 2 iphones and now this ipod....itunes says downloading song x to match, what the heck is that and why is it taking so long?  do i have a library conflict or something?  i constantly struggle with syncing and manually manage this and that and all these songs will be deleted and synced with this library, etc....you get the picture.....can anybody give me the crash course of apple products 101? i never had any problems when i just had an ipod years ago but when we got multiple devices and accounts and cloud everything has become much more difficult.

    What sort of Playlist?
You can only drag songs into regular Playlists, but not into Smart Playlists. In the picture below, the highlighted Playlists with the "musical note on paper" are regular Playlists, into which you can add songs:
The Playlists with a "cog wheel" beside them are Smart Playlists. Songs are added to these lists according to the rules you set for that list. You cannot drag songs into them and if you try, you will see the red circle with the slash.
    Is this the problem?

  • Ipod only displays songs in playlists..Help!

Help - my Ipod nano only displays songs as playlists - in other words I cannot view songs as album, song, genre etc.....how on earth do you solve this??? Thanks!

Try putting the iPod into disk mode. I know that you said a reset was unsuccessful, but just try.
-hold menu + select buttons for 10 - 15 seconds
-when you see the apple logo fade away and come back on the screen IMMEDIATELY switch to holding the select and play/pause button
If you get the checkmark with OK to disconnect, that is a plus. Plug it into your computer and it should switch to "Do Not Disconnect - Disk Mode" At that point it should be recognized by your itunes and you should be able to transfer your purchased items off of it.
If not - iPod will need repaired.

  • How does iPod Mini store songs and playlists?

    Hi,
I am a new user of iPod Mini.
I have some music in my music library in iTunes and I have created a few playlists. Some songs are in multiple playlists. When I copy over these playlists, will these music files get copied over twice or only once?
I am worried that this will eat up space on my iPod and hence I am wondering whether to remove all dups in my playlists.
Can anyone please advise? I would expect that iPod dumps all song files at one place and the playlist is just a pointer to these various files. Can someone confirm if this is true?
    Thanks,
    SS

Welcome to the Apple Discussions, Suryanarayana!
Can someone confirm if this is true?
    Confirmed.
    Have a look at:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iTunesWin/4.9/en/513.html
Although the article is about playlists in iTunes, it's applicable when they're transferred to the iPod.

  • Cant delete songs or playlists

everytime i click on a song and press the delete button, itunes quits unexpectedly. I always relaunch it and no matter how much ways i try to delete a song or playlist, itunes always quits. the same goes for imovie and ical. i just recently installed ilife 08 so im guessing that is what caused this. can someone help me please.

Thank you both for your replies.
In addition to having to physically select and delete each and every song, I learned that you have to go up to the toolbar and select "eject". It's not a physical disconnect, but I guess that completes the removal process from the iPod's memory. It's the only thing that works.
I wish Apple's owner's manuals were updated to reflect this kind of stuff...now my iPod won't turn off unless I toggle it back and forth between Menu and Play. I will never buy another one, and will be looking for alternative MP3 players for two Christmas gifts I was going to buy for young 'uns.
    Thanks again.

  • Songs on ipod cant b updated bc playlists dont exist ne mor?

After I connect my ipod, when it's supposed to be updating all my songs, this message appears:
Songs on the iPod "Nicole's iPod" cannot be updated because all of the playlists selected for updating no longer exist.
Why??? It's tragic. All the songs on my ipod are gone, yet they're still on iTunes.
    Any help please !

Did you change the playlists any? You might want to go into the preferences, uncheck all the playlists, put it on manual update, and delete all the songs from the iPod by hand. Then put it back to the playlist update and recheck the ones you want. Maybe that will let it reset with the correct names. Might not work, but it can't hurt to try

  • Cant see songs on my ipod. please help.

Hello to all reading this, and thank you for lending me your time. first: please note that i did do all that i can (restoring, updating, formating, reseting, checking the discussions for s solution, asking friends, and so on) before handing my problem to the forum & my ipod is up-to-date with the latest version 1.4.1. Now, let me get straight to the point:
    1) A couple of weeks ago i updated my iTunes to the latest version (i think it was version 7 or 7.1, not completely sure). Everything was working fine, everything was going great but after a couple of days something that i have never seen before appeared, the most horrible message i have ever received from a software before popped infront of my eyes as my iTunes opened, "...your ipod appears to be corrupt...". At first i didnt take it seriously because i thought a little restoring and reconnecting will solve the problem but i was sooo wrong. I did all that i could have done, reconnect, restore, update, format, "chk" the "dsk" if you know what im saying. succesfully that problem was over when i succesfully fixed it after a series of different tries, everyday!
    2) By fixing the first problem i thought, "oh, now all i gotta do is just sync all my songs again and start doing what i do best, listen to my music, full time!". Again, i was wrong. So i left my ipod to sync all my songs then came back to it after a while with a joyful "ipod update complete" message infront of my face. And as i checked on my ipod on the sources list it was true, all my songs were on my ipod, then i also checked in the ipod itself via "My Computer" and found a series of some coded and some recognizable songs on it. When i disconnected my ipod though, the apple logo appeared and keeps on appearing as if i have reseted it and when i browse the ipod, i donnot see anything, it appears completely song free when iTunes says i am currently using 2.90 GB of my 3.77 GB with a list of all the songs on my ipod available and 45 MB of other, also windows says that 2.93 GB is used from my ipod. When i check the information on the "About" located in my ipod, it tells me that i have 0 songs, 87.3 MB capacity and 169 MB available.
    * please help me if you can, i will be very thankful because this problem has been driving me craaazy! i actually sit on the computer and try to fix it for a long time. oh, and my warranty = finished!

The songs being "greyed out" indicate that your Nano is set to autosync with iTunes. If you wish to remain on autosync, then you will have to delete from iTunes first, then re-sync your Nano. If you wish to maintain the files in iTunes, then you will have to change your iPod preferences to manually manage.

  • Cant see songs in library but can on ipod

I have 241 songs on my ipod but only 156 in my library - even though every song on my ipod was purchased from itunes (i.e., i did not download any songs from a cd or other external source). I have clicked on the Store heading and clicked check for purchases. Any guess as to why the songs I purchase are downloading to my ipod but not my library? Is there a way to copy songs from my ipod to my library? Thanks.

Never mind...I think I just figured it out. I have a 300 GB hard drive with a volume label of "300GB" mapped as a network drive to E: on my laptop. I was just looking through other threads and I think my laptop is getting confused between the ipod and this network drive...I'll just map it to a different letter and see if that fixes it.

  • Can't see songs in Playlist.

I have several playlists on my iPhone but for one playlist, I can't see the songs.  The songs are on the phone and I can play them but I just can't see the songs.  I've deleted the playlist, recreated, and sync'd the phone again and still the playlist is there and at the bottom shows the number of songs but all the entries are blank.  If I click on an empty entry the song will play.

With your playlist in "List view", click on the header over the column of numbers all the way to the left.  This will then reveal the true playback (and sync) order.
However, the sort order in iTunes may not agree with the sort order on your device, but that is a separate issue and seems to have too many variables to go into here.

  • New ipod cant see my music

    Hi,
I got a new 30 gig iPod and tried to sync it to my pc. I've also tried others. first of all, it says it holds 605 gigabytes and there are 60 gigabytes used. It says it is all synced and I push eject and unplug my ipod, but it wont see anything on the iPod. has anyone else experienced this?

with those symptoms, we'd better check for a Windows drive letter confusion on your PC. see the following document:
Windows confuses iPod with network drive or hard drive and may keep iPod from mounting or songs may seem to disappear

  • Just bought an ipod. cant purchase songs on the ipod because its asking for secruity questions i have never set up.

    Ipod touch

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions. To do this, click here and pick a method; if that page doesn't list one for your country or you're unable to call, fill out and submit this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.
