Ipod car audio text display

With hope someone has an answer! I have just brought a new car Mazda 6 along with updating my ipod to the 80gb model. My wish was to take my entire cd collection (quite extensive) to my car and never to use CD's or the delemma of which cd to take. Mazda offered as an accessory an ipod connector. The price tag was considerable however more than worth it in my mind. But how disappointing. I have no text display either on my ipod nor the cars sound system (Bose premimum). This would all be fine if I had stuck to my nano as it's limit of 1000 songs I had to make a decision on. With the 80gb and my entire collection impossible - no idea of the song title, artist etc and no way of chosing what I wish to hear. Not really interested in making playlists as there goes the element of suprise, back to limiting my selection and what the heck I could just as easy (if not more) grab some cds and take to the car. Surely there is a solution to the problem. I presume the reason why I don't get a display on my ipod (other than the Mazda logo) when I connect it is for driving safety reasons but still with hope someone out there can provide me with a solution.

Does it mean that once its fully charged the battery stops operating that the ipod powers up using the d.c. power source?
No. There is still a slight battery usage when plugged in.
Do you think it will affect the charging cycle or even the battery life of the ipod by keeping it plugged into the car audio unit using the cd ib-100?
Yes, but probably not drastically.
You should drain & charge the iPod fully once a month.

  • Warning! Update to ipod Touch Software affects use in car audio

When you install the latest update to the ipod Touch (which you have to pay for) it has a massive impact upon its ability to work with your car audio system. I have an ipod connector in my 2 year old BMW that was brillant as it gave me all the play lists, albums, etc. It still does this but you have to wait up to 15 minutes for it to scan the library and display the tunes. It also no longer starts where it stopped within a file which is a real pain as I listen to audio files that can be up to 2 hours long! Getting back to where you left off is a real pain. Now have to reinstall original software and wave goodbye to the money I paid to upgrade.

Gnome.....I've seen this forum/hospital analogy several times now, and it just doesn't hold water. First of all, in a hospital there are professional medical personnel to help you. The patients don't take care of other patients. Secondly, if I want to find out whether my ailment is really something of concern, common, or how to deal with it, I'd go to a hospital, maybe even investigate medical records. I wouldn't go to where all the happy healthy people are. Finally (and fortunately), most people don't experience any number of diseases or birth defects I could mention. That doesn't mean that millions do suffer from such problems. We shouldn't use supposed rarity as an excuse to cut research spending or attention to such very real issues (again, mostly not "self-inflicted"). I'm very happy you have had a good experience with Apple, but there are a large number of folks who have not and are both angry and disappointed with Apple's lack of meaningful and public response to a multitude of iOS 4.x problems. Please give the hospital comment a rest and try to be less condescending to your poor sick brothers and sisters who cannot afford to buy every newly released Apple device.

  • IPod shuffle will not connect to car audio

my 2015 Lexus audio system recognizes my iPod Nano's (6th &7th generation) without any problems via BT or USB; does the 4th gen iPod shuffle have the capability to play through my car's audio system with it's USB cable?

Probably not, because the iPod shuffle does not have the "standard" iPod dock connector.  It uses the headphones jack as the connection point for data.  Also, the shuffle is designed to be a more limited device, in terms of its interaction capabilities.
A better choice for connecting to a car audio system is an inexpensive USB flash drive.  You may already have one.  For example, this one barely sticks out of the USB port
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/SanDisk/SDCZ33016G/
and has many times the storage capacity of a shuffle.  You can load it with your favorite songs and just leave it connected in the car, instead of constantly connecting and disconnecting an iPod (which causes wear on the iPod).

  • Ipod nano 4gb and car audio

Hi everyone, I've got an iPod Nano 4gb and am a little confused as to what is required to connect this device to my factory installed cd player. I drive a 2006 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab and have the basic factory audio system. I spoke with the dealership where I purchased the truck and they said that I need an interface and harness for $400 + labor. I don't think that is an option for me -- way too expensive.
What exactly is need to connect my iPod Nano to my truck's audio system? Do I need to purchase a new audio device that supports the iPod?
    Thanks

The following website will list different types of car audio devices made for iPods. I hope it lists something that may help you.

  • IPod Shuffle compatible with car audio iPod ready receivers

I was wondering if i purchase an iPod shuffle, would it play with iPod ready car audio receivers like the classic iPods do.

NOT unless specifically mentioned in the documentation/specs of the car audio...
On the other hand, IF the audio system has an "audio-in" you can connect shuffle audio-out with a "patch" cable with a 3.5mm plug on both ends...

  • IPod as primary car audio source

I am fairly new here, and am curious- how many people are using iPod as their primary source for their car audio library? What gear do you have (head unit, amps, etc)? How is it working? Any pitfalls or negatives to this? And finally, are you getting the quality of sound you wish?

Currently I'm using my 3rd gen 20gb pod through the TransPod device. It works ok on most days but there can be interference once in a while. I suspect it might be from other higher powered transmitters like this one. Its not a bad option if you are looking for something a little cheaper. I like it because it will charge my pod along with giving me access to the entire fm dial.
Since I just blew a speaker in my car I'm saving up for a new car system that I can just plug the pod and control it from the radio.

At last, Vauxhall have come up with the solution. It seems that the fact the original advertising literature not mentioning the 4G was an error as they are all compatible. Apparently to make the system work it is essential to have the engine running before you make the USB connection. If you do not have the engine running the system becomes confused and therefore shuts down completely, which is what happened to me. If this happens then the only way of rectifying it is to return the car to the dealership and have the system completely re-configured. Obviously I mentioned the fact that this was not explained when I collected the car and they admitted that this should be made clearer for future customers

  • End of car audio cable came off in my iPod 160gb classic

Any advice on what I should do to get a tiny tip of the car audio cable out of my iPod? I unplugged it today to take the iPod into the supermarket with me and when I came back to try to reconnect, it would no longer insert properly and I noticed the tip of the adaptor was no longer on the cable. I have NO idea how to get into the iPod and do not want to break it trying to get it out but my iPod is now rendered totally useless until I can get it out. Thanks in advance.

If you don't want to risk damaging the iPod, take it into your local Apple Store's Genius Bar and they should be able to assist you. If no Apple stores are in your area, look for an Apple Authorized Reseller instead.

  • Ipod nano and Alpine car audio problem

have bought an Alpine 9850Ri car audio, but it cant find my ipod nano 1st generetion. In the alpines manual it is written that Apline supports the ipod nano ver 1.0 ...
I tried connetcing ipod to another alpine model , but it cant find it too.
So is there any way to load older software to ipod?
    Restoring, reseting wont work.

This itrip -- http://store.apple.com/us/product/TQ044LL/A?fnode=MTY1NDA2MQ&mco=MTA4NTQy -- says it's compatible with the Nano 4g, and it uses FM to play through your car radio. I don't have any experience with it, however. The reviews are so-so.

  • Ipod mini/car audio

Does anyone know how I can connect my ipod mini to my car cd player's aux port? Is there a cable I can buy for it? Or am I better off getting a FM transmitter? Thanks for your help.

b Various Methods to Connect to a Car Stereo System, or Listen to Your iPod in the Vehicle
There are several ways to connect any iPod (or MP3 player) to a car audio system. There are also many opinions on which works better than others. Here is my synopsis:
    b Best Way:
Direct connection via the dock connector or headphone jack of the iPod, to the mini-jack input (or AUX RCA jacks) of your car stereo. Not many low/moderate-end cars have this feature yet, but it is becoming more popular. Some aftermarket auto stereo units have this feature. There are also some after-market, moderate to fairly expensive adaptors that hook into your existing car stereo that will provide a direct connection. Pretty slick, but can be pricey ($80-$300). If money is no object, a clean way to go. Not very portable from car to car – if at all.

    b Better:
Connect your iPod to a cassette adaptor and play your tunes through your car's cassette player. In my opinion (via testing in my car using the accessories I have), it has better fidelity than FM transmitters. Some new cars no longer come with a cassette player, so it may not be an option. It will provide even better audio quality if you can run the audio feed out of the dock connector (see the SendStation link below). Can be portable between cars that have a cassette player and also be used in your home cassette system.
    b Good:
Attach one of the many FM transmitter devices to your iPod and play the tunes through an unused FM station. Some noticeable degradation and distortion may be heard - depending on the quality of the transmitter, the sensitivity of your ears and the airwave congestion in your area. Portable between cars, and may be used in a home system (an iTrip or other self-powered unit). FM transmitters that need to be plugged into a DC auto jack may not work in a home environment (without some sort of adaptor).
    b Marginal:
Attach an external speaker system to the iPod and play it in the car. Workable, but not too good - unless you spring for a $300+ Bose (or similar) system. But why? Only if your vehicle has no Stereo system, perhaps.
    b Brave Techno-Geek:
This site gives some direction on adapting your own car stereo by yourself: http://www.whatsmyip.org/ipodrx8/ . Too risky for my blood -- but it has been successfully done by one on these Discussions: Seanski, "silent track" #2, 11:59pm Jul 15, 2005 CDT
Whichever you choose, power the iPod through a DC adapter running from the car (separate, or as part of the audio adaptor). See the reviews for all the various accessories mentioned above and more, at the iLounge
You will also get a better audio output if one uses the dock connection plug, rather than the headphone jack. See this site for a novel adaptor: https://www.sendstation.com/us/products/pd_lousb.html. Others types are also available via this site.
I have read both positive and negative reviews of each method, and within method, there are great variations in performance of different manufacture's systems – and peoples’ opinions of their performance. Some cassette adaptors work poorly, some better. I got lucky with my choices and have not had any big problems, yet...
BTW - I have a Belkin cassette adaptor and an iTrip Mini FM transmitter (as well as a Newer Technology RoadTrip!+). Using the same song in the same car, I found that the cassette adaptor worked significantly better for me than the FM transmitters.
I am now waiting for two (one for each car) Blitzsafe direct connection cables to arrive in the mail.

  • Message "Accessory connected" when connecting to my car audio

    Hi,
I bought a new iPod Touch recently but haven't tried connecting it to my car audio through the car's USB interface. When I tried connecting it to my car audio, the iPod interface vanished and a screen with "Accessory connected" appeared and it is simply impossible to get out of this interface. Also, my car's displays "Load" with an "iPod" indicator but doesn't seem to play the music. I read in the discussion forum that pressing the "Home" key would bring up the iPod screen which is correct, but the moment I tap on the "Music" option, the iPod again brings up the "Accessory connected' screen. I'm connecting my iPod to my Honda City car audio and the iPod Touch version is 4.1.
Has anyone had similar issues with interfacing iPod Touch with their car audio system?
    TIA
    Best Regards
    Ramanujam

    Hi Ramanujam,
It's possible that your car audio system offers the functionality of a "2-way mode" (ie: allowing you to operate via either the iPod itself or the head unit of the car audio system). Check your car audio manual, and switch the controlling terminal from "headunit mode" to "iPod mode" for iPod playback. Once in "iPod mode", you should find that your iPod's menu should operate as normal.
I'm not familiar with the audio system in your Honda City, however, by example, pressing & holding the "back" key on a JVC headunit will switch between playback modes.
If this solution is not successful, try connecting your ipod via the USB interface while holding the iPod in a "landscape mode" (ie: sideways). You may find that you have limited functionality & can scroll through album covers in order to make song selections. NB: Be sure to hold your iPod in a landscape mode before connecting, rather than connecting the iPod in a "portrait mode" and then rotating the device 90 degrees.
    Wishing you luck,
    Malcolm

  • IOS 4.3.3 killed my car audio integration kit

Anyone else have this problem?  After updating my iPhone4 to 4.3.3, my long-lasting, always trouble-free DICE Silverline iPhone integration kit on my BMW stopped working.  It tries to connect, then disconnects.  After a minute, the iPhone will display a message "iPhone does not recognize this accessory."  Whereas, it always had before!  I know it's not the DICE kit, because my wife's iPhone4 still works great because she did not do the iOS update and remains at iOS 4.3.1
Call me paranoid, but it sounds like Apple decided to turn off some compatibility.  Any advice?  How do I UNDO an iOS update?
    Thanks,
    Tom

Great idea.  I followed BSW's instructions for depowering the DICE box, and did it twice, but could NOT force the unit into a "reboot/reprogram" mode.  Since my wife's phone still pairs normally, it makes me think it's not a pairing issue.  Repowering the device returns the system to status quo:
My wife's iOS 4.3.1 phone "attaches" and plays music.
My iOS 4.3.3 phone never attaches, just displays "detached" in the RDS text on the radio.  The iPhone beeps upon connection, so it is recognizing a connection, but refuses to "talk" to the DICE box.  The iPhone will play songs, but no music will come through the car audio.
Any idea how to return my phone to iOS 4.3.1???
    Thanks,
    Tom

  • Car audio integration

I'll try to keep this simple, just in case its been answered before.
I have a Pioneer stereo in my car, and don't want to use the "official" Pioneer iPod adapter because I will have no display on my iPod screen(laugh if you will..thats a key for me), even though it utilizes the dock connection.
Is there really THAT much audio difference if I use the headphone jack into the AUX input in the back of my stereo?
And if so, will a dock adapter into a 3.5mm plug solve that? One like in this link...
    https://www.sendstation.com/us/products/pocketdock/lineout-usb.html
    Many thanks for any help.
BTW I will be using the 80G Video iPod.
    Dell 2400   Windows XP Pro

I have a 30GB Video iPod and a Pioneer car deck. Most aftermarket head units that have an Auxilury output allow you to purchase a cable which will both power and play music though your car speakers. These cables usually cost about $30 and can be installed in minutes. Most recent car stereos that cost around $130 and up have these types of interfaces and even allow you to control the iPod thought he head unit in your car. I would recommend running this cable into your glove box so that you don't need to cradle the iPod since the song information will usually be displayed on the radio.
You can research car stereos and iPod integration on Crutchfield's website.
Here's a iPod Car Stereo Installation Guide: http://www.crutchfieldadvisor.com/learningcenter/car/ipod/ipod_installation.html

  • IPhone no longer works with car audio

I'm running a 16 GB 3G-S and it worked wonderfully for my internet music such as Pandora or listening to iHeart radio.
The unit would sync up easily to both my new car audio systems and everything detected and played beautifully! However, once I upgraded to 4.2.1 the iPhone is no longer detected in "iPod Mode" or either receiver. I either get error codes from the receiver or errors from the iPhone that this is not supported (when it was in 4.1).
I really loved those features for my frequent long drives. I really hope there is a fix for this problem. I did check with both receiver manufacturers and they maintain their units should work.
Any thoughts or help is greatly appreciated!

That is wild! My receiver had problems under 4.1, and I upgraded to 4.2 last night hoping to rectify things. It worked for me, flies through the menus and plays back beautifully again.
I have a 3GS and a Pioneer deck in the truck.
