Macbook Air case with magnets. Will it affect hardware or performance of product?

No, the low power N30 or N35 gauss neodymium magnets in the magnetic flap cases will not affect it.
There is no HD, and the SSD are hard (relatively) to corrupt by magnetic field unless high gauss and at close proximity.

  • Ipod Case with a magnet?

I recently purchased an ipod case but it has a magnet as a closure. I was just wondering if anyone knew if having a magnet that close to the ipod was bad for the hard drive. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't being paranoid. I wanted to e-mail apple directly but couldn't find an e-mail anywhere. If anyone knows an e-mail I could use to ask them this question, It would be great. Thanks

it really depends on how strong the battery is.
Test it out, the magnet wont cause any physical damage if it's going to do anything the worst it could do is corrupt some data at which point you'll restore your ipod and never use your case again
    Cheers

  • Will I damage my iPhone 4s if I use a flip case with magnetic fastening?

I want to buy a case that I can use to protect the whole of my iPhone and so I need to buy a flip case with a magnetic fastening. However, I have heard rumour that this will damage the compass and navigation on my phone and other various utilities and also ruin the actual touch screen. Is this true or am I safe to go ahead and buy a case?
    Thank you for reading :-)

No, It will not damage the compass but it might cause it to be inaccurate.

  • BEWARE of cases with magnetic latches - they can fry a di

I believe I have completely destroyed the hard disk on two Micros by keeping them in a mini leather case with very strong magnetic latches (don't know the brand - bought them at Best Buy). The fold down flap has a magnetic strip right along the bottom, and that sits right over the touchpad.
In both cases the Micro died, with a corrupted disk, after I let the flap close quickly Wouldn't turn on or off, and could not scan the disk or format in Recovery Mode. I'm 99% sure that the transient in the magnetic field zonked the disks in each case. Both Micros were only one day old. I didn't realize what happened the first time. Fortunately the store replaced them...

I've been using a Pacific Design case with a front flap and magnets that hold it down for the past 6 months. I have not experienced any issues at all with my player. It has not frozen, skipped, or any other problems.
The front flaps are held down very securely with 4 small magnets. 2 are on the end corners of the case and 2 are at the end fla
    ps.
The hard dri've is right there at the bottom.
The magnets are soo strong that if they come within 3/4 of an inch from each other they will pull themselves together quickly and close with a fairly loud 'bang'
    The image looks like this:

  • A case with magnets.

    Hello there,
I've recently bought a 120GB iPod. Since it's my very first iPod, i'm a little worried about its safety. And got http://www.caselogic.com/ipodclassic_trade_120_gb_fitted_case/productdetail/index.cfm?modelid=108941 as a leather case. But it has 2 little magnets, on the bottom right and the left for proper handling and protection.
So, can these magnets hurt my iPod? or is it safe to use that case =)?
    Thanks for your help.

I've used cases like these for years on various different iPods without any ill effects.
I agree with GLNHP, the magnets are simply not powerful enough to cause harm.

MacLife had a warning about that so I e-mailed Griffin about their new case. This is what they e-mailed me back:
{quote}The Elan Convertible does use magnets. They have been tested and will not harm the iPod.

  • Please help!!! iPod cases w/ magnets.

(I know this has already been posted once, but I thought I would place it in a higher traffic area.)
    Hello,
This is my first post, and it is very important. Today, I bought a case for my iPod called "iCase Video," it is made my DigiPower. If it matters, the serial number is IP-LCV-BK. It is a very sturdy case, which is why I bought it, but I am concerned, because the front flap is held down by a magnetic tabs. It is located at the very bottom of the case near the docking area of the iPod. To me, the magnets seem quite powerful. I am worried that these will cause a hard drive failiure. Does anyone think I have anything to worry about? It says it is compatable with my iPod. Please help!!!

I have a couple of cases just like the one you describe and not had a problem.
Whilst it's true to say that iPods and magnets should be kept apart, the magnets in these cases are so weak it shouldn't harm the iPod.
Placing the iPod next to a strong magnet such as those in a speaker, would be a different matter however.

  • IPhone Case with magnetic closure

I bought a belt case for my iPhone. It's actually designed for a Samsung, but fits the iPhone quite well. It has a flap that folds over the top and closes with a magnetic catch. Can the magnet affect the phone at all?

Well, I've had the iPhone in the case... but no more than a couple of hours at a time. So far nothing wrong... but I only realized last night that it may be an issue was wanted to find out for sure.
Surely if Samsung designed the case for their own phone and it doesn't harm them, it should be ok. Right????

  • TS2917 Macbook pro retina leather case with magnets

I've bought a new expensive leather case for my new macbook pro retina display. I've had my macbook accidentally fall asleep 3 or 4 times already.
So, does it mean that I have to throw away that case? Or is it okay to keep using it unless I'm keeping it away when i turn on my macbook? What would you recommend to do?

Don't use it. Magnet will have an effect on sleep function.

  • 3rd gen ipod collides with magnet

My 9 year old recently stuck a magent to my 20GB dock connector ipod. All of the files appear corrupted. Do I just need to reset it and plug it into itunes?

You will probably need to Restore it.
Plug it into iTunes, select the iPod, then Restore.

  • IPod nano case with protective screen, available in store (looking for one)

Hey, im looking forward to buy my first mp3 player, and its gonna be a white iPod Nano. I read alot of reviews, and some people have problems with scratches, and their screen cracking. I am really concerned about the screen cracking.
Is there a good quality protective case with a screen protector, (maybe a wheel protecter, not noccesary though), that is sold at major stores (wal-mart, circuit city, bestbuy, etc)? Price can be an issue too, so not too expensive. Thanks in advance!

  • IPod came with no case

Hello, I purchased 80Gb iPod about 3 months ago and until today didnt realize that the iPod comes with a case. my last iPod didn't so I didnt think anything of it. That was until I saw my friends new ipod video with a case. Anyway would apple send me a case or have I left it to long?

You aren't missing much with that case. Fairly useless protecting the iPod and hard to get to the iPod controls. The only thing I use my case for is to store my earbuds in so they don't gt tangled and knotted in my backpack.

  • Any problem with magnetic case?

Hi, my iPad leather case has magnet on the side, is there any possibility of damage to the screen or flash memory when it is exposed to the magnetic field? I use inky the wifi version which doesn't have compass.

There are many ipad, iphone, and itouch cases that use magnets. The only issue I've ever heard of is with the magnet possibly causing interference with the iphone (see link below).
I assume you are talking about the marware case. This is a popular case, and I strongly suspect that we would know by now if there was an issue. I have one on order.
